Winedbg trace
By trying to install the demo of reason V4, Wine comes up with an error:
"Access violation at address 004097C2. Write of address 00400000."
Rebirth338v20 installed successfully and works properly. I've got not idea what
to do to have the Reason demo installation work.
Running winedbg gives the attached document.

Terminal output with and without overrides.
Whenever selecting text and right-clicking, the mini-toolbar pops up above the
right-click menu. However, when clicking any of the buttons, the menu and
toolbar closes, but nothing changes in the selected text.
If trying to change the font type or font size by clicking the arrow on the
drop down menu, the drop down choices (e.g. font type or font size) shows
momentarily for half a second. However, both the mini-toolbar and right-click
closes down before selecting a font type or font size.

I see the same with:
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce GTX 295/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 285.05.05
(though I don't get sound).
Native amstream cuts out the fixme's/the loop, but then the game hangs on
gstreamer related stuff.
In any case, the crash is fixed, the other issues are separate bugs.

My game crashes at the beginning of a new game. It opens, runs fine, and then
when a new game starts it just crashes. I'm using driconf for my 3D rendering
because my computer has an nVidia card. I don't know how to put the "code" for
the my crash on here, but I can if I get some instruction on the matter.

I installed IE8 in 1.3.19/1.3.20 and it always shows me standard error message
on startup. This message doesn't prevent me from using IE but it's annoying.

I believe this bug should be reopened.
I'm trying to install IE6 from winetricks with wine-1.4-rc6 on Ubuntu Precise
64 bit, using WINEARCH=win32 (installing on win64 doesn't even start).
Here's a snippet of the output I get:

Hi,
[I set the component of this bug to directx-d3d, but I'm not certain that's
correct.]
WinUAE is an open-source Amiga emulator. I tested WinUAE version 2.3.3 in Wine.
The test system was running Lubuntu 11.10 x86-64 with Nvidia graphics driver
version 285.
There has been a regression, probably some time between 1.3.15 and 1.3.28. (I
don't recall seeing this issue with Wine 1.3.15 in Xubuntu 9.10 32-bit.)
First test, using Wine 1.2.3. This works correctly:
- Download and run the WinUAE installer.
- Run winuae.exe
- Click OK at the dialog box about system ROMs.
- The WinUAE Properties window appears. Click Start.
- The emulation window opens. It shows shades of grey for several seconds,
then "No bootable media found..." text. There's a red mouse pointer which you
can move.
Second test, running Wine 1.3.28:
- First four steps as above.
- The emulation window opens. There is just graphical trash/garbage in it. The
window contents are static, and don't have any relation to the graphics which
should be there.
Testing with Wine 1.3.34 shows the same problem as 1.3.28.
There's little difference in console output testing with 1.3.28 vs 1.2.3. There
was this line in the 1.3.28 output:
fixme:d3d:swapchain_init Add OpenGL context recreation support to
context_validate_onscreen_formats
However I've seen similar lines with other programs before when there was no
corruption.

This issue occurs for the first time in 1.3.23 and also 1.3.24 and 1.3.25.
When testing the latest git development code (it was a while ago) I
noticed a strong performance regression when running direct3d
applications. I proceeded with git bisecting the issue and came up with
a single bad commit, reverting the offending commit fixed the issue.
Note: All tests were run with "Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour"
and "Starcraft 2".

Nvidia's 270.xx.yy driver series fix the glMapBuffer alignment
issues that caused major
performance problems. If the user is using an older driver we now
drop the VBO instead of using
doublebuffered loading, which means that we fall back to the current
behavior(no dynamic VBO) as
needed. Dynamic VBOs are needed on Nvidia drivers for
GL_ARB_instanced_arrays.

When you do an ingame screenshot in WoW running under d3d, if
offscreenrendering is set to fbo, the following error is spit out:

The produced screenshot is completely black. This happens at least as early as

There have been a few different bugs reported in wine's bugzilla that ended up

When I start KOTOR with patch 1.3 installed, I get an error message
"Conflict with Disc Emulator software detected. See www.securom.com/emulation

It starts without the patch (though only using a virtual desktop). It might be

Earth Eternal is an online game by Sparkplay Media with an AppDB entry here:

The game is usually started with a parameter telling it where to find its
resources. The parameter takes the form of a URL.
The current standard URL is used here:
wine Spark.exe
"http://static.beta.eartheternal.com/Release/Current/EarthEternal.car"
However, if this is done in WINE, Earth Eternal floods WINE with
gethostbyname() calls (500 calls per second on my machine). The calls all
return the correct IP address, I've verified this by adding some ugly trace
code to dlls/ws2_32/socket.c. Since Earth Eternal is closed source, we cannot
find out whether the result of the gethostbyname() call is used correctly or
whether that loop of gethostbyname() calls is a bug.
We are now trying to disassemble the binary to find out.
It seems the game might work otherwise, it has a simple 3D renderer built in a
popular engine (OGRE), and there are a few OGRE-based games that already work
in WINE.
There is a workaround to at least partially get EE to connect and retrieve its
data files. If started like this:
wine Spark.exe "http://208.71.157.18/Release/Current/EarthEternal.car"
The date files are fetched and installed. Connection still fails at the login
screen, though, because the program then proceeds to establish *all*
connections with 208.71.157.18 instead of using the respective servers (login,
static content and routing servers).

