This usually happens when entering a new area (after the loading screen) or coming out of character management and equipment screens. The stuckedness can be undone by holding the stuck key for a few seconds and releasing. This happen semi-frequently. Also, occasionally something sticks that makes the character move in a very halted manner. The character will run for three or four steps before he is forced to walk again. After 6-8 steps, the character will resume running for 3-4 steps. This behavior loops until both Skyrim and WINE are completely closed. It is not resolved simply by relaunching Skyrim. It may be that this occurs when a different key gets stuck, but I do not know which key would stick that way. These behaviors witnessed in Wine 1.5.6 - 4c7f6f6. There are a few issues: 1. The installer seems to hang at the very end. I waited for a while, then I killed it. I'm not sure if this has caused some of the other issues. 2. The menus are invisible, unless I blindly click on one of them, then move the mouse left-right. After a while they disappear again. 3. The file selector doesn't work very well. E.g., I click Open File, then I try to move into another directory in the file selector window - except it won't do anything. I click on the folder, it won't navigate to it. I have to drop down the top "Look In" element and select the directory there. Developing the files seems to work fine. Example: - Open File, choose RAW file - mess with the menus on the left side if you want to choose different parameters (or don't, if the defaults are fine) - go to Development menu, click Development, save as TIFF Voila, the RAW file is developed. I have not made any comparisons yet with files developed on Windows, to see if there are any differences under Wine. System is ThinkPad T61 running Ubuntu 8.10 32 bit fully updated. The same error occurs with the demo version (which I've tracked down and uploaded for this report). To reproduce, start the game, right-click the building and click the tank icon at the bottom several times to buy 6 or 7 tanks. After a while a tip will appear on the screen that says click to continue. Click the mouse and then wait for more tanks to arrive, after 4 or 5 tanks have arrived the program will crash. It requires direct sound card access using WDM. The programme launches and runs ok, but it is not possible to configure the sound card setup and therefore it will not operate. It has drop down boxes to select the soundcard hardware, but these are empty. The speech package will download and install, but doesn't seem to function. The console shows The RosettaStoneDaemon service is starting. The RosettaStoneDaemon service was started successfully. fixme:file:MoveFileWithProgressW MOVEFILE_WRITE_THROUGH unimplemented recv failed with error 28 for socket 160 ... and then the app says the speech component has a problem. Tried to get a +relay log without luck. The trial was free because I am evaluating it for a school. In imitating the Windows memory model, Wine limits the use of memory to preallocated memory from 2GB to 3GB (0x7ffe0000). The OpenGL driver on Mac OS X (particularly on machines that use integrated video cards with shared memory, although I've encountered the crash on my machine with a discrete card) seems to not fit in with this, allocating textures outside the regular Wine block. Modifying the user_space_limit set in libs/wine/mmap.c can mitigate this issue somewhat on some machines, but it doesn't appear to be all that safe (or all that permanent) of a fix. A bug? Since the official Debian packages are stuck on Wine 1.1.x, now i'm using the rpm provided by Suse (latest 1.3.5), converted to deb with alien. We have an old custom closed source application that almost works under Wine, except for an important portion. This application is a mix of Microfocus Cobol and VB6 that interacts with a MSSQL2000 server through ODBC. We have no access to the source code. The problematic part is a sub-program that starts a graphic form, where i have to fill two field, then press a sort of "OK" button to exec a query (see attached "form-windows.jpg"). When the form opens, under Windows (98, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, 7) the cursor is on the first field and blinks; now i type a specific char to define the query type and the cursor automatically moves to the next field, where i can type my search parameter; then i click "Invio" to start the query; a new windows opens with the search results. Under Wine the cursor doesn't automatically move from the first to the second field but, more important, when i click on "Invio" nothing happen: the windows doesn't react to any events and i have to kill the process to close it. But it's not blocked: i can delete what i've typed, and i can see to button go up and down when i click it. This unresponsive behaviour is the same if i don't fill any field. The difficult part is that when this forms is open, there is some code spinning under the hood (as i can see from the cpu usage) and it's like that by design, since it happens also under Windows. This has the side effect to flood the logs and render them very difficult to read. I've setup mdac28 with winetricks, registered some needed DLL, but i'm not able to find if something else is missing. During the last month i've tried installing many things: JET, DCOM, older MDAC, etc. Nothing changed. The most useful infos i've found are from Dependency Walker, profiling with the options reported in the "dependencywalker.jpg" attachment. I've attached the logs taken from Windows 2000 (AcmEngWR_wine135_ced002.mod.txt) and from Wine 1.3.5 (AcmEngWR_wine135_wine.mod.txt). They are hand modified to make diff easier: i've removed all except the log, removed timestamps, unified filesystem path, reordered many loaded DLL and removed loaded DLLs later unloaded. >From these modified logs you can see that under Windows 5 thread are created, always started by kernel32.dll, while under Wine only 4 are started and called by MTXDM.DLL and OLEDB32.DLL. For the rest Windows loads mode DLLs but i can't understand it they are really needed and if they corresponds to something that i have to install under Wine too. Have you got some advice to track down these problem? I can provide the unmodified Dependency Walker logs, Wine logs or launch Wine with the required parameter, if needed. All but 2 of the games start correctly from the default installation directory. Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars and Battle for Europe throw an error dialogue on startup, claiming that certain audio files are missing. The error message: 'Class engine error: Unable to load sound: SOUND\INTERFACE\INTERF_ARMY1.WAV' It took some time until I recognized that the problem has something to do with the path: after shortening the directory names by several characters, both games start fine. Here is an example of one of the 'missing' files: C:\\Program Files\\DotEmu\\All Cossacks And American Conquest Series\\Cossacks II - Napoleonic Wars\\SOUND\\INTERFACE\\INTERF_ARMY1.WAV There is no such problem when starting the games in WinXP: they run correctly from their default install directory. The same problem with Wine-0.9.33, 1.0.1, 1.2.3 and so on. So the too-large window extends past the right and bottom edges of the screen. The program then appears to hang. Same thing happens with virtual desktop mode enabled. I will try to explain the situation with HoM&M: As I start the game the 3DO animation is often shited a bit to the upper-left but moving cursor in the corner upper-left corner centers it. Now while playing the actual game at some point (sometimes quite soon sometimes after a while) while trying to y see the desktop. The resmove the map with a cursor you start to move the whole game screen. When game screen is shifted you can clearlolution is 800x600 ("Heroes" resolution) but desktop seem to be size 1280x1024 which is the native resolution of my display. This bug obviously makes playing impossible and the only solution for now is to change the resolution before starting the game which is not really convenient. As I've mentioned in the beginning the same bug applies to Portal prelude which at first opened in 1280x960 for some reason. Of course with portal the situation is much better becuse you can actually change the game's resolution, not so much with HoM&M. I've attached and example created in Delphi called Project1. It has Form1 window with action button which opens a modal dialog called Form2. The main idea is when opened Form2 to be always on top and to be impossible to hide it behind Form1. However once that Form2 is opened if I minimize it, I have Form1 stealing modal Form2's focus and Form1's window is blocked and I have no other possibility but to kill the running program. If I have the program running and I open the modal dialog called Form2 if I click back on Form1 window and Form2 goes behind it I am left again with a blocked Form1 window, but could still close the modal Form2 with Alt+F4. But upon pressing any button on the keyboard alone, with the only exception of the F* keys and the NumLock, the application freezes until focus is changed to another window and returned to the application window. After returning focus to the application window Sculptris continues to work as if no keyboard shortcut was pressed. The only exception to this are the square brackets and the numpad Del keys, which have the effect of increasing/decreasing the brush size. They too do freeze the app, but the brush is larger/smaller after returning to the app. No other keyboard shortcuts (most notably ctrl-z - undo) are not working. This makes the application unusable for serious work, because many things are controlled only via keyboard and are not present in the UI. Not being a guru, I reverted to the last version (1.5.12) which, even if the text isn't anti-aliased after zooming it over a certain amount (I use these customized settings: http://www.sharpfonts.co.cc/ , sharp fonts), it allows for smooth panning. I can't screenshot the sluggishness, but it can be easily verified by lacing a fair amount of devices, creating a schematic which, after pressing space (zoom to fit), will make the fonts barely readable. Then use the mouse-wheel to scroll and the pan. - II - Another problem is since I can't remember when, but it's not something that really gets in the way, it can be overcome, but now that I'm here I may as well mention them: 1. Placing a component on the schematic and Ctrl-right-clicking on it; 2. Adding a SPICE directive ('S' key) or a text ('T' key) 3. Ctrl-right-clicking on a component's name All will make use of some dialog windows which allow text entries: 1 has table-like entries, 2 has a multi-line entry and 3 uses a one-line entry. The problem arises when launching LTspice with the simple "wine LTspice.exe" command (terminal, launcher, etc), which makes use of LTspice's built-in detection of a WINE environment. 1. In the dialog window that opens, a line that takes more than the default window (entry) width will be cropped. Nothing unusual, but the line of text normally follows the last typed characters, to be able to see what you're currently doing; instead, the line of characters seems anchored to the first one leaving you typing blindly ahead. (screenshot1.png) 2. Typing a full line and beyond will make things just like above. You can Ctrl-enter for a new line, but it's the same, all the way down. However, here you will get to see the "current typing" line. (screenshot2.png) There's a nastier glitch if you have a mile long line among the others, because when right-clicking on it to edit it, the I-beam cursor will not move it's position, furthermore delete or backspace are invisible; this can be avoided by breaking it into multiple lines with ctrl-enter and adding "+ " at the beginning of the new line, for SPICE directives. (screenshot3.png, screeshot4.png) 3. This only has problems with resizing (see