Summary: Di Gi Charat Fantasy: installer crashes in the very
beggining of the installation process.
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.28
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jonathlela(a)gmail.com
When launching the installer of Di Gi Charat Fantasy, a alert dialog box occurs
whith the following message : "Error installing iKernel.exe (0x10000)"
Clicking "Ok" stops the installation process.
The progress bar of the installarer does show up, but it never increases since
it's freezed by the dialog box.
Wihtout any flags, wine keeps quiet when this happens (no output from the
terminal). However, I made an output with the following debug flag :
WINEDEBUG="+ole,+typelib,+olerelay,+seh,+relay,+file". This output is given in
attachment.
This is bug follows a previous bug in Di Gi Charat Fantasy :
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5303
Earlier versions (≃0.9.14) initially didn't have this bug. But now, as I use
git to switch between versions, I can't prevent this bug to happen in these
versions either.

Demo source code and compiled executable
My best guess is the bug is in user32, but I'm not quite sure.
It seems that with reparented windows, child windows within them are getting
WM_MOUSEUP but not WM_MOUSEDOWN.
Here is a demo app. Yes it is in VB .NET, but it outright calls the SetParent
API call so the fact that it is .NET shouldn't matter.
Behavior on WinXP:
Press down on the button, display changes to MouseDown
Release the button, display changes to MouseUp and a message box comes up.
Bheavior on Wine 1.0rc2:
Press down on the button, nothing happens.
Release the button, display changes to MouseUp.
Wine version to emulate is set to 2000 as that is the only one for which .NET
works.

Multiples copies
The "new" Steam UI running under Wine has a weird effect when run along with a
compositing window manager. Instead of one copy of the window, multiple copies
appear tiled to the right and down. Only the top-left copy is "solid" in the
sense that it's the only one that receives events. Clicking on a copy sends the
events to the window below (another application or the desktop). All copies
reproduce the changes in the main copy.
I've reproduced this with Gnome-Shell, plain Mutter, and Metacity in
compositing mode. Metacity with compositing mode disabled doesn't exhibit this
problem.
I'm attaching a screeshot made with Gnome Shell. Metacity shows a different
effect: instead of the extra copies, it shows filled black.
Curiously in the "expose" mode of Gnome Shell (i.e. when the desktop is zoomed
out) the window appears correctly. I haven't tried similar features of the
other window managers.

To reproduce, go to view -> toolbars -> customize. On Windows, this makes it
possible to drag-and-drop the objects from the window that pops up, as well as
the new tab button, navigation buttons, etc. to a different location on one of
the toolbars. For example, you can move the new tab button to the left side of
the tab bar. On Wine, it just shows an "action not allowed" cursor when
attempting this, and nothing happens.

Hello!
I'm updated wine 1.1.30 -> 1.1.31. In the version 1.1.30 it was possible to run
Photoshop elements 7.0, but not with version 1.1.31. The splash screen is OK.
The problem is when you choose Edit, and starts the editor. Here Photoshop
hangs, and will not run, even if you wait for a while.

Today I updated Wine from 1.3.19 to 1.3.21 using the Ubuntu repository of
Wine/PPA.
When I tried to start Fallout 2, it played about 1/10th of second (100ms) the
intro video, and then hanged. If I hit ESC quick enough, I manage to pass the
intro videos, but the sound is lost in the game.
Then I tried WoW, which have not had any severe audio problems (only lost audio
about once in an hour, but that can be fixed to switch between hardware and
software acceleration inside the game), but that game has also lost its sound
completely!
I even tried to downgrade Wine, but that does not help. Did the new version
something to the config files that is not repairable?
I didn't manage to get any good debug information, sorry about that. I'm
interested if anyone else has experienced anything like this.

