Created an attachment (id=36038)

bigraceusademo.exe on wine 1.3.26 (no debug channels)
In the Big Race USA Demo (or the full Big Race USA game as sold by gog.com),
the menu animations (blinking of text and spinning of icons) move far too fast.
Additionally, the game music and sound effects are incredibly fast and
'crackly'. I mention both issues as it seems likely they have the same root
cause. My CPU is an i5-750 at 2.67Ghz (presumably this problem may not occur on
something much slower like an Atom).
Workaround: Use cpulimit on the bigraceusademo.exe process. Turning on a noisy
enough debug channel will also slow the process down enough that the sound
problem will go away.
To reproduce, just install the linked demo, run bigraceusademo.exe and observe
the rapidly spinning menu items and corrupted audio output.
$ sha1sum bigrace.zip
fd5cbfc5da9dd29a010cb02a1f847a753a65c2b2 bigrace.zip
The demo and full game both work perfectly in Win 7 x64 on the same hardware.
I tested in wine 1.0.1, 1.2.3, 1.3.26 and some versions in between. The problem
was less pronounced in 1.0.1 (likely due to worse overall performance).
I'll attach the output from 1.3.26, though the only relevant line appears to be
the following, which seems to be a likely culprit for the problem:
fixme:ddraw:ddraw7_WaitForVerticalBlank iface 0x1557b0, flags 0x1, event (nil)

Run BMFont (http://www.angelcode.com/products/bmfont/) and click on some of the
checkboxes to the right to select characters to be included. It is not possible
to uncheck the checkboxes.
Workaround is to unselect one of the characters (click on a character in that
range) which changes the full checked box to a part check box. The part check
box can be unselected.

Summary: [UWIN] ksh93 from UWIN generates a lot of fixme
warnings
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.30
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: simon.toedt(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
Running ksh93 (Korn Shell 93) from the UWIN (Unix emulation on Windows) toolkit
generates a lot of "fixme" warnings and the shell is generally not useable.
The goal is to use WINE for automated testing without having to fire up a full
blown Windows system each time in VMware or real iron.
Steps to test:
1. Install UWIN:
> wget --http-user="I accept www.opensource.org/licenses/eclipse"
--http-passwd="."
> wine uwin-base.2013-02-08.win32.i386.exe
2. Run Windows/UWIN version of ksh93:
wine64 'C:\Program Files/UWIN/usr/bin/ksh.exe'

2. fixme:netapi32:NetQueryDisplayInformation Level 1 partially implemented

I am used to the shortcut "Alt+Tab" with the effect of switching between

screen mode.
How much has this behaviour got to do with an option "Managed windows using

CON test program (source and exe)
(Email sent to wine-devel for assistance, but logging bug to track issue in
case I do not get anywhere)
CreateFile("\\.\CON", GENERIC_READ...) followed by ReadFile(...) works on
windows and fails on wine. I need this particular sequence of events to work in
order for a patch I have for cmd.exe to support CON input 'nicely' (read
'without hacks').
For simplicity sake I've cut this down to a tiny test program, which works on
windows and fails on wine which does the following:
Opens the device ("\\.\CON") with CreateFile with GENERIC_READ rights (which
internally opens a CONIN$ device with the same access rights)
Reads from the device with ReadFile
- Because its a console device, this drops through to ReadConsoleW, which
creates a CONOUT$ and then waits on a keystroke
- Once the key is pressed (WCEL_Get) the key is 'inserted' into the input
buffer by calling WriteConsoleInputW
The issue is that WriteConsoleInputW requires GENERIC_WRITE access, but the CON
device (\\.\CON) was opened as GENERIC_READ (and in fact fails if I try to open
it with GENERIC_WRITE). CreateFile("CONIN$"...) will let me open in
GENERIC_READ/GENERIC_WRITE mode and the program works on both windows and wine,
but if you open CONIN$ GENERIC_READ only then it fails on wine and works on
windows, with the same issue.
Now on windows, this works... the question is how to make it work on wine...
My gut feeling, with nothing backing this at all, is that WCEL_Get should not
use WriteConsoleInputW to inject the values into the input buffer, instead
making the server call directly, but passing through to the server call
something to indicate that it is ok to add the data to the buffer, but I'm fast
getting out of my depth!
How to reproduce: Compile sample source (exe provided in zip)...
Run as:
"test 1" - this is the one I need to work... \\.\CON GENERIC_READ case
"test 2" - this is a similar problem but opens CONIN$ GENERIC_READ
"test 3" - this works on both windows and wine, opening CONIN$
GENERIC_READ|GENERIC_WRITE
"test 4" - this fails on both windows and wine as you cannot open CON device
with WRITE access
Except for case 4, When its 'failing' - when you press a key in wine, it exits.
When its 'working' it reads from keyboard, echos to screen until ctrl+Z (crtl+D
on wine) is pressed and ends

