wined3d: Check the format block size before creating textures.
Sizes of textures and stand-alone surfaces must be multiples of the
format's block size for DXTN formats. Since we create a texture for
everything (except in ddraw), this check also takes care of stand-alone
surfaces.

what I'm trying to do is dump my 500GB HDD onto my 1TB HDD by opening the 500GB
in either HxD or HexEdit and saving it as a file on the 1TB.
HxD only sees my C drive and 5 logical disks (all reporting "Bad Device Type")
HexEdit sees my 500GB E drive, but needs administrative privileges to open it.
first place I looked up on google told me to report a bug...

My 500GB was corrupted by ChkDsk (every file is 0KB in size) (that's ~300GB of

I havn't touched it, so I know the data is still there, however, the drive
is/was compressed.
I want a raw image so I can format the drive and not have to worry about loss
of data. (as I can recover from the image)

I'm the author of airwave VST bridge (https://github.com/phantom-code/airwave).
My project is intended to use Windows VST plugins in Linux VST hosts (Bitwig
Studio, Ardour, etc). This task involves embedding the VST plugin window inside
of the VST host window (I use the XEMBED protocol to achieve this
functionality). The problem here is that after sending XEMBED_EMBEDDED_NOTIFY
message, the embedding window stays blank. I was able to workaround this issue
by inserting some delays
(https://github.com/phantom-code/airwave/blob/master/src/plugin/plugin.cpp#L…),
but this "solution" doesn't work in all cases. I've changed a few lines in
winex11.drv code (patch is attached) and it helped to solve the "blank window"
issue, but this is only a workaround (I don't know how to do a correct fix).
Anyway, increasing the size of embedded window will cause appearing of
additional blank regions.

Those duplicate buttons are working (in the same way as original) But when you
will close current project with help of them and create new one original
buttons will not be present, only duplicated.

On startup for this trace I've selected "DirectDraw HAL \ Microsoft Direct3D
RGB Software Emulation will be used", but it happens with "DirectDraw HAL \
WINE Direct3D7 Hardware acceleration using WineD3D will be used" and
"DirectDraw HAL \ WINE Direct3D7 Hardware Transform and Lightning acceleration
using WineD3D will be used", too.
I'm running wine on a 64bit (both kernel- and userspace) laptop with a GeForce
8600M GT and the open source nouveau graphics driver on a recent Debian sid,
with some i386 libraries to run the 32bit wine, obviously.
I'm using the latest, recently uploaded package in Debian sid: wine 1.4-6.

I was testing NFS Carbon because of another bug. And I used warn all debug.
While in game I noticed that I can't control the car with arrow keys.
This is not the only game I have this issue. Some splinter cell games, NFS, RAW
(wrestling game demo) and maybe some other have had similar issue, which has
mostly corrected by installing input overrides.
While debugging another error I found these lines:

BiuTicker list display (text drawn too deep)
When starting BiuTicker a list of stock chart properties is displayed.
In this list the text is displayed too deep. Only the top most scan line of
each character is visible, the rest is clipped away. See attachments.
My current error analysis:
Within DrawTextExW:
y-coordinates are negative
viewport coordinates are positive.
DT_NOCLIP is 0 (clipping active)
DT_SINGLELINE is 1
DT_VCENTER is 1 (Center text vertically)
According to these flags the y coordinate (of the bottom line) is calculated.
When calling ExtTextOutW the text alignment within the used DC is TA_TOP which
results in using the y coordinate as top line (instead of bottom line).
Forcing alignment to TA_BOTTOM before calling ExtTextOutW would display the
text right but has side effects on other DrawTextExW calls.

Manga Studio EX 3.0 wintab32 debug log
Running wine 1.1.5 in Ubuntu 8.04, my Wacom Bamboo One works perfectly under X
in programs like Gimp and Inkscape. With Wine, it also works perfectly with
ArtRage 2 Starters Edition.
But Manga Studio EX 3.0 (rated platinum in wine apps db) lacks pressure
sensitivity. Please find the attached debug logs from wintab32. I attached the
log from Manga Studio and from ArtRage (for comparison). Both logs have been
acquired by launching the program and try to draw a few lines with the pen.

Terminal output
Due to bug #31260 I tried the software mode of Tomb raider 4, hoping it would
yield a usable game. Sadly, it crashes.
The last two terminal lines leading up to the final crash line are possibly

I believe this is different from bug #39079, because the problem isn't present
in the demo version. It was one of the updates to the game (patch 1.6 or 1.7)
which "introduced" the problem under Wine.
World geometry (terrain rendering) is severely broken in many areas, most
noticeable in the vicinity of water and hills.
It's as if part of the terrain would be rendered higher or lower than the rest
of the world, but you should see the attached screenshot.
Disabling GLSL or reducing graphical details to the minimum doesn't help.
The problem is present with nouveau and nvidia blob 340.76 too.
Wine 1.4/1.6 also have the problem.

