(I used the high graphics version, though it's quite likely the regular version
has the same problem).
Download, install, wait hours for it to finish (14 GB). Run, let it patch, then
you'll get a login prompt. The text of the button to login is corrupted. Native
gdiplus fixes it.
When comparing the screenshots, I also noticed that the text at the top of the
window 'Community', 'Account', 'Support' are nearly solid white with builtin,
but have a thicker black border with native gdiplus. Looks like a similar
issue..
+gdiplus trace attached.

The problem doesn't occur in Wine 1.7.11. Could it be a regression? I have
problems doing regression tests on Mac OS X, can a more advanced user look at
this, please?
On Ubuntu everything works fine. A demo is available. Attaching logs.

If I'm opening winecfg and going to the Drives register winecfg has some
problems if there is for example a burning process on a drive which is listed
there. In this case I don't get a list of drives and winecfg is hanging until
the related drive gets unlocked.
Maybe the drive list could be something like a sandbox so if winecfg can't
access a drive it is still possible to go through the menu and make some
actions/close winecfg.

The summary says it all ;)
It is possible to install audible.com's AudibleManager using their
ActiveSetupN.exe installer, but it crashes immediately after launching the
actual Manager.exe. It is also not possible to directly fire up the Audible
Manager after installation, it also crashes immediately.
Manager.exe run fine about half a year ago, though.

DOW2.EXE, Wine 1.7.12, +loaddll,+crypt
I'm trying to get Dawn of War 2 working. There appear to be two obvious issues
preventing it running. The first is worked around by using native wintrust and
msasn1 DLLs, and restoring backups of content.cat before every program launch
(which is Bug 35452). The second issue (exclusive to Dawn of War 2) is what I'm
reporting in this ticket.
The first bug applies to both Dawn of War 2 and Dawn of War 2: Retribution, but
as stated has a work-around. However attempting the same work-around on plain
Dawn of War 2 causes us to run into the second problem:
trace:crypt:CertCreateContext (0x3, 0x10001, 0xce10000, 5861, 0x00000005,

More history attached, in case you need it.
Nothing further is printed to the console, but the following command is still
running:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Dawn of War 2\dow2.exe -logs
It's consuming 100% CPU, and will do so forever until it is manually killed.
I have not been successful in any attempt at a work-around for this bug to
date.

Console Output when starting the installed and registered program
I am a professional video editor for one of the large studios around.
Lately switching to Linux have 'forced' me to use the awesome WINE in order to
install Sony Vegas Pro 9. Unfortunately WINE does absolutely not care about the
Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
Ths, I only can say that Sony Vegas Pro 9 install absolutely without any
errors, and even registration works fine. Right after the start of the program
the loading window shows up and is replaced immediately with an error
notification: "Sony Vegas has encountered an Error: 'WIA-Manager could not be
initialized'".
I figured to talk to the people on IRC and post an error log, but even they say
that WINE does not care the slightest about the Windows Image Acquisition. I am
actually looking forward to see WIA supported as fast as possible.
I´ve been talking directly to Sony developers in their forum (complete Thread
in German). If you are interested seing the output feel free to visit:
http://www.vegasforum.de/sony-vegas-pro-t1878.html
THANK YOU for the work you do every day to improve WINE. It is much
appreciated.

The installer for Alibre Design (AlibreInstall_V10SP1.exe free download from

The installer starts and extracts files from CAB-files, and then offers to
install "a supported version of Microsoft Virtual Machine". This installation
fails, and the installer displays a popup suggesting to contact Alibre support.
The supported version of MSVM is available for download at the alibre.com
website, but running this installer before running the alibre installer does
not change anything.

Summary: Adobe Illustrator CS installer looks for Color directory
in wrong place?
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: Other

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10002#c8
is a report from Anastasius about Illustrator CS's
installer getting confused about where the Color
directory lives. Here's what he said, with long traces
removed:
--- snip ---
installer and the app/support tools don't get well with
color profiles in mscms storage (the 'private' locations will work).
With the current implementation of mscms api, the profiles are stored in
"windows/system32/spool/drivers/color".
This works as long as the mscms API is used to retrieve the directory where the
profiles are stored.
Unfortunately the CS installer stores the profiles *NOT* in
"windows/system32/spool/drivers/color" but in the old 9X
"windows/system32/Color/" location (creates the "Color" directory if not
present).
...
Illustrator and other support tools later retrieve the profiles location by
using GetColorDirectoryA().
...
Nothing is found due to installer putting them in "old" directory and C++
exception is thrown.
Not catastrophic for Illustrator because it searches additional 'private'
profile locations but it adds additional noise.
Other tools like the adobe gamma loader (from "C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe") won't even work due to that
problem.
To solve the profiles problem - supporting the "old" and "new" profile storage
I suggest to use a symbolic link.
E.g. wine should create a "windows/system32/Color/" symlink to
"windows/system32/spool/drivers/color".
That way older and new apps can access the profiles.
With fresh ~./wine, precreation of "color" profile directory symlink and
installation, the app and tools find the profiles:
--- snip ---
So, why is the installer doing this?
Should we work around it with the symlink suggested by Anastasius?