Hey all.
Just to say I too am having this error, and I'm using 1.4-rc2. Yeah, pressure
sensitivity for Wine is still not fixed even now! I have the same problem with
Paint Tool SAI as well. Pressure (obviously) is a pretty large part of drawing,
would love to see it fixed asap.
Anyhow, it's 1am, I'm off to bed. I'll keep checking by on this bug report
every so often.

In earlier versions ( i think <= 1.3.35 ) you could turn off the window
decorations in winecfg, if you specify this now it dosnt have an effent at all,
this is kinda anoying since i love to use virtualdesktops between my panels. if
im correct then this started with 1.3.36 or 1.3.37. first i thougd this is just
a little regression but this is still an issue.

Indeed I think the original bug is fixed, the application starts fine, loads
the sample files and run several operations from the toolbar. The graphics it
should be drawing are not working but thats a subject for another bug.

After upgrading from 1.3.37 to 1.4-rc1, Steam is unable to launch a game. This
occurs in both my normal prefix and a new prefix that I created. When trying
to launch a game, Steam displays the normal dialog showing that it is launching
the game, but then the dialog disappears and nothing happens. This is on
Debian wheezy AMD64 built with gcc 4.6.2-4.

On my Macs Snowleopard and Lion I have to put the DirectDrawRenderer still on
GDI. If I put it to OPENGL to get the proper speed, THe game starts up
graphical Messed up. So opengl does not work proper still in RC5.

On my laptop, with wine 1.4RC5 on Ubuntu 11.10 64bit, with a nVidia card G210M
(it's a hybrid graphics laptop, I use bumblebee-nvidia 3.0 to support the
nVidia card), I've just quickly tested Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 - Yuri's
Revenge: 1.001 and it works. The cursor blinks a bit but the game speed seems
correct. At last :)
With the Intel GM45 card (module i915), however, the game freezes at the
beginning of a game, with the error
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7df561e0 "x11drv_main.c:
X11DRV_CritSection" wait timed out in thread 003e, blocked by 002b, retrying
(60 sec)

But I suppose it's another, regression bug.

I have a .bik file (in this case extracted from FF8 CD)
using binkplay.exe 1.0 I run
wine start binkplay.exe Clip.bik
This starts a video playing
By default, when the cursor is moved outside the window, the video pauses and
the sound is muted. Then when the cursor is moved back inside the window, the
video resumes but the _sound does not_.
Using the binkplay.exe /J option means that the video does not pause when the
mouse is moved outside the window and in this case sound is not lost.

The game Saira crashes on startup if you choose 'Fullscreen' option in the
configuration utility.
The game uses a weird 1024x600 screen resolution so I tested using Wine's
virtual desktop mode.
How to reproduce the issue in the demo:
1. Download and install the demo (240 MB). After installation Msvcp60.dll must
be placed into /system32 to start the game.
2. Launch the configuration utility by 'Settings.exe' and make sure Display
mode is set to 'Fullscreen'.
3. Press on 'Exit & Launch Game' >> Wine will crash.

Since several wine versions I can not play GalCiv2:Twilight of the Arnor game.
After a several dozens of turns the game interface freezes and all text in it
disappears. If I'm enabling autosave then I also get the "Out of memory"
message (possibly caused by autosaving attempt).
I've made some testing and found that initially the game uses ~600 MiB of RAM
but after each turn the memory consumption increases significantly (more than
30 MiB each turn even when playing on small maps) and when it reaches ~1.7 GiB
the game stops responding.
If it matters I use 64-bit openSuSe Linux 12.1, Core 2 Duo E8500, 6GiB RAM and
nVidia GTX 460 1GB video card with latest stable nVidia proprietary driver.
These are the wine packages I have currently installed:

