Summary: winetest: can hardly type anything into the tag/email
input forms
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.39
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.5
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
Hi,
the new email address requester is a pain to use because there's no cursor and,
unlike the tag input form, it won't receive the input I type to the keyboard.
So the user becomes desperate about how to be able to start the tests!
It's only after I click "start" (after the error requester) that the requester
shows a reaction to mouse clicks: although no cursor appears, I'm now able to
type in some text.
Actually, this behaviour is almost exeactly that of the tag input requester.
The only difference is that this one typically echoes what I type immediately
after starting Wine. Sometimes no input is accepted there either. Well, its
behaviour appears as broken as the other input requester, but in the past, this
was somehow less of an annoyance: sometimes it accepts input, sometimes not.
What is noteworthy is that the window titles do not show the blue colour
typical of activated windows. They stay grey instead. They stay grey even when
I move the requester to some other location.
Sometimes (with the tag input requester), it echoes my input even though the
title bar is grey.
A cursor appears in rare cases only.
Often enough, the requester appears with a blue color title bar, accept text
yet display no cursor.
A (mostly?) reproduceable way to activate the window and make the cursor appear
is to click "start" with an empty field. The error requester will appear with
the regular blue title bar. Afterwards, the input requester will appear in blue
as well, and a cursor appear after I click into the text entry form.
I'm almot always running winetest inside a virtual desktop. There's not a
single log printed to the terminal.
Actually I already know this behaviour from Ubuntu Linux, but somehow it's more
of a pain on MacOS. I just tested again in the unreleased Ubuntu Lucid: the tag
input form has a grey title bar, shows no cursor but accepts my input. That's
why I did not bother to report this bug in the past.

But that is quite a problem. Let say I want to have the file system of a Wine
prefix and system.reg to be owned by another user. I do that so that I can make
sure the program does not modify what it is not suppose to modify, and that I
can safely share a ProgramFiles directory and system.reg across users. It works
quite nicely. Except printing.
win.ini is created during the initialization of the prefix during the first run
with the (virtual) administrator user. And it will contain the list of printers
that were present at that moment.
Now I run it as user, and since that time I added a printer in Cups. In
printing dialogs, I find that printer listed. But neither the button OK nor
Properties work. If I click on the latter for instance I get:
warn:driver:DRIVER_GetDriverName Unable to find L"CUPS-PDF" in [devices]
section of win.ini
I wonder why the dialog successfully list all the printers but fails to use
them. Either it has to use only the one present in win.ini, or it has to be
able to use those printers that are not in it. This would avoid to have really
strange errors.

After a bit of research found that setting openal32 as native in winecfg
restores sound and music, but not voice-chat. Also, using pulseaudio enables
again all sound capabilities, but this is not an ideal scenario for ALSA users.

I was improving a test in dlls/user32/input.c and while testing the test I've
found out that GetKeyboardLayout(0) doesn't return the HKL of the currently set
keyboard layout but instead the currently selected locale.
===Example===
WindowsXP: French language with German keyboard layout: HKL = 0x407040c
wine 1.3.30: French language with German keyboard layout: HKL = 0x40c040c
The keyboard layout is in the high word and the locale in the low word. So,
Windows XP reports correctly, that I have a German keyboard layout set but
conversely wine 1.3.30 reports French, although "setxkbmap de nodeadkeys" is
set.

Summary: startx -- :1 -depth 8 yields black screen in desktop
window mode
Product: Wine

Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
It seems Wine does not correctly set the palette when opening its window in a
8bpp display. Every time its window is activated, it installs a completely
black palette.
To reproduce:
- In e.g. Ubuntu Intrepid, switch to a terminal with e.g. ctrl-alt-F3
- startx -- :1 -depth 8
should yield a working desktop. Otherwise your graphics card may not be able
to support the ancient 8bit modes. An on-board Intel i915 works.
Alternatively, logout of your gdm/kdm session if you fear being logged in
twice may harm your Gnome/KDE configuration, then start the X server.
- Use Ctrl-Alt-F3/F7/F8/F9 to switch consoles.
- Open a terminal window.
- glxgears works. Note the change of screen colors when changing focus from one
window to another -- people were used to that on X consoles 20 years ago.
- wine winecfg causes a completely black screen if set to desktop window mode.
- Use Alt-Tab to (blindly) switch to another window (e.g. the terminal): the
colors are restored, and the winecfg window inside the desktop window appears
normally (except for strange colours, as for all other windows except the
currently focused one). Click in the wine window and everything becomes black
again.
In full-screen mode, winecfg opens normally (colours of all other screen
contents change, which is "normal" with 8bpp with X).