"I'm running a test with Wine 0.9.51 on SuSe 9.1 and Photoshop CS (1) and
everything works perfectly (even working with big files of 1 GB and
launching Image Ready) BUT:
How do I use a CUSTOM Monitor Profile with Photoshop and Wine ?
There seems to be no way to assign a monitor profile to the Wine system
(as in Windows "control panel"), Photoshop just uses "sRGB ... 2.1" (a
substitute for the missing monitor profile of the OS, Wine).
I tried to look for a trick to assign another monitor profile to
Photoshop, but Photoshop will only take a profile of the OS.
That's a pity, because generating an accurate monitor profile under
Linux (with an Eye-One spectrometer and Argyllcms) would be possible.
Am I wrong - is there a workaround for assigning the monitor profile to
Photoshop?"
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms797852.aspx
describes monitor profiles, and says they're enabled by
calling a gdi32 function like SetICMMode(). Wine's
implementation of that function is currently a no-op.
Also, it looks like Photoshop installs a control panel, Adobe Gamma.cpl,
see http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=321608
It's possible he's looking for that, and not finding it because
we don't have any sort of a GUI to locate control panel applets yet.

Hello,

If I'm right, it is a .net launcher; so I installed dotnet 2 and 3,5 with
winetricks but without success, the launcher still crash.
Even If I could start the game without launcher, only the launcher could permit
you to configure graphics, keyboard and gamepad options. There is no option
menu in the game.
I joined you the crash log.

wineserver and
PhotoLine.exe appear shortly in the listing of running processes but then
disdappear again.
Other WIN programs (e.g. LTSpice) are running smoothly under WINE!
During installation of PhotoLine32 there is no error shown.
I reinstalled WINE 1.4.1, I installed the latest 1.5 version -> same effect.
I reinstalled Photoline32, -> same effect
I had the same PhotoLine32 under WINE 1.4.1. and same Ubuntu running smoothly
on another PC.
Regards
Michael

Myst 1.0, on a fresh Wine 1.0-rc2 install. Game starts fine but if you try and
flip the first switch you see game locks and continues playing background
sound. Tried with all sound setting on ALSA. No lock-up if sound disabled all

with most objects it locks. From start you can open doors, etc, but most
switches lock it up.

SafeDisc 1.x fails to work on Wine because of this bug.
Here is what happens:
1. SD creates a new process for the game with CREATE_SUSPENDED flag.
2. Injects some code into new process to be executed first
3. Resumes the new process.
4. Injected code is being executed
5. Wine does import fixups and fails because they are already fixedup (by an
injected code).
What should happen is Wine should not let injected code to run until final
stages of the process setup are finished. In this case it is import fixups.

A user submitted garbage for this into appdb so i gave it a try too:
Needs .Net 2.0 (winetricks) but then crashes into dbghelp. I'll attach the
crash
Note: with native dbghelp it gets futher, then crashes because of msxml-bug.
Using winetricks msxml3, it then ran into a segmentation fault. But when i ran
with +relay channel to get some debug info, the application started just fine.
So i guess is impossible to debug further atm :(

STIXIntegralsSm-Regular
STIXIntegralsUpD-Regular
STIXIntegralsUp-Regular
STIXIntegralsUpSm-Regular
STIXNonUnicode-Regular
STIXSizeFiveSym-Regular
STIXSizeFourSym-Regular
STIXSizeOneSym-Regular
STIXSizeThreeSym-Regular
STIXSizeTwoSym-Regular
STIXVariants-Regular
Without them we can't test DEVICE_FONTTYPE on our testbot.
They are included in the following debian package:
$ sudo apt-get install fonts-stix
Another DEVICE_FONTTYPE font: TrajanPro-Bold
I'm not sure whether it is a free font.
Also it will be great if we can install the following fonts into some of our
test machines:
ttf-wqy-microhei ttf-wqy-zenhei fonts-unfonts-core fonts-umeplus
They are free CJK fonts frequently used in Linux, we use them to replace
Windows CJK fonts in Wine (SimSun, MingLiu, MS Gothic, MS Mincho, Batang,
Dotum, etc)

Summary: Supreme Commander needs additional DLLs (registered)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.58.
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: liquitsnake(a)gmx.net
In order to get sound in this game, sample rate must be set to 48000 and a few
DLLs are needed. These are:
x3daudio1_0.dll
x3daudio1_1.dll
in order to get the game to start in first place
xactengine2_0.dll
xactengine2_1.dll
xactengine2_2.dll
xactengine2_3.dll
xactengine2_4.dll
xactengine2_5.dll
xactengine2_6.dll
these must be registered using regsvr32 to get sound.
This is not the normal behaviour on Windoze (as long as you have newer DirectX
installed) so this should be fixed in Wine.
Also, the Forged Alliance addon for Supreme Commander needs
X3DAudio1_2.dll
In order to start.
However registering the additional xactengine* which came out between the
release of SupCom and its Addon will, in this case, NOT enable sound in the
addon.