That's the EE.log for the Warframe launcher. Might help
I don't know if this is an issue caused by wine or by warframe itself but I

When Origin client finished with downloading the selected game, it
automatically installs the game. When installation is done Origin performs some
more actions which results in a crash:
wine: Call from 0x7b839b3c to unimplemented function
mf.dll.MFCreateMediaSession, aborting
Despite of the crash the game is installed properly and if you restart the
client, it marks the game as installed and ready to play.
Workaround to the crash: disable mf.dll in winecfg.
You can reproduce the problem if you have an Origin account: Origin always
offers one of EA's classics for free. Currently the free game is C&C: Red Alert
2:

I found some pretty old batch scripts I had laying around, so I decided to test
if wine could run them fine. I'm using latest version (1.7.42) as of this time,
on Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, and using the cmd.exe from a Windows XP SP2 old
installation media.
cmd has the ability to scan through files (and separating each line into
tokens) using the "FOR /F" method. For example, to reproduce this, create a
simple text file (test.txt) and put ascending numbers on each line (up to 16
for now):

Then use this command in the cmd.exe:
FOR /F "tokens=*" %A IN (test.txt) DO @echo %A
It SHOULD display all 16 lines in turn, but it's only displaying until 10. If
you take out the last two lines (15 and 16), then it will display ONLY until 5,
i.e:

4
5
This is a serious bug IF it is within wine because it obviously is something
that affects data integrity and not just a glitch.
I am positive that it replaces the last bytes of a file with some
junk/overflows or something like that (making it a security issue), which is
why it stops "early" since it finds a NULL character, and windows processor
stops at a null.
I'm sure of that because AkelPad 4.1.2 has a similar bug: there's non-sensical
binary data on every file you open with it! (i.e you open a file and re-save
it, and it's messed up at the end in the output...). But the latest version of
it, AkelPad 4.2.3, seems to not have this issue, which makes me think if it's
really a wine bug or not. I would still appreciate if you had a small look at
the file functions (and eof) though.
Note, I couldn't find out how to use wineconsole or wine's built-in cmd at all,
it doesn't seem to work at all with FOR /F or at least not in any way properly?
Unfortunately I can't attach a log or something since using the cmd.exe puts it
in the shell from where I invoke it... so wine's messages are not visible,
unless I am missing something?

D3DXMatrixTransformation test case - 22 failed tests
While trying to improve the speed of D3DXMatrixTransformation(), I found that
the calculation when using scalingrotation and scaling at the same time is
wrong.
The full formula is (according to msdn):
Mout = (Msc)-1 * (Msr)-1 * Ms * Msr * Msc * (Mrc)-1 * Mr * Mrc * Mt
while the failing part is:
(Msr)-1 * Ms * Msr
So this might not be the correct equivalent:

I'm trying run a VB6 app in wine, the problem happens when the VB6 app gets
data from a Sybase server and tries to round to 2 decimals the value "0.00"
(zero) from a field. I made a change in the
"wine_source/dlls/oleaut32/variant.c" file to show the value of many variables
and the output is the following:

As far as I see there are two types of doors in the game: the sturdy-looking
wooden/metal doors are rendered properly, but the doors which look like a grate
are invisible.
Easy to reproduce in the demo, when you start the Training mission you're
standing right in front of an invisible door. Press and hold <f> to highlight
usable objects like doors and you should see the yellow outlines of a door, but
the door itself is invisible.

There is a 20+ delay starting GOG Galaxy. Confirming with 1.8-rc1, I believe
this has always been the case and is not a regression.
Specifically, you see the following output repeat every second for 20 seconds:

properly.
2015-11-24 19:57:16 [galaxy_client][Information]: Exception during sending

During this time, nothing seems to be happening. Then immediately after waiting
those 20 seconds, the Galaxy client seems to give up and continue anyway.
That's when you can see HDD activity actually start to kick in.
I am attaching the first 21+ seconds of console output when launching the
client, up until past the point of the delay. Let me know if you would like me
to recapture using any debug flags.