I've noticed in Unity (Ubuntu 11.10 x64), that WINE will not position any
overlay/positioning from the forms top position, instead they all revert to 0,0
on the screen. This is able to be fixed by manually moving the Form (anywhere),
then it acts as it is supposed to again.
The attached image shows how when I press the file menu on the form how it
opens at window 0,0 and not the form 0,0.
So the form initialization under Unity for WINE isn't handling the offset
positions at all on starting an app (I am not sure if Unity tries to position
the form to 0,0 and WINE snaps it to the proper location, or if WINE is trying
to read the position before the window manager has had time to create the
form/position.
I've had the same occur for Menus, Context Menu's, Combo Boxes, Tooltips,
anything that is meant to draw at form 0,0 + positioning.
As I said, moving the form at all (grabbing the title bar) will fix the offset
position problem until you close the app/game, so it's only the first run of an
app/game it's messing it up.
I can only verify this is a problem under Unity.

Summary: With CLAGS="-O0" Comanche 3 does not find the CD
Product: Wine

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: c_korn(a)gmx.de
Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 36695
--> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=36695
wine 1.3.29 both local and /usr/bin/wine
Ok, the background is that I wanted to find out if bug 21293 was still a
problem in wine 1.3.29 but then I noticed that there is regression in the main
menu which renders it unusable. So I started a regression test.
The problem now was that the game behaved differently when I used my locally
compiled version of wine 1.3.29 or when I used the /usr/bin/wine executable of
wine 1.3.29 which comes with the PPA package of wine (I use Ubuntu 11.04
amd64).
With /usr/bin/wine there was a video intro and then I got to the main menu
which has the graphic issues.
With my own compiled wine executable however there was no intro video and then
I got to another menu which says that not all game options are available
because of the missing CD (this menu does not have graphic issues btw).
So kevlarman from #winehq was so friendly to help me analyze the bug.
Attached you find a file with two logs.
wine_log is from /usr/bin/wine and WINEDEBUG=+file
wine_log_bug is from my own wine executable also with WINEDEBUG=+file
When you search for E:\ in there (E: is my cdrom drive letter) you will notice
that in wine_log there is a call _lopen ("E:\\C3G\\KDV.PFF",0000) which is
missing in wine_log_bug.
We found out that this had to do with the code optimization I used for
compilation.
CFLAGS="-g -O0" ./configure --verbose --disable-tests && make depend && make
-j8
This was my compilation instruction which I got from
http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting
Changing it to this also made built version behave correctly like
/usr/bin/wine:
CFLAGS="-gdwarf-2 -O2 -pipe" ./configure --verbose --disable-tests && time make
-j8
Important here is the -O2 flag (compilation with -O0 in the previous line
brings the bug back again. So it is not related to -pipe or -gdwarf-2).
Now I was advised to also enable +relay in order to analyze it more detailed.
Unfortunately with this WINEDEBUG flag also /usr/bin/wine behaves wrong now and
I was not able to get the output +relay (neither piping it to gzip -1, netcat
or a ramdisk helped here) with the correct behavior.
So this is in short.
-O0 works not, -O2 works, -O2 +relay works not. It has to be some timing issue
I assume. Also it is not clear whether the bug is in wine or gcc.
But at least I can do the regression testing about the graphic issues in the
main menu...

FPS limit in fullscreen mode

Platform: x86-64

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ghost99(a)mail.ru
Normal Touhou games FPS limit is 60, and all gameplay speed determined by FPS.
FPS in listed games is exceeded and is near 75 on fullscreen mode. It looks
like FPS limit is somehow increased by 25% (to 75), because it never grow
beyond 75.
With wine-1.3.15 and older versions that problem can be solved by running wine
with "__GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK=1", but in wine-1.3.16 and newer versions (1.3.17 and
current git commit 41dfdb28c79dd2c6fc1530713b65d28862ee02d8) that workaround is
not working.
In windowed mode FPS is normal (near 60) in all listed games.
That bug can looks similar to http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13085 ,
but now speed in old games (TH06, TH07, TH08, TH09, TH10) is perfect without
any actions, but in newer games it is above normal. So I think there is another
bug with similar workaround (which is not working now).
I have amd64 Gentoo with nvidia-drivers-260.19.36, xorg-server-1.9.4. Tested
with clean ~/.wine/ directory.