Installation of Scuffham S-Gear 2 (guitar modelling software) with wine goes
normally, but the program crashes when trying to start it.
Motherboard is Asus Z87-A, RAM 8g. OS is Ubuntu Studio 14.04 with low-latency
kernel. For using Windows VST plug-ins I have installed from KXStudio
repository wineasio 0.90+git20110613-2k, which runs other Windows plug-ins
without issues. I have tried also the wineasio version 0.7.5 with the same
result. I have tried with wine setups Windows XP and Windows 7. Same version of
S-Gear runs smoothly in Windows 7.
Log as attachment.
Demo version of S-Gear 2.42 download:

Recently tested Heavy Gear II and found that most of keys do not work ingame
(although you can redefine them in the options menu), A to Z keys do not work,
also do not numbers and function keys, but surpisingly, ctrl, tab arrow keys,
keypad keys and pg up, pg down, home, end works, thing that makes the game
almost playable.
I belive that the game requires dx6.1, but aside of this weird bug and setting
wine as win98, the game is playable.

I'm working on a mini test application once the original app depends on servers

Summary: expr_alloc_uconstant() is not used
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.25
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Keywords: source, winelib
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winedbg
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: fgouget(a)codeweavers.com
programs/winedbg/expr.c defines both an expr_alloc_sconstant() and an
expr_alloc_uconstant() function. However:
* expr_alloc_uconstant() is not used anywhere. So at first sight it should be
removed.
* But expr_alloc_sconstant() is used to allocate tNUM constant which, as far
as I can see, are unsigned constants.
* expr_alloc_sconstant() is used nowhere else.
So something is wrong there.
This is also related to EXPR_TYPE_U_CONST vs. EXPR_TYPE_S_CONST.
Possible fixes:
* Modify the lexer to only return unsigned constants (since that's all it can
match), and then get rid of expr_alloc_sconstant() and EXPR_TYPE_S_CONST.
* Modify the lexer to return both signed and unsigned constants as
appropriate.
In either case it will likely require modifications in the expression
computation package as it only knows how to deal with signed integers.

This crash seems related to text rendering, but isn't quite deterministic. One
easy way of reproducing here is starting the game, then immediately clicking on
the "Survival" menu item (you may have to squint a little, the text is not
rendered well). Alternately, it happens at semi-random times during gameplay.
I'm unable to find a working demo at present... downloads seem gone or
corrupted.
Looks superficially similar to 12307 - crash on same line. Can't test with that
old a wine version, the game doesn't run at all.

Using WoW Model Viewer v0.7.0.1 r482, the program refuses to start without

Once vcrun2008 is installed, it starts fine, but there's a minor annoyance in
that the main pane has garbled image from whatever was behind that part of the

Reporting because it may be simple to fix, I don't personally know.

four times (first to some small resolution, then back to normal, then again to

There are some issues with scrollbars. I initially noticed these issues with
IDA Pro Free, but other programs which use the same type of scrollbar are
affected, including Windows Notepad.exe.
Try the following in Windows.
Run Notepad and load a long text document. The window shows a small proportion
of the document with a scrollbar at the right-hand side.
Move the mouse pointer over the scrollbar below the "thumb". Click the left
button. Notice how the region below the thumb highlights in black briefly.
Hold down the left button. The region below the thumb is highlighted in black,
and the document pages down repeatedly while the left button is pressed.
Move the mouse pointer while holding the left button down (but keeping the
pointer within the lower scrollbar region, e.g. move it up and down slightly).
The mouse movement doesn't affect the paging-down.
Trying the same under Wine...
Clicking below the thumb, the region is not highlighted in black (or if it is,
it's so brief as to be invisible).
Holding the left button down with the mouse pointer below the scrollbar thumb
does cause the document to repeatedly page down. However, the lower scrollbar
region is not highlighted in black. It seems Wine does draw it in black, but
immediately overwrites it -- I see brief flickers of black rectangles.
If while holding the left button you move the mouse pointer, the document stops
paging down. While you are moving the mouse, the lower scrollbar region is
shown in black.

