Glitches in PoP:SoT, where in-game characters other than the
prince or monsters (such as princess and vizier) render messy throughout the
game. Vectors radiate from these characters when you turn to them, not when
they are out of sight (see attachment). The (attached) logfile shows an error
"err:d3d_shader", which might be related. My setup:

Summary: City of Heroes chat window loses keystrokes, does not
snap back out
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.47.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P3
Component: test
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: matthew.b.gerber(a)gmail.com
In City of Heroes' chat window, the first character of each typed line is
always lost, and focus does not snap back away from the window after sending a
message.
1. If I enter the window by typing a slash, the slash itself is lost (whereas
it would normally be the first character to appear).
2. If I enter the window by hitting Enter, the first character *after* I hit
Enter is lost (whereas it would normally be the first character to appear).
3. After I send a message in the chat window, the focus remains in the chat
window rather than snapping back out to the game controls (which is the normal
behavior).
4. After I send a message in the chat window, the next character is also lost -
so to get back out after sending a message, you have to hit escape.
5. When I use the mouse to enter or exit the chat window, 1, 2 and 4 don't
happen; it focuses and defocuses properly. 3 still happens, however.

Tested on: Dungeon Siege 2 (retail & v2.2), Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
(retail, v1.2, unofficial v6.5)
Installers work flawlessly. Trying to start the games' main .exe or Dungeon
Siege's video config executable leads to a GUI-error which roughly translates
to:
Program error
Fatal errors appeared in the program ins1a[n].tmp so it had to quit.
(with [n] being an incremental number and the prefix ins1a changing sometimes,
example above from Dungeon Siege 2 v2.2, there are no further explanations
given)
Tried with Wine (open -a Wine ....EXE and
/Applications/Wine.app/Ressorces/bin/wine ...EXE), with WineBottler, with
Crossover Games Demo; each using both X-servers available (Apple's X11 and
XQuartz)
Under Bootcamp both games install and play normally.

2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
4 GB RAM
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics (integrated), NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M
Mac OSX 10.6.3 Snow Leopard
(a guess: on demand SnowLeopard silently switches to discrete graphics card and
back, thus leading to misbehaviour of X11?)

example of non-displaying text
[bug 5070 contains some of the original comments for this bug -- creating a
separate bug to track it properly]
Real Estate forms package (commercial) from RealFa$t (realfast.com) originally
available on Win95 (earlier?) uses its own "desktop" to manage its windows.
For each form which is opened, the app opens two windows: one with the full
text and another with a summary. If the problem was reversed (text visible on
full text version), this bug would be less aggravating :)
Data can be entered into fields on either representation of a form and appears
on both. In Wine, the full text version of the form will never display field
text unless that field is the currently selected one. One exception is a
checkbox field. (see attached screenshot)
In the screenshot, with both form representations visible, only the selected
field displays the field content (identified with green arrows) while the main
form does not display the field text (identified with red dots).
If there is a way to change text colors, I haven't located it yet... Thanks!

When in a command for instance LINE Bricscad lose focus on main windows, and
get focus on command windows.
The consequences is that while in the midle of a command is necessary to press
F3 for turning snap on/off or F8 for ortho on/off. This is the normal behaviour
of software in windows.
It is possible to work if one click in main windows, then the F3 and F8 work.
However the program get's the character and prints it in the command line, see

Gets a bit further, but then puts up a windows saying 'E_INVALIDARG' then after

key=>vkey mapping output, keypress output
G15 keysyms are receiving a NULL vkey mapping when passing through
X11DRV_InitKeyboard. This seems to result in the G1-G6 keys being recognised
by Wine as 'happening', but as Wine has no vkey to translate it to, yields no
keypress to the application being executed. (In my case, World of Warcraft. I
cannot bind Gx keys to actions as I do with other keys.)
My X11 is setup to pass and identify G15 'extra' keys as per the Ubuntu
tutorial described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LogitechG15/ with
the exception of the XModMap setup, which I've identified for my own device
using 'xev'.
As I understand it the G15 key events are somewhat synthetic since they are
somehow pushed to X11 via uinput from g15daemon. I don't understand exactly
how that works, but Xev doesn't flag the keypress events as synthetic.
Log snippits are included which contain Wine output demonstrating
initialisation and .. well, me pressing the Gx keys, and Wine's reaction of
shock and amazement to this obscure event.

and it never asked for the second disk and also reported an error after the
installation.
I tried the same thing with v1.0.1 and there it also didn't ask for the second
disk - I know that it does normally because I had it already installed under
Windows - BUT it did report the installation as a success though.

