Unsure how to report "traces" etc. I'm running Linux Mint 9 on an HP 530
laptop. I downloaded AMAYA earlier this week and the installation into WINE
(latest version) reported a missing file (can't remember which one). I
searched for it and installed this "missing" file - and it still does not work.
When trying to run the program it generates a "must close" window.
The same EXE installed perfectly on my Win XP (sp3) and Win 7 machines.
Just for the record, the Linux version of AMAYA failed to install in Mint 9
which prompted the use of WINE.
ALSO - whilst most apps run well under WINE, Paintshop Pro 7 did, but now does
not, run under WINE. Not sure why or if this is relevant.

is a simple script that downloads all of the prerequisites
for building inkscape on windows, grabs the source from svn,
and builds it. Read the comments at the top to see how
to run it in cygwin (and in cygwin on wine).
This script runs to completion on Windows, but on Wine, it failed for me
with
Make error line 291: executeProgram: could not create pipe

Oddly, rerunning the script in the same wineconsole window
failed quickly with various symptoms, including
"ld.exe: crt2.o: No such file: Too many open files"
Even more oddly, problem persisted even in a new wineconsole window;
bash just wasn't happy.

After that, starting a new wineconsole let me run cygwin.bat

So it appears wine(server) has an fd leak related to pipes?

icon itself is clicked on (to see the list of pieces) a serious error occurs

Screenshot of the game as it appeares in 8bpp "StaticColor" mode
In a real Windows installation (either on the real hardware or within vmware),
MS Pinball Arcade looks normal, but when running under Wine/Linux in an Xorg
8bpp StaticColor visual, it looks like some color depth is being lost, almost
like 7 bits per pixel. This affects all parts of the game - intro screens, the
menu, ,loading screens, and game tables.
If you switch to a StaticGray visual, you get what looks like a full 256-greys
screen. Brightness transitions are smoother (e.g. finer steps and banding)
than their StaticColor counterparts.
In the screenshots, it is probably easiest to see the difference between the
two visuals along the edges of the table and in the ball launch trough on the
right.
Expected Results:
The game should look exactly like it does in Windows.
Affected Versions:
All recent versions up through 1.0 rc1. I can't be sure when this started,
I've only been using Wine since around 0.9.31.

I looked at "Bug 29092 - Myst Masterpiece crashes on game entry", but mine
appears to be different.
The Myst Masterpiece Edition setup seems to work fine, and afterwards when
attempting to run the game for the first time it crashes with an error message
that reads: "The program Myst.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvienience."
This is on Ubuntu 10.04 32bit with wine 1.2.2.
I have attached what i hope is the backtrace info that you need.
The game is not able to even start, and the debug program never seems to start
automatically either.

After a photo is loaded and an action, what ever, for example filter. The photo
disappears from the desktop. Photoshop is still running. It's possible to get
the photo back if "Window -> Tile -> Photo to Edit", and the photo is back on
screen. If filter menu is activated again, the photo disappears. It's like an
endless loop, and after some "get photo back" it's not possible to get the

Clean wine 1.2-rc7 prefix. The game installs and runs fine. I had to use nocd

fine, until I reached the level Infiltration. In that level the game started
exhibiting deadlocks, at random positions of the player, sometimes sooner,
sometimes further in the level. From console output it looks like it's audio
related, because of the message:
Note: Illegal Audio-MPEG-Header 0x3cbe5446 at offset 16790.
After three of these I get:

Debugger information
In a late stage of the game you can run around in "UpperWard" (
http://www.the-spoiler.com/RPG/Interplay/planescape.3/stevepst.html
walkthrough). If I want to enter the area "UnderSigil" the game saves
automatically and loads the new area and then crashes.
Since I got some sound related errors in the shell, I killed pulseaudio. Still
it crashes. Deactivating Alsa (which means every sound) in the wine
configuration didnt change the situation.
I'm running Kubuntu Karmic with radeon driver ( http://wiki.x.org/wiki/radeon )
How did I get P:T to work: manually set my xorg to color depth 16bit (in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf). Setting fullscreen to '0' in Torment.ini.
How did I get the debug information (attachment): Starting P:T, loading the
auto save game before the crash (picture 1), running again to UnderSigil,
pressing OK on the crash popup (picture 2).
A friend of a mine also had the crash when trying to access a certain area. I'm
pretty sure its the same error. I'll have to ask him. He uses 32bit.
Maybe it's a winmm error.

