The game - Heroes of Might and Magic 3.58 worked very well on many releases of
wine up to 1.2.3 - since that and up to 1.4.1 it keeps failing.
What I saw running the game under wine-1.4.1 version from terminal windows:
One time:

likely your OpenGL drivers haven't been installed correctly (using GL renderer

Please do not consider the 3D-acceleration errors - it does not matter to me
for now. So I ever ran the app. - successfuly - up to 1.2.3 version of wine.
I run under debian wheezy on 64-bit system - all wine packages and related are
from 42-bit arch. having multi-arch. enabled.

Go into Battle for Naboo and choose a sphere (a game). There will be a
monologue and a circular picture of a stylised scene from the level you have
selected.
This circular picture is bordered with a blue frame. It isn't a smooth blue
like in Windows. It has funny nested curved lines as it tries to make the same
smoothness as happens in Windows.
I'll be posting a video to show exactly what I mean.
This might be related to the pause menu border being flickery.
This is my graphics card:
An ATI Redwood [Radeon HD 5670] using the fglrx proprietary driver.
modinfo said my ATI driver's srcversion is EEC3D3F06B0B31BC528C8D9.
I'm putting 1.3.16 as the version, though I have never seen this work in any
version of Wine (up to 1.4 rc 2). I think this is an "original" bug, as opposed
to a bug introduced by a patch.

when run with winedebug options the game crashes immediately with no video

not find any relevant pages or fixes; also did an extensive net search with no

Summary: Artweaver tool window fails to re-dock

In Artweaver 1.07 the Properties tool window can be undocked from it's default
position (directly below the application menus), but when the window is dragged
back to that position, it fails to re-dock. As a workaround, this Properties
window can be re-docked via menu Window->Arrange Palettes->Default, but this is
not ideal since it also defaults all other floating tool windows. Note: In
native MS Windows re-docking occurs after LMB release, and this behavior varies
slightly in WinXP versus Vista, the latter requiring that the dragged window
overlap the application menus slightly in order to dock.

but without it, you can never get in game. To reproduce:
install brink.
Workaround bug 27141.
Apply patch for bug 20395, so you can use the mouse.
Run winecfg, choose an audio driver (I got a crash otherwise).
Start the game, I choose 'Escape the ark' (but I don't think it matters),
create a default character, and mash the enter to start a game. Eventuall
you'll get a loading screen, saying to press any key.
Now, with builtin msvcr90, you'll get a black screen with two buttons, one to
load a menu, one to skip the intro. The game will hang at this point.
With native, an intro video plays.
I'll attach a +msvcrt trace.

When I run a game via "WINEDEBUG=/home/korn/wineprefixes/comanche_3 wine

After returning from 11 day vacation on 5/19/2013 and installing Kubuntu
updates accumulated during that period, (including kernel IIRC) MSMoney 2003
crashes upon opening the user's data (username.mny) file. I installed the
newest version of WINE plus reinstalled MSMoney 2003 and encountered the same
problem after each step. Upon initial install of the updates, MSMoney would
crash and then enter a crash/restart loop after presenting a MS error dialog
box (vague message that MSMoney had encountered a serious error). I didn't
realize it was crashing upon opening the .mnt file until reinstalling MSMoney
2003 since MSMoney automatically opens the last file it was using upon startup.
After reinstalling MSMoney 2003 into WINE, MSMoney would start up correctly
since it had no previously used file to try and open but crashed with identical
error as soon as the user selected to open their .mny data file. Before the
installation of the accumulated Kubuntu updates MSMoney 2003 worked fine.

Allow NORM_LINGUISTIC_CASING in CompareStringEx
Several Silverlight applications use CompareStringEx with the
NORM_LINGUISTIC_CASING flag in order to process manifest files. Since Wine
does not currently support this flag these applications error out (sometimes
gracefully, sometimes not).
According to MSDN NORM_LINGUISTIC_CASING is actually the default behavior, so
it seems that we should just allow the flag to be passed to the function and
ignore it.
I've been informed that (besides PlayReady sites) a site that is affected by
this issue that does not require additional patches can be found here:

I'm not quite sure where, but if the software renderer is instructed to use
more than 1 thread, the emulator crashes whenever the GS plugin is being
initialised.
The crashing message in question is as follows
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address (nil)
(thread 0030), starting debugger...
No further information is dumped.
It works correctly under Windows, but only under wine when a single thread is
used.
As such I suspect it may be an issue with how threads are handled in wine - but
that is simply an uneducated guess.
The sourcecode for the application can be found on googlecode.
If I can help debug it in some way, let me know.

I've been unable to install Steam for some time, across multiple versions of
Wine dating back maybe six months. Current version is 1.4. I run the
installer, downloaded from the Steam site, as follows:
$ wine msiexec /i SteamInstall.msi
It starts the installer and displays the first dialog, with Next and Cancel
buttons. When I click Next, it crashes with the attached backtrace.
In trying again to check a few things for this bug report, I noticed it says:

So possibly the problem is with leftovers from a previous installation attempt.
I don't know how to clear them out, though.

I can paste text into SQL editor window if I copied it elsewhere, but I can not
copy text from SQL editor window. Needless to say it works flawlessly in
Windows.
Previously tried wine 1.2 and CrossOver with the same result.