Application starts normally and first error pops up after 10s, but application

Using native mshtml and shdocvw solves the problem. You can also use the more

A Linux user mentioned in
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7282541
that he wanted a package like "Simply Invoice"
http://www.simplyinvoice.co.uk/
for till management, but that he didn't want to
run "Simply Invoice" under Wine. (Presumably
because it wouldn't work well.) So I gave it a shot.
The installer first tried to install .net 2. That
didn't go so well, so I did "winetricks dotnet20".
Then it aborted with a "invoked runtime incorrectly" dialog,
so I did "winetricks vcrun2005". That failed because
some boot time thing was unhappy, so I wiped .wine,
did "winetricks vcrun2005 dotnet20", and reinstalled the
app. That did the trick. The app now installs and
starts up. However, when you try to log in to the trial
database, it complains it can't create an activex component,
and doesn't work after that.

Status: UNCONFIRMED

ReportedBy: daniel.santos(a)pobox.com
This may be an issue with Gentoo's
app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs-20100409 package or it may be an issue in
Wine that's only surfacing with this lib. I have filed bug report for the lib
as well:
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=322697
LoTRO will usually hang after the logo displays. Occasionally, it wont hang
there, but once in-game, chatting in chat channels (ooc, regional, etc.) is
non-functional. Additionally, it will usually hang when existing as well.
This effects wine versions 1.1.44 and 1.2-rc2. Simply put, masking
app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs-20100409 and remerging wine solves the
problem.
I'll upgrade my Gentoo emul-linux-x86 libs again and run winedbg to try to get
you some more technical info. But the last time I did, one thread had 200
frames where it apparently had infinite recursion, that I presume led to a
stack overflow (this was the hang on exit). When debugging the hang after the
logo, I believe there was some type of lock wait timeout.

GSDX garbled graphical output
PCSX2 svn with the latest GSDX video plugin results in garbled graphics.
Sometimes the glitches take the form of a meshed together mix of applications
previously run, or the screen is just covered in random pixels. Just broken
messed up output in any case. This occurs with the DX9 hardware renderer but
also the DX9 software renderer, and sdl renderer (so all GSDX renderers are
broken) Plugin works fine in windows, and (much) older versions from 2009 or
earlier work fine.
It's also broken with the current stable release of pcsx2 (0.9.8) so that
version can also be used to test for this bug.
Tested with:
wine: 1.3.31, 1.2 and 1.1.26.
nvidia-drivers: 290.03, 285.05.09, 275.09.07

The picture shows the issue clear enough I think. The white glowing won't

that are reflecting light but I am not yet sure about this.

The game crashes if you're using a joystick and your ship collides with an
object.
Setting the game not to use force feedback makes no difference to the bug but
setting the controls not to use a joystick at all makes it dissapear.
The fastest way to reproduce this i can think of is:
Go to http://www.ifhgame.ru/ and download the “Babylon 5: I’ve Found Her”
prequel campaign “Danger and Opportunity” Full Package for Windows.
Direct link: http://ifhgame.ru/download/ifh11_setup.exe
Install and start the game.
Start a new Campain, not the Training, and fly towards some nearby object till
you collide with it.
You might need to take a look at the control settings to do this.

Until 0.9.56, Wine allowed me to use an external USB soundcard as well as
built-in Intel HDA sound through ALSA. In Windows applications (e.g.
foobar2000) I could select the internal sound card as dimx:0 and the USB sound
card as dmix:1. Since 0.9.57, however, when the external USB sound card is
plugged in I get two dmix:0 entries, both select the internal sound. I see
these two entries both in foobar2000 and in winecfg under ALSA Driver/Wave Out
Devices. The external soundcard still is accessible through the OSS driver.
I'm using Wine 0.9.58 from the Wine repositories under Ubuntu 7.10. The
external soundcard is an M-Audio USB Transit (with madfu driver).

