Summary: New behaviour of wineconsole (Alt+F4 emulation by [x]
button pressing) causes problems with FAR manager
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc2
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P1
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ozerski(a)list.ru
In 1.2-rc2 …
[View More]under KDE 3.5.9 (Mandriva 2008.1) an incorrect behaviour of FAR
Manager 1.70 is found. This problem is new, even 1.2-rc1 has it not. FAR
manager is a win32 console norton-like file manager wich can be used under wine
using wineconsole. Like other two-panel file managers, FAR supports own hot
keys which not always are the same as the standard hot keys in MSWindows. E.g.,
Alt+F4 is for FAR not a command for closing but for editing a file. In native
MSWindows, there are exist two ways to terminate FAR: 1) F10 key causes
"internal" terminating of application with a prompt dialog, auto-saving of
preferences etc. 2) Clicking on the Close button [x] on the top of the border
of console window causes terminating of FAR immediately (that can be useful to
preserve default settings etc). Before the last WINE release-candidate the
behaviour of WINECONSOLE was the same as of the native MSWindow console and I
could quickly terminate FAR using KDE-made [x] button. Now clicking [x]
(Standard Close Button on the right-top of KDE window containing WINECONSOLE)
causes an emulation of a pressing of Alt+F4. At result, the FAR manager does
not terminate but opens a current file for edit. That is a wrong behaviour wich
can cause different problems for console applications with non-standard hot
keys (Maybe, introducing a possibility to customize the handling of the
standard WINECONSOLE buttons could be also a good solution).

While trying to reproduce bug 17510 I have seen that there is a new regression
in EngIntsite CSS Editor: the CSS Editor tab shows garbage (basically the
previous content that happened to be in that spot). When loading a CSS file (I
used http://www.winehq.org/styles.css) and clicking in the CSS Editor tab the
corresponding line gets refreshed. Switching to an other tab and back brings
back shows garbage again.

Reverting this commit on top of wine-1.2-rc3-57-gb3f0425 makes the problem go
away.
There is an other bug 22815 affected by this commit but there it produces a
crash so I'm not marking this as duplicate of that. Here it is just an annoying
refresh issue.

Saira is an indie 2D platformer.
I can only start the game if I choose windowed mode from the game configuration
utility.
In windowed mode the lower part of the screen is cut off, making this game
unplayable.
It doesn't matter if I use Wine's virtual desktop mode or fullscreen. The game
has a 1024x600 resolution and the window cannot be resized. There's no option
to change the resolution.
How to reproduce the issue in the demo:
1. After installation launch the Settings.exe application and make sure
'Windowed' mode is selected (msvcp60.dll needs to be placed into /system32 for
that).
2. Launch the game: the main menu displays correctly but as soon as you start
the game you'll notice the truncated screen.

The mouse pointer works properly both in the menu and in the main game though
(except it doesn't change its shape when it should).
The attached log doesn't show too much valuable information. It was created by
starting the game, skipping the intros and waiting until the main menu appears
(the mouse pointer should show up already in the menu).

I'm experiencing slow performance when running the demo with Wine-1.3.14.
On the lowest details and screen resolution @1024x768 I'm getting 5-7 fps
(winedebug=+fps).
The slow performance can be observed in the main menu (two ships are sailing on
the ocean) and in the main game, too.
The game is from 2010 and I don't have a high-end PC but seeing the official
system requirements my hardware should handle it (especially with all details
set to the lowest).
Unfortunately I don't have Windows installed so I can't verify how the game
performs under native Windows.
Apart from the unusual slowness the game itself is working properly (except
videos; at least no visual glitches so far).
Link to the demo added to URL (~1 GB download size).
The demo requires: 'winetricks vcrun2008 d3dx9_36'.

In TrackMania United Forever I noticed the following visual glitch: the timer,
both on the opponent selection screen and during races (in the upper-left
corner), becomes corrupted.
It doesn't happen instantly after the first race is started but after I've
played 4-5 races on different tracks.
I can reproduce the issue with TrackMania Nations Forever, too (freeware).
When the problem happens, the following line appears in the terminal several
times:
err:d3d_surface:surface_download_data >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION
(0x502) from glGetCompressedTexImageARB @ surface.c / 826
I can't observe any other visual anomalies in the game after the corruption
occurred, only the timer becomes...smeary.
Fedora 14
Nvidia GeForce 250 GTS / driver 260.19.36
I must add this bug might be a regression: I'm new to TrackMania so I searched
the Appdb page for similar issues reported there: no one wrote something like
that in the test results.
I've tried previous versions of Wine and the issue first appeared in 1.3.15 for
me.
However I failed in a quick regression testing: probably in a hurry I gave a
'good' bisect when it was actually 'bad'. The problem shows itself after a
while (not instantly). I'm gonna give it another try later.

Character animations and scrolling the screen with the mouse become slow during
fightings. As if characters moved in slow motion. As soon as you finished off
your opponents, game speed is back to normal immediately.
It doesn't matter whether you are fighting against a horde of enemies or simply
smashing a barrel/crate in the game, the problem is there.
What makes the issue more 'mysterious' is that it only happens when your
character is equipped with a melee weapon (dagger, sword etc.) If you are
fighting with a bow there's no such problem: the gameplay is as smooth as it
should be during the fights.
Lowering the screen resolution/detail level has no effect on the slowdown.
The attached log was created while smashing some barrels in the game.
No demo available.

