Summary: Age Of Empires III regression: Sound is muted once the
game is started
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.35
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jorl17.8(a)gmail.com
CC: m.b.lankhorst(a)gmail.com
(Affects versions from 1.1.35 and on)
Age Of Empires III's sound works great out of the game itself (read: playing).
All the sound effects, everything works. However, once the game starts, sound
goes completely mute and doesn't come back (ie: ending the game and going back
to the menu doesn't bring the sound back).
Regression testing made me believe that it was a dsound bug, so I found this
commit:
commit 317d95a9db5337c19a12a24a21502f4b44e8d8a9
Author: Maarten Lankhorst <m.b.lankhorst(a)gmail.com>
Date: Wed Dec 9 16:58:04 2009 +0100
dsound: Clean up DSPROPERTY_Description1.
As to 'why' it happens, I have no clue, but I may try to help debugging it. In
advance, let me warn you that I am quite busy nowadays and won't have any
'free' time for the next 3-4 weeks. After that, I'll be more available.
>From what I saw, no error messages were displayed, and I didn't see any output
difference between 1.1.35 and 1.1.40 (except for some unrelated language
stuff). Again, I can dig it up when I have more free-time...
I should also note that I tested this with all of Age Of Empires' extensions,
though I doubt any significant sound-subsystem changes were made to their
sources.
Thanks,
João Ricardo Lourenço, Jorl17, jorl17.8(a)gmail.com

Wine 1.0-rc3 crashlog for Imperium Galactica 2, 20080602 @ 01:24am local
When going to either the Spying or Trading views in the Solarian Campaign for
Imperium Galactica 2, wine claims something is getting held at level 3 and that
a deadlock should be expected, then crashes and offers a "sorry" popup which
doesn't appear on screen since the game's graphics 'cover' it.
Hence it's unreadable. The deadlock etc is only shown in the konsole when
running ig2.exe through it.
The bug can be recreated by running the Solarian Campaign and switching between
Spying and Trading screens, or even by switching from the Starmap to either of
the two.
Another freak occurance along the same lines can be recreated by going to the
Spying screen from the Starmap and trying to give the spy (there's only one in
the beginning) a training mission before he's moved up front properly yet.
(i.e. the 'disc' with available spies is still turning.)
The Kra'hen campaign (which does not have the Spying OR Trading screens)
doesn't have an issue with Wine and is playable without any errors as far as I
can tell. (I sorta died a long way into the Campaign after the Solarian Fleet
decimated my own... time and again.. >_>)
I have yet to try the Shinari Campaign, but will see if the problem with the
Spying/Trading screens persist there. I do believe they have these screens,
with the Kra'hen being the only exception to the rule because of them being a
warloving race.

On multiple occasions, I have seen users open a terminal and attempt to run
their application by typing something like "wine itunes.exe"
Wine then looks in the current folder (where it isn't), then looks in its
system32 folder (where it also isn't), and then outputs this message:
wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\system32\\itunes.exe": Module not found
I suggest changing this error message to something clearer based on what the
typical error here, something like:
wine: could not load "itunes.exe": the specified program was not found in the
current directory
This message is more specific to the problem, and more importantly it tells the
user (even a clueless new terminal user) that they need to change the current
directory. So rather than saying "Wine's broken" and making a bad post on a
forum/bug tracker, they'll instead look up how to change a directory in the
terminal.

I'm using the cracked XP-compatible version by dopeman, since I don't have
-any- hope at all that the original Vista-only version could ever EVER work.
This version doesn't have an installer but instead provides you with a
pre-installed environment and asks you to install vcredist.msi and
XLiveRedist1.0.6027.msi manually.
XLive worked fine with msiexec /i, vcredist.msi doesn't (
err:msi:ITERATE_PublishAssembly Component not set for install, not publishing
assembly ) so I skipped it.
When starting, the game complains about numerous missing libs ( XINPUT1_3.dll ,
msvcr80.dll , msvcp80.dll ). I have used the xinput from one of the dll sites
out there and installed the msvc*80.dll with winetricks ( vcrun2005 and
vcrun2005sp1 ). So in theory, the msvc*80.dll should be provided in
windows/winsxs.
Trying to launch the game now fails miserably. To put it simply:
err:module:import_dll Library MSVCR80.dll (which is needed by
L"C:\\windows\\system32\\xlive.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library MSVCP80.dll (which is needed by
L"C:\\windows\\system32\\xlive.dll") not found
These are the dlls that have been installed by vcrun2005. Halo 2 fails to
recognize those. Manually putting these DLLs either in system32 or the game
folder fails of course.

