Bug #: 28632
Summary: dlls/winealsa.drv/mmdevdrv.c!AUDDRV_GetAudioEndpoint:u
se-after-free on error exit path
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.29
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P3
Component: winealsa.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine.8eaf7cd8e5128d8191fe(a)spamgourmet.com
Classification: Unclassified
In dlls/winealsa.drv/mmdevdrv.c!AUDDRV_GetAudioEndpoint, the error exit path
for failure to allocate This->hw_params frees This, then calls snd_pcm_close on
This->pcm_handle. This is lines 625-626 in commit
c9a8d3bd8906932130cd98b667574031895f83f0, the value of master at the time of
this writing. This is unlikely to cause problems in regular usage, since it
only occurs on failure to HeapAlloc hw_params and accesses the freed memory
immediately after freeing it. However, as a use-after-free, it is worth fixing
on principle.
This was found accidentally via code inspection while trying (unsuccessfully)
to understand why Wine 1.3.28's ALSA code acquires exclusive access to the
output device. However, the use-after-free is still present in master.

I suppose is a performance problem on gdi, but not sure about.

Summary: Left 4 Dead 2 Sound Drop
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc6
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P1
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tumpster84(a)gmail.com
The sound drop is likelier to happen when you either rescued (by incap or fall)
or you rescue someone else. You expect the rescue sound to play, but it
doesn't, and then most sounds don't play. This or after you rescue someone
parts of the sound will drop, i.e. you can hear a gun firing but rain drops and
voices cannot be heard. There are other instances where this also occurs (like
luck), but the rescue one is the most reliable one to reproduce. Maps like the
Passing and Dark Carnival, and game types like realism have a higher chance as
well. I have not noticed any trends on weapons (melee or guns) and items, or
characters (survivors or infected).
If you turn on captions and play the game, you expect to see readable words.
When the sound problems occur, you'll see garbage appear in the captions
whenever a sound event happens. You could play with the sound drop until:
- you get kicked off the server (even your own) and get the Server not able to
authenticate message
- there is a round change, then the game "breaks", and you'll have to kill
left4dead2.exe and/or crashes back to desktop.
- you take the initiative, quit, and restart the game before the first two
happen

Hack to remove display-flaws in ProjectOne
After installing and running the software, the pixels in the zoom-mode and the
grid are all black. So, you can paint, but will see the results in the overview
window only. Selecting View->Palette shows also black boxes instead of the
C64-colors.
I took this opportunity to get started with wine-hacking, and finally came up
with the attached patch, which removes the above flaws. It is based on git as
of yesterday, but I could also apply it to 1.1.28 which I had installed on
another computer. The problem itself was noticed way earlier, maybe pre 1.0.0,
but I can't give exact numbers here. I am aware this is not a true fix; still
it should be a good hint where differences between wine and Windows are. I am
afraid my (yet) lacking windows-skills won't take me much further, so I'll file
this as a bug-report now. I will also attach screenshots before/after the patch
later.
Note that this program was coded by a friend of mine and I do have the
sourcecode. If worthwhile, I can ask him for allowance to give the source to
interested wine-developers (but beware of hackish, first-time VB-code ;)) or
just ask me for details, if needed.

The program crashes after selecting an avatar (about the time it attempts to

to selecting an avatar works just fine (changing profile information, etc).
I've attached the console output from wine 1.3.18. If there is a specific

I have trouble playing an old game which uses the audio library Bass.dll.
After typing "wine rpg.exe", nothing happens for a while and then an error
occurs:

It seems that Bass.dll calls to DirectSoundEnumerate in its Dllmain and
something goes wrong.
An old version of Bass.dll can be downloaded from its homepage:
http://www.un4seen.com/download.php?bass08
There are also some test programs for Bass.dll in the package above. They all
fail to start under wine but work all right under windows.

