Come on people, let's get this ball rolling. Enough people pledge money, I'm
sure we can make a talented programmer very happy. Maybe they're short on
mortgage repayment this month, their car loan, they skint on money to feed
their wife and kids. Or who knows, maybe they want to have a few nights of fun
and we can enable them ;)
$100 here. $50 there. $20 here. $10 there. Enough people chip in, we can get
this hole in WINE filled. The fact that it affects old games I think is of
quite great importance, many many people who used Windows back in the day have
shifted to Linux and want to relive the old days of gaming (me bloody well
included!), but this missing feature of WINE is stopping an extremely part of
that: multiplayer. This feature gets properly implemented, and great classics
such as GTA2, Hardwar and AoE will reliably run network games across Linux,
Windows and Mac machines.

Btw the Age of Wonders demo (http://wiki.winehq.org/DirectPlay) also can be
used to test it.

Ismael Barros did some initial work for GSoC 2008 (Comment #28).
If there would be someone willing to write a working DirectPlay7 implementation
in Wine: I'd pledge $100 for that :)
BTW. An easy way to test DirectPlay7 (e.g. for someone wanting to reimplement
it) is the freely available The Settlers 3 Demo:

Hello Nikolay,
--- quote ---
Installer still leaves IDriver process hanging around. Program itself starts
just fine for me. Anyone has an idea what we should check here? Otherwise I'd
say it's abandoned.
--- quote ---
as I read OP's initial report the bug was _not_ about the hanging out-of-proc
IShield COM server process but about the failure to start the app afterwards.
Since the IDE starts fine it's 'fixed' not 'abandoned'.
You are of course free to create a new bug about the lingering IShield server
process.
It doesn't look serious as the install itself is already finished at that
point.