In Wolfenstein (2009), browsing the intelligence reports or upgrading weapons
sometimes causes the mouse cursor to remain on screen even when the in-game
menus are closed. In other words, during FPS gameplay, the cursor sits right
where the crosshairs should be and does not disappear. Needless to say this is
quite distracting. This cursor bug seems to appear randomly, but always after
browsing an intelligence report or upgrading weapons. The only way to get rid
of the cursor is to restart the game. I'll post an attachment showing this bug
the next time I see it.

Hello,

Tested in 1.3.19
Didn't crash but I couldn't get past the "Product Key" screen. The "Next"

The problem in Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1 installer is the
"ValidateProductID" standard action.

The "PIDRET" property never exists hence the installation is stuck in

If you google for "Adding PIDRET property" you will find many similar looking
msi logs, suggesting that this property is added during ValidatePID custom

value is '0'.
Action ended 17:55:05: ValidatePID. Return value 1.

Because ProductID was set earlier during ValidateProductID standard action,
CA_ValidatePID is never executed.
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blob/8cc5561fbf9f3250fbd2d986390e4013…
If you remove line 6891 the installer executes the custom action which allows
to proceed and let the installation finally succeed.
You need 'winetricks mfc42' for CA_ValidatePID.

Noticed in notepad++, but wine explorer has the same behavior.

drag
the top item in list is selected, even though the mouse is nowhere nearby
this does not occur on windows with notepad++

Summary: Allow remapping of joystick buttons
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.14
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dinput
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: achurch+wine(a)achurch.org
Some Windows games only accept a limited number of joystick button inputs,
presumably based on the set of joystick devices against which the game was
tested. If the native driver for a device returns different button numbers
than the Windows driver, this can prevent some common controller devices from
being used with such games. For example, the PlayStation 3 controller reports
its face buttons as button numbers 12-15, but apparently the commonly used
Windows driver "MotioninJoy" remaps these to lower button numbers; due to that,
some games (such as Astebreed: http://edelweiss.skr.jp/works/astebreed/) only
accept up to 12 button inputs, preventing PS3 controllers from working
properly.
The attached patch (against Wine 1.7.14) adds a "ButtonMap" configuration value
to the DirectInput registry key, allowing the first 16 joystick button inputs
reported by Wine to be remapped to arbitrary native joystick buttons. The
format of the value is a comma-separated list of numbers, with the first number
giving the (zero-based) physical button index for DirectInput button 0, the
second number giving the physical button index for DirectInput button 1, and so
on for up to 16 buttons.

Proposed fix
Recent wine versions abort on startup if the config directory isn't owned by
the user running wine.
This breaks setups where several users share a common wine prefix (e.g. to make
applications that make heavy use of the registry available to several users
without installing them several times) and they have the right access to the
configs through group permissions.
Unless I'm overlooking a better way to do this, it would make more sense to
check proper permissions than to check ownership. I'm attaching a patch that
does that.

By default '~' is used to bring up the chat window.
The issue can be tested by creating a new profile in the game: the input field,
containing the name, should accept all of the above mentioned characters but
they're not recognized (only the letters and numbers work and some of the
special characters by using <Shift>: @!$%).
Installing native dinput8.dll (via winetricks) doesn't help in Majesty 2.

ReportedBy: bluescale1976(a)aol.com
This is more of a feature request, I hope I completed the form correctly. I
was wondering if it would be possible to either add the screen reader NVDA in
to a default installation of Wine, or make it so that NVDA can be installed in
to Wine. NVDA would give blind Linux users access to applications in Wine. It
does not use video hooks, so it is probably the best choice for a Wine screen
reader. It is open source and can be found at:
http://www.nvda-project.org/
The installer talks, so if it could be made to work, installing it with out
sighted assistance would be no problem.
Thanks

Crash log in 1.1.27
I discovered this while trying to reproduce 5255.
During installation, the Nota Bene Demo reports that AUTOEXE.NT and CONFIG.NT
have been removed from the system, and won't continue unless you allow it to
restore them. If you agree, the installation starts. However, when the
installation bar reaches 100%, the installer crashes.
The files appear to have been installed. But on running nblaunch.exe, the
program crashes immediately.
I have attached a log.