I am using the new Gnome 3 Desktop Manager with Fedora 15 Beta 2. Because of
the changes in the Desktop Manager I am no longer able to bring up the Wine
ICON that then allows you to choose functions or applications. The same thing
is true of Crossover which I have posted to their bug site. When you go to the
list of applications available in this environment I am able to go to the
'Other' category and there find many of the applications with the Wine Icon;
however, it seems as if the Crossover and Wine applications all look the same.
I believe what needs to be done is to make the Wine Application ICON
available, for example, under the Other Category, that then expands into the
normal wine functions and applications.

A small log of when the vSync option was enabled from within the simulator
Nolimits Coaster 1.71 has an option to enable vSync, however. This is ignored
within Wine and thus the frames end up faster than the monitor refresh rate.
This can be fixed from the nVidia settings panel by enabling: "Sync to vBlank",
but I don't feel like this is the correct solution to the problem (Cedega has
no such issues).
When the nVidia vBlank option is turned on the game will act correctly by
running at 60FPS, but the game stutters.
I've attached a part of the log file when the vSync option was enabled from
within the game.
There is a similar ticket open: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13085
but this bug happens both in fullscreen and windowed modes.

Summary: set cdaudio door open causes loss of file handle
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.14
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.5
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: ntdll
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
Let's fork this specific issue out of bug #20323, comment #5.
Reproduce using my MCI shell (bug #20232, comment #10)
open cdaudio alias c
set c door open (yet disk is not ejected, why? wine eject works)
trace:cdrom:CDROM_DeviceIoControl 0x40 IOCTL_STORAGE_EJECT_MEDIA 0x0 0 0x0 ...
status c mode -> ERROR_INVALID_HANDLE (6)
Somehow, the handle got lost.
A log file is found in bug #26160, attachment #33330.
Although the bug can be triggered via the MCI, Charles Davis explains in bug
#20323, comment #7 that it is in ntdll/cdrom.c
OTOH, the "wine eject" machinery works fine on MacOS. Here are my notes from an
attempt to install MS Flight 2002, which comes on 3 CDs:
+ wine eject + installer detects new CD, no need for keypress despite
fixme:cdrom:CDROM_ControlEjection not supported on this O/S
What does this fixme mean as "wine eject" appears to work?
As far as the MCI is concerned, I've seen native machines not eject disks via
"set door open" yet return no error (no MCIERR_*). Hence silencing the
inability to eject a disk (despite MCI_GETDEVCAPS CAN_EJECT aka. "capability
cdaudio can eject") would be compatible behaviour.
But the handle must not be lost.

truncated log
After spending a few hours logged into Atlantica, I lose the ability to
interact with the environment using my mouse. The problem is moderate at
first, and then becomes more and more severe, to the point where I have to
restart the program to resolve it.
Recently, new UI problems have appeared. Monster Invasion was this weekend,
and whenever I tried to start a fight, my screen would flicker black, and
require me to restart my computer by holding down the power button. This
problem has presented itself while trying to observe a PvP match, and join a
PvP match as well.
I also noticed a new problem where I lose all ability to interact with the
environment, I can't click, I can't type. Before, the click bug was only
related to my ability to select a monster I wished to attack while fighting.
Now it seems to have evolved into a new monster, where I can't do anything at
all but restart. On a side note, these problems seem to have emerged with the
most recent update to my computer's software from Apple. The monster click bug
has been present from the start, however.
I am using Wine.app, version 1.1.44. I am somewhat computer illiterate, so I
apologize if my bug reporting has not met the guidelines = /

If any win32 application has an animated icon wine will exhaust both memory and
X server resources.
If you start a win32 application in Wine with an animated icon (like The Bat)
you will immediately notice an initial 6-7 times higher CPU usage by X server
(like 7-11% instead of 2-3), with time the processor usage would increase and
eventually, depending on memory, it will lock down the system.
I'm not sure if this is KDE or Wine problem.

A common pattern for functions returning variable-sized data is to call the
function twice: once to get the size of the data, and once again to actually
get the data. The GetNetworkParams() function in iphlpapi is one such function.
Occasionally on Mac, GetNetworkParams() will return ERROR_BUFFER_OVERFLOW the
second time, even with a buffer of the size returned from the first time. My
guess is that the size is changing in between calls. I'm not sure if this is a
bug or what--can this happen on Windows? Also, is this a Wine bug, or a bug in
the Mac version of the BIND9 resolver?
Apple says the BIND9 resolver API is not recommended, and that new programs
should use the API in <dns.h> instead. Should Wine be doing this?