Summary: CoreAudio queue memory leak
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.25
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.5
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: mmdevapi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
CC: aeikum(a)codeweavers.com
While working on a patch to fix the Get/ReleaseBuffer ordering, see bug #27184
comment #3, I found a bug in memory management in winecoreaudio's mmdevapi.
510 HeapFree(GetProcessHeap(), 0, This->public_buffer);
but public_buffer originates from
1625 sc = AudioQueueAllocateBuffer(This->aqueue, bytes,
1626 &This->public_buffer);
The APIs don't match. It currently doesn't crash because
public_buffer is NULL upon regular exit. This matches:
1634 AudioQueueFreeBuffer(This->aqueue, This->public_buffer);
That would be easy to fix, but it leads to question how AudioClient_Release
frees the buffer queue.
502 if(This->aqueue)
503 AudioQueueDispose(This->aqueue, 1);
I suppose that Dispose gets rid of all the MacOS-level elements left in the
queue, but I doubt it can handle the additional AQBuffer that Wine links to
every object via the mUserData slot.
1632 buf = HeapAlloc(GetProcessHeap(), 0, sizeof(AQBuffer));
1640 This->public_buffer->mUserData = buf;
Therefore I believe Wine must iterate through the list (aqueue or
avail_buffers?) and free remaining objects one by one.
As I'm not familiar with the MacOS API's, I'd like somebody knowledgeable
(Andrew, Ken?), to check this issue and write the patch.
BTW, I believe that correct freeing should first return
This->public_buffer into the queue -- where it originated -- like I did in my
ordering patch, then delete the whole queue.
+ if(This->public_buffer){
+ AQBuffer *buf = This->public_buffer->mUserData;
+ list_add_tail(&This->avail_buffers, &buf->entry);
+ This->public_buffer = NULL;
+ }

>From Launchpad: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/208853
I have installed Source Insight, v3.50.0058 (http://www.sourceinsight.com),
under Wine (0.9.58-0ubuntu2) under Hardy Beta.
Source Insight is a code editor and browser. You can install a time-limited
copy if you want.
Anyway, having used this under Wine under Ubuntu for 18 months, with only a
couple of niggly problems, I decided to upgrade (by doing a wipe + fresh
install) to Hardy Beta. Since then, Source Insight has exhibited major
problems.
These all centre around NOT refreshing the screen after things happen:
(1) Opening a new source-file window and moving it. Also resizing an existing
window.
(2) Minimising and then maximising the Source Insight window itself.
In both cases, the screen inside the Source Insight window does not refresh.
Moving the window around the screen does nothing (except get a nice swirly
pattern of a repeating window title-bar inside the window itself.
The only way I have found to cure the problem and make the window refresh
itself is to switch to the second workspace, wait a few seconds (until the
window with the "Go to left workspace ..." pops up) and then switch back. THEN
the window refreshes. Sometimes. If it does not, switch to the other workspace
again and wait longer before switching back.
This is on a Dell D620 with an nVidia "G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300]"
and a second Dell 2007FP display attached. I'm running the graphics in TwinView
mode (which means a manually configured xorg.conf, attached [see launchpad]).
Going to System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Visual Effects shows that
"None" is currently active.
---
The problem seems a LOT worse when running with the two displays and with the
Source Insight window on the second (non-laptop) display.
When running in single-display mode (i.e. at home instead of work), the "new
source file window" problem does not seem to occur so much. The
"minimising/maximising" problem occurs all the time, whatever the display being
used.
---
I believe the last version this worked with for this user was 0.9.46 (the one
that came with Ubuntu Gutsy).

Hi All,
I am using Lotus Word Pro N9.8.0208.1200. My printer is an Okidata B4350 LED
printer (like a laser printer only fewer moving parts and the fuser does have
to get as hot). I print through cups cups-1.3.7-8.el5_3.4 locally and
cups-lpd-1.3.7-8.el5_3.4 remotely (virtual machines) using cups' "Generic PCL
5e Printer Foomatic/ljet4" driver.
Occasionally, when printing from Word Pro under Wine, the letters will run
together. I will attach a sample and the file that generated it.
Please note. No program in Linux or any of my virtual machines does this,
including this same version of Word Pro running under XP-Pro-SP3 and Virtual

Many thanks,

When launching a game from Steam (in this case, Torchlight or Trine), Steam
performs "first time setup" every time. For these games on my system, the
setup consists of
"Installing: Microsoft DirectX for Windows (step 1 of 1)"
This happens everytime I launch a game, even if it happens during the same

I am using version 1.1.36 of the wine-devel package in macports on OS X.
I have attached the text that was logged to my console during this setup, I
think the last few lines were generated by the game itself and not by Steam.

When starting Counter Strike: Source from steam the game goes to the usual

That means that I have to kill the screen which then means I can't exit out of

I have tried pressing the arrow buttons to listen to the telltale clicks that
the game uses when you hover the cursor over an option but alas, nothing.

Gzipped output of WINEDEBUG=trace+relay wine Steam.exe
Running Steam results in strange behaviour on Solaris and OpenSolaris.
When Steam is first installed (using either the current MSI installer or an
older standalone installer), it successfully updates itself and automatically
restarts.
,
On restart, it spews extensive messages to the console about connection
attempts to all 100+ CSDS servers with latency.
For example, the last couple of lines are:
CellID: Connecting to 87.248.209.212:27031. . .
CellID: Connect to 87.248.209.212:27031 took 110 MS
CellID: !! Got Cell ID 2 from server 69.28.153.90:27031
It then makes no further progress and appears to hang. If interrupted with
Ctrl-C, it displays a "SteamStartup() failed" messagebox before exiting.
When started again, Steam.exe prints set of "CellID:" messages showing that is
is connecting to a particular server, then blocks for at least a minute, then
connects to a different server. This goes on indefinitely.
I'm attaching a WINEDEBUG=trace+relay log (to reduce log size, this Steam
instance was interrupted after about 30 seconds). I can't do
WINEDEBUG=trace+all because it results in an error message from Steam about
being unable to load SteamUI.dll.
This seems to be a network related issue, but I'm not entirely certain.