Introduction:
I have read bugs 7698, 12327 and 15162 with all comments and I'm sure this is
not the same issue. Please let me know if there is more information I can
provide.
Short Description:
After a few minutes of playing, process hl2.exe starts using 100% of a CPU and
the game freezes with no sound stuttering. if I have the mouse pointer (Like
when I'm selecting a character) I can move the mouse but nothing responds. If a
SIGTERM(15) is sent to hl2.exe the game finished and the X are successfully
restored. That allow me to repeat this issue over and over again trying to find
a pattern for deducing the root of the problem.
Testbeds:
For a best analysis of this issue, I have configured the following testbed
based on 2 machines, one with the game and another one just connected to the
same LAN.
1) Machine and software where the game is running:
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.40GHz
Memory: 4GB Ram
OS: GNU/Linux
Distribution: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Kernel: 2.6.32-24-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 19 01:38:40 UTC 2010
x86_64
$ lspci | grep VGA

2600 Series]
$ fglrxinfo
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro
OpenGL version string: 3.2.9756 Compatibility Profile Context
$ wine --version

Testbed additional information:
Wine has no configuration but default.
Game parameters: -heapsize 1024000 -dxlevel 81 -width 1680 -height 1050
Compiz were disabled.
2) A second machine where I start a ssh session in order to monitoring process
when the game freezes.
Testing performed:
Testing steps:
1) I started steam, then I went to game library and I selected TF2. I have
pressed "Play" button and wait.
The game was successful loaded, I find a "Two Forts" available game and I
Joined in.
After 8 minutes and 32 seconds playing, when I was getting back to the starting
point room (to be cured at the medicine kit), exactly when the door were
opening the game got freeze. There was no sound stutter, just like a picture
the game got freeze.
I got connected from the second machine (via ssh) and I saw hl2.exe process
using the 100% of one CPU. Just by sending a SIGTERM to hl2.exe process it
finished. That brings me down to Steam menu again.
2) I have pressed "Play" again.
I was looking for a "Two Forts" available game for 30 seconds approximately.
The game was loaded successful, and when I was looking for a character the game
got freeze again. Just when I pointed the Engineer. I was able to move the
mouse but nothing responses.
>From the second machine terminal I saw the same: hl2.exe process using the 100%
of one CPU. Just by sending a SIGTERM to hl2.exe process it finished. That
brings me down to Steam menu again.
3) I have pressed "Play" again.
I was looking for a "Two Forts" available game for several minutes, I got
dropped due to slot reservation 3 times so I have desired to play at Egipt. I
have selected the engineer again and when the game just starts, a heavy appears
in front of me and the game got freeze again. Same like before, to kill the
process where needed.
4) I have repeated the same actions with: Different characters, different maps,
and the game got freeze completely random. I was not able to find a patter
after 3 ours of testing.
5) I have tried to run ft2 by running the following line but the game crashes
while loading a level:
$ env WINEDEBUG=fixme-all env WINEPREFIX="/home/game/.wine" padsp wine explorer
/desktop=steam,1680x1050 "c:\archivos de

This is the "Magic: The Gathering" implementation written on Java. The game is
freeware, you can download it from their site:
http://virtualplaytable.com/downloads.php Since there's no native version yet I
tried to run it on wine and succeeded but I experienced strange behavior in the
process. The game (or rather the included JRE) seems to require BASS.dll but it
doesn't contain it and runs fine on Windows without it. But on wine it shows a
message box "The procedure entry point BASS_Init could not be located in the
dynamic link library BASS.dll". So I downloaded this DLL which is also freeware
from http://www.un4seen.com/download.php?bass24 But it didn't help. Then I
tried to debug and see what's wrong inside using WINEDEBUG=+relay wine
Playtable.exe > log.txt 2>&1 And the game suddenly started. It still shows the
error when I run it without the debug variable or when I use debug but redirect
the output to /dev/null but it runs fine if I redirect it to /dev/zero. Strange
enough and I tested it on two different PCs on wine 1.3.37 and 1.4rc5 built by
myself from git without any 3rd party patches. A perfect case of a heisenbug
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heisenbug).
I make a cautious assumption that it somehow connected to the speed of the
execution. Maybe a race condition or such. When program is being debugged it
slows down and bass.dll has enough time to decrypt and unpack itself (yes, it
looks like heavily obfuscated). When I redirect the debug output to /dev/null

According to kernel32/except.c, there are only two behaviors supported by Wine:
1) (with AeDebug\Auto = 0) show a dialog when a crash occurs
2) (with AeDebug\Auto = 1) run a debugger process
There doesn't seem to be a way to have the program terminate on a crash. I
suppose a program could override it by changing the exception handler but the
default start_debugger() handler has this functionality.

dsound: Handle failing of IDsDriver_CreateSoundBuffer better.
prior to wine-0.9.44 causes Ankh's voice output to stop way before the end of
each sentence. Although it's a very old commit and the (structure of the) code
in dsound looks different now, behaviour has never changed since. The bug is
audible right from the intro movie.
Simultaneously, it causes the movie to stop intermittently (for ~1/2s, varying)
at the start of each audio sentence. Before that commit, movement was quite
fluid.
Perhaps the 1/2 second (sometimes more, sometimes randomly less) that is cut
from the end of the audio output corresponds with the motion break that occurs
before audio is started, as if audio output was hold back for a small and
random amount of time, then chopped?
Winecfg setting OSS HW, 22050Hz at 8bit; using Ubuntu Intrepid.
HW or emulation makes no difference. Same results with ALSA (in versions of
Wine newer than 0.9.44 where ALSA does not seem to initialize with Intrepid).
No PulseAudio.

