Summary: LogPixels setting does not increase the size of mouse
pointers
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: silas-wine(a)flatline.org.uk
As far as I know, no version of Wine has any method of increasing the size of
the mouse pointers.
If you've artificially increased the DPI (LogPixels registry key) to make the
print larger, and/or you are using a high-resolution screen (e.g. the OLPC's
200dpi screen), it can be difficult to see where the mouse is.
It would be nice if the mouse pointer increased size in proportion to
everything else. Failing that, it would be nice if at least there were some
other way of increasing the cursor size (even if it's limited to integer scale
factors).

A example of resized virtual desktop
In latest versions of Wine (or at least 1.1.5 and after), the window containing
virtual desktop is no longer fixed-size. It's possible to maximize it and to
fullscreen it. (This is related to the bug 10839.)
But :
- The virtual desktop always displays in the top left corner of the window
containing it, it would be better if it always displays in the center of the
window ;
- Wine should display a black background in the entire window to avoid a
disgraceful display bug when you fullscreen the window containing the virtual
desktop.

Would you like to provide a direct selection indication in this user interface?

My program (it's very specific program, PCAD2002), pcb.exe, tries to start some
another programs one-by-one, waiting for finishing of each and get
return-codes. This happens normally in native Windows.
(these sub-apps is accel2sp.exe; specctra.exe; sp2accel.exe).
But under Wine, my pcb.exe can not wait for end of execution each program, and
statrs all three in one moment, and all work incorrectly because file generated
by first program, used in second, etc.
I try to use .bat file. Prorgams listed in .bat file, executes one-by-one. But,
main program, pcb.exe, when calls my .bat file, again can't wait for end of it
execution (and get return code).
Each program, at manual (standalone) running, is works fine. Wine not crashes
in any case.
I have Ubuntu 8.04, Wine 1.0 installed from repo's, no any tuning, no windows
DLLs, etc. Please help.

Hello all,
I use ubuntu 11.10 with wine 1.2.3, I tried upgrading to wine 1.3.24 (latest
working wine with no sound problem on ubuntu 11.10), and I still get this same
crash. I ran starcraft 2 on the terminal and here's the last lines I get when
the crash occurs. Hope they can give a hint at the possible problem. Note that
when the crash occurs I'm left at the windows crash report screen and I click
cancel to close it. Maybe providing that info may be useful as well?

Microsoft Office Tools is a directory which is installed in Programs\Microsoft
Office\ menu.
In polish version of MS Office 2007 Home and Student Box with service packs
this directory is duplicated - I mean it is installed in English version (as
Microsoft Office Tools) and in polish version. The launchers are linked to the
same executables, and, apart from comments, are exactly the same.
The problem exists since I first installed MS Office 2007 under wine/since I
remember.
Im unsure if the menus don't come from Service Pack installers - will check
"clean SP0 install" later. It might be also a MS Office bug.

Disable S3TC
This bug probably only effects a small amount of Ati graphics cards (or just
me) and the bug is probably driver related. Nonetheless I've decided to report
the bug here in case there's anyone else having similar problems as I've
experienced.
I was having problems getting Starcraft 2 to render correctly. Pure 3D details
was rendered correctly while some of the 2D elements where broken. Some of the
elements broken was buttons for controlling units and buttons for unit/building
production. Screenshots will follow in an attachment. Broken in this context
means that the images wasn't rendered correctly.
I searched the internet for a solution for the last few days without any luck.
Today I was using the open source graphic driver and noticed that it was able
to render 2D images correctly. That’s when I realised it must have been using a
different code path. With this new-found knowledge I realised that one of the
differences was the implementation of S3TC. A patent encumbered function which
compresses textures and which the open source version normally lacks. Firing up
google I soon found a fix to disable S3TC in wine. With S3TC disabled I no
longer experience any broken 2D images.
I'm using an Ati radeon 2000 series graphics card.
I'm stuck at fglrx 10.4 because of various driver bugs.
To enable the fix you need to build wine yourself. The patch itself just
changes one line and fools wine into thinking that S3TC isn’t supported by the
driver.
A real patch which would have 'fixed' this bug would have been by adding a
command line switch or a registry tweak which disabled S3TC. Implementing such
a patch is unfortunately beyond my wine knowledge.

the console output
I have a laptop with a internal screen (LPL), and I have a TV attached via
VGA.
When I have both screens active in twinview, starcraft2 does not start.
I use nvidia Xserver settings to setup my screens like this:
Model: LPL (dfp-0 on GPU)
Configuration: twinview
Resolution: 1440x900 Auto
position Absolute +0+0
[x] make this screen primary the the X screen
Model: Philips PHI32PFL3605
Configuration: twinview
Resolution: 1680x1050 Auto
Position: absolute +1440+0
[ ] make this screen primary the the X screen
Now I start starcraft2 from a terminal located on the TV.
Starcraft 2 crashes, and I can send a crash report to blizzard. I can't move my
cursor to the TV anymore, the mousecursor stops at the edge of my internal
screen. At the edge of the TV I can see about half of the cursor

I'm attaching three screenshots that illustrates this bug.
On first - only in in-game videos, when some character specking from 'video
communication' window (when 3d portraits enabled in games settings, of course),
it's enlarged and upside-downed portrait is shown in upper-left corner.
On second and third - In same upper-left corner we may see some parts of
dynamic surrounding's textures. This bugimage changes or dissapears as we move
camera over landscape. Mission on "Red Stone" is most affected - there is
almost no camera positions, where this bug isn't visible.
There is no such bug on orm=pbuffer or orm=backbuffer.

Screenshot of the game : it's almost all black !
I followed the HOWTO
(http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=19376) using
sources from the git repository (commit
5d4a7433a64dae95713fecb8a3d6c4f2a471ca37).
I installed the game, and it seems to be running perfectly : menus are well
displayed, sound works. But when playing a game, I can only see the minimap and
the menus (see the attachment), which makes the game impossible to play.
My configuration :
Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26Ghz
3GB of RAM
Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller
(driver : i915).
Though it's definitely not the best computer to play Starcraft II, the game
runs fine on Windows 7.