When a computation that results in dividing by zero is performed wine and the
application crashes. It does something to X as well because my screen goes
black. A mouse click outside the previous location of the window (before
crashing) brings back X but wine and Mathcad are gone.
Fixed it by adding Native msvcp60.dll msvcrt.dll. I think the Wine builtins
must not handle divide by zero correctly.
I also had to add MSVCIRT.dll but this did not figure into the divide by zero.
In the days before 1.0 Wine, I believe this problem with zero results did not
happen.
For now the fix is to add the Native DLLs and override.

I have just installed Wine 1.2.2 using the software manager in Linux Mint. The
install went flawlessly. I configured wine.
I installed EverQuest 1 from a set of CD's. The install went smoothly. I
logged in and started the update process. It was a 2 hour download to update
from the installation CD's. It went smoothly. I modified the eqclient.ini to
add TextureCache=FALSE so the mouse would work. I am able to get to the Server
Select screen. After I select the server, the game crashes.
I thought it might be DirectX - I am new to Linux and Wine, so I found some
information on how to install DirectX in Wine and did so. I could not ever get
the dxdiag.exe to run. NO error messages, it just doesn't open the window. AND
it didn't fix the problem. EQ still crashes after Server is Selected.
I've read the bugs, and it appears that this has occurred before, but there
doesn't appear to be any fix for it. But it appears that someone got EQ
running in Wine somehow since then. I turned Sound off. EQ still crashes.

This error is received on the terminal when the game would normally have

Tracing winsock results in this error when it tries to perform DNS requests:

Looking at the MSDN article of the WSACancelAsyncRequest function would
indicate that it's related to DNS lookups, and if these are required to happen,
but aren't, it would make sense that it's related to the failure I'm
experiencing.

Hello good day !
I installed successfully thief3-deadly shadows under wine 1.5.1 with
Debian-sid.
All files of thief3 are accepted by wine so far.
But thief3 refuses to play, because my sound-card is newer then the
sound-drivers of thief3. thief3 refuses to play despite of the proper
configured given sound-card and despite of update of pulse-audio(10. April
2012).
There must be a configuration-file of thief3 for sound or of wine, where
I can adjust the sound to normal standard, (like vesa for graphics). I dont
need a special sound-configuration for a special sound-card (am deaf anyway).
I heard of "OSS"-option, but this option CANNOT be selected with:
wine winecfg
Where do I set the "OSS"-option for sound ?
thank you for hints.

Go into Battle for Naboo and choose a sphere (a game). There will be a
monologue and a circular picture of a stylised scene from the level you have
selected.
This circular picture is bordered with a blue frame. It isn't a smooth blue
like in Windows. It has funny nested curved lines as it tries to make the same
smoothness as happens in Windows.
I'll be posting a video to show exactly what I mean.
This might be related to the pause menu border being flickery.
This is my graphics card:
An ATI Redwood [Radeon HD 5670] using the fglrx proprietary driver.
modinfo said my ATI driver's srcversion is EEC3D3F06B0B31BC528C8D9.
I'm putting 1.3.16 as the version, though I have never seen this work in any
version of Wine (up to 1.4 rc 2). I think this is an "original" bug, as opposed
to a bug introduced by a patch.

In Artweaver 1.07 the Properties tool window can be undocked from it's default
position (directly below the application menus), but when the window is dragged
back to that position, it fails to re-dock. As a workaround, this Properties
window can be re-docked via menu Window->Arrange Palettes->Default, but this is
not ideal since it also defaults all other floating tool windows. Note: In
native MS Windows re-docking occurs after LMB release, and this behavior varies
slightly in WinXP versus Vista, the latter requiring that the dragged window
overlap the application menus slightly in order to dock.