Loading screen of Re-Volt 1.2 Alpha 12.0107
For years the borders "(spru)" around the menus in Re-Volt have been missing in
Wine and this is also the case with the Wine v1.4-rc3. All other HUD elements
appear normally. I have been investigating this issue with a lot of help from
Re-Volt 1.2 Patch developer Huki and he managed to compile a build of Re-Volt
for me which doesn't suffer from this issue.
Here is what Huki wrote to me in an e-mail:
"Vertices of the quad used to draw the menu-box and borders (spru) were using z
coordinate value of 300. Changing it to zero seems to be working (which was
already the case for rest of the HUD parts). But the Z-Buffer is turned off
during 2D drawing anyway, so the vertex z coordinate should be ignored (and it
is when running natively in Windows). Perhaps Wine does not handle the Direct3D
Z-Buffer Render State call
IDirect3DDevice3::SetRenderState(D3DRENDERSTATE_ZENABLE, D3DZB_FALSE)
properly."
The terminal output for Re-Volt 1.2 Alpha 12.0107 ("revolt.exe") and the
modified Re-Volt build ("rvwine.exe") are identical to each other despite the
now working borders in the latter build.

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars hangs at splash screen. The CPU usage is at
100% and there appears to be no hard disk utilization.
Tested with Wine versions: 1.1.24, 1.1.23, 1.1.20, 1.1.18, 1.1.10, 1.1.8
Same results on all of them.
Tested using "Windows XP" and "Vista" options. Nothing works. It was suggested
to disable all audio modules in winecfg, but that did not help either.

How to reproduce:
Start Fx3, press F11 two times (go fullscreen and back).
The window should have the same size as it had before, but it seems it just
remains being full sized (eg. it becomes an odinary window but still has
1280x800 on my system)
On KDE4 this leads to the title bar being hidden (window has negative top). On
KDE3, the window is positioned at (0,0), but because it's to large it continues
behind the taskbar. After going fullscreen and back again, there's the same
effect as on KDE4.

In Igor Pro 6.12A, drop-down menus don't work properly, they can only be
activated when you click on them, holding pressing an arrow key.
For example, go to the menu 'Analysis' -> 'Packages' -> 'Multipeak Fitting' ->
'Multipeak Fitting 2'. A window called 'Start Multi-peak Fit' should appear.
Try to click on the drop-down menu 'Panel Position'. This doesn't work. It only
opens, when you click on the menu and then press an arrow key, but even for
that, you sometimes need several tries.

The game will change your resolution, but won't start, and give an unhandled
exception window (which you can't see, it's all black).
Running it in a virtual desktop, however, almost works. In a virtual desktop,
you'll only see the blue screen until you click inside, at which point the

The freopen calls should cause stderr and stdout to be redirected
to the console. Under wine they are not.
The failure occurs in dlls/kernel32/console.c function OpenConsoleW
when it checks creation != OPEN_EXISTING. creation at that point is
CREATE_ALWAYS.
Changing the check to allow CREATE_ALWAYS fixes my problem, but
may not be right.
(The code is from Gnumeric, btw.)

GeForce GTS250 with Twinview enabled, using nvidia binary driver from rpmfusion
Compiz disabled
When running World of Warcraft in Windowed/Maximized OpenGL mode, I seem to be
getting 100% CPU usage from Xorg and about 20% from WoW.exe but can't pin down
a certain way to reproduce it, therefore I assume there is a race condition
somewhere, but not sure if it is in Xorg or wine.
It does not result in a complete system hang. I am able to (slowly) get over to
my open terminal window, open a new tab, get top running, see Xorg chewing
through my processor, and then switch back to WoW to open the menu and hit
exit.
Once I get into top, my keyboard stops responding, even outside the terminal
window. Alt+Tab works to bring up the switcher menu, but won't actually switch,
'q' won't quit top, and alt+f4 won't quit wow, but the Escape key will at least
bring up the in-game menu to let me hit Exit Game. Once the menu is up I have
to slowly nudge the mouse toward the exit button since the FPS has dropped to
0.4fps by this point.
I would provide logs, but since I'm not sure what all areas this could touch, I
figured better to ask what you need me to do than provide useless information.

This is a regression. This problem does not exist in 1.4-rc3. I plan to run a
regression test to find the exact commit. The application is downloadable.
Start from a fresh WINE prefix area with no pre-existing WINE processes
running.
When starting the application, it presents a 'Welcome ...' dialog. Click on
'New'. Enter any filename, click 'Save'. Click 'Cancel' on the next two
dialogs. This puts you in the family view with no pre-existing data. I get
the same results even if I use pre-existing data, but it's easier to bring up
without pre-existing data.
Click on the yellow question mark in the icon bar near the top of the window.
This brings up the help viewer.
In the left-hand pane of the help viewer, click on chapter titles starting at
the top. Click at least one per second. At some point between about the
seventh entry and the bottom of the list, you will see a dialog saying the
application needs to close. The console will show an unhandled page fault.
I'll attach console output.
The visible symptoms here look very similar to some old bugs seen in
1.3.12-1.3.15, 0.9.57-0.9.60, 0.9.50, 0.9.52, 0.9.39, and 0.9.37. Bug number
25873 is a good example.