Regression SHA1: 901af51ea32f2d192a598808abab2d1b6a940773
It was possible to workaround UFO:ET crash at startup by using native (i.e. MS
versions from DirectX runtime) versions of dsound and directmusic. After 1.3.25
it is no longer possible - game crashes at start no matter were the
dsound/directmusic overridden to native or not.
Regression testing comes with the following results:
901af51ea32f2d192a598808abab2d1b6a940773 is the first bad commit

Reverting that patch isn't possible with the 1.3.28 - a lot of other cleanup
work followed completing the "Rewrite of the audio support, using the Win7
architecture." task noted in the release notes for 1.3.25.
I suspect that the Right Way (tm) to fix this regression would be to fix bug
#25728 I had reported long ago. In any case, this is a regression in wine
obviously, as the app that was working pretty well before (with one workaround)
stopped to work with a new release.

I have an MSI package that installs fine on Windows, but has a problem on Wine
1.2.2 and 1.3.14.
On a clean Ubuntu with Wine, it gives the error:
"A previous installation of Cogniview none was detected."
I have access to the people who develop this package, and we came to the
conclusion that it might be because some JavaScript custom actions are not
executed properly.
For example, the custom action "MakeInstalledName" definitely doesn't execute.
You can download the package that has the problem from:
http://download.cogniview.com/PDF2XL-Setup-Eval.msi
Note, that a *different* but similar package of the full product *works and
installs fine* (it has some custom actions that are different):
http://download.cogniview.com/PDF2XL-Setup-Full-4.10.msi
I tried running the package with full logs, something like:
msiexec /lv* log.txt /i ...
but the log output is very minimal and only gives me one line.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Looking through some of the existing bugs, I was thinking that MtGO might be
convinced to work with modern wine. I ran into this issue that does not seem
to have a bug already associated with it.
Steps to reproduce:
0. Install wine from Emulators:Wine repository on openSUSE Build Service for
openSUSE 11.2
1. Clean wine directory (if exists). Use (winetricks win2k) to switch to MS
Windows 2000 emulation.

MtGO.[http://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Article.aspx?x=magic/magiconline/dow…
Download helper works fine. Installer makes a lot of noise in the logs, but
seems to work.
3. Install 'dotnet20' component through winetricks.
* This works around Bug 14067. You may or may not need this if you have a
more recent version of wine.

options unchecked)
3. Choose data disc mode

Native gdiplus doesn't help here. Note that the bug can't be seen in Vista+
modes in recent Wine versions (looks like it hits bug 24580 instead).

First, a demo: http://kjk.gniew.org/dump/wine-orientation.ogg
Obviously text should always appear in the box. The app is Protel 99 SE.
It can be fixed by applying patch from "ExtTextOut with rotation and
MM_ANISOTROPIC inverted coordinates"
<http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2007-March/055559.html>
I was playing with CreateFontIndirectW() and indeed plf->lfClipPrecision has
CLIP_LH_ANGLES flag set.
Can anyone take a closer look at the patch above so it could make its way into
wine?

SynthEyes installs fine, then during the initial launch it requires
registration info. When the registration data is entered, it fails with the
typical "You need to start SynthEyes using 'Run as Administrator' to
authorize."
Using winecfg to set the simulated windows version to win98 doesn't help.
Their support site addresses the problem here: (Naturally it just has
instructions for Windows telling us to make sure the program is set to run as
administrator)
http://www.ssontech.com/support.htm
SynthEyes installer is 32bit, but the application will only launch in a 64bit
environment.
I am running a freshly-compiled wine-1.3.13, with separate 32bit and 64bit
build environments under x86-64 (RH-FC8).

When you try to load an image file however (browsing still works), then the
program window vanishes. It is still running, but not accessible. No suspicious

There should be a free shareware version on that site.