Doesn't crash without it, and you only get one fixme:
fixme:msvcrt:_setmaxstdio stub: setting new maximum for number of
simultaneously open files not implemented, returning 2048
but without it, you can never get in game. To reproduce:
install brink.
Workaround bug 27141.
Apply patch for bug 20395, so you can use the mouse.
Run winecfg, choose an audio driver (I got a crash otherwise).
Start the game, I choose 'Escape the ark' (but I don't think it matters),
create a default character, and mash the enter to start a game. Eventuall
you'll get a loading screen, saying to press any key.
Now, with builtin msvcr90, you'll get a black screen with two buttons, one to
load a menu, one to skip the intro. The game will hang at this point.
With native, an intro video plays.
I'll attach a +msvcrt trace.

I have the Debian package for Ubuntu 9.10 of wine-1.1.36 installed. I also
compiled version 1.1.36 in the git source tree.
When I run a game via "WINEDEBUG=/home/korn/wineprefixes/comanche_3 wine
Wc3.exe" (using the executable from the Debian package) the game recognizes the
mounted ISO.
But when I run the game via the wine build from the source tree
"WINEDEBUG=/home/korn/wineprefixes/comanche_3 ~/wineprefixes/wine/wine/wine
Wc3.exe" the game complains about the missing CD.
The game CD is mounted in /media/cdrom0 and the ISO file is also linked:

When I try to launch any game from Steam I can't use keyboard in those games.
Tested with Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike Source, Team Fortress 2, Left 4
Dead, GTA: Vice City and Psychonauts. However, no problem with Abe's Oddyssee.
I have no problems with games without Steam. Eg. Warcraft 3, Guild Wars or C&C
Tiberian Sun.
The problem appears only when using virtual desktop and it's present since Wine
1.1.37. It also happens in current 1.1.39.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64bit and Wine from PPA.

I'm not quite sure where, but if the software renderer is instructed to use
more than 1 thread, the emulator crashes whenever the GS plugin is being
initialised.
The crashing message in question is as follows
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address (nil)
(thread 0030), starting debugger...
No further information is dumped.
It works correctly under Windows, but only under wine when a single thread is
used.
As such I suspect it may be an issue with how threads are handled in wine - but
that is simply an uneducated guess.
The sourcecode for the application can be found on googlecode.
If I can help debug it in some way, let me know.

I've been unable to install Steam for some time, across multiple versions of
Wine dating back maybe six months. Current version is 1.4. I run the
installer, downloaded from the Steam site, as follows:
$ wine msiexec /i SteamInstall.msi
It starts the installer and displays the first dialog, with Next and Cancel
buttons. When I click Next, it crashes with the attached backtrace.
In trying again to check a few things for this bug report, I noticed it says:

So possibly the problem is with leftovers from a previous installation attempt.
I don't know how to clear them out, though.

The kernel32:debugger test times out on my Windows 7 VM because Windows 7
brings up a dialog telling me that (a child of) kernel32_crosstest.exe crashed
and asking whether to stop it or search for a fix online. Each of them causes
a delay in the execution and together they translate into a timeout when run by
WineTest.
These are caused the SetErrorMode(0) call in doCrash().
If I change it to SetErrorMode(SEM_NOGPFAULTERRORBOX) then I no longer get the
dialog and the test does not time out. Instead it has a bunch of failures :-(

In Ubuntu 8.04, AMD64 version,
Team Fortress 2 is unstable in Wine 1.1.4 (reverting to 1.1.3 fixes this
issue).
Crashes are semi-random, but include:
Semi-regular crashes on resolution change or other events restarting the render
backend.
Semi-regular crashes on Alt-Tab to and then from desktop - this also seems to
crash X with a segfault
Xorg[6069]: segfault at 8 rip 7feceb912cab rsp 7ffff837cdb0 error 4
If neither of those happens, invariably TF2 crashes (after around 15 minutes of
play) with some access violation in opengl libraries, freezing the screen and
requiring the user to switch to a virtual terminal and use wineserver -k to
kill the process and regain use of their X session.
I'll get some logs and attach them in a bit.