In MYOB, there are tabs inside the application (e.g. general ledger -> chart of
accounts -> tabs at top of page). Switching from one tab to another when
running under MS Windows can be achieved by clicking on the tab. However in
Wine, this does not work (it does not switch to the new tab). Instead the user
has to use a workaround to switch between tabs, either by clicking AND THEN
pressing the space key, or by using the Alt + "underlined letter" keyboard
shortcut to switch between tabs.
I have only used MYOB 10.0.2, and so have only observed this problem there, but
other versions on MYOB have this tab-switching problem in Wine too, according
to appdb, e.g. versions 11, 16, 17 too:

I'm not sure if the problem is with Wine or Macports but I have followed the
directions at http://davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/#part-1 and contacted
the author who has read the log. Here is his response:
"Looks like there's a problem with how a file is being compiled: it
can't find the symbols it needs to compile properly. This could be a
problem with Wine itself, or with the way Macports installs it. I
checked Google, and I don't see anyone else with this problem, which
is odd."
"I suggest you create a bug report on either
trac.macports.org or http://bugs.winehq.org (or both!) and attach that
log file to that bug report. Hopefully, someone more knowledgable than
me will be able to help you out.
-David"
I have done as he said and attached the log and I will place a bug report with
macports after this one is sent.

greeted with a dialogue like in the attached image. The buttons are not

soon as you hit the license agreement screen and try to navigate to the accept

get out of the text field with the license text. At this point you can only
terminate Wine.
A (temporary) workaround is described at

Summary: Hebrew text missrendered (missing or misplased vowel
points) depending on the font
Product: Wine

Platform: x86

Status: UNCONFIRMED

In short a certain software ISA v2 (and hopefully not only, i.e. not an app
specific issue that renders the same on native Windows (I can't check this))
displays hebrew characters in various flawed ways.
Fonts fall into at least two categories:
missing niqqud:
There are fonts that render niqqud for all but the last letter in a word. I've
also seen fonts that are rendered displaying the dot on a _final_ shin yet the
same font fails to do the same for a final vav. These fonts are almost usable
otherwise, but even these have the dots missplaced by a few pixels.
Even Ezra SIL is affected and in it's case these niqqudim are half of the
letters width off to the left. Ezra SIL fails to render both the dot on a shin
as well as for other letters.
missplacing niqqud:
There are other fonts like Tahoma, Times or Arial that render _all_ the vowels
but they fail to insert them under the letters and appear separately under
whitespace as if it was another character, which makes things illegible.
Relevant to this bug: http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=76000#76000
(Most fonts can't display hebrew characters at all and those that do probably
do not include vowels signs (i.e. niqqud) so testing can be tricky.)

When faced with a partition that has more than 1TB of free disk space it looks
like this API returns a negative value. Apparently this happened on OpenSUSE
11.4 64bit with a 32bit Wine; but not being fortunate enough to have this much
free disk space I cannot verify this.
I suspect some Unix API we call returns the free disk size in block of 512
bytes, thus overflowing at 2^31-1 blocks which is about 1TB. Then
GetDiskFreeSpaceEx() takes that and returns a negative free disk space.
Note that GetDiskFreeSpaceEx() returns 64bit values so there's no obstable to
it handle such large disks in theory.