Output of `bt all` when the problem happens
The program "Microworlds EX" hangs when I:
1) click on a toolbar button and hold the mouse button down,
2) move the mouse pointer anywhere outside the toolbar button, and then lift
the mouse button
To reproduce, install http://www.lcsi.ca/files/solutions/mwexdemo.exe, click
"Free mode" on the launcher, and then do the 2 steps mentioned above ^.
OS: Ubuntu Trusty 14.04
wine: 1.7.11-0ubuntu1~saucy1 (from wine PPA)
The issue happens with any Microworlds/Wine/Ubuntu versions we've tried, even
really old versions of them, and on whatever PCs.
In doesn't hang in any Windows versions that we've tried.

After starting The Bard's Tale (published in 2005 by inXile Entertainment) the
screen in the menus is way too dark, so you can see almost nothing, unless you
turn up the gamma of the screen. The animated hero is also missing on the left
side of the screen, when you choose to generate a new character.
The biggest problem that makes the game unplayable is when you start a new
game, almost the whole screen is black, only the mini-map is shown in the
upper-right corner, and the health bar in the upper-left corner. Besides only
subtitles are shown. Majority of the screen is pure black.
This bug affects at least the Steam version of the game, but according to AppDB
the retail (DVD version) is also affected:

I tried out several Wine versions but all of them showed the same issue,
including 1.1.0 which received Gold rating on AppDB.
However, the demo version of the game has no such issues: it displays
everything correctly, from the menus to the actual gameplay.
The only difference between the terminal output of the demo (working one) and
the retail version is the following line (repeated several times) when playing
the retail version:

According to the test results on AppDB, this game probably never worked in
Wine, yet, no one has reported the problem here. The problem can be reproduced
with the demo version as well, so I decided to file a bug report.
The game starts with a couple of intro videos, then comes a black screen with a
greyish loading bar at the bottom and the game freezes there. Wineserver and
secondsight.exe together are consuming 100% CPU power, so something is
happening 'under the hood', but the game never finishes loading.
Steps to reproduce the problem with the demo version:
1. create a new wineprefix
2. winetricks ie6
3. start the installed demo with secondsight.exe. In the launcher click <Start
Free Trial>, wait for the videos to end...the game is hanging with a black
screen after the videos.

When Evernote 5.9.x (e.g. the latest Evernote 5.9.1.8742) is started up, your
recently modified note (e.g. on another device) is being displayed. However,
when one tries to jump to some other note, by selecting an element on "All
notes" list, the content of the currently displayed note is not changed (only
note's header is being updated - information on note's creation date etc.)
Only when you double click on given note element from your notes list, a pop-up
window with that note's content/text shows up, but the note cannot be edited.
The last version of Evernote that hasn't got these problems was Evernote
5.8.13.8152.
Tested under Wine 1.7.50.

Terminal output for wine-1.4.1
I just downloaded AdbeRdr11002_en_US.exe from
http://get.adobe.com/br/reader/otherversions/
and when I tried to install the program on wine-1.4.1 (using Linux Mint 14
Nadia) with the command
$ wine AdbeRdr11002_en_US.exe &> log.txt
(and clicking "Next" in the GUI and then "Install"
I got a screen with the message
"Setup was interrupted before Adobe Reader XI (11.0.02) could be completely
installed"
and the software was not installed.
See the terminal output in the attachment.

Hello. I'm trying to play GunZ : The Duel.
Don't delete this bug because you think it's game related. It is not.
Why? Everyone got the game working. Except me.
I tried reinstalling the whole system and it crashed on a fresh install too.
I tried on my brother's computer and it worked without any problem.
All this make me think it's a hardware related problem but I need your help to
determine which of my hardware is causing trouble.
I explained my problem on GunZ page on Winedb:

I hope you will find a fix, GunZ is the last game that makes deleting windows

A GameOverlayRenderer log
The GameOverlayUI.exe and GameOverlayRenderer.dll (Steam in-game friends
interface) crashes on start. I attach a log created by the Steam.exe . The file
refers to GameOverlayRenderer.dll and this log attach that the dlls or exe wich
fails are:

2. download Fetion from

Then the program would show a dialog.
Brief Translation:
"The Version of your OS is too old. Please use an OS whose virsion is higher
than Win 2000 SP4 or Win XP SP2. Will you continue anyway?"
I chose yes, and the installation *seemed* to finish successfully.
BTW, It seems that this program has more than one bug.

While debugging a focus management issue, I found that Wine creates an odd
arrangement of WM_TRANSIENT_FOR windows. I assume this is the behavior of the
Windows app.
It's reproducible with the first screen of this installer:

Wine is creating three windows: the actual installer window (A), a secondary
window (B) as its owner, and a third window (C), invisible owner as B's owner.
The issue is that while A and C are mapped, the intermediate window, B, is not,
and thus the WM_TRANSIENT_FOR is invalid and ignored by window managers. This
has the when activating the invisible owner C from the taskbar or similar, A is
not raised.