Wine displays strange "rays" in some places. It is easy to reproduces in the
sewers (right at the beginning) where water splashes from the ceiling: the rays
are displayed in addition to the water effect.
The attached screenshot was made later into the game but shows the same thing.

After upgrading from Wine 1.3.28 to 1.3.32 and in all subsequent Wine releases,
the font spacing has become far too wide in Finale 2012. This was not an issue
in Wine 1.3.28 or earlier. Perhaps the new DIB engine changes are responsible?
Unfortunately, I haven't had time to run a regression test to know for sure.
I have attached a screenshot showing the difference in font spacing between
Windows XP and Wine as well as the Finale .MUS file used in the screenshot. To
reproduce the bug, a trial version of Finale 2012 can be downloaded from here:

Men of War works fine, and every setting in the options menu is the same as it
is on Windows 7, with one exception: I cannot set antialiasing options to
anything other than "none". On Windows I can go up to 8x.
I have an NVidia GTS 450 with proprietary drivers (260.19.06) running on Ubuntu

Running DeusEx since 0.9.56 in resolution different to 640x480, results in
incorrect fullscreen positioning and picture cropping to upper-left quarter of

Bug 1: The game runs in fullscreen mode, but the Ubuntu menu bar and task bar
hide a bit of the game display.
Bug 2: If several programs are running, it is typically possible to switch
between them by pressing Alt-TAB -- but the game won't show up! I only see the
other programs I'm running.
Bug 3: The game changes my screen resolution from 1366x768 to 640x480. If I
start the game, press "enter" at the title screen and then "exit", my screen's
resolution changes back to 1366x768 when I'm exiting the game.
Now try another thing: start the game, press "enter" at the title screen and
then "new game". The stage will load. Now press the "escape" key and then
"exit" (ゲーム終了 if you're using the default Japanese language setting). You
should now be back at the title screen. Now you can repeat: "enter" and then
"exit". This time, the screen resolution *doesn't* change back to 1366x768, and
it is necessary to manually go to the display settings to fix the resolution.
Bug 4: If I Alt-TAB to another program, the game still hides that program,
unless I'm also changing workspace.
Bug 5: The game is a 4:3 game but the image is stretched out on my 16:9
display. When using the same hardware but rebooting into Windows 7, I get a 4:3
image with black bars on the left and right sides. Thus, Wine and Windows
behave differently. Maybe this is because of a setting; I'm not sure.
None of these bugs applies if I'm using the "emulate a desktop" setting in
Wine's configurations. They only apply if this setting is unchecked.
When launching the game, there is first a dialogue box with settings for fonts
and other things. The bugs don't apply to this dialogue box. Press the button
in the dialogue box and the game will start and then the bugs will apply.

In dlls/ntdll/nt.c cpu speed on FreeBSD is actually taken from sysctl
"dev.cpu.0.freq". If the related value could not be found default value of 1GHz
is used.
Actually FreeBSD does not provide a sysctl variable "dev.cpu.0.freq".
The actual speed of the cpu is stored in sysctl variable "hw.clockrate".

When you create a new file to the welcome interface (screencap1.png), the
software fails to finish loading the workspace (screencap2.png) and start
reporting tool bug Graphisoft (screencap3.png)
same problem with versions 14 and 15 of ArchiCAD

Occasionally, the game will render the stage background incorrectly.
For example, on stage 4, the background is supposed to be a raging waterfall
with falling maple leaves, however, sometimes this will be rendered as maple
leaves falling against a plain, crimson red background.
Other levels suffer from this bug in a similar manner except for the color of
the matte background.
The error message associated with this bug is to the best of my knowledge as
follows:

Result of WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid wine TeamViewer.exe &>/tmp/relay.txt
I installed TeamViewer with the default options. At the end the cursor blinks
forever so I ctrl-c it.
I moved to the working directory and tried to launch TeamViewer with: wine
TeamViewer.exe
The app doesn't start and I get an error in terminal (check attach)
I went to #winehq irc to find help, I did steps below :
I removed my .wine directory and re-installed TeamViewer: same error
I did a trace log with WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid wine TeamViewer.exe
&>/tmp/relay.txt and lzma -9 /tmp/relay.txt
You can find the trace log in attachment
Focht thinks it's because of a heap corruption, I did
WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid,+heap wine TeamViewer.exe &>/tmp/relay.txt and
TeamViewer launches succesfully but it doesn't lauch with WINEDEBUG=warn+heap
wine ./TeamViewer.exe
So I now use WINEDEBUG=+seh,+tid,+heap wine TeamViewer.exe &>/tmp/relay.txt for
a workaround but still looking for a fix.