This happened with wine1.2-rc3
I tried to back up my game files, to move them to another computer.
I selected the game, then backup local game files, choose ~/Desktop as folder,
and i pressed the "Make a new folder button"
the dialog came up alright, but the box didn't want to accept any keystroke
(neither number or letter).
After that, I manually made a new folder from the gnome desktop, and I was able
to choose the folder. In the next step i could type size (number) in MB my game
files i wanted to split too.

My connection speed is 25/25Mbps. The most I can transfer in a second is around
3.2MB when uploading or downloading. Even so, Steam is reporting a (very)
inaccurate transfer rate of around 6.9MB/s. This is an incredibly trivial,
unimportant bug in this case, but it may affect applications that monitor
connection speed. Even so, I think it may be worth reporting this, as it's
probably a simple fix, and it is, in fact, a bug.

Console log for Shadow Vault
Shadow Vault freezes during the initial log screen. Under Windows, this load
screen would be followed by the intro video. Occasionally, the program will
skip the intro video and display the main menu (slightly corrupted and without
a mouse cursor), but the game then hangs when you try to start a new game (at
the point the new game intro video would play). I've attached a console log,
but the game reacts differently when run with alternate WINEDEBUG settings.
+relay causes a crash instead of a freeze and +all allows the game to run
normally, but too slow to play.
This testing was done compiled from the git version as of commit

Reinstalled CSS several times, used DirectX 9,8 and OpenGL. Nothing changes. I
installed the patch "Hack to fix css"

There are hardly no chrashes or any other issues (except for some graphical
artefacts).
CSS Console doesn't give any usefull or interesting output, neither does wine.

Attached is a regression test on the program Future Tax (www.futuretax.ca).
The program works under wine 1.0.1, but produces and "unsupported operation"
error under wine 1.2.
The website has a free download that can be used to test for the fault. The
problem has been there for at least a couple of years, but I suspect no one has
made any attempt to trace it until now. This program is used every year, so it
would be nice to get it going under current versions of wine.
Good luck. If I can be of further help please ask.

I downloaded Mafia 2 demo on Steam and tried it. It crashes after it's logo
screen. The crash is inside wined3d after it tries to do EnumResources.
As ZeXx86 mentioned in Mafia 2's appdb page, if you comment out "ret =
pCallback((IWineD3DResource *) resource, pData);" line in dlls/wined3d/device.c
file, it starts and allows us to see menu and some videos.
If once game started and save & config files created, the game won't crash
anymore, even if we uncomment that previously mentioned line.
If you start new game it crashes again. (It looks like clean exit, but it
manages the crash silently)
Look at +d3d,+seh log.
Demo is freely available from Steam.

I am running Arch Linux (dual-booted with Leopard on a Macbook

After first encountering the crashing behavior, I removed ~/.wine and
reinstalled everything pertaining to wine. I then installed Steam,
following the instructions on the AppDB page for Steam. I then installed
Half-Life 2 using Steam. When I click on the Launch button, Wine
crashes.
The attached file "log" is a copy of the terminal output when I start
Wine with the command
wine "C:\Program

prompt) appear once I click on the Launch button. The previous lines up
to and including "fake device notification handle" appeared as Steam was
loading.
The attached file "report_file" was created using the command
WINEDEBUG=+relay wine "C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" 2>&1 |
tee relay.out;tail -n 100 relay.out > report_file
.

games and play as long as no movement with keyboard is made.
CS:S before the engine update worked fine, but now it's running on something

I can't grab a log of the crash, and the terminal doesn't report anything.

I downloaded the demo of UK Truck Simulator game from

It puts a link on the desktop that starts
<install_dir>/bin/win_x86/uktrucks.exe, the game config utility and launcher.
When I press "Start" in the launcher, it shows a blank window and nothing else
happens.
The demo is actually the full game, limited to 1 hour of play. Apparently, it
tries to connect to the internet and show a web page to let the user an option
to buy a full game.
The full digital version has similar problem. It requires activation over the
internet and it seems that's what it tries to do when I try to run the game.
