Ihulan (www.oniton.com) is a Hebrew greetings apps, there's also an English
version called U.R.Celeb (http://urceleb.oniton.com/).
The Hebrew installation (http://www.oniton.com/uploads/secure/Ihulan453.exe)
has several issues:
1. The text is Gibberish.
2. On the terms of service (2nd page) the text is in Hebrew but selectingthe
mixes its order, also the header (in read) are split in the middle by LRM for
some reason...
3. The window is not RTL although I'm not sure it should be...
This also demonstrates some of the typical problems with Hebrew.
Kind regards,
Yaron Shahrabani

The protection scheme fiddles with %gs selector value which breaks TLS pointer
access through %gs:0 (Wine uses %fs) or the stack protector scheme that
Userland libs and Wine are built with (glibc provided __stack_chk_guard at
%gs:0x14).
My gcc 4.6.1 x86 host toolchain has -fstack-protector enabled by default hence
Wine gets the stack canary code in the binaries.
The Glibc here (Xubuntu 11.10) has stack smashing protection enabled by
default.
Even if Wine is built with "-fno-stack-protector" the app would still break
glibc %gs TLS code.
This is just a "collector" bug for apps that run into this issue.
WONTFIX obviously, there is no reliable way to know when to repair/restore %gs
value (and restarting faulting instruction).
Regards

missing. Both can be seen with native gdiplus. To reproduce the problem:
1. Use winetricks dotnet20 before installing
2. From the main menu, choose "audio disc"
3. Observe the appearance of the audio player above the upper-right corner of
the program window

demo illustrating the problem
if CoFreeUnusedLibraries is called by COM server, it will break RPC channcel
and lead to the errors
Attached is client/server code that demonstrates the problem.
If you comment out CoFreeUnusedLibraries call, it will start to work.
Steps:
-comple all 3 projects in the Workspace (Debug target is the only appropriate
for the sake of demo)
-make sure server and proxy are registered by running testserver.exe
-RegServer, regsvr32 testserverPS.dll
-run testproject.exe (the client)
Expected behaviour:
1. it will show server's message "CServer is created", click ok
2. it will show client's message "press OK when ready", click ok
3. it will show server's message passed by the client "Hello world!", click ok
4. it will show client's message "call succeeded" and client will exit
5. after roughly 6sec it will show that the server is unloaded/
Actual behaviour:
1. it will show server's message "CServer is created", click ok
2. it will show client's message "press OK when ready", click ok
3. it will show server's message passed by the client "Hello world!", click ok
4. it will dump out trouble in the console and show client's message "call
failed"
You may call CoFreeUnusedLibraries anywhere in the appartment and it will break
RPC on the server side. In some cases it will crash whole the server, like in
the demo.
Tested environment:
Fedora Core 8, 32bit, x86, wine 1.0 installed through the updates

starts loading installation components, after about 30 seconds full processor
usage, err:seh:setup_exception_record stack overflow appears in the terminal
output (see attachment) the progress bar increases slightly, and then it seems
to hang.
Checking with strace on the setup.exe process (the main one, the other one
gives me 'Operation not permitted', even when sudo'ing it) shows it is waiting
to read from a pipe, which is red when doing 'ls -l', I assume that means the
pipe doesn't exist any more?

Patch for TableJoin bug
Imagine the following tables
Table foo:
string color
string flavor
Table bar:
string color
string flavor
with query
"Select foo.color, bar.flavor from foo, bar where foo.color=bar.color"
The current version returns the data from columns foo.color and foo.flavor.
This is because when the tables are joined, the original tablename identifiers
are dropped on the floor, resulting in a table with two 'color' and two
'flavor' columns. The VIEW_find_column() function then returns the first
column found that matches the requested name.
This can be traced to a deficiency in VIEW_find_column() which only uses the
column names in its comparison. Further, the sql parser does not preserve the
table identifier, but this is easily fixed.
A patch, including test case is attached.
This behaviour was observed when trying to install Visual Studio 2008 Standard
Edition.

http://www.digitalformula.net/infrastructure/how-to-perform-an-unattended-i…
It's an interesting mystery. What triggers that file to be closed on Windows?