The entire Season 1 (and probably 2) of Sam and Max titles from Telltale Games
suffers from odd graphics glitches. The games otherwise work fine, but the
animated characters are incorrectly drawn. Many are either completely or
partially invisible. Some, like the main protagonists Sam and Max, have some
segments of theirs stretched out and pointing into the distance.
This message may be of relevance, it gets flooded on the terminal launched
from:
fixme:d3d_draw:drawStridedFast >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502)
from glDrawElements @ drawprim.c / 269
The issue is discussed on the AppDB pages. Some appear to be having these games
running flawlessly, and I suspect this is an issue limited to nVidia cards and
drivers. I'm running the proprietary nVidia driver version 96.43.05 on a CentOS
5 distribution, with a GeForce4 Ti 4800 graphics card.
I've tried almost every wine version from 0.9.54 or so to 1.0rc3 and the
problem has been present throughout.
For testing this bug it may be interesting that the full Episode 104: Abe
Lincoln Must Die! is available for free at the Telltale Games website. Wine
should probably be set to "Windows Vista" to run it.

most ingame texts are missing in this game. The only notable exception is
Change Profile (and profile name) in the main menu, possibly because it's done
differently, because other menu entries (in other place) are invisible. Other
than that, they are snsitive to the (invisible) mouse cursor.
The mouse cursor is missing everywhere except of the initial loading screen.
I guess these errors are probably caused by the same bug, see log. Please
ignore the gecko error, it did not work even before wine update broke gecko.

There were no problem to do it with previous 2.0.0.16 version.

Summary: Sims 3 edge smoothing option does nothing
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.14
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with nvidia driver from
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates
glxinfo says
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce GT 240/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 270.29
My user.reg has
[Software\\Wine\\Direct3D]
"Multisampling"="enabled"
Monitor resolution is 1024x768.
In Wine, sims3 lets me select off/low/med/high edge smoothing in settings,
but they all look the same.
In Vista (with a gt 220 and driver 197.45), those settings actually do
something; anything above 'off' subtly smooths out the jaggies.

Summary: Missing typedef keywords in ws2ipdef.h resulting in
multiply-defined symbols
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.42
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: winsock
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rmcdonald(a)bittorrent.com
I was building a program using Winelib and ran into multiply-defined symbols at
link time. I resolved them by modifying /usr/include/wine/windows/ws2ipdef.h
as follows:
136c136
< struct WS(ip_mreq)
---
> typedef struct WS(ip_mreq)
142c142
< struct WS(ip_mreq_source) {
---
> typedef struct WS(ip_mreq_source) {
148c148
< struct WS(ip_msfilter) {
---
> typedef struct WS(ip_msfilter) {
Here's the section of the file causing the problem:
/*
* Multicast group information
*/
struct WS(ip_mreq)
{
struct WS(in_addr) imr_multiaddr;
struct WS(in_addr) imr_interface;
} WS(IP_MREQ), *WS(PIP_MREQ);
struct WS(ip_mreq_source) {
struct WS(in_addr) imr_multiaddr;
struct WS(in_addr) imr_sourceaddr;
struct WS(in_addr) imr_interface;
} WS(IP_MREQ_SOURCE), *WS(PIP_MREQ_SOURCE);
struct WS(ip_msfilter) {
struct WS(in_addr) imsf_multiaddr;
struct WS(in_addr) imsf_interface;
ULONG imsf_fmode;
ULONG imsf_numsrc;
struct WS(in_addr) imsf_slist[1];
} WS(IP_MSFILTER), *WS(PIP_MSFILTER);
Without the typedef keywords, this code was defining a global variable from
every source file that included it.
I browsed the source code at
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=tree;f=include;h=1e4dce3adfe9c87b5…
and saw the head revision for this file and confirmed this part of the file is
the same as my copy.

Summary: ApexDC++ exception
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.28
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: puk007(a)gmail.com
I'm running ApexDC++ 1.2.1 using playonlinux script (wine 1.1.27).
I'm facing problem, that after some time I allways get exception attached
(attached screenshot as well as full log txt).
I've already identified that I get this one immediatelly when trying to connect
to following hub:
name: BEST of all hubs :::CZech republic::: (dc.bestofallhub.com:1128)
address: dc.bestofallhub.com:1441
(only 1.st connection during one application run causes exception)
This is the last message written by this hub when connecting:
[20:49:42] <[Bot]Security> Please stand by while loading the user list...
but user list never loads, I just get this exception.
would be great to have it running seamlessly.
help appreciated.