Hi we are trying to port a windows native application compiled in visual studio
6 to an ubuntu lucid linux distribution.
The windows native application works well without problems into the XP, Windows
7, W2K8 R2 native Windows environments.
The windows native application is a legacy application solution composed by
three components that at the moment we can port to linux and use it with Wine.
Nice job Wine team.
We have tested the native windows application using the lastest builds version
(1.3 && 1.4) and a new compilation from the 1.5 sources about Wine
The tests has been performed in Wine desktop mode.
The native windows application is started under a W2K8 R2 enviroment enclosed
in a 1024x768 desktop mode using Wine.
The native windows application requires the mfc42 dll library downloaded with
winetricks
The components are installed locally into the ".wine" home user profile
The general application is executed remotely under a network share mounted
locally into the operating system
I only can say that the program works well in all version built or compiled but
we got a weird problem...
Lets me formule a hipotesys
We,
1) Deploy and install the native windows application's components under the
".wine" home use profile
2) Configure the native application windows enviroment. Environment variables.
Windows register. Network shares. Etc.
3) Runs the main application.
4) After the single sign-on into the main application the application display a
main window into the screen as desktop background. The components are loaded
over the displayed main window.
5) The displayed window have an menu bar and lets start up subprocess for each
item available.
6) For each subprocess started, the application start up another window that is
loaded into the main application desktop
7) Internally, each subprocess is an exe program run by wine
...Here is the problem...
8) The mouse lost the focus over each new subprocess about window
9) The mouse can not pick buttons into the new window. The buttons can not be
pressed.
10) The mouse can no pick fields into the new window. The fields can not be
selected for input.
11) But the mouse can expand a drop-box menu field. We can select an item from
the drop-box menu field.
12) The mouse cannot check/uncheck a checkbox menu field
13) We can move between fields, drop-box, menu checkbox, button, etc using the
TAB key for input or select purposes.
14) But we always can use the principal main menu bar about the main window for
open new subprocess / windows loaded into the main window
15) When we select a different window loaded into the main window. We can not
select the previous window. We can not active the previous windows manually. We
windows remains opened and we can not close them.
We think that the mouse loses the focus control over the windows, fields,
buttons for each new instance loaded into the main window.
The wine execution do not reports any errors. If we increase the debug level we
can not see any considerable errors.
Seems that everything is working well but we are experimenting troubles with
the mouse.
Someone can help us?

Fallen Earth, when run in a clean wine prefix using the latest git crashes
after a few minutes of play. The crash produces just one log output:
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr
0x7bc3b3ed
I've attached a winedbg backtrace showing that the crash is in RtlAllocateHeap.
Each crash I've captured has a slightly different back trace but the top two
frames are always RtlAllocateHeap and list_remove.
Trace and relay logging is impossible with this application as they slow the
application too much to play long enough to observe the crash. Another clue is
that turning on the warn+heap channel seems to prevent the crash at the expense
of framerate and an extended shut-down time.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

The virtual desktop window on OSX (through wine-devel on MacPorts) has a
titlebar titled "Default - Wine Desktop" that doesn't seem to be able to be
removed. I am using the latest XQuartz.
The issue is evident at any resolution configured through winecfg. Is this by
design? This wasn't the case as I remember from Ubuntu (though that was still
1.4-ish). Operating without virtual desktop window allows true fullscreen, but
there are some apps that aren't able to handle not having a virtual desktop
very well.
If wineex11 isn't the right component, please let me know and/or change
accordingly. Thanks!

Summary: Sims3Launcher.exe doesn't start reliable
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.9
Hardware: x86-64

Since I have updated to wine 1.7.9 the Sims3Launcher.exe of "The Sims 3" shows
a strange behaviour:
I am using Sims 3 through Steam and I have a simple bash-script to start it,
just a "cd" to the right directory and a "wine" with the right prefix, etc.
Normally I start the script through a Sims3.desktop-file. Yes, I know, I am
lazy…
After installing wine 1.7.9 steam starts, ask me if I want to play "Sims 3" or
view the support informations, installs prerequisites - and stops! At this time
the launcher should start. I modified the script so the Sims3Launcher.exe
starts directly (that's possible, because the copy-protection is on the real
game executable) but the launcher does not start. If I use the script from a
terminal emulator, there is normally no problem with wine 1.7.9! "Normally"
means it sometimes does not start from terminal emulator too.
All this is the behaviour after a fresh boot! If the start of the launcher
fails one time, I have to logout and login again (no reboot needed), after that
I can start the launcher again from a terminal emulator. It took quite some
time to find out this behaviour, but this should be the best description I
could give to you.
I tried to make a regression but failed. Regression testing with a 32-bit-wine
in a 64-bit-linux is too hard for me, sorry. :-(
Ah, one more info: Once the start failed from a terminal I had a look at the
messages, there are only 2 lines and those appear at a working start too! So no
messages I can provide. The launcher silently just does not start.
Downgrading to wine 1.7.8 solved the problem. If I can provide any more
informations, just ask. Sorry again for no regression test.

During gameplay the game will lock up (game still displayed, X still
responsive, can alt-tab out). It will happen seemingly random (although it's
happening more frequently now anecdotal - now being towards the end of the
game). The only error I get is;
ALSA lib pcm.c:7319:(snd_pcm_recover) cannot recovery from underrun, prepare
failed: Input/output error
Have to kill wineserver to recover. Running amd64 Gentoo with pulseaudio 1.1.
During the game the audio works perfectly and this issue is the only reason I
can't put the game down as gold rating.
Final note, it never happens in the same place twice and the gaps between
crashes is decreasing like I've said.