MSDN info for AppSearch table here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa367579.aspx
and AppSearch action: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa367578.aspx
Specifically:
--- quote ---
The AppSearch action requires that the Signature table be present in the
installation package. [..] A signature that is not in the Signature table
denotes a directory and the action sets the property to the directory path for
that signature.
--- quote ---
This "VInt_VS7_X86_____X86.3643236F_FC70_11D3_A536_0090278A1BB8" key is not
present in "Signature" table, it's actually a directory.
If we look in the previously posted "Component" table we see the directory is
actually "VS7.3643236F_FC70_11D3_A536_0090278A1BB8"
By looking into "Directory" table we find the following:
--- snip ---
Directory ; Directory Parent ; DefaultDir
VS7.3643236F_FC70_11D3_A536_0090278A1BB8
ProgramFilesFolder_x86.3643236F_FC70_11D3_A536_0090278A1BB8
VS90.NET|Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0
--- snip ---
So
"VS7.3643236F_FC70_11D3_A536_0090278A1BB8_RO.3643236F_FC70_11D3_A536_0090278A1BB8"
should resolve to "VS7.3643236F_FC70_11D3_A536_0090278A1BB8" -> L"C:\\Program
Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\\" (install dir)
This looks like bug in wine msi appsearch action impl.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X Installation doesn't work.
I'm tested with a clean wineprefix.
I'm using wine-1.3.9-1.fc14, on 64bit
I can see the installer loading dialog, but when the progress line gets to the
end, an error shows up, saying "1628: Failed to complete installation".
Attached is the terminal output.
Notice the line "wine: Invalid address"
I think this might need extra debugging.
Please note that the bug also occurs in the installer of the demo version.

Crash with Wine 1.3.0
EEP5, a train simulator (long name "Eisenbahn.exe Professional 5.0"), with
patch 2 [0], crashes on every startup with the attached output. The output was
generated by Wine 1.3.0 (packages from [1]), but the first version I tried was
1.1.32.
The system is an otherwise unaltered Debian Squeeze 6.0.
Please note that this is a report for a relative of mine and requests for
further information may take a little bit longer than normal to process.
Kind regards,

Wine output
I've tried to install Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate with Wine 1.3.19.
Steps
- rm -rf ~/.wine
- Autorun - Install Microsoft Visual Studio 2010
- I've unchecked "Yes, send information about your ...". Next.
- "I have read and I accept the license terms.". Next.
- Selected "Full". Install.
What was "installed":
- Microsoft Application Error Reporting
- VC 9.0 Runtime (x86)
- VC 10.0 Runtime (x86)
- Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 Update (x86) - Windows XP
- Microsoft Visual F# 2.0 Runtime
- Microsoft Visual Studio Macro Tools
- TFS Object Model (x86)
- .NET Framework 4 Multi-Targeting Pack
Setup always hangs in "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate" and the rest
isn't installed. I've tried also the Custom install, selecting just Visual
Basic but it hangs in the same step.
Thank you.

Sometimes it still has recognition issues, but a quick shut down will do the
trick as long as its in NT 4.0 mode.
I have tried this on two seperate computers with the same result, Ubuntu 8.04
and 8.10 give this result.

With the new Wine 1.1.41 there are some graphical glitches with character names
in Dungeons and Dragons Online. As you walk about the game, character's and
NPC's names float above their heads, like in most MMORPGs.
There are some NPC's who's names are always supposed to be visible as you're
walking around, but with this latest update their names only appear when you
actually put the mouse cursor over them. Also, when you have a character's or
NPC's name showing on the screen using the above method, as you walk around,
approach the character, move around the character etc., there's a strange
glitch where sections of their name become transparent.
None of the above happens with 1.1.40.

Console output on running sfdrvup.exe
I'm not sure whether this should be part of bug 3260. It's related to the
StarForce protection driver, but not an actual copy-protection check failing.
I tried running the StarForce protection driver update from
http://www.star-force.com/support/sfdrvup.zip
Note: sfdrvup.exe requires that some version of the protection driver already
be installed. I had previously installed a game which uses StarForce under
Wine.
Console output is attached, but these lines stood out:
wine: Call from 0x7b836822 to unimplemented function
ntoskrnl.exe.IoCreateSynchronizationEvent, aborting
wine: Unimplemented function ntoskrnl.exe.IoCreateSynchronizationEvent called

Unhandled exception: unimplemented function
ntoskrnl.exe.IoCreateSynchronizationEvent called in 32-bit code (0x7b836822).
So maybe some minimal implementation of IoCreateSynchronizationEvent could help
here?