Problems to display status bar correctly.
After bug 9917 got fixed, the NES emulator Nestopia
(http://nestopia.sourceforge.net), D3D9 application, correctly shows the top
menu. Horever, the behavior of the status bar is still not right, disappearing
or partially displayed sometimes (eg: when switching from File to Machine
menu).
If I alternate between windows and the Nestopia window stay behind other apps,
then when I switch back to Nestopia the status bar reappears. If I minimize
Nestopia window, then restore it to its previous size, the entire window
doesn't redraw itself anymore and the menu becomes inaccessible, but I'm able
to close the app normally.
Roderick Colenbrander said at comment 8 of bug 9917: "Alexandre said that most
of the time the status bar is a child window, so it isn't this bug. Personally
I think it is likely some d3d child window bug".
So, I'm reporting this bug against component directx-d3d. I am really not
worried about this app in particular, but about other apps that may suffer
these issues.

The installer/launcher requests that Mono is installed. When this is done with
winetricks, it appears to work fine.
The launcher then patches the game (about 8 GB of downloading at the moment)
and tries to launch it. The splash screen shows up, the screen resolution
changes, but then the game crashes.
The terminal output is attached, plus the following text is shown in a dialogue
box on screen:

The "SBSDisabled" -> "Install=1" key prevents this.
There are many MS KB and blog entries about .NET installers/updates refusing to
install/uninstall in certain combinations so this might be even a limitation on
Windows.
Though installing
.NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on top of .NET Framework 2.0
.NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on top of .NET Framework 3.5
works.
The installation can be forced by removing the key:

Using the .NET Framework Setup Verification Tool from Aaron Stebner (Microsoft)
which checks for proper installation of .NET assemblies and registry entries
one can indeed see the forced installation of SP2 on top of SP1 was not proper:
the test application crashes.

.NET 2.0 SP1 and .NET 2.0 SP2 are validated successfully with the tool if they
are installed independently on top of .NET 2.0
So this installer block might be really a valid limitation.
Maybe someone with a pristine Windows 2000/XP install (no .NET service packs)
could try to install this combination: 2.0 SP1 + 2.0 SP2 and check if it
exhibits the same error.

Prerequisite: 'winetricks -q mfc42'
Any menu item which opens a dialog window leads to loss of mouse control.
There is some "fog" graphics effect covering the whole app user interface
during that time, including the newly created dialog window.
The keyboard still has focus which allows to navigate and close the dialog
eventually, restoring the mouse behaviour to usable state.

A solution to prevent this race is to move the asynchronous execution of
'winemenubuilder' after the prefix update (which runs synchronously).
This also avoids the situation where 'winemenubuilder' manages to extract
potentially outdated icon resources before the placeholders are overwritten by
newer versions with different icons.

I'd rather split the bug entries for "Die Völker / The Alien Nations" and
Motocross Madness 2, bug 17836, comment 3, to warrant each application its own.
Although the common cause is stubbed functionality in amstream, these apps
might be fixed independently.
At start, The Alien Nations tries to display two Intel Indeo videos, somewhat
differently. Unimplemented functionality in amstream and the app's not checking
for some return codes yields to an exception and crash. More specifically,
GetFormat() is expected to fill in a DDSURFACEDESC structure, which wine leaves
uninitialised, causing the application to use random uninitialised data.
The first crash is prevented by having GetFormat() in
dlls/amstream/mediastream.c fill in the dwWidth and dwHeight fields of the
DDSURFACEDESC structure (I used 1 as stub value). The code used seems similar
to that of
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms787928(VS.85).aspx
except the app doesn't check the return code of GetFormat and hence proceeds
with uninitialised memory from these two fields.
These two values are not enough to avoid a crash when displaying the second
video. As the logs http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=20129 in bug 17836,
comment 4 suggest, the app presumably reads more fields from GetFormat: Z
buffer depth and pixelformat, and passes that to ddraw.
Actually, whether the app crashes there depends on WINEDEBUG settings, as the
initialisation of the stack-based DDSURFACEDESC depends on former stack use.
I've been able to play the game using
WINEDEBUG=+all,-syslevel,-fixup,-dbghelp_dwarf,-heap,warn+heap,-gdi
I yet have to disassemble and see which other fields from DDSURFACEDESC are
used in the second case.
BTW, one needs to work past bug #15915 in order to see this crash in "Alien
Nations", which is a blocker for this issue. I did it by quickly hacking the
fourcc comparison test in iccvid.c.
There exists a demo for this application, but demos typically display no intro
videos, so I doubt it would exhibit this bug.