Summary: [FreeBSD][eve

"Bad Handshake" bug
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.23
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: pprocacci(a)gmail.com
Tested wine versions: 1.3.21 and 1.3.23
Attempting to log into the game "eve online" results in a "Bad Handshake"
error. I've narrowed down the problem to the following within the
enumIPAddresses routine in dll/iphlpapi/ifenum.c.
###########################################
do {
lastlen = ifc->ifc_len;
HeapFree(GetProcessHeap(), 0, ifc->ifc_buf);
if (guessedNumAddresses == 0)
guessedNumAddresses = INITIAL_INTERFACES_ASSUMED;
else
guessedNumAddresses *= 2;
ifc->ifc_len = sizeof(struct ifreq) * guessedNumAddresses;
ifc->ifc_buf = HeapAlloc(GetProcessHeap(), 0, ifc->ifc_len);
ioctlRet = ioctl(fd, SIOCGIFCONF, ifc);
} while ((ioctlRet == 0) && (ifc->ifc_len != lastlen));
###########################################
The above snippet of code loops endlessly until ioctl returns -1. The
statement "ifc->ifc_len != lastlen" is always true. This results in enormous
amounts of memory attempting to be allocated and then later used in ioctl.
Eventually the ioctl call will return -1, breaking the loop.
ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER gets returned from this routine, and the proceeding
(proceeding proceeding) routine (GetAdaptersInfo) ends of returning
ERROR_OUTOFMEMORY.
############################################
ret = getIPAddrTable(&ipAddrTable, GetProcessHeap(), 0);
if (!ret)
ret = AllocateAndGetIpForwardTableFromStack(&routeTable, FALSE,
GetProcessHeap(), 0);
if (!ret)
table = getNonLoopbackInterfaceIndexTable();
if (table) {
<!--- snip ---->
}
else
ret = ERROR_OUTOFMEMORY;
############################################
I don't have a patch on hand or anything, but my debugging led me to the
information provided.
Hope this helps.

I'm not sure. The GDI object limit is intentional I think. Trying to fill the
vidmem with surfaces is the game's doing, that won't be fixed.
I guess the way to fix this is to rewrite the GDI renderer not to use a DIB
section for every surface, only if it is a primary surface or the app calls
GetDC. On the other hand Alexandre once said the software ddraw implementation
should use gdi for blitting instead of its own implementations, which means we
need a DIB section everywhere.
Either way it is a tricky situation and would need a lot of work. Honestly I'd
prefer to ignore it and let people force the video memory size lower. We cannot
limit the vidmem for apps using ddraw.dll in general because some opengl apps
use ddraw to figure out how much video memory the GPU has.
> It looks like comment 65-67 describes graphical glitches occurring with
> DirectDrawRenderer=opengl - that sounds like it should be a separate bug

Yes. I think the problem is that wined3d can't read the color keyed surface
contents back. The game backs up the old content of the backbuffer before it
draws a sprite, and when it moves the sprite it draws the old contents back
rather than redrawing everything.

Thanks for taking a look. What do you propose should happen to this bug? At the
very least I suggest changing the title to reflect the GDI running out of
handles issue that it seems to focus on (the current summary is far too vague).
It looks like comment 65-67 describes graphical glitches occurring with
DirectDrawRenderer=opengl - that sounds like it should be a separate bug

I can reproduce the issue. The game tries to fill the entire video memory with
surfaces. Each surface gets a DIB section, and GDI runs out of handles. In the
old ddraw code it worked because it faked only 8 MB of video memory. Wined3d
tries to make a reasonable guess based on your GPU, so usually you have up to
two gigs of emulated vidmem.
There are two workarounds: The first is to use the opengl renderer for
directdraw, which doesn't need DIB sections for most of its surfaces. Or you
could limit the video memory to a small size. See the useful registry keys wiki
page for details on both settings.