The Natural Selection 2 Test Engine crashes when attempting to start just after
sound has started to play and a black window has spawned. I have been given a
key by one of the developers to debug this issue and if you require it please
contact me privately.
This application did function correctly as of Wine ~1.1.33 and stopped working
shortly after. Regression testing is not possible as Steam no longer starts
with these older versions of Wine and NS2 crashes with the first version where
they both work.
NS2 requires Steam be running in the background to function. There are two
sections of note in the attached console log.
The first appeared at the same time the game stopped functioning so is most
likely related:

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

ReportedBy: FinalCrisisSX(a)Hotmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
Arch Linux x86_64, up to date except for Xorg (using 1.10.4) and Nvidia (using
280.13) packages due to a transparency bug in TF2 I've reported to nvidia
caused by nvidia drivers 285.05. I'm on a GTS 250.
In Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, there is a 1.5 second or so complete
freeze of the whole game whenever you blow up something explosive (like killing
any suicide bomb guy always works), consistently. A very good map to reproduce
this on if you have the fusion dlc (serious sam hd tfe content in serious sam
hd tse) is Campaign -> Egypt -> Sand Canyon, since bomb guys come at you
continuously right when you walk out the first door.
Now, I have found a workaround for this which makes no logical sense to me
whatsoever, but I have reproduced it over 10 times (excluding many other times
I reproduced it a long time ago) just to be sure I'm not crazy or mistaken. If
you run a new wineprefix (let's call it winesam), and use a symbolic link to
Steam in your main wine folder under winesam, it works fine. You may think
"Well, that means it's just the clean wine prefix. The main one must have a
problem", not so. If you MOVE the steam folder from the ~/.wine prefix to the
~/.winesam prefix, it starts to lag again. Move it back to the ~/.wine one, and
then link to it with ln -s instead in ~/.winesam, no more lag upon killing bomb
guys. Switching it back and forth in otherwise unchanged ~/.wine and ~/.winesam
reproduces/fixes the issue respectively.
Specific commands:
# Assuming Steam program files folder is currently in ~/.wine prefix
cd ~/.winesam/drive_c/Program\ Files
ln -s ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Steam ./
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.winesam wine "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe"
# no lag when blowing up bomb guys
cd ~/.winesam/drive_c/Program\ Files
rm ./Steam
mv ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Steam ./
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.winesam wine "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe"
# lag when blowing up bomb guys
I have no idea why this is even possible, since it is just linking to the exact
same thing. Note that doing this the opposite way also works: running regular
wine prefix ~/.wine that has a symlink to Steam somewhere else produces no
further explosion lag.
Other than this short hang when blowing up a bomb guy, the game runs perfectly
fine in wine 1.3.18 or with a patched 1.3.32 (see
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29079 ). Same issue in both wine
versions.

I have several Xservers with different geometry:
:0 - real Xorg server - 1280x1024
:1 - vnc server (or Xnest) - 1024x768
If I run any wine app first time in smaller X (:1) and then on bigger X (:0),
it gets corrupted outside 1024x768 region - exactly the size of smaller X.
If I use wine virtual desktop feature (X server does not matter), this bug
does not appear.

soon as any link is clicked. To reproduce, click the online tab in the upper
tab bar, navigate to www.winehq.org, and click on any link on the page.
winetricks ie8 works around it. As with bug 23827, I couldn't get a backtrace
except by running winedbg manually and setting $BreakOnFirstChance=1.

Summary: The Application Memory Map has worked under Wine for
years, but fails in Kubuntu 11.10
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.28
Platform: x86-64

I have used the application Memory Map under Wine for years, in fact I posted
some of the entries for it in the Application Database. It has always worked
well for me, through several upgrades of the underlying OS.
Yesterday, I upgraded my system to Kubuntu 11.10 by a clean installation
(retaining my /home partition) and today I re-installed Wine. When I launch
Memory Map I get a dialog headed 'Program Error' that says 'The program
MMNav.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are
sorry....'
The supporting info simply points me here.
Since this has worked for so long, I have no idea what version of Wine was
running on 11.04, but clearly something has changed. Any help as to what to
look for and how I can get more info about the problem would be appreciated.