Hi,
this is my first bug report. Hopefully I get it right.
When starting Teamviewer 4.1.6597 in Wine 1.1.29 (Ubuntu 9.04 x86-64) I get the
attached rendering error. The text in the lower right is totally black. Usually
you should find some text there saying "Partner List".
Currently I'm using the xorg radeon driver (for my X1600) that normally works
flawlessly without any display corruption. I have no possibility to make a
cross check on other hardware so I guess it is a wine specific bug.
I have never used Wine before so I cannot tell if this may be a regression.
Maybe other users can help me sorting this out.
Best regards

Background:
Using Steam, I'm trying to start "Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition".
Before it can start for the first time, the program tries to install DirectX.
This is not successful so the game cannot be loaded.
Have tried installing the DirectX setup files manually and via winetricks but
with no luck.
Using wine package 1.1.29-3.fc11 @updates-testing
Error returned:
Trying to load PE image for unsupported architecture (AMD-64)
wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\temp\\DX1a3d.tmp\\infinst.exe": Bad EXE
format for
Investigation details:
The problem seems to be related to wine choosing the correct binary to begin
with, then being unable to run a 64-bit binary which is also part of the
install (i.e. it uses wine32 all of the time, when some of the time it should
be using wine64).
Looking at the behaviour of wine, it correctly identifies that DXSETUP.exe is a
32-bit file and uses wine32 as expected. However, there is an executable file
that is supposed to run as part of the install:
infinst.exe: PE32+ executable for MS Windows (GUI) Mono/.Net assembly
This is a 64-bit file so wine32 chokes on it and the install fails.
Is this restricted to Fedora 11 or is it common to any wine environment where
wine32 and wine64 are present?
The infinst.exe application can be run successfully using wine64 infinst.exe
and simply returns:
fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation 0x7f98ba590000 0 0x7f98bcd4fd10 4
If wine32 infinst.exe is run, it returns:
Trying to load PE image for unsupported architecture (AMD-64)
Trying to load PE image for unsupported architecture (AMD-64)
wine: could not load L"H:\\Download\\Windows\\DX\\infinst.exe": Bad EXE format
for
Additional information:
The temporary folder (shown above) that is created when the files are extracted
disappear too quickly to be looked at in detail. I got a better look at
infinst.exe by extracting all the cab files with:
#!/bin/sh
for file in *.cab
do
cabextract "$file"

Instead of displaying options to create a custom windows installation(what this

nLite is available for download for free. I used the latest version 1.4.9.1
It requires .NET 2.0 or newer. I tried .NET 2.0 and 3.0 installed with
winetricks and both gave the exact same results. 2.0sp2 doesn't seem to install
at the moment and with mono 2.6 nLite would not even start.
The appdb had this program listed as platinum using wine version 1.1.24 and the
same version of nLite.
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14420&iTesting…
I am assuming this is a regression but have not personally confirmed it working
with 1.1.24.
I am using version 1.2 on gentoo linux.
The AppDB first lists someone having a problem with wine 1.1.26 but the first
report detailed enough to sound like the same problem is 1.1.30.
I am attaching the wine terminal output as well as a screenshot of the blank
page that should be full of options.

Several games by Epsitec which feature their "Blupi" character don't render
properly in Wine 1.2rc5. The screen does not refresh/redraw, except for the
region where the mouse pointer is. If you move the pointer around, you can
gradually reveal the image. If the screen changes (e.g. when you click the
button to start a game), the previous contents remain until you move the
pointer to cause parts of the screen to be refreshed/redrawn.
The games which have this problem are Blupi at home, Speedy Blupi and Planet
Blupi. Demos of each can be downloaded from
http://www.ceebot.com/blupi/load-e.php
According to the readme files, the games work with DirectX 3 or later.
Strangely, this problem only occurs in full-screen mode. If you enable virtual
desktop mode with winecfg, the games mostly render correctly. (Tested with
Xubuntu 9.10, Nvidia driver 256.35.)

I've been using Ubuntu Linux for a long time now and I have just about
transferred to it completely. I still have WinXP ase a dual boot in order to
run many other apps such as Adobe Suite and Microsoft Suite and some games. One
such game is Rumble Fighter. After downloading it from here ->
(http://www.download.com/Rumble-Fighter/3000-7423_4-10720212.html?tag=lst-0-1)
I then updated and installed the newest version of Wine (1.23). I ran it and it
all seemed to work perfectly; it updated fine, it installed fine, almost
flawless. Until I got to the login window. I entered my information (correctly)
and hit the login button, but it wouldn't log me in. So I ran it in the
terminal and recieved some fix me messages. The game works 100% in Windows and
it just about would work (I guess) from the looks of things. It's just the log
in button. I'll try to find an answer through something else, but Wine looks
more promising.
PS: System info
Dell Inspiron 1420
Intel Dual Core 2.2 (or 2.4) Ghz

It looks like a wild pointer bug in the nvidia driver, but it could also
be a problem with valgrind or wine.
If it's a driver bug, we should report it upstream after testing with
the latest driver.
If it's not a valgrind bug, we should evaluate whether we should be calling the
driver more carefully somehow.
I'll attach an nvidia bug report log for completeness.