The build menu plays a major role in the game (just like in any other strategy
games): here you can build new ships for your fleet.
Sadly, this part of the game is unusable in Wine simply because you cannot
interact with the build menu in any ways. Clicking on the buttons has no
effect.
Strangely enough, this is the only part of the game that shows such a problem:
all of the other menus (Research, Manpower etc.) work correctly.
To reproduce the problem in the demo:
1) Install the demo as usual. Launch it by orb.exe.
2) In the main menu choose Single Player, skip the tutorials, select Skirmish.
When the map is loaded press 'b' to bring up the build menu (located at the
bottom of the screen). Try to interact with the menu: clicking on anything
inside the menu has no effect.
The same problem in Wine 1.2.3.
Tried it in virtual desktop mode and in fullscreen mode, too.

The launcher of the game offers a setup option where one can change the screen
resolution, detail level of the game etc.
It takes almost a minute until the setup screen appears (after clicking on it
in the launcher).
This doesn't look normal.
The same problem occurs with Wine-1.0.1, 1.2.3 and so on.
This bug afflicts Space Empires V, too (it seems these games have so much in
common).
I have an older Wine (1.3.15) patched with the DIB engine patches (bug #421):
the option screen appears instantly with a patched Wine so my uneducated guess
would be it is a problem with Wine's dib implementation.
Terminal output doesn't reveal too much:
fixme:ddraw:DirectDrawEnumerateExA flags 0x00000007 not handled
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32f6cc,0x00000000), stub!

are not cdroms are limited to a: or b:, which means if I hot-plug 3 usb thumb
drives, the third one does not get a drive letter.

Git commit 38fcf687 by André Hentschel leads to a build failure (see attached

Command line with argument, wine log, netstat output
The problem has occurred with the program NetMap, which is used for the network
monitoring (pinging of multiple hosts in cyclic manner).
NetMap under wine is working several minutes, then hangs with an error "Too
many open files".
Using the FAQ at http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ I have increased the open file
limit by modifying /etc/security/limits.conf:
* hard nofile 16384
* soft nofile 1024
This fix extended working time of NetMap but nevertheless, haven't cured
program's hangs.
Also I noticed that during NetMap usage under wine the amount of opened
connections is enormous and is increasing over time. Perhaps when it exceeds
some limit program hangs. This may be a bug of wine with ICMP handling.
I've made a contact with the author of the program and he explained that NetMap
opens raw socket for the ping request. This action is made using function
IcmpCreateFile of the library icmp.dll. Then this socket is closed by the
function IcmpCloseHandle from the same library. He is sure, that
IcmpCloseHandle is called correctly and the code is executed correctly in
Windows.
NetMap author also mentioned that he tested NetMap and old version of wine
(0.99.6) and never met this problem. But now he checked NetMap with newer
version of wine and confirmed that this problem exists.
In order to check whether this problem is program-related or wine-related I
also tried another program - MetaPing
[http://www.hammer-software.com/metaping.shtml]
It also performs pinging of multiple Internet hosts, like NetMap. And the
problem was the same - enormous amount of opened connections, increasing over
time.
It seems that IcmpCloseHandle is not correctly processed by wine, as these raw
sockets remain opened.
I'm using Ubuntu Linux 10.04 (Lucid) and wine 1.2.2-0ubuntu2~lucid1 from
official Ubuntu repository.

See bug 27170 for the original bug. Prey uses 'hostname' to get the hostname,
and uses this for the default device name. My current machine's hostname is
'aw21'. With wine-1.3.20-230-g456e48e, when running the prey installer, it
thinks my hostname is 'aw2'. As a test, I made a simple exe that returns a
longer string:
austin@aw21 ~ $ cat foo.c
#include <stdio.h>
int main(void)
{
printf("test\n");
return 0;
}
and compiled with mingw32, renamed to hostname.exe and set to native. Prey then
sees 'test' as my full hostname. Something in the current hostname
implementation isn't making prey happy...

Prerequisites:
'winetricks dotnet20'
The mini-browser crashes after CreateHardLinKW is printed in the console.
Returning TRUE instead of false, or setting last error in CreateHardlink to
ERROR_ALREADY_EXISTST makes the app start fine, but that's just a hack, somehow
we should have more then this stub, to get the app running. I'll attach console
info hereafter

0009:Ret gdi32.GetDeviceCaps() retval=00000000 ret=005808b5
GetDeviceCaps() is being called with the DC handle returned from GetDC(NULL)
and the COLORRES value for nIndex. In dlls/winex11.drv/init.c lines 259 and
268:
case COLORRES:
/* ... */
return 0;
Freewire apparently does not like the returned value, and thus aborts with the
message box. Modifying the COLORRES case to return screen_bpp allows the
application to get past this point, though I am not sure if this is the right
thing to do.

Summary: regedit: Doesn't export decent newline in Unicode

exported registry file
Exporting a registry in Unicode (NT5) format from wine's regedit, it generates
ANSI newlines as shown in attached file.
Though the file can import to registry via regedit (this is the reason why I
choose `minor' in the severity), it's hard to edit in notepad or other editors
and incompatible with Windows.
% hexdump -C export.reg | head -6

As seen in above output, bytes from 0x4A to 0x4F (i.e. 0d 0a 00 0d 0a 00)
represent two ANSI newlines. But they should be two Unicode newlines (i.e. 0d
00 0a 00 0d 00 0a 00).
My environment is Ubuntu 10.10 (32-bit) and locale is ja_JP.UTF-8 (also tested
LANG=C).
How to reproduce:
1. Launch regedit.exe.
2. Select HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Drivers in the left treeview.
3. Click [Registry]-[Export Registry File] in the menu.
4. Change [Files of type] to [Registry files (*.reg)].
5. Enter a file name with appropriate name and click [Save] to export.