Indic languages are not displaying correctly in wine. I have tried Hindi and
Bengali, and for both:
- Vowel order is not correct. Some vowels -- e.g. equivalents of 'e' and 'i'
-- are typed after the consonant, but should be displayed before it. Instead
they are displayed after (these are all L to R)
- Combined consonant glyphs are not displayed.
I have the same problem in Wine's Notepad, and several other Windows programs
running under wine. I am using ttf fonts that work fine in linux outside wine,
and under windows. I've also tried both the default ubuntu keyboards and a
separate scim-based input method (avro), with the same results.
(Running Ubuntu 10.04; Same display problems with Notepad, the Word, eSword.
MS Word 2007 crashes when I try using either input method.)

Summary: Rainmeter skin backgrounds are not transparent (Kwin &
Compiz)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.19
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: miketrml(a)gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=20607)

Rainmeter's black background in a virtual window. The black border is also
evident on the desktop.
I have looked throughout the database to find one or two workable programs
similar to this bug. I will list them here within this bug report as no listed
bug specificly deals with Rainmeter's issue.
Rainmeter is a program which displays various GUI elements within Windows,
featuring system information neatly displayed in a varying array of skinned
elements, whether they be text, abstract graphic, anime, or otherwise.
The program installs itself with no issue. The skin loads given the nature and
workaround of bug 18142, a GDIPLUS-related issue in which Winetricks will
install.
The problem is presented upon actually having loaded a skin. The background
appears to be virtually black, and upon changing the program's transparency
from an option within Rainmeter, the black background also changes transparency
with the skin, allowing the wallpaper behind it to show through.
When initially clicking on the window, the black background goes transparent
for a half a second or so and then reprints the black background. Also, no
matter if you're using Compiz or Kwin under KDE 4.2.2, this is a problem
persisting in it's existance.
10091 is a similar bug to this, but this problem persists under Kwin as already
stated. Secondly, the bug also exists regardless whether or not Rainmeter is
loaded within a virtual window.

Summary: query.c:224 Test Failed: IDirect3DQuery9_GetData a 2nd

Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.33
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: testcases
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: celticht32(a)aol.com
Looking at the wine test results for the following test:
query.c in the d3d9 tests directory...
hr = IDirect3DQuery9_GetData(pQuery, data,
IDirect3DQuery9_GetDataSize(pQuery), D3DGETDATA_FLUSH);
ok(hr == S_OK, "IDirect3DQuery9_GetData on a ended query returned %08x\n",
hr);
hr = IDirect3DQuery9_GetData(pQuery, data,
IDirect3DQuery9_GetDataSize(pQuery), D3DGETDATA_FLUSH);
ok(hr == S_OK, "IDirect3DQuery9_GetData a 2nd time on a ended query
returned %08x\n", hr);
the MSDK says the following :
IDirect3DQuery9::GetData
Polls a queried resource to get the query state or a query result. For more
information about queries, see Queries (Direct3D 9).
Return Values
The return type identifies the query state (see Queries (Direct3D 9)). The
method returns S_OK if the query data is
available and S_FALSE if it is not. These are considered successful return
values. If the method fails when
D3DGETDATA_FLUSH is used, the return value can be D3DERR_DEVICELOST.
The test fails with :
query.c:224: Test failed: IDirect3DQuery9_GetData a 2nd time on a ended query
returned 00000001
which is a S_FALSE (1) which just means the data is not available... which
according to the MSDN site is an ok value to return... and is a success.
Also reading the MSDN the D3DGETDATA_FLUSH is supposed to flush the query so
the value its returning is ok...
So If I am understanding the above code the first one should return a S_OK
saying that it flushed the query code.... Then the second call should return a
S_FALSE because the query has nothing in it.....
Stephan said in Dev list :
I guess its fine to accept this result then. I think the original motivation
behind these tests was that HL2 called GetData() more than once and this raised
GL errors - the query code now filters such calls out to prevent calling bad GL
calls. My guess is that its ok to modify the test to accept both results. Ie,
ok(hr == S_OK | hr == S_FALSE, "...");