If you try to start program, that has a virtual desktop hook configured in
winecfg, with LNK from system menu, virtual desktop will not be created.
Steps to reproduce:
1. install any program that will provide a LNK file in the system menu under
wine directory;
2. run winecfg and add the executable of installed program to the list;
3. select added executable in the list and proceed to Graphics tab;
4. specify the virtual desktop size to emulate;
5. save changes and close winecfg.
6. try to run the program via executable: the virtual desktop should hook-up;
7. try to run the program via LNK in system menu: the program starts without
virtual desktop.
The command in system menu looks like

This seems to be an ancient unreported bug (circa 2007), but it didn't changed.
Star Wars Kotor II still can't go into fullscreen, although it can be played on
virtual desktop, fullscreen or creating a new X DISPLAY, but not in the default

workaround in some nasty way. Also, there are issues changing resolutions.
Aside of this, game is perfectly playable.

I did both the run and install with winedbg set to "all," and I think the

memory allocation problem: symptom: ~300MB allocation denied on an ubuntu linux
box with 8GB running wine1.4 (also tested wine1.5).
I've created a simplified test case taking advantage of the memory test program
contributed here (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=32366). I compile it
via:
#i586-mingw32msvc-gcc -O0 test-mem.c -o test-mem.exe
thereby creating a windows executable that runs under wine. The test program
successfully allocates memory (malloc) up to 1408 megabytes, which (while
disappointing) is completely expected and about as much as I can get in 32bit
windows.
THE PROBLEM: run the same executable via the condor scheduler
(http://research.cs.wisc.edu/condor/) and the largest allocation is 448MB!! I
have extensively investigated the issue and posted on the condor-users list, to
absolutely no avail.
I need to provide my 32-bit windows program with as much memory as possible.
WHAT TO DO? any thoughts/help appreciated.
thanks, jason

When playing a standard DRM-protected movie in DVD quality with 5.1 audio in
Wine, downmixing to stereo (on a laptop where both ALSA and PulseAudio know
that no extra outputs are available) does not work properly.
What I hear (just a wild guess):
Left channel: Subwoofer
Right channel: Right Middle or Right Rear speaker
Sound works just fine for movies that only have a standard stereo soundtrack. I
tried to click through the whole WMP 10 settings and also through some codec
settings, but did not find anything helpful there.
Also tried three different audio settings in Wine:
Standard ALSA: Works and plays through PulseAudio (as well as without it), but
has the issue reported above.
ESD: Thought it might cooperate with PulseAudio directly, but WMP crashes on an
unhandled page fault in this case.
OSS: WMP gets stuck when opening the file, no sound produced, no matter if run
with padsp or not.

While getting the game to start can be difficult (every game start a crash
dialog will display and the game may or may not launch when it is closed) it
does run. However in various scenes the game will hang.
In the intro map looking around will cause the game to hang. You can bypass
this crash by looking down and strafing out to the hallway. The game will then
play normally until you get a level involving a television station. The game
will then hang if you try and explore the employee lounge. Again, you can avoid
this area and continue to play. From there I had no issues until it loaded up
the level Lady Killer. After pressing Space to start the level the game again
hangs.
There's no console output specific to this event. I'll post any log info from
requested debug variables in order to help someone track down this issue.

Summary: Fullscreen behavior constrains virtual desktops to
leftmost Monitor when using Twinview
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.23
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P1
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Skiri-ki(a)gmx.de
I have a dual-monitor setup using nvidias twinview to combine two monitors with
a resolution of 1280x1024 each summing up to 2560x1024 total resolution. Some
Fullscreen applications only receive the total resolution, try to use it, and
get restricted to one monitor. Therefor only half of the application is
rendered while the rest gets cut of (e.g. Portal). Alternately the application
fails to start entirely (e.g Oblivion).
This isn't a problem if the application also has a list of common
screen-resolutions along with the Twinview-resolution and can also be fixed by
using a Virtual Desktop which works fine save for one tiny detail.
Since Bug 14985 (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14985) was fixed these
desktops are constrained to the leftmost monitor.
In my case this is my "secondary" monitor, and using it for primary purposes
instead of assisting, secondary purposes causes me to rearange things on my
desk. Yes this is merely an inconvenience for me but might be creating more
trouble for others.
This could be fixed by either using the designated(by twinview) primary
display, the display the application was launched on or through a configurable
option.
If it's a to complex problem to efficiently solve, I wont mind if it's not
implemented though.

When opening the torrent with 2000+ files, the dialog window shows (it takes a
while though) and lets you select the destination folder, after that the
program slows down to the point of almost hanging (this doesn't happen with
normal torrents with 5 or 6 files) making it unusable. This bug was present in
previous versions of wine. The behavior in previous versions was that
periodically the program would start working for a couple of seconds, and then
hang for five minutes or so. In the last version, it was not tested if this
behavior was still present, but the program still hangs like in previous
versions.