Noticed at Wineconf, Stefan asked me to upgrade drivers but the crash still

I've narrowed the test down to test_fpu_setup(). The crash seems to be around
this call (in d3d9):
hr = IDirect3D9_CreateDevice(d3d9, D3DADAPTER_DEFAULT, D3DDEVTYPE_HAL, window,
D3DCREATE_HARDWARE_VERTEXPROCESSING | D3DCREATE_FPU_PRESERVE,
&present_parameters, &device);
ok(SUCCEEDED(hr), "CreateDevice failed, hr %#x.\n", hr);
the hardware is a bit old, so a test failure isn't unexpected, but a crash is
nasty..

When starting TF2 in directx9 mode (that is, starting it normally, out of the
box), the menu is black (no background image) and there are no HUD elements in
game. Other than this, it appears to work fine and looks great in Dx9 mode, and
would be platinum status if you could see your UI.
Disabling pixelshaders in winecfg causes the game to load with a visible
background on the main menu, but the game immediately bails telling you your
graphics card is not able to run the game.
-dxlevel 81 forces the game into dx8 mode where everything works, but this is a
major visual quality regression.

Loss of keyboard example
Hi All,
I am using Lotus Word Pro N9.8.0208.1200.
Occasionally when I am wring in a Word Pro document, I loose my keyboard. All
the pounding on my keyboard does nothing. The good news it that this time, I
can reproduce it. Ono the attached document, mouse to the bottom, then press
return a bunch of times to add more lines.
I would appreciate if you would fix this on quickly. It is driving me nuts
(and back to my XP VM!)
Many thanks,
-T

On my desktop, Electronic Arts/The Battle for Middle-earth (tm) II Demo
runs great (except for not resetting video mode on exit).
On my lenovo T61 laptop, it hangs and then crashes right after the splash
screen.
Both are running Ubuntu 8.10 with the latest nvidia (177) driver.
Both have 2GB RAM.
The laptop has Quadro NVS 140M, the desktop has 8200 GT.
No settings were used.
The log is quite large.
I haven't had time to compare logs between the two systems yet,
and I haven't had any luck getting a backtrace in winedbg yet.
I guess the next step is to follow the appdb and try UseGLSL.

Summary: Stuttering sound - winealsa.drv regression?

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2

here's a mail i sent more than a year ago to the person who introduced what
seems like a regression to me. i don't remember the details anymore, but the
bug - stuttering when playing HoMM3 - is still there (just verified with
1.1.43).
---
the regression manifests itself as rather annoying audio skipping and
stuttering.
having spent some time tracing and looking at the code, i believe that the
problem
was introduced by this change to dlls/winealsa.drv/waveout.c made on Oct 4:
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=commitdiff;h=717df5b2972b3cb998ca5…
specifically, this line
+ wwo->dwPlayedTotal += lpWaveHdr->reserved - wwo->dwPlayedTotal;
advances the dwPlayedTotal watermark when i believe it shouldn't.
fundamentally, only DSP can report how much has been played, updating this
pointer after reporting
that a sample has been played makes no sense. DSP has reported that it has
played
up to a certain point that covers the sample in question, we are reporting this
back and removing the sample.
we should *not* be changing the value DSP sent us.
i don't know what was the specific issue you were addressing with the patch in
question,
but i'd like you to take one more look at it, because removing this one line
fixes skipping and stuttering for me.

