Summary: starting games totaly kills the sound on the system
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.6
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P1
Component: directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: DoDoEntertainment(a)gmail.com
After starting a game, sound entirely dissapears from the system.
The fix is to invoke:
sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils reset Intel
Bug happens on ubuntu 8.04 x64 on "Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High
Definition Audio Controller".
It's a regression from 1.1.5.
I've noticed the disappearing of sound after starting gta:san andreas (which
works relatively fine under 1.1.5). Same happens if I start Heroes of Might and
Magic 4.

Loss of keyboard example
Hi All,
I am using Lotus Word Pro N9.8.0208.1200.
Occasionally when I am wring in a Word Pro document, I loose my keyboard. All
the pounding on my keyboard does nothing. The good news it that this time, I
can reproduce it. Ono the attached document, mouse to the bottom, then press
return a bunch of times to add more lines.
I would appreciate if you would fix this on quickly. It is driving me nuts
(and back to my XP VM!)
Many thanks,

On my desktop, Electronic Arts/The Battle for Middle-earth (tm) II Demo
runs great (except for not resetting video mode on exit).
On my lenovo T61 laptop, it hangs and then crashes right after the splash
screen.
Both are running Ubuntu 8.10 with the latest nvidia (177) driver.
Both have 2GB RAM.
The laptop has Quadro NVS 140M, the desktop has 8200 GT.
No settings were used.
The log is quite large.
I haven't had time to compare logs between the two systems yet,
and I haven't had any luck getting a backtrace in winedbg yet.
I guess the next step is to follow the appdb and try UseGLSL.

When the game is started, the sound that plays on the main screen is choppy.
When I enter the actual gameplay, the sound disappears (and doesn't come back).
I've tried with both the sound cards in my PC: the built-in Intel sound card
and a discrete Terratec Aureon Space 5.1, with exactly the same results.
Using latest wine from Ubuntu Lucid PPA:

The game is only available for purchase via the Intel AppUp center:
http://www.appup.com/applications/index for $10. And due to DRM, it has to be
cracked to get it over to your Linux installation. I would like to point out
that in my country of residence, Denmark, it is perfectly legal to remove DRM
from a product you have legally obtained in order to be able to use this
product fully.

Summary: Stuttering sound - winealsa.drv regression?
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.43
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: myself(a)rojer.pp.ru
here's a mail i sent more than a year ago to the person who introduced what
seems like a regression to me. i don't remember the details anymore, but the
bug - stuttering when playing HoMM3 - is still there (just verified with
1.1.43).
---
the regression manifests itself as rather annoying audio skipping and
stuttering.
having spent some time tracing and looking at the code, i believe that the
problem
was introduced by this change to dlls/winealsa.drv/waveout.c made on Oct 4:
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=commitdiff;h=717df5b2972b3cb998ca5…
specifically, this line
+ wwo->dwPlayedTotal += lpWaveHdr->reserved - wwo->dwPlayedTotal;
advances the dwPlayedTotal watermark when i believe it shouldn't.
fundamentally, only DSP can report how much has been played, updating this
pointer after reporting
that a sample has been played makes no sense. DSP has reported that it has
played
up to a certain point that covers the sample in question, we are reporting this
back and removing the sample.
we should *not* be changing the value DSP sent us.
i don't know what was the specific issue you were addressing with the patch in
question,
but i'd like you to take one more look at it, because removing this one line
fixes skipping and stuttering for me.

Screenshot error message
Immediately after launching Microsoft's SQL Server Management Studio express
and connecting to a remote server, a table is navigated to, via the Summary
pane.
Then the "New Query" button is pushed, which is supposed to open the "SQL
Query" pane, allowing the user to manually type an SQL query for the server to
execute. The pane opens, and a statement can be typed and executed. However,
a scary "OutOfMemory" error message appears, which is no doubt a sign of
further bad things to come...
Please see attached screenshot of error message and message log.

Picture of the bug
The game does not render what seems to be a layer of graphics properly during
fights, I have included a screenshot for reference. Compare to:
http://ps2media.gamespy.com/ps2/image/article/724/724566/melty-blood-act-ca…
This bug does not just affect this move, but also one of the characters is
invisible (extra boss, the giant neko Arc Chaos 666) from what I have heard.
Also, certain graphics, i.e. ones that show "fight" or "match start" or
whatever don't show at all(I don't know what they are since I never saw them on
screen because of this bug). The game's website is
http://e56.info/mbacwin/index.html. http://e56.info/mbacwin/mbacwin.cgi?trial
is a link to the download page of the trial (also reachable via the main site

I haven't tested the trial, but I suspect that it has the same problem.