Windows XP can be set to not blink cursors using the Keyboard control panel.
Wine has a similar setting in win.ini (see bug 10106).
Setting the blink rate to None on Windows stops the cursor from blinking in
Firefox, but in Wine it does not affect Firefox.

i m using wine 1.5.10 (i have tested also v1.4-->1.5.8 ) on a dedicated server
running on Debian Squeeze 64bits.
I start servers of games like brink, mw3, Sev2 (these games can be loaded
freely via the steam tool).
Everything is working good. Servers are running and we can play multiplayer
without trouble.
But the logs of games are always empty.
For example with SEv2 :
When the game start a file called "connection_log_PORT.txt" is created and
writed (all is ok here) and a second called "dedicated_console.txt" is empty.
Normally this second file should show all actions on server. It is not the
case.
I started the programm with this option too "&> log.txt". The file is created
but it is empty.
I tried also to start the game with Wine under vnc. The game start and console
show all events but they are not writen inside file called
"dedicated_console.txt".
We tried on 2 dedicated servers with the same result.
The problem seems comin from Wine which do not write on these kind of files.
For these games i have installed xvfb-run and winetricks

Hello friends,
I've got a little problem with my OED 2nd Edition version 1.14.
Download from http://www.oup.co.uk/academic/cdromsupport/oed2v1/
It still runs, but for some reason which I can't understand, it's not
displaying some special characters anymore, specially greek characters and the
phonetic characters.
I'm using the stable version (wine-1.0.1-174-gc4039bd), but the problem is even
worse with the latest development versions.
The most strange to me is that it used to show theses characters perfectly
well, and now it stop displaying them.
I couldn't find anything similar here at bugzilla.
Does anyone know how I could try to solve this?
Thank you very much!
Zac

After applying the patch from bug 20816, reaching the Civilization II main menu

described by bug 20816 was winmm related, I suspect there's another winmm issue
here also.

Summary: DC Universe Online crashes on entering game world
Product: Wine

Dear all,
I've just recently installed DC universe online and it's working like a charm
on my Windows OS. The problem is when I try running it from wine.
My laptop specs are:
DELL Inspiron 1564
Intel Core i3 - 2.4 GHz
2GB RAM
ATI Radeon with Catalyst up to 1.2.9 - I don't think this is the problem.
Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx)
Wine 1.4
I'm running it in a virtual desktop of size 1280x720.
It loads perfectly fine (though it takes quite a large amount of time). I get
to the character selection screen and select my character. As soon as I enter
the game world and it starts to load all its elements, the crash reporter pops
up and the game freezes.
Attached is the terminal output when running the game.
You'll notice that there's a repeating line in the file. It only appears on
starting the game itself, not the launcher (the intro movies and character
selection screen).
The last few lines appear when I exit the game due to it crashing.
Thank you very much for any help given.

Summary: Some Pre-Game Videos Do Not Show in Wine - Hype The

In Hype the Time Quest, when it is loading after you click "play", the screen
goes white in most versions of Wine, though I remember it being black in 1.3.28
one time.
There should be a video playing then all the way until you see the Ubisoft
loading bar.
Then you get to the game menu. After you start a new game from there, you see a
loading bar with sea gulls flying over it.
After that loading bar finishes (the one with sea gulls), there should be
footage illustrating the intro story as it is being spoken by Gogoud.
Eventually you do get to a video that you can see in Wine, and it is the one
with text in a box over the video and shows Hype in Gogoud's lawn as a statue
and Gogoud unstatuifying you, etc.
So that's two segments of video that should be visible that aren't.
You can hear audio during the playing of the video, but you can't see the
video.
I'm putting 1.3.28 as the version, but I have not seen any version of Wine show
the videos.

Summary: Eudemons Online: In-game graphics rendered outside of
virtual desktop
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.2
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P1
Component: opengl
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: fatalitycomix(a)gmail.com
Overview:
After successful login to a game server, while emulating a virtual desktop (the
only known way to produce in-game graphics at all), the in-game graphics are
displayed 100% to the left of the virtual desktop. The input area remains the
same (within the virtual desktop).
See attached screenshot for an example of this glitch.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Set a built-in dll override for "MFC42.DLL" for both "play.exe" and
"soul.exe"
1a) Copy a recent Windows XP version of MFC42.DLL to wine's system32 folder.
2) Set graphics overrides for "play.exe" that include emulating a virtual
desktop of 1024x768 pixels @ 96 DPI.
3) Run "Play.exe" using wine.
4) Log in to a game server.
Actual Results:
The application ran and its in-game graphics were displayed outside of the
virtual desktop.
Expected Results:
The in-game graphics should be displayed within the virtual desktop, matching
the input area.