ReportedBy: bbartol68(a)yahoo.com
Referencing this bug report:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11461
This bug report was originally raised to address Wine's deficiency in
supporting Windows apps that operate by means of Windows shell extensions. It
was originally submitted more than 3 and 1/2 years ago and has been added to
very sparingly over the last year. The last update was almost 5 months ago and
only addressed the issue with respect to the single case of TortoiseSVN. I'm
submitting this bug to hopefully breathe new life into the prospect of Wine
supporting Windows apps that operate by means of Windows shell extensions more
generally - that is, not just for the specific case of TortoiseSVN.
Now... Having written the above, I arrive at this juncture after experimenting
with the specific case of attempting to get TortoiseGit to run as an extension
of WineFile, WineExplorer, or a third-party file management utility like one of
these (for instance):
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/the-5-best-windows-explorer-replacements/
By the way, I was able to install and run under Wine each of the Windows
Explorer alternatives covered by the above link. However, no luck getting
TortoiseGit to pop up as a shell extension.
Would be really cool if I could use the same Windows shell extension apps under
Wine as I do under Windows.
Thanks!

All property names are hard coded literals in this brain damaged installer and
"PCUDllFilename" was the only one not passed as uppercase.
Probably not intended but completely valid.
Next, these properties are set within msi_parse_command_line().
Because wine msi takes the property names as case sensitive, the property
"PCUDllFilename" is set with value "PCUDataIntl.dll" (and not
"PCUDLLFILENAME").
A bit later, a custom action for each property maps the property names again to

Because "PCUDLLFILENAME" wasn't found due to msi command line bug,
"PCUDllFilename" will be overwritten with empty string, leading to later
failure.
My fix was to convert all property passed to msi_parse_command_line() to
uppercase.
This lets the installer proceed further - only to run into bug 2547

..
Only public properties can be modified using the command line. All property
names on the command line are interpreted as uppercase but the value retains
case sensitivity. If you enter MyProperty at a command line, the installer
overrides the value of MYPROPERTY and not the value of MyProperty in the
Property table.

When selecting some text in IE4, it usually gets highlighted wrong - it appears
that the text changes color as expected, but the background does not. It's very
noticeable on the WineHQ homepage, where much of the text becomes invisible
when selected, while it should be white on a blue background. This wasn't an
issue back in 1.3.6, so I did a regression test:

Reverting the patch fixed the problem. I used these steps to install and test:
1. Change the reported Windows version to NT4
2. Add native,bultin overrides for the following:
advpack, iexplore.exe, jscript, mshtml, shdocvw
3. Remove the Z: drive (not required, but prevents the installer from scanning
the entire file system for Windows browsers to install a plugin to)
4. Run 'wine iexplore -unregserver'
5. Remove some files (replace $HOME/.wine if needed):
rm -f $HOME/.wine/drive_c/{Program\ Files/Internet\
Explorer/iexplore.exe,windows/system32/{advpack.dll,inetcpl.cpl,mshtml.dll,schannel.dll,shdocvw.dll}}
6. Copy the self-extractor to Wine's C: drive and run it to extract the setup
files
7. Run the IE4SETUP.EXE file from the directory the extractor created
8. Choose no when asked to locate WINDOWS.HLP, and ignore some Java VM
installation errors after the reboot
9. Run IE4 and try selecting some text in the news section of the WineHQ
homepage:

"[DestinationDirs]" -> "DefaultDestDir" is also missing. Because of this the

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms794560.aspx (INF CopyFiles Directive)
--- quote ---
If a named section referenced by a CopyFiles directive has a corresponding
entry in the DestinationDirs section of the same INF, that entry explicitly
specifies the target destination directory into which all files that are listed
in the named section are copied. If the named section is not listed in the
DestinationDirs section, Setup uses the DefaultDestDir in the INF file.
...
--- quote ---
And what if no "DefaultDestDir" is given?
I searched a bit and found this:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc768164.aspx (Appendix C - Windows
98 INF Files)
--- quote ---
The optional DefaultDestDir entry provides a default destination for any
Copyfile entries that use the direct copy notation (@filename) or any
[File-List] section not specified in the [DestinationDirs] section. If
DefaultDestDir is not given, the default directory is set to LDID_WIN.
--- quote ---
LDID_WIN might apply to Win9X but not to Windows NT.
In many .INF files for win32/NT you will find:
--- snip ---
[DestinationDirs]
...
DefaultDestDir = 11 ; LDID_SYS
--- snip ---
So the default for non-existing "DefaultDestDir" on NT is LDID_SYS (as the .inf
references the file(s) as "%11%\<executable>")
You may want to fix dlls/setupapi/queue.c:get_destination_dir().
With this bug is fixed, the installer almost cleanly installs except for bug
18098 (urlmon.AsyncInstallDistributionUnit not implemented).

Hello,
when installing Java SE JRE one of the sub-installers crashes.
Though it doesn't seem to affect overall installer result - the installer still
reports "success" in the end.

Using "orca" on the extracted .msi produces the same crash.
The useful "MsiInfo" tool from Platform SDK to verify the integrity of the .msi
files (and dump infos) crashes too if used with no options.
Backtrace doesn't reveal much. The fault caused in msi_destroy_stringtable() is
the result of an earlier failure to read in all OLE streams properly.
When the "verify string pool" option is used, it doesn't crash but shows the
STG_E_READFAULT (0x8003001e) error.

>From my investigation it's the stream directly after "_StringPool" stream that
is somehow not processed properly.
Wine's OLE streams reader makes a stream access at file offset 10566656 with
byte count 512 -> past end of file.
You can use another OLE compound storage viewer to verify:
http://www.mitec.cz/ssv.html
It's a nice tool with plugin arch that lets you decode any OLE stream - if you
write plugins for it ;-)
If you open the .msi with the viewer it reports "sharing violation" which is
another Wine bug.
Dismiss the dialog and navigate the treeview with all streams listed.
Between stream #22 with 90701 Bytes (-> _StringPool stream) and #24 with 3984
bytes the 0x8003001e error appears.
The "faulty" stream #23 has a size of 16168 bytes.
Don't know if this worked in earlier Wine versions, could be a regression
though.

Hello,
while updating some appdb entries I noticed a breakage with some PE "id" tool.
The app worked some time ago but now crashes instantly.
There was a minor version update: the author probably not only added more
signatures but tweaked the custom PE protection the app is wrapped with.

Wine's resource directory entry size check is actually the problem, preventing

...
--- snip ntdll/resource.c ---
This also results in stack overflow because the app's exception handler tries
to load resources too which obviously fails.
Removing the size check (size < sizeof(*resdirptr)) lets the app successfully
start.

Hello,
after bug 17084 (.NET 1.0: imagehlp.ImageGetDigestStream needs more flesh
(assembly registration fails)) was fixed, the installer still fails.
The first blocker is now the presence of some .NET registry keys that ought to
help Mono but break the MS installer itself (path to v1.0.xxx Microsoft CLR
core library is incorrectly constructed, leading to mscorwks.dll load failure).
You can work around by deleting the following key before running the installer:
--- snip ---
$ wine reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework"
--- snip ---
Near the end, the installer spawns "regasm.exe" tool several times to register
various assemblies.
Unfortunately the tool crashes with division by zero (+tid,+seh,+relay):
--- snip ---

--- snip ---
Using additional "printf" style debugging to dump kernel+user+idle jiffies I
noticed the crashes happen when the values accumulated only small changes in
capture intervals.
It seems the CLR employs some kind of cpu resource utilization calculation
(using certain capture intervals) that breaks if the ticks/time units increment
fall below some threshold.
Windows NT accounts SYSTEM_PROCESSOR_PERFORMANCE_INFORMATION values in 100ns
units.
See: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms724509.aspx
I fixed dlls/ntdll/nt.c:NtQuerySystemInformation(
SystemProcessorPerformanceInformation class) to convert jiffies to NT-style
100-ns units and it helped to keep the .NET CLR CPU usage calculation happy and
to not let the regasm tool crash anymore (installer succeeded).