On load event font name and size are printed on the respective label: It seems

crash with no dll overrides
La-Mulana will crash on startup due to incomplete dmusic support;
If dmusic (and its related dlls) are set to override to native dlls, but no
native dlls are supplied, the game will run, but without music. Sound effects
will work fine.
If native dlls are supplied for dmusic, dmime, dmsynth and dmband, the music
will work as well.(This produces a slew of fixmes from dmstyle and dmloader,
yet the builtin implementation of those two dlls are good enough for the music
to work)
If no overrides are set, the game will attempt to use the builtin
implementation in wine, and will crash.
The ONLY dll override necessary to make the game run without music(whether or
not you supply a native dll) is WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dmime=n"
with WINEDLLOVERRIDES left at "", we get a crash:
<see attachment crash1.txt>
Other crashes occur if of those 4 dlls listed above, dmusic is left as builtin
and the others all native, or if dmusic is left native and all the rest
builtin. The crash is slightly different if dmloader is native.
La-Mulana is freeware and can be obtained from
http://lamulana.super-turbo.net/LA-MULANA.zip
The japanese to english translation patch inside that .zip file works fine in
wine.
P.S. Somewhat unrelated: with the builtin implemnentation of dmband (and native
dmusic, dmime and dsynth, all others builtin), the console messages indicate
that it is certainly trying to play the music and is incrementing through the
music files (which are directmusic .sgt files) but is unable to actually
produce sound

Crash report
I'm having problems running an old Win 3.11 game named Mortuum. Wine crashes
before the game start. After some debugging, I noticed the crash happens in
file gdi32/driver.c on function DEVMODEW * WINAPI GdiConvertToDevmodeW(const
DEVMODEA *dmA).
This function tries to memcpy bytes from the structer dmA to the structure dmW
(that was allocated by a HeapAlloc()). Unfortunately, it tries to copy -32
bytes because dmA->dmSize is 0 bytes and CCHDEVICENAME is 32 bytes. I've
attached a small piece of code that shows where the memcpy is done around line
425 on that file.
...
dmW = HeapAlloc(GetProcessHeap(), 0, dmW_size + dmA->dmDriverExtra);
if (!dmW) return NULL;
MultiByteToWideChar(CP_ACP, 0, (const char*) dmA->dmDeviceName,
CCHDEVICENAME,dmW->dmDeviceName, CCHDEVICENAME);
//===============================CRASH=========================
/* copy slightly more, to avoid long computations */
memcpy(&dmW->dmSpecVersion, &dmA->dmSpecVersion, dmA->dmSize -
CCHDEVICENAME);
//===============================CRASH=========================
if (dmA->dmSize >= (const char *)dmA->dmFormName - (const char *)dmA +
CCHFORMNAME)
{
MultiByteToWideChar(CP_ACP, 0, (const char*) dmA->dmFormName,
CCHFORMNAME,
dmW->dmFormName, CCHFORMNAME);
if (dmA->dmSize > (const char *)&dmA->dmLogPixels - (const char *)dmA)
memcpy(&dmW->dmLogPixels, &dmA->dmLogPixels, dmA->dmSize - ((const
char *)&dmA->dmLogPixels - (const char *)dmA));
}
...
I tried to debug more to look for the root of the problem (why dmA->dmSize is
0) but there were too many calls and I couldn't figure out where the dmA
structure was allocated and popullated.
I've attached the crash report and if you need the game to test, just ask, it's
freeware. Tested on 0.9.44 and 0.9.45.

Sound corruption in Lord of the Rings Online. Occasionally, instead of a
monster sound or horse sound, the sound will just be digital garbage layered in
with the other sounds. It's not always the same sound, and not always for that
sound, just occasionally.
I know that's pretty vague.. I'll try to get some trace output, but wine
crashes occasionally (for other reasons - has on LotRO for a while) and I
wanted to get something entered to remind me before the machine tanked again.

deleting my enitire ~/.wine tree then running winecfg. When I select the Audio

"Test Sound" button, I get the following messages on the terminal from which I
launched winecfg
270 roland> winecfg

with the last message repeated until winecfg hangs completely (no more
messages, but no response at all).
Killing and relaunching winecfg results in the same sequence.
However, if instead of clicking on "Test Sound" I click on "Apply", then
winecfg will still hang as above, but the *next* time I launch winecfg this
does not happen. I get only the following to lines