below). Trying to resize the dialog windows will let you do so, but the internal area won't (I can only imagine what alien description will this seem to you) (screenshot5.png, screenshot6.png). Therefore for #1 you won't know what happens if (e.g.) you have a rather long formula to be implemented, for #2, if there are lots of parameters to be defined, you're left scrolling like crazy, not being able to see more than 4 lines and cropped, too, while for #3, well, I suppose that won't matter as much if #1 gets done, because #1 displays all possible lines (where there's the case). Now, using "wine LTspice.exe -nowine" (LTspice specific switch) will get around these problems -- and it's the current way of launching for me -- in that it will allow proper resizing of dialog windows, but not the cropping of the longer test line, however... - III - ...the price to pay will be that using F8 to move a component will leave crumble-like traces behind (F5, copy, F7, cut, the same) (screenshot7.png). Minor glitch, though. They are probably related so I'll describe them all here. One program which shows these problems can be downloaded from http://cd.textfiles.com/infomagic/imagic4pak5/disk3/Miscellaneous-Utilities… Run ebot_einstall.exe then click Next to show the license agreement. The agreement is in a text field/box with a scrollbar to the right. First issue: The view is initially positioned at the bottom; it should be at the top. (The flashing cursor/caret at the end of the text is also present on Windows. It seems Wine sets the initial view position so the caret is shown, whereas Windows does not?) Second issue: Move the mouse pointer outside the window and click to de-activate it. Move the pointer back over the ebot_einstall window (not over the text box) and click to activate it. Notice how all the text is now highlighted; it shouldn't be. Third issue: Run ebot_einstall.exe and click Next. (At this point, the contents of the text field are not highlighted.) Click and drag the scrollbar knob upwards. Notice how the text field immediately moves to show the top of the document, and the view position remains there as you move the knob up and down. If you release the mouse button when the knob is half-way down the scrollbar, it jumps back to the top. Fourth issue: After doing the test in the third issue above, move the mouse pointer so it's about 3/4 of the way down the scrollbar. Click the mouse button repeatedly. Notice that the text in the box pages down each time, but when the scrollbar knob is under the mouse pointer, clicking again causes it to jump back to the top. (On Windows the knob does not move in that case.) Thus clicking over and over causes the view to cycle down a page then back to the top again and again. Fifth issue: On Windows, when you page the view up or down by clicking in the scrollbar above or below the knob, the view moves by one line less than a page. For example when paging down, the view moves so the previously-lowest visible line becomes the uppermost visible line. On Wine, the view moves by a whole page each time. Sixth issue: On Windows, pressing the Page Up or Page Down key causes the view to move by a page (less one line as mentioned above). In Wine however, pressing those keys causes the caret to move. Press PgUp/PgDown until you're roughly in the middle of the document. Then press PgUp/PgDown alternately. The PC I am using is a Celeron 766 Mhz with Intel Graphics and Linux Fedora 14. Kernel is a 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686. When I launch the SETUP.EXE from the command line I get an unrecoverable error. I understand that the game is very old so I chose "Windows 95" as a configuration. I have attached my console output below. The game's AppDB entry can be found here. Was is most evident is that the last character(s) is(are) not canceled. I attach a vertical concatenation of 3 screenshots: the first is the state before hitting backspace: I typed "abcdefghijkl" and added an inline image, the second is after hitting backspace (I cancel the "g"); notice how the last "kl" are not correctly canceled and the image is not moved to the left and the third is how it should have looked. No error message is displayed while hitting backspace (it complains about IME all the time but I think it's no big deal). I have seen this problem at least in versions 1.0.1 (under Debian testing, Ubuntu hardy and intrepid, both 32 and 64 bits) and 1.0.13 (Debian testing 64 bits). The situation is even worse under Ubuntu intrepid (32 bits OS, Wine v1.0.1) as text disappears as soon as it is typed (Esc redisplays it briefly). I can live with the image (visible at the end of the line) not correctly positioned after backspace (it seldom occurs), but the last character not canceled is a real (visual) pain. I can test anything you wish and I understand programming/debugging. Thank you for any help. Keybord will not work with wine winver XP and 2003, every other works), also renderer must be set to "opengl". Really, it works for first few levels (1-6 levels), but in the middle of "The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire" (7 level and upper levels periodicaly) it start to show "head of Pirate":) (screenshot attached) and because of that pirate no more playing is possibile. This is tried with old original CD and also with backup CD. Open up Wine's wordpad wine wordpad 2. Minimize the window 3. Restore the window Afterwards the window will have focus but the caret will not be shown. I tested this on KDE 3.5.9 and Gnome 2.22.2 with the same bug occurring on both. I tested wordpad in Windows XP SP3, and there was no issue there. I tested with WINEDLLOVERRIDES="riched20=n" and the bug occurred. >From this I believe that it isn't a wordpad, or richedit issue. I added some MESSAGE statements to find the sequence of events that cause the cursor not to be shown, and this is what I found. 1. After the window is minimized WM_KILLFOCUS is sent to the richedit control as expected. 2.