When launching this software
(http://chessok.com/download/Training/PeshkaSetup.exe) using the most recent
version of Wine on OSX (WS7Wine1.3.27 in my case, but it occurs with other
flavors, including CodeWeavers, and has occurred with every Wine version I've
tried since 1.2.x), I get an error dialog "HardWare identification: "Exception:
Read error in Processes Info".
I cannot be sure if the functionality of the software is compromised in any
way: it appears to work properly, but I do occasionally see errors when
dragging objects out of the application frame (not easily reproducible, and no
idea if it's related).
Sorry for the bad bug report. Hopefully someone who is more Wine-savvy can
reproduce the issue and figure out the guilty component.
Thanks, Jeremy

This program is the only one movie editor I found working kinda good on Linux
with Wine. But it has a few issues, the main toolbar looks weird, audio plugins
registry entries must be deleted from registry or the app desn't launch, and
the major issue is the preview function, which doesn't work at all. I can live
without audio plugins, but preview is necessary for normal work. Preview window
shows only solid color, sometimes it changes a bit when you move through the
clip on timeline, but it never shows the content of the clip. It's very
difficuilt to make movies without preview function, you can rely only on
screenshots from the preview. Screenshots saved to disk show what preview
should show - the really content of the clip with all used effects, transitions
etc.

Several times a second, a large rectangle (usually the same one depending
on the game or screen) flickers to black. This is pretty annoying.
This happens on Braid Demo and Call of Duty 2, but not on Portal: First Slice
or Total War: Napoleon, all tested under Steam.
It does not happen on the non-steam version of Braid Demo

When playing a multiplayer game in Total Annihilation using native directplay
dlls, the program locks up at the end of a game.
This doesn't prevent the game being played, but it would be nice to fix.
Note that this is using the directplay dlls from microsoft, rather than those
that come with wine, following the instructions at
http://wiki.winehq.org/DirectPlayGames.
Bug http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4066 documents that wine does not
implement an appropriate directplay itself for Total Annihilation at this time.
Mostly I'm creating this new bug just to document it for now in the appdb for
total annihilation.
Note that this issue is touched on in the comments for bug
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11130 , but it is not the original bug
that that bug report refers to.

Summary: Virtual desktop window refreshing
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.0
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
Hi,
(Using Ubuntu 8.04, GNOME desktop, Wine 1.0)
This is a question about virtual desktop mode.
When the virtual desktop window is minimised then restored, or brought to the
front after being covered by another window, Wine appears to tell the Windows
applications to refresh their windows. (At least, on my old slow system I
notice buttons etc. being redrawn - restoring the virtual desktop window is not
instantaneous.) Is that correct? Surely it would be better for compatibility
and speed if Wine caches the whole virtual desktop bitmap when the window is
not visible, so it can be instantly displayed when the virtual desktop window
is restored/revealed. Could some Windows programs assume that if they are the
only window on the desktop, that they don't need to refresh their window
imagery?

Summary: Can't get keyboard focus back to wine after switching
to another desktop and back
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.32
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: waldner+bugs.winehq.org(a)waldner.priv.at
Classification: Unclassified
Aloha,
when running an application via wine in full-screen mode, after switching to
another virtual desktop and back, the keyboard focus is lost, and I can't get
it back to wine. Mouse works fine, though.
The typed characters appear in the terminal where I started wine instead.
Environment:
- OS: Debian squeeze, i686, 32-bit
- Window manager: Enlightenment E16, v1.0.0-4, with 3x3 virtual desktops
Regression testing (as per http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting) points to
this as the culprit:

-------------------
Testing was done via:
- git bisect good 1.1.27
- git bisect bad 1.3.32
and then for each good/bad:
- rm ~/.wine
- ./configure && make
- run './loader/wine programs/winecfg/winecfg.exe.so'
- skip Gecko install if asked
- set "emulate virtual desktop" "2048x1152" (my native resolution), apply&OK
- re-run './loader/wine programs/winecfg/winecfg.exe.so'
- type couple characters in the "Libraries" tab
- switch to another virtual desktop and back
- try typing a couple chars into winecfg
First noted when running World of Warcraft, affects all full-screen apps,
regardless of "emulate virtual desktop", though.
NOT a duplicate of 20939, as the workaround with focus-follows-mouse has no
longer any effect. As long as wine doesn't run in full-screen mode, everything
works as expected.
Kind regards,
Robert Waldner