It's funny it's currently only happening on this one out of all 5-6 tried

start up and then stop with just a quick screen flash. It was hard to get any
information out of it, on one computer, it would make gnome-terminal disappear
and die when the game crashed. I tested this on another computer using
PlayonLinux to test it on all wine version(that I considered major) from 0.9.7
to current. The problem existed on all of them. Wine only spit out a few lines
of info when running it in a different terminal:

Terminal log after running bzone.exe
When installed from an original CD (from instructions on AppDB page), patched
to 1.4 (or even the newer 1.5Beta patch) Battlezone will play sound effects and
music from FMV, but will not access music from the original (mixed-mode) CD.
There are a few difficulties with the game, though this is one that is, as far
as I can tell from testing, different from when it is installed in Windows XP.
The game can obviously 'see' the CD as SP campaign can't be played without it
(and the videos play) but it doesn't play the background music audio tracks.
On the CD, track 1 is the data track and 2-16 are the music tracks.
I have made sure that the mixed-mode CD is the lowest letter in winecfg (i.e.
it's the D: drive) and I have tried mounting the CD as a cue/bin file and using
winecfg to show that as the D: CD drive. This doesn't make a difference. I am
using Ubuntu 10.04 and this mounts the /media/BZONE disk (and you can see the
data) and seperately shows the Audio CD.
I include an attachment of the terminal log after running 'wine bzone.exe' -
the last 8 lines are the log from when the first FMV stops and the main BZ page
comes up - it is usually then when the background audio CD music kicks in.
Many Thanks

The attached slideshow contains four such backgrounds.

Also, the same slides show no speed issue in PowerPoint 2000. So it must be the
way PowerPoint 2003 renders them that's causing trouble.

This is because our DDEML doesn't call the callback after receiving an ACK when
the hMem parameter doesn't match the current transaction hMem. However it
doesn't remove transaction from the queue so only after the first transaction
the callback will be called. This patch removes the transaction from the queue
however it is not fully correct - there may be asynchronous transactions so the
ACK doesn't need to come in the same order as the request were sent. A correct
code should check the whole list of transactions.

Created an attachment (id=22098)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=22098)
Patch against Wine version 1.0.1 to fix this bug
GetSystemMenu() is always supposed to return a valid HMENU handle,
but the logic in Wine's version would return nil in some cases where
windows would return a valid HMENU. Specifically, when the relevant
windows dwStyle mask did not include WS_SYSMENU, wine would
return nil, but windows would still return a valid HMENU.
I've been trying to run this app in Wine for many years:
http://www.quadravox.com/AQ430.htm
The version I use is 2.0.6.9, but I strongly suspect the problem will
show up in their current versions as well.
You may download a 30-day trial version to verify the bug.
However, I think the logic bug in GetSystemMenu is pretty obvious.
After a few hours of poking
around with assembly code in the Wine debugger, it became clear that
the Quadravox app was getting a nil HMENU from GetSystemMenu even though
its bRevert parameter was false. Windows on-line docs state that
GetSystemMenu() should return a nil HMENU only when reverting
to the standard system menu. Real Windows apparently does not check
whether the current window's dwStyle bits are set appropriately, where
the wine version requires this. That's the easiest explanation
for the behavior I observed...
To replicate:
create a project in the Quadravox IDE
try to build it.
Aborts with invalid read from address 0x4 after GetSystemMenu()
returns the bogus nil handle.
The attached patch fixes the problem for me.
Others should confirm this...

Cadsoft's Eagle 3.55 schematic entry and PC board layout program crashes when
switching between schematic entry and board layout screens. Sometimes also
when maximizing those windows. Ideally the application should swap between the
two windows whenever the "switch views" icon is clicked. An early version of
Wine (0.9 era) failed to do that, but at least it didn't crash, and a work
around was to bring up the desired window from the task bar. Newer Wine
releases just crash the application no matter how the windows are swapped. The
reported error is:

Though there are newer versions of Eagle, 3.55 was very popular and somewhat
easier to use than later versions. The copy I have is a licensed version that
does larger circuit boards, though the problem seems to exist with the freeware
version too.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

First noticed in pegasus mail (winpm-32.exe), all of the characters in the
normal view window are printed on top of another, resulting in an unreadable
mess. This did not happen in 1.1.42, so it's a bug that's crept into 1.1.43.
The output I get is this:
fixme:font:GetCharacterPlacementW flags 0x00000012 ignored
fixme:font:GetCharacterPlacementW classes not implemented
And basically that just repeats itself for every character it tries to print.
Odds are this affects other programs too, but I've not been able to confirm
that.