Winecfg shows no "Wave Out Devices" under "ALSA Drivers" section. I only get
"MIDI In Devices", "MIDI Out Device" and "Mixer Device" under the "ALSA
Drivers". Of course, sound doesn't work then in wine or in test.
Wine is compiled with alsa support, version is 1.1-32, but happens just the
same with older versions. I suspect the problem is specific to my M-Audio Delta
66 sound card. I use no sound servers or anything that may be restricting the
device. This card otherwise works flawlessly with every other application I am
using. Older version of wine would usually report something about missing
Master control, so I guess somethere there may be a problem, but not really
sure how to fix it.

ReportedBy: rmuncrief(a)comcast.net
This bug may be related to the now closed bug 12362, but I've been asked to
file a new bug report for it. I am running Ubuntu Gutsy AMD64.
I've found that the Steam system tray icon doesn't appear correctly if the
bottom panel is in autohide mode and hidden.
If the panel is completely hidden (by using gconf-editor and setting
/apps/panel/default_setup/toplevels/bottom_panel/auto_hide_size to 0) A space
is created for it in the system tray, but right or left clicking over it does
nothing.
If the normal autohide setting of 6 is used then the leftmost icon in the
system tray will be duplicated, but it will function as the Steam system tray
icon. For example, my leftmost icon is Basket, so when I start Steam the Basket
icon is duplicated, but it fully functions as the Steam icon would.
However, if you hold your cursor over the panel so it's visible when Steam
starts then the tray icon appears and functions correctly. And of course if the
panel isn't in autohide mode the tray icon also appears correctly. So it
simply appears that if the panel is not fully visible when Steam starts, the
Steam system tray icon is not loaded correctly.

Hello,
used this demo: http://www.bytefusion.com/download/bin/bftelnetdemo.exe
It seems the control panel applet is _not_ supposed to be installed into
system32.
The "setup.cfg" from temp folder setup contains the following info:
--- snip ---
...
INSTALLPATH c:\Program Files\BFtelnet # application
directory
...
PROGRAMGROUP BFTelnet # Start menu program group
DESKTOPSHORTCUT telm.cpl > BFTelnet : bfsetup.exe : 1

So Wine needs to support these methods:
--- snip ---
$ wine start telm.cpl
fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000100
Application could not be started, or no application associated with the
specified file.
ShellExecuteEx failed: Success
--- snip ---
or
--- snip ---
$ wine rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL telm.cpl

Both don't work as of now (needs registry assoc).
Let's make this bug target the registry assoc first and not clutter with
different issues.

Hello,
refining summary.
The vendor for "Math Workshop" app provides the same workaround:
http://support.riverdeep.net/fix.asp?isid=36075&prog=1294818625
(cloning WINSPOOL.DRV file to WINSPOOL.DLL)
Though I think these broken apps should rather die than cluttering Wine with
Win9X workarounds.
The number of apps that needs this should be insignificant nowadays...

I wouldn't be surprised if this one and bug #9059 were about the same problem:

--- Comment #34 from Anastasius Focht <focht(a)gmx.net> 2011-06-26 11:52:27 CDT ---
Hello,
long time no activity.
The original bug report is pretty old, targeting issues regarding UNC in
general.
The bug summary remains imprecise/vague.
By reading the comments I'm not sure what the _actual_ problem is ... once
again several issues mixed over time.
Any thoughts about closing this and open new ones, targeting specific
problem(s)?
Regards

Shift 2 terminal output on 1.3.18
The game seems to run more or less ok, however during a race the windshield
will have black boxes over important parts, blocking vision. I believe this is
where various heads up display components are supposed to show.
There are a few fixmes in the attachment, however this one appears the most
during gameplay:
fixme:d3d_surface:surface_load_location Downloading RGB surface 0x72037178 to
reload it as sRGB.

Summary: Spider Solitaire (XP version) - "Show An Available
Move" does not work properly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.16
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: turbolad995(a)hotmail.co.uk
If you run the XP version of Spider Solitaire in Wine (find it in
C:\Windows\system32\spider.exe), clicking on "Game" > "Show An Available Move"
(or pressing the "M" key) only plays the sound; it does not show the next
available move.