Doing

rm -rf ~/.wine
sh winetricks -q vcrun2008
cd ~/wine-git/dlls/msvcr90/tests
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=msvcr90=n ~/wine-git/wine msvcr90_test.exe.so
says
msvcr90.c:243: Tests skipped: msvcr90.dll not installed (got 126)
This seems wrong; that dll is in fact installed. The app in question
is built with the manifest
http://source.winehq.org/source/dlls/msvcr90/tests/msvcr90.manifest
which contains the line
processorArchitecture="*"
Tracing through the code, lookup_manifest_file in ntdll/actctx.c seems to
incorrectly parse the native DLL's manifest as having build 0 rather
than 30729.
The problem appears to be that line 1872 assumes that the string
lookup contains no *'s other than the ones in lookup_fmtW, and so
doesn't skip to where it expected to when it does the strchrW:
1826 static const WCHAR wine_trailerW[] =
{'d','e','a','d','b','e','e','f','.','m','a','n','i','f','e','s','t'};
1842 sprintfW( lookup, lookup_fmtW, ai->arch, ai->name, ai->public_key,
1843 ai->version.major, ai->version.minor, lang );
1872 tmp = dir_info->FileName + (strchrW(lookup, '*') - lookup);
1873 build = atoiW(tmp);
1874 if (build < min_build) continue;
If ai->arch contains a '*', as it does in tests/msvcr90.manifest,
this assumption is violated. Changing the manifest to say
processorArchitecture="x86"
lets the test run and find the native DLL, at least on x86.
So, is the manifest wrong, or is lookup_manifest_file() wrong?
(This came up while I was trying to write tests for vcomp.dll. It was
frustrating to find that the example I'd borrowed the manifest from was
broken.)

Backtrace #1
After several hours of playtime with "Civilization II Multiplayer Gold", a
crash occurs with an error box and upon exiting the error box, the game closes.
It's a clean Wine 1.6 install with no proprietary DLLs etc. installed that I am
aware of.
Game was launched in Windowed mode at 1280x720 with Civ2 in Win98 mode. Only
"Allow Window manager to control the windows" under Graphics is selected with
the Virtual desktop at 1280x720. Other than the crash during extended play, the
game works perfectly. I haven't used Windows since XP but know this game did
not work under XP without hacks so I am unable to give a report about if it
works on Windows.
This is my first Bug Report and I apologize if I have missed anything. I ran
through the other reports and I can't find anything like my issue. I've played
it for 7+ hours before the crash. I ran it a second time as I wrote this
report, with the terminal, and I will include the output of that as it crashed
again around 400 B.C. Game Year.

I am trying to install Davka Judaic Classics IIc, a bookshelf kind of software
with Hebrew books. It is a win32 program that was designed for running also on
win3.11, hence the installer is, I believe, win16. I have used this software on
Win95 and Win98. The program happily runs off emulated cdroms.
I have now tried to install this program under wine, but can't even get the
installer to run. Attached you will find the output when running "wine
installa.exe" (the installer for installs from floppy drive a:). For the
record, I am using Fedora 10 for x86_64, with wine i386, version 1.1.7. The
kernel is 2.6.27.5-117.fc10.x86_64.
Can someone make sense out of the error message? How do I get around this?

A SUPER Log of buggies
This is a bug report for bld.35 of the free SUPER encoder by eRightSoft.
Attached is the log of what it does, I had to keep using the exit command to
even close the non-responsive application. Basically the window is scrambled,
you can't click anything and it freezes up.

Terminal log of process
Download pack.
Open installer, select 'Professional Edition', do not associate with media
player, untick create quicklaunch icon, untick virus scan.
Installer gets half way then gives message:
Access violation at address 3CB16DAF in module 'quartz.dll'. Read of address
00000000
Refreshes desktop and appears to have created an icon for quicktime in the
systray.
Installer then hangs.
Ending 'Dashboard.exe' process allows it to progress to the finish screen.
Then clicked a few things on the Quicktime icon which I think accounts for the
last bit of the log. No actual 'err' occurs during the installation process