Test VB6 wrong font size
There is an important issue with font size with VB6 applications.
I adjusted some VB6 applications from xp to linux using wine and the major
problem consists of something wrong on saved font size.
The test application has a label with a tahoma 14 font and the same saved in a
usercontrol with a property bag: in windows the two labels have obviously the
same size but not in wine!
On load event font name and size are printed on the respective label: It seems
the property value is right but font is not!

downloads and installs WMF11. This gives every appearance of working, until
setup is finished, and a window pops up saying Can't find Windows Media Player

This can be worked around by installing Windows Media Player 11 using the quiet

When playing eve some ship models are not rendered at all and some are
misrendered. this is with ATI Radeon X1600 (RV530) GPU and mesa drivers (latest
git). At first I blamed mesa (because NVIDIA 9600GSO with closed drivers works
fine), however according to developers the generated shaders are invalid:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Ian Romanick 2011-11-22 11:36:50 PST
The shader declares the array VC to have 245 elements:
uniform vec4 VC[245];
then it tries to access the 246th element of the array:
R0.xyz = (VC[245].xyz);
This is explicitly forbidden by GLSL, and it should be rejected by any GLSL
compiler. Page 31 of the GLSL 1.30 spec says:
"It is illegal to declare an array with a size, and then
later (in the same shader) index the same array with an
integral constant expression greater than or equal to the
declared size."
I tried this same shader with AMD's closed-source driver and piglits glslparser
test, and it failed to compile there as well:
Failed to compile vertex shader wine-from-eve.vert: Vertex shader failed to
compile with the following errors:
ERROR: 0:84: error(#147) '[' array index out of range '245'

Created an attachment (id=19755)

crash with no dll overrides
La-Mulana will crash on startup due to incomplete dmusic support;
If dmusic (and its related dlls) are set to override to native dlls, but no
native dlls are supplied, the game will run, but without music. Sound effects
will work fine.
If native dlls are supplied for dmusic, dmime, dmsynth and dmband, the music
will work as well.(This produces a slew of fixmes from dmstyle and dmloader,
yet the builtin implementation of those two dlls are good enough for the music
to work)
If no overrides are set, the game will attempt to use the builtin
implementation in wine, and will crash.
The ONLY dll override necessary to make the game run without music(whether or
not you supply a native dll) is WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dmime=n"
with WINEDLLOVERRIDES left at "", we get a crash:
<see attachment crash1.txt>
Other crashes occur if of those 4 dlls listed above, dmusic is left as builtin
and the others all native, or if dmusic is left native and all the rest
builtin. The crash is slightly different if dmloader is native.
La-Mulana is freeware and can be obtained from
http://lamulana.super-turbo.net/LA-MULANA.zip
The japanese to english translation patch inside that .zip file works fine in
wine.
P.S. Somewhat unrelated: with the builtin implemnentation of dmband (and native
dmusic, dmime and dsynth, all others builtin), the console messages indicate
that it is certainly trying to play the music and is incrementing through the
music files (which are directmusic .sgt files) but is unable to actually
produce sound

Bug #: 30299
Summary: Graphical glitches AMD/ATI graphic cards in some
specific games.
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.0
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Mac OS X
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: paulthetall(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
There are a list of games which do work fine on the Mac with Nvidia graphical
Cards, but give massive graphical glitches on AMD/ATI graphical Cards. Examples
of games which are infected with the issue:
Red Faction Guerilla
Tombraider Underworld
Assassin Creed
Lara croft and the guardian of Light
Crysis 2
The saboteur
Lord of the Rings War of the North
The adventures of Tintin
and quite some others which are infected
UseGLSL=disabled does not work in those cases and also changing display
settings in the game (like shadows and such which might sometimes help in other
games with other graphhical glitches). So this passes that part.
There is a demo for Lara croft and the guardian of light which you can download
to test http://store.steampowered.com/app/35130/
Linux users probably won't have this issue becasue they can install graphical
driver updates from the Graphical card developers. Apple on the otherhand have
not that luxury and we are stuck and dependent on apple updates. However
somehow Transgaming with his Cider wrappers which is mostly wine overrulled
this issue for AMD Radeon/ATI cards. So it is possible to run this kinda games
on the Mac. Most likely because Chris bently from AMD Supported Cider so it
might be they give some fixes for this kinda issues to Cider which they used to
get it run properly for AMD Radeon card Macs.
So to you guys the question to look into it. You can use the deo te reproduce
it on an AMD/ATI Mac to get the right debugcode. Also I made a video which
shows the graphical glitches i talk about up here:

Summary: Techland games do not start, DRM fails.
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Mac OS X