the windows error displayed when game crashes
The game Klingon honor Guard will crash when it tries to play the ingame
videos. This should be the last bug before the game would be platinum as using
the nocd patch allows one to play through the whole game.
This won't work with the demo as it has none. This bug only affects the retail
version, I'd be happey to send it to anyone if needed.
This doesn't seem to be a cd checking bug as the game askes for the cd one
screen before and it works. Playing multiplayer also requires the cd to be in
the drive and that works just fine.
The 'play' cd simply contains avi videos and can be played in Mplayer.
i did this in win 98 mode as that mode best supports the game.
To reproduce.
Install game.
Apply 1.1 patch.
Start new game.

However it's also possible that the bug is in the previous patch as both
functions are used in the test and it's possible that implementing
BasePinImp_GetMediaType() caused BasePinImpl_CheckMediaType() to be called, or
that the bug is in fact in EnumMediaTypes_Construct() (from strmbase).
I tried to figure out the source for the bug but did not get anywhere. What I
gathered is that:
* It looks like a stack corruption issue. Adding traces in the test executable
can make the crash go away and I seem to have more luck reproducing the issue
using the PE test executable.
* A backtrace shows the crash happening in CopyMediaType() (called by
EnumMediaTypes_Construct() from strmbase) due to an insane size for
pSrc->cbFormat.

This bug was never fixed and should be re-opened. This bug is related to the
amstream DirectShow Filter. Using the Demo Version is not a sufficient test as
the Demo version does not use the amstream codec filter. This bug is extremely
severe, and needs to be re-opened.
Any and all tests for this bug must be done with the retail versions of this
game, the Demo version does not use amstream in such a way to cause this bug.

+amstream log with crash
LEGO Rock Raiders crashes when trying to play the "LEGO Media" splash video.
+amstream log included. I don't think that this game has a demo. One needs a
nocd crack to bypass safedisc and a native d3drm.dll to avoid a crash if they
want to run the game.

everything builtin
with builtin amstream.dll, sierra's SWAT 3 version 2.1 shows a messagebox
saying it needs directx at least version 6.1 to run and then it quits.
with windows xp native amstream, it dies further down the road

Potentially workaround 27628 (winetricks -q d3dx9_36, or don't remove the
native dll).
Start the app, choose new game, choose the only campaign option. Choose any
country (tried UK and Russia).
The game will either immediately exit, or maybe pop up a map and an error
dialog. Nothing shows in the terminal. Looking at the game's log, I see:

Currently when a CreateFile() is done the IRP_MJ_CREATE dispatch routine is not
called ! This is a major oversight and caused the v4.00 SIVDRIVER to crash.
For 4.01 I worked around this, but failing to call the driver when the
CreateFile() is done is a major failing and needs to be corrected. The
IRP_MJ_CLOSE routine also needs to get called for the CloseHandle().

wine-1.5.15 terminal output in full screen mode
DirectDrawRenderer=opengl became the default some time ago.
As of 1.5.15, Little Big Adventure 2 aka. LBA2 displays a black screen above a
diagonal from bottom left to upper right across its 640x480 virtual desktop.

The black diagonal persists across all menus, intro videos and game play.
Moving the virtual desktop around you momentarily unhides the missing half
screen.
Reopened bug #23921 is about using DirectDrawRenderer=gdi

Does OpenGL decompose the rectangular window into two triangles?

fifaconfig.exe - FIFA 11 config app written in .net (see link for get demo).
When Wine uses Mono 2.6, I can`t save any settings using this app: it crashes.
But a bug http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24428 is not present on Mono.

Monkey Island 3 works pretty slow with Wine 1.1.0.
It happens only in complex locations, where there is a waterfall etc.
COMI works very slow, even on my Core2Duo 2.53 GHZ (which is pretty good for
that game I think).
The strange thing is, when the screen is scrolling (eg. the character moves to
the other part of the scene and the scene is scrolling) it work properly. When
the scene is static (eg. no scrolling, only animated parts like waterfall or
rain etc) it works very bad.
In this demo you can see this when you are shooting with the cannon. A part of
walkthrough (on how to get to the cannon):
After the intro you'll find yourself captive in LeChuck's ship. Start talking
to the small pirate and you'll realize that it's your old friend Wally. Make
him see that he is no good as a pirate and he will soon drop his hook and
start crying. Pick up the plastic hook from the floor and pick up the ramrod
from the wall. Use the cannon and sink the four boats full of skeletons.