Hello,
due to recent changes in msi (SelfUnregModules standard action is now
implemented and executed), .NET 1.0 installer shows unhandled regsvr32
exception dialog (not critical to installer).
A stub is needed for mscoree.dll DllUnregisterServer():

Applocate is a handy way to run apps in a non-system locale. See
http://alcahest.club.fr/perso/apploc/applocale.html
for a description and screenshots.
(Incidentally, there is a similar utility called Winelocale,
see http://cinnamonpirate.com/hobbies/software/winelocale/
Its installation instructions are quite demanding,
and it probably only works for one app at a time,
unlike Applocate. If I understand correctly, anyway.)
Installing applocate on wine fails; +msi shows that the failure
comes after running some external executable:

flags: 0x41 -> indicates the typelib itself is 32 bit (SYSKIND = SYS_WIN32)
The folder "c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\" contains
assemblies with following characteristics:
64-bit PE + 64 bit typelib part (flags = 0x43 -> SYSKIND = SYS_WIN64)
64-bit PE + 32 bit typelib part (flags = 0x41 -> SYSKIND = SYS_WIN32)
I verified that Wine msi correctly installs them into their appropriate 32 bit
and 64 bit folders.
The 32-bit counterparts from "c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\"
are all:
32-bit PE + 32 bit typelib part (flags = 0x41 -> SYSKIND = SYS_WIN32)
===
What causes the embedded typelib to be 32-bit?
Well, the .NET assemblies these typelibs belong to are flagged as "MSIL"
assemblies.
These are bitness-neutral assemblies that are portable and can run under any
platform.
When you look at 64-bit ->
"c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\RedistList\FrameworkList.xml":
--- snip ---
<File AssemblyName="System.Drawing" Version="2.0.0.0"

ProcessorArchitecture="MSIL" FileVersion="2.0.50727.42" InGAC="true" />
--- snip ---
Example for bitness-aware assembly (managed C++ assemblies are automatically
platform specific):
64-bit ->
"c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\RedistList\FrameworkList.xml":
--- snip ---
<File AssemblyName="System.Data" Version="2.0.0.0"
PublicKeyToken="b77a5c561934e089" Culture="neutral"
ProcessorArchitecture="AMD64" FileVersion="2.0.50727.42" InGAC="true" />
--- snip ---
32-bit ->
"c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\RedistList\FrameworkList.xml":
(the 64 bit .NET Framework 2.0 redist contains both: the 64 bit _and_ 32 bit
runtime)
--- snip ---
<File AssemblyName="System.Data" Version="2.0.0.0"
PublicKeyToken="b77a5c561934e089" Culture="neutral" ProcessorArchitecture="x86"
FileVersion="2.0.50727.42" InGAC="true" />

I guess Wine should not fail on these bitness-neutral assemblies that contain
32-bit typelibs.

Hello,
one of the main problems with current Wine msi is there are x64 installers that
mix architectures in a single MSI package: 64-bit and 32-bit components
(without a separate 32-bit installer for 32-bit components).

The first extracted 32-bit version that gets (incorrectly) extracted to
system32 folder (remember: we're 64-bit install here) and subsequently gets
overwritten with 64-bit version later.
For the registry the same applies: In order to create registry values in 64bit
HKLM for components marked with "msidbComponentAttributes64bit" there is
nothing to change in 64-bit installs.
For 32-bit components (attrs < 256) the registry stuff must go to Wow6432Node.
Ideally Wine's msi should also support something like
"msidbComponentAttributesDisableRegistryReflection" to allow 32-bit components
to write into 64bit HKLM but that's not required for now.