DRM issues are a common issue in wine. Lots of them are solved luckily, however
there are still games which does not work without a crack. Whereunder in this
case most of the digital/DVD games of techland.
http://www.gamersgate.com/publisher/58/techland
- Call of Juarez does work, but has different (newer Securom system)
But the other games of them do not run without crack and that issue is there in
all version of Wine:
- GTI racing
- Chrome
- Chrome Specforce
- FIM Speedway GP3
- Xpand Rally
So altough Gamersgate claims that some of the above mentioned games are DRM
free, it still fails witout crack.
Please not if you need a specific debugrun + extensions what i need to run for
you guys to get the issue clear for you guys. Thanks in advance!

error log
I am a newbie posting bug reports, so bear with me (and any extra info, just
holler).
1. Space Empires V patched to 1.79 (although not registered, because I have
been unable to).
2. On Kubuntu Oneiric fully patched.
3. Wine 1.4 fully patched to the latest version in the wine ppa.
4. Using amstream and quartz dll native overrides. This seems to shut off most
of the complaints.
5. The game installs, patches and starts but is otherwise completely
unplayable, with graphics (sound?) completely botched.
Attached is an error.log file. Most of it was deleted, because it simply
repeated the following four lines:

Crash report
I'm having problems running an old Win 3.11 game named Mortuum. Wine crashes
before the game start. After some debugging, I noticed the crash happens in
file gdi32/driver.c on function DEVMODEW * WINAPI GdiConvertToDevmodeW(const
DEVMODEA *dmA).
This function tries to memcpy bytes from the structer dmA to the structure dmW
(that was allocated by a HeapAlloc()). Unfortunately, it tries to copy -32
bytes because dmA->dmSize is 0 bytes and CCHDEVICENAME is 32 bytes. I've
attached a small piece of code that shows where the memcpy is done around line
425 on that file.
...
dmW = HeapAlloc(GetProcessHeap(), 0, dmW_size + dmA->dmDriverExtra);
if (!dmW) return NULL;
MultiByteToWideChar(CP_ACP, 0, (const char*) dmA->dmDeviceName,
CCHDEVICENAME,dmW->dmDeviceName, CCHDEVICENAME);
//===============================CRASH=========================
/* copy slightly more, to avoid long computations */
memcpy(&dmW->dmSpecVersion, &dmA->dmSpecVersion, dmA->dmSize -
CCHDEVICENAME);
//===============================CRASH=========================
if (dmA->dmSize >= (const char *)dmA->dmFormName - (const char *)dmA +
CCHFORMNAME)
{
MultiByteToWideChar(CP_ACP, 0, (const char*) dmA->dmFormName,
CCHFORMNAME,
dmW->dmFormName, CCHFORMNAME);
if (dmA->dmSize > (const char *)&dmA->dmLogPixels - (const char *)dmA)
memcpy(&dmW->dmLogPixels, &dmA->dmLogPixels, dmA->dmSize - ((const
char *)&dmA->dmLogPixels - (const char *)dmA));
}
...
I tried to debug more to look for the root of the problem (why dmA->dmSize is
0) but there were too many calls and I couldn't figure out where the dmA
structure was allocated and popullated.
I've attached the crash report and if you need the game to test, just ask, it's
freeware. Tested on 0.9.44 and 0.9.45.

Unfortunatrly, it does not appear to be fixed for me. The mouse movement is
usually slow, and sometimes the cursor 'jumps' to the right side or to the
bottom. This is most noticeable in Virtual Desktop mode, where I can't even
move a mouse without the cursor jumping back where it was. This affects both
the menus and the actual game. Tested with both Steam and GOG versions of
Fallout2.
Wine 1.4-0ubuntu1
Kubuntu 12.04
Not sure if it is relevant, but I am playing Fo2 on Intel HD 3000 GPU. I am

wine is flooding xorg with EDID requests (xrandr) and causing X to block for
several seconds!. Every progress bar update triggers an xrandr request and a
block of X. I am aware that there is a standing kernel bug, and that there has
been an old wine bug for this (bug 11470), but the real problem is that:
1) wine is calling xrandr repeatedly for every app start (and during running)
which it shouldn't.
2) wine should use xrandr --current which does not reprobe but takes the
current results and does not block at all! ( also see active conversation
https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/2/24/22)
Using xrandr --current would solve the issue. It is still the question why wine
needs to probe so often in the first place, no other app needs to do this.

