See details here http://www.steinberg.net/de/products/cubase/start.html (i only got a early copy of the 5th version) Finally i figured out how i can run the software with all its features but there is still one problem with one of the VSTi-Plugins named HALionOne. This is the only PlugIn (VSTi) which crashes with the console output in the attachment. After the "60sec (stub)" which you can see in the terminal output the Plugin crashes the full software without any other message. If i restart the app, Cubase ignores the PlugIn and set it to "failed while loading" so you can run Cubase without the HALionOne PlugIn. So the issue is that wineconsole does not support the RTL languages such as Hebrew and Arabic. To test this do the following: * xcopy is a tool that is Unicodified and properly accesses the console. So we are going to use it for testing. * Make sure your system is configured with support for the Hebrew locale ('dpkg-reconfigure locales' on Debian). * Hack po/he.po to add a Hebrew string with a trailing '.\n' for the xcopy usage message (it does not matter what it says). * Recompile xcopy. * First check that 'xcopy /?' shows the right string, very likely with the wrong orientation, in the terminal emulator: LANG=he_IL.utf8 ./wine programs/xcopy/xcopy.exe.so /? If it still shows the English usage it may be because you are missing libgettextpo. Other display issues may be because you are missing the right fonts or because your terminal emulator is buggy (Gnome terminal >= 3.0.1 and xterm >= 271 should show the string at least). Remember that the Unix terminal emulators are known to have a buggy RTL implementation and thus will display the message with the wrong orientation. * Then check that the right string shows up in wineconsole: LANG=he_IL.utf8 ./wine wineconsole cmd then type xcopy /? In my test the line where the Hebrew string should appear is almost empty (I only see the '32' and trailing '.' that were part of the translated string). It's possible there are two problems: * A font selection issue which could explain the 'invisible' characters. * An LTR vs. RTL issue: the '.' at the end of the PO string appears at the end of the wineconsole line which seems wrong since the same dot appears at the start of the line in a MessageBox(). The same test can be done with an Arabic locale by editing the po/ar.po file and setting LANG=ar_MA.utf8 for instance. As a last data point, a similar test with the left-to-right Telugu locale (LANG=te_IN.utf8, po/te.po) gets me squares in the Gnome terminal (proving my system has a font issue for that locale), but also in wineconsole. Tested using a new profile and an existing profile with identical results. No extra winetricks used on the new profile. It would be preferable (and clearer) to put instead a list of flags (as shown in the 'lang' page), which would all take to the 'lang' page. The WinUAE Amiga emulator uses raw input by default. When using raw input, WinUAE is unable to detect when the user presses the Pause key. WinUAE can detect presses of the Pause key when using DirectInput. To reproduce: - Download and run the WinUAE installer - Run WinUAE. By default it uses raw input. When the settings window opens click Start. - Press the Pause key several times. Each press should be reflected in the status bar at the bottom of the window and should pause/unpause emulation. But nothing happens. There is some Wine console output on each press, something like this: fixme:win:DefRawInputProc (paRawInput=0x4ccf240, nInput=1, cbSizeHeader=16) stub! fixme:win:DefRawInputProc (paRawInput=0x4ccf240, nInput=1, cbSizeHeader=16) stub! - Quit WinUAE and run it again, this time passing a -norawinput argument on the command line. There are probably a number of ways to cause the same crash, but the app is unusable. Fresh install of Ubuntu as of a few weeks ago. Fresh install of wine1.2 from package manager. Expecting to use the c:\windows\system32\relog.exe built-in windows utility to convert performance monitor counters from one format to another. wine relog.exe > output works OK. I can read the output. However, actually using the program relog.exe in production fails and crashes. If you press down the mouse button and drag the mouse, the expected output would be a line. Instead you get a dot, where you pressed the mouse and no line is drawn. Around every 10th time the drawing works normal (as long as you don't release the mouse button). Its not exactly every 10th time and the interval is random. I narrowed it down to the first wine version where it occurred. In 1.3.34 it works all fine, and from 1.3.35 till the current release candidate 1.4-rc5 it shows the same behavior. While you move the mouse, the navigation panel inside Photoshop shows the correct mouse positions, so it seems that the mouse coordinate is passed correctly to Photoshop. During the few times the line is drawn the coordinates in the navigation panel are refreshed quite slower. It once had a version for individual investors, but long ago. It still runs well on Win XP. An upgrade is not available. It also runs beautifully on Linux with wine, with one exception. When the program starts, a message pops up which says that a default printer for windows (not the program) has not been selected. A Printer Setup menu item produces the same message. Reports can NOT be generated (even on screen) because there is no recognized printer. The message never happened on Win XP. There is almost no information in the registry for Captools, either on XP or wine. With grep, there is no reference at all to any printer in any file in the program directory, either on XP or in wine. Debug tracing indicates that the CUPS printers are seen. They are properly in the registry. Printing with notebook in wine is perfect. It is also available in regedit. The hardware (2 computers) does not have LPT or COM ports, only USB connections to printers. I have no idea what the program is checking on startup, but something is needed to avoid the default printer message. A debug log is attached. Precondition: d2d1.dll, d3d10.dll, d3d10core.dll, d3d10_1.dll, dxgi.dll, wined3d.dll, libwine.dll should be compiled for Windows and pasted into \Windows\Sysem32 or to the application environment, real hardware with OpenGL support seems to be required. For keyboard and mouse input, WinUAE uses raw input if available, falling back to DirectInput otherwise. This bug only shows up when WinUAE is using DirectInput. Raw input was first working in Wine 1.5.16, so if using 1.5.16 or later, run WinUAE with the -norawinput argument. Pressing Caps Lock does not affect typed letters properly. For example, repeatedly mashing the d-f-g letters on the keyboard, and occasionally pressing Caps Lock might result in something like this (where [CL] denotes Caps Lock being pressed and released): gfd [CL] gfd [CL] gFDgFDgFD [CL] GFDGFDGFD [CL] GdGfDGfd [CL] gfdgdgfd [CL] gFDgdFgdF [CL] GDFGFDGFD [CL] GfdGfDGDf That should actually look like: gfd [CL] GFD [CL] gfdgfdgfd [CL] GFDGFDGFD [CL] gdgfdgfd [CL] GFDGDGFD [CL] gfdgdfgdf [CL] GDFGFDGFD [CL] gfdgfdgdf I tested using Wine 1.5.16 built from source on Lubuntu 11.10 x86-64. To reproduce: - Download and run the WinUAE installer. - You need to obtain an Amiga ROM image. Try googling for "kick12.rom" OR "kick13.rom" and you should find the required file easily. Download the file and copy to a directory accessible by Wine. - Run wine winuae.exe -norawinput - When the WinUAE Properties window appears, click ROM under Hardware in the tree-view at the left side. Click the "..." button to the right of "Main ROM file" and select the ROM image file. - Click Floppy drives under Hardware in the tree-view. Click the "..." button at the upper right of the window to select a floppy disk image. Select the test.adf file attached to this bug report. (That's a dummy/empty bootable disk; its only purpose is to leave you in a CLI window where you can type text.) - Click Start at the bottom of the window. The emulation will start. After a few seconds you should be presented with a CLI window. - While mashing various letter keys on the keyboard, press and release Caps Lock from time to time. Notice the issue described above. - You can quit WinUAE and run it again without the -norawinput argument.