You have to add standard properties that indicate 64-bit environment.
Current, only the "Intel" (32 bit) standard property is handled.
--- snip dlls/msi/package.c ---
static VOID set_installer_properties(MSIPACKAGE *package)

static const WCHAR szIntFormat[] = {'%','d',0};
static const WCHAR szIntel[] = { 'I','n','t','e','l',0 };

GetSystemInfo( &sys_info );
if (sys_info.u.s.wProcessorArchitecture == PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL)

sprintfW( bufstr, szIntFormat, sys_info.wProcessorLevel );
msi_set_property( package->db, szIntel, bufstr );
}
...
--- snip dlls/msi/package.c ---
Just add handling for "MsiAMD64" (introduced with Windows Installer 3.0, still
present for backward compatibility) and "Msix64" (introduced with with Windows
Installer 3.1).
The values seem not relevant, it's only important that the properties exist.
You can reuse the sys_info values from previous GetSystemInfo() call for
"Intel" property to also test for AMD/64 bit case.
In case of x64 system set both, "MsiAMD64" and "Msix64" properties.
With that in place, this launch condition succeeds only to run into next bug
;-)

In Aura 2 (The Sacred Rings) when you press the right-mouse button the
inventory should show up at the bottom of the screen, showing your items, the
journal etc. Normally, when you open your inventory the mouse pointer should be
confined to this lower area of the screen where you can select items etc.
When you press RMB in Wine nothing happens in the game: the mouse pointer stays
on the main screen, a black bar is shown below but it contains nothing.
The game worked without the issue in Wine-0.9.45. Bisecting between 0.9.45 and
0.9.46 resulted:

err:shell:HCR_GetFolderAttributes should be called for simple PIDL's only!
shlfolder.c:2386: Test failed: SHCreateItemFromParsingName returned 0
The test creates the file c:/users/dank/Desktop/testfile,
then looks for it with some arcane shell folder API,
and is unhappy when it actually finds the file.
+shell,+file trace attached.
The test function in question is test_SHCreateShellItem().
I can make the test succeed by inserting the line
SetCurrentDirectoryA("c:\\");
at the top of the function, or by
editing test_ITEMIDLIST_format()
and inserting a return before it calls SetCurrentDirectoryW().
So there seems to be something fragile in the shlfolder tests
with respect to the current directory. No idea why this only
shows up on ubuntu 10.04 (on my i7 test box).

It wants .Net 3.5, but that doesn't work in wine. In mono, fails with:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE\Client\GFWLClient.exe could
not be loaded:
Assembly: PresentationFramework (assemblyref_index=2)

The assembly was not found in the Global Assembly Cache, a path listed in the
MONO_PATH environment variable, or in the location of the executing assembly
(C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE\Client\).
which is WPF, and according to Mono, http://mono-project.com/WPF, they have no
plans to implement (big project, not much reward).
I'm filing a bug here mostly to collect duplicates. If a lot of duplicates show
up, perhaps Novell/Mono will change their mind...
To reproduce:
$ winetricks -q gfw mono26
$ cd .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Microsoft\ Games\ for\ Windows\ -\

$ wine GFWLClient.exe

This happens with both Mono 2.10.5 and Microsoft .NET 2.0. Unpack the test case
and run 'make' and it should create a fresh WINEPREFIX in which it will install
the test pre-requisites before running the test itself.
On a Windows 7 machine, light is able to correctly build B.msi.

test case
The attached test case will generate an installer that installs two files to
'ProgramFilesFolder\duplicate file test'.
when run on Windows, the installer works fine. When run under Wine, the
installer installs the contents of file1.txt into file2.txt.
This only happens with Wix 3.5. This version added a feature called "smart
cabbing" that detects duplicate files in an installer and only embeds one copy.
This may be going haywire when run under Wine.
To run the test case, you will need Mono
<http://ftp.novell.com/pub/mono/archive/2.10.2/windows-installer/5/mono-2.10…>
and WiX 3.5 <http://wix.codeplex.com/releases/view/60102#DownloadId=204417>.
You
will need to put WiX's tools in Wine's PATH, or modify build.sh to give the
full path to the WiX tools when it invokes light and candle.

build the project.
Visual C++ can build projects from the commandline with
devenv projectname.sln /build Debug
but oddly, the first time you try this on Wine, it hangs.
^C and rerunning fixes it. After the ^C, you can see
mspdbsrv.exe -start -spawn
running, so evidently the first run spawned the
pdb service but then stumbled trying to connect to it;
the second run connected fine.
I'll attach a canned script that reproduces the problem from scratch.

The double quotes around the path *are* part of the key and cause the failure

This works in Windows.
Best place to strip off double quotes before passing the path further is
probably COM_RegReadPath() in "dlls/ole32/compobj.c"