Sure enough, clicking that button seems to do nothing.
Annoyingly, the app's main menu was detached when I ran it, and
the floating main menu was behind all the windows. So if you

Final Fantasy 7 worked perfectly provided you use Aali's OpenGL patch (see the
AppDB entry for details, FF7 is problematic even on newer versions of Windows).
However it recently started to fail at startup time. A bisect reveals the
following:

Unfortunately reverting this commit on today's master produces a lot of
conflicts, so I couldn't test that.
It does not appear to crash, it simply exits, so there is no backtrace to
provide. The one thing it does output is the following fixme several times:
fixme:alsa:AudioClient_GetMixFormat Don't know what to do with 10000 channels,
pretending there's only 2 channels
I'm not sure if this fixme is relevant, but it is present both on working and
non-working runs.

I have some mysterious lag when working with foobar2000 version 0.9.4.4
When having windows (opened by foobar2k itself) open, like the file property
dialogue, or a file scan result window and I close this particular window
SOMETIMES (not always) I have some serious lag. Which means I click the
X-button, and at first nothing happens.
Now I can do different things:
1) Sometimes moving the mouse around triggers window closing
2) Sometimes dragging the still open window around triggers closing
3) Pushing the X a second time sometimes does the trick
I didn't notice this with wine-0.9.56, so it seems to be a regression. I'm
still trying to figure out some actions to always reproduce the problem, but
currently I'm not successful.
This problem is not bound to CPU usage. It also appears when the CPU is idling
at 99%.
Gonna try a bisect, but as I know no way to accurately reproduce it...
Someone with similar problems? Maybe not only fb2k?
Thanks,
Tobias

Bug 29075 and Bug 27248 will prevent installing chrome apps directly from app

* rename extension_1_3_7.crx to extension_1_3_7.zip

* go to "chrome://extensions" -> "ActiveX for Chrome" -> "options"
* paste "https://*.icbc.com.cn/*" (without '"') into the form

Gentoo. I have this bug on all versions of Wine. I have tried updating to 1.1.2
off the wine-9999 ebuild for git - and it worked. But, as soon as I reset the
machine, the problem returned. Uninstalling and reinstalling 1.1.2 did not
(even temporarily) fix the problem.

terminal output launching game
After following recommended setups in appdb skyrim installs and starts normally
through intro video and animated splash screen. After pressing the new game
button, the game starts to load then the screen flickers and the animated
splash screen freezes.
It appears, from the comments in appdb that this is only an issue for
ati/catalyst as nvidia users have some issues that can be worked around
(different terminal output), whereas this cannot.
Terminal output attached.
Used clean wineprefix and combinations of the following:
OffscreenRenderingMode=backbuffer or fbo
UseGLSL=enabled (does not start with disabled, output = no render device found)
Also tried appdb suggestions:
1. winetricks d3dx9_42 vcrun2008 xact
Remove Intro video in "Skyrim/Data/Video"
or
2. winetricks vcrun2008
installing DirectX10/DXSETUP.exe
Alas the problem persists.

Hi.
If a Windows program has a menu as the following:
-_File - -_Search- -_?-
_Quit _About
where '_Search' is used to call a dialog window, and if the user press ALT + S
keys, then Windows (since version 3.1 I think) opens directly the related
dialog, instead using WINE you have to press Return to call the function
because ALT + S select only the menu.
Thanks.

This is the brief error I get when I try to run the program
I've succesfully installed Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 with help from
winetricks.
I installed corefonts, gecko, msxml3, vcrun2005 and tahoma, and it installs
correctly with winxp wine version.
When I try to run it, it sends a window with the infamous "Runtime Error!
Program C:\P... - R6034: An application has made an attempt to load the C
runtime library incorrectly", and it drops an error about :actctx: and
MSVCR80.dll on the console.
I seem to have the correct manifest files on the winsxs directory, and I think
all the needed dll's are in place.
I do NOT have a manifest for a ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Office
Communicator/Uccp.dll file that I got over there.
What are the manifest files anyway? Is there a way to create these files out of
a dll file?
I've also tried to register the dll using regsrv32 Uccp.dll, but the result is
the same.
I can provide the Office Communicator 2007 installer if it helps.
Thanks

Summary: Microsoft Flight Simulator X (both demo and full) hang
on first screen
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.15
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
To install the full version, you first have to work around bug 25558 as it
describes (by copying both discs to a directory and installing from there).
The demo doesn't need this workaround.
Once you get past that, you need to work around bug 25139 by setting
a virtual desktop.
Then I ran into this: the game hung (but with music playing) at the
main screen. It draws the first time, fairly nicely, but then
locks up. This blocks bug 25576.
This is with both wine-1.3.15 and current git.