According to documentation for SetCooperativeLevel, flags DDSCL_NORMAL and
DDSCL_EXCLUSIVE, or DDSCL_FULLSCREEN cannot be set together. Wine`s
implementation is fully compatible with documentation, however exists at least
one game, which violates this restriction (Rig-n-roll 2, Dal`noboyshiki 2).
During startup this game tries to set coopLevel with following parameters:
DDSCL_FULLSCREEN DDSCL_ALLOWREBOOT DDSCL_NORMAL DDSCL_ALLOWMODEX
DDSCL_EXCLUSIVE.
Implementation of SetCooperativeLevel prohibits this mask (and returns with
DDERR_INVALIDPARAMS error), and game unable to start with message: "this
computer does not have graphics accelerator".
In attachment patch for function IDirectDrawImpl_SetCooperativeLevel, which
allows to run this application.

Sound corruption in Lord of the Rings Online. Occasionally, instead of a
monster sound or horse sound, the sound will just be digital garbage layered in
with the other sounds. It's not always the same sound, and not always for that
sound, just occasionally.
I know that's pretty vague.. I'll try to get some trace output, but wine
crashes occasionally (for other reasons - has on LotRO for a while) and I
wanted to get something entered to remind me before the machine tanked again.

This is the very similar to closed bug #13170. I am running a laptop freshly
updated to Fedora 11 x86. I tried uninstalling wine, the reinstalling it,
deleting my enitire ~/.wine tree then running winecfg. When I select the Audio
tab, I get a message to the effect that wine has automatically selected a sound
for me and that I need to click Apply to make this permanent. If I hit the
"Test Sound" button, I get the following messages on the terminal from which I
launched winecfg
270 roland> winecfg

with the last message repeated until winecfg hangs completely (no more
messages, but no response at all).
Killing and relaunching winecfg results in the same sequence.
However, if instead of clicking on "Test Sound" I click on "Apply", then
winecfg will still hang as above, but the *next* time I launch winecfg this
does not happen. I get only the following to lines

Bug #: 29931
Summary: DC Universe Online fails to start with nVidia driver
295.20
Product: Wine
Version: 1.4-rc4
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: 6tsukiyami9(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
I'm not sure if this is a Wine or nVidia bug, but with the 295.20 driver DC
Universe Online's launcher fails to start, freezing at the first black loading
screen and using up to 100% one core, giving the error i attached.
Googling a bit, it may actually stop working because it doesn't detect any
graphic card's driver, but somehow other applications (both native and run
through wine) don't seem to have any problem. Downgrading nVidia drivers back
to 290.10 seemingly fixed this.
To reproduce this bug:
- Download the installer from here: http://www.dcuniverseonline.com/
- Install it
- Run Launchpad.exe
Then it should stop on the black rectangle with SOE logo, and on the shell
you'll see the xml dump.
About my OS, I'm running Debian Sid x86_64, wine version 1.4-rc4.

Summary: Nancy drew game crashes on load

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: eyecreate(a)gmail.com
It's funny it's currently only happening on this one out of all 5-6 tried
before that work with Gold status in Wine, but #13, The Last Train seems to
start up and then stop with just a quick screen flash. It was hard to get any
information out of it, on one computer, it would make gnome-terminal disappear
and die when the game crashed. I tested this on another computer using
PlayonLinux to test it on all wine version(that I considered major) from 0.9.7
to current. The problem existed on all of them. Wine only spit out a few lines
of info when running it in a different terminal:
fixme:keyboard:X11DRV_LoadKeyboardLayout L"00000409", 0001: stub!
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps OpenGL implementation supports 32 vertex
samplers and 32 total samplers
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps Expected vertex samplers + MAX_TEXTURES(=8) >
combined_samplers
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x325054,0x00000000), stub!
I plan on posting this, if the fix isn't quick, at codeweavers, since I have a
subscription with them and more heads are better on hard to solve problems.

The dolphin gamecube/wii emulator crashes when launching. Sometimes it doesn't
crash if I run it in gdb or with strace. Here is the error:
WINEDEBUG=+seh wine Dolphin.exe:

I tried to do a backtrace with gdb, but it didn't give me any useful
information, even when compiling with "-ggdb" as the instructions here suggest:
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/qa/backtraces.xml
I'm running from a local build directory, and not from a gentoo install as
well, so nothing should be getting stripped.
This bug occurs with wine-1.5 but also with older versions such as wine-1.2. It
did not happen with my old system (Socket 775 E5200) but does with my new
system (Socket 1155 i5 2500k). Perhaps because the CPU is much more powerful
and so is causing some sort of timing issue, as strace or gdb allow it to run
sometimes, although it still may crash before entering a game, but after
launching the GUI. The operating system is mostly the same, although was
compiled for the new CPU with "-march=native". However, the older versions of
wine were compiled for my old system, so they shouldn't crash if that was the
issue.

Of course, but it's hard to implement/test if no one has the app ;).
Win95/Win98 aren't deprecated. DOS support is done using dosbox if available,
though there's still some DOS support, it's not fully removed yet.