When playing Trackmania United Forever with a Logitech Rumblepad 2 I sometimes
get the problem that some keyboard or joystick events gets replayed after a few
seconds in a race (2-15 sec.)
The replayed event can be anything: [space], starting a conversation, [esc],
[button-2], ...
The problem only accurs when using evdev. If I disable evdev for the joystick
(by removing the relevant /dev/input/eventx entry) and use joydev instead, I
don't get the same error.
(Maybe this is the same problem as bug 18999, but I was not sure based on that
description)

But if there is no Wine program running in the background then we start a clean
server each time and these number are always the same. OPAS handles very badly
if there is a lot of temporary files from the same "namespace" already and
after killing the program five times (so that it cannot clean the files on
exit) it will refuse to start.
A workaround is to clean the C:\Windows\Temp or to keep a program running in
the background so that the pids are each time different. I'm also not sure if
the problem is in OPAS or in the Visual FoxPro runtime - the error 1410 that
appears is a MS defined error code (

All applications for the US Robotics message modems are no longer supported and
definitely do not work on the "new" Ubuntu kernels. Which is a real shame as

So I am stuck with the Windows phone tools CD and specifically BVRP which is
excellent - if you have Windows.
Needless to say, WINE won't look at it.
With Setup.exe, it instantly stops with:

Now what?

Half Life 1, and its expansions Opposing Force and Blue Shift crash before the
menu is able to load.
In all three instances the menu background is visible but the program crashes
before the text in the menu appears. This happens within a second or so after
starting the game.
Someone might want to test CounterStrike 1.6 to see if the problem is present
in other goldsrc games.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Half Life 1, Opposing Force and Blue Shift via Steam.
2. Start Half Life
3. Game crashes
Expected results:
-Game does not crash.
This is strange because up until now these games have been working flawlessly.

(export WINEPREFIX=~/.winetmp && rm -rf $WINEPREFIX && export WINEDEBUG=winecfg
&& winecfg)
- Click Drives, click Autodetect..., click Apply, notice E: appears to be
mapped to /media/disk
- ls -l ~/.winetmp, notice there is no "e:" link
The lines below show up when I click Apply:

Regarding the last one, I looked at winecfg/drive.c, in apply_drive_changes,
and the "set drive" message is displayed when DeviceIoControl succeeds. My
understanding is that the DeviceIoControl is supposed to create those links, so
it seems it fails.

least on CoreAudio).
up to the current 1.3.31, it still has the same problem. The sound stutters

I do not know of this affects more than just mmdevapi on CoreAudio... but sound

(Affects versions from 1.1.35 and on)
Age Of Empires III's sound works great out of the game itself (read: playing).
All the sound effects, everything works. However, once the game starts, sound
goes completely mute and doesn't come back (ie: ending the game and going back
to the menu doesn't bring the sound back).
Regression testing made me believe that it was a dsound bug, so I found this
commit:
commit 317d95a9db5337c19a12a24a21502f4b44e8d8a9

dsound: Clean up DSPROPERTY_Description1.
As to 'why' it happens, I have no clue, but I may try to help debugging it. In
advance, let me warn you that I am quite busy nowadays and won't have any
'free' time for the next 3-4 weeks. After that, I'll be more available.
>From what I saw, no error messages were displayed, and I didn't see any output
difference between 1.1.35 and 1.1.40 (except for some unrelated language
stuff). Again, I can dig it up when I have more free-time...
I should also note that I tested this with all of Age Of Empires' extensions,
though I doubt any significant sound-subsystem changes were made to their
sources.

Summary: Far Cry - Enabling shadow maps produces visual

Visual distortions - shadows set to "Very High"
Enabling shadow maps in Far Cry produces some sort of visual distortions in
buildings. The most easy way to do it is setting "Shadows" in advanced video
settings to anything above "Low" - the option works instantly in-game despite
"You need to restart game to apply changes" message.
Attaching screenshots.
