Summary: Cakewalk Sonar X1 amplitude meter bars rendered too
large, cut off
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.6
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: gdiplus
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
Classification: Unclassified
The narrow vertical graph bar thingies next to the slider controls
when you open a project display much too tall and shaggy.
'winetricks gdiplus' works around this.
The difference is pretty obvious.
To repeat:
rm -rf .wine
winetricks mfc42
wine SONAR_X1_Trial.exe
cd ~/".wine/drive_c/Program Files/Cakewalk/SONAR X1 Producer Trial"
wine SONARPDR.exe
click New Project
notice ugly bits
quit
Then do 'winetricks gdiplus', restart app, and notice beautiful bar graphs.

Summary: UTF-8 Conversion Error
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: cupp(a)computer.org
Classification: Unclassified
Attempts to launch TextPad results in a pop up error reporting: UTF-8
Conversion Error.
Result is that TextPad does not launch normally since it cannot open the stored
configuration file. Work around -- open the folder and remove the
configuration file. Then TextPad launches.
However, because of this error, the program cannot be registered (you are
running a "trial copy") and you must delete the configuration file each time
the application is launched.
History: I have been running TextPad (now on version 6.22) under WINE for a
long time. Recently, through yum update WINE advanced to WINE 1.5.29 (I think
the previous version was WINE 1.5.25). Both before and after the update,
TextPad worked. However, with WINE 1.5.29 another application I use no longer
functioned.
I was able to roll back to WINE 1.5.2 and the other application works. Now,
however, TextPad has this UTF-8 Conversion error. (I can't find any other
applications that exhibit this problem.) Possibly a newer version of WINE
would work but I don't know.

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

I’m experiencing problems when using the neo2 keyboard-layout (shipped with
most current Linux distributions afaik).
This keyboard layout puts the arrow keys and some other functional keys on
letters (accessible in combination with a certain Mod key). See
http://neo-layout.org/grafik/tastatur3d/hauptfeld/tastatur_neo_Ebene3.png
However, using wine applications, the arrow keys stop working. Furthermore,
Wine is not showing any debug messages, it just ignores the key strokes.
Please correct it if this is not a wineserver related bug. I was guessing. :-)

We use an enterprise reporting solution. I have been running it successfully
with Wine for some time. However, when I run the latest version, it doesn't
work. I see the following error messages displayed in the terminal:
err:module:import_dll Library BTHPROPS.DLL (which is needed by
L"Z:\\tmp\\reportClient.exe") not found
err:module:import_dll Library BLUETOOTHAPIS.DLL (which is needed by
L"Z:\\tmp\\reportClient.exe") not found
When I searched for more information about these error messages, I see that
there are other users having issues with these two libraries.
I did locate a successful workaround for this problem. A user of an
application named FileOptimizer discovered it:
Quote:
Here's how I did it: I found the smallest DLL inside the FileOptimizer Plugins
folder, which happened zlib.dll. I copied that file twice to the main
FileOptimizer folder, renaming one of them to bthprops.dll and the other one to
blutoothapis.dll. (They had to be lowercase.)
The discussion URL is
http://sourceforge.net/p/nikkhokkho/discussion/fileoptimizer/thread/3127cff…
I looked for DLLs in my .wine folder but when I tried to use them in the manner
described above, they had dependency issues. So, I ended up downloading
FileOptimizer and extracting zlib.dll. This seems to be working fine.

Small patch
When connecting to a server via https, we are prompted that the certificate

We are prompted to Accept this error, after we do, the connection fails because
the certificate isn't valid.
The attached patch, even though not exactly correct, pin points the location of
failure.
On Windows, we get the prompt, but once we accept the certificate, it connects
without error.

It runs and renders fine using Mesa 9.2 on a Sandy Bridge HD3000, albeit a
litte slow at times. I decided to give it a try on my nVidia Optimus GPU
(GeForce 610M) using bumblebee/primusrun, and while the game runs smooth and
it's playable, the colors render wrongly, they look way too washed - only the
character outlines are rendered properly (the game uses a sort of toon shader),
the attached screenshot shows the problem. Also, I can see these lines logged
in my console (repated several times):
err:d3d:wined3d_debug_callback 0x19e0c8: "GL_INVALID_VALUE error generated.

Sometimes when there are screen flashes in-game, the correct colors do get
rendered briefly, for a split second, then they "wash away" back.
(The game requires native quartz.dll/devenum.dll, but that's a well known issue
with a lot of Japanese games, and would be material for another bug report)

An application in which this happens is

Also, it seems that Software\\Wine\\Fonts\\External Fonts gets updated every
time wine is run, so I can't even change the order there. Apart from unmapping
the font directories there seems to be no solution.

On the third page, I reduced the size of an image from 6" to 5.08" and it
scales the width as necessary. However, the image attributes for the image are
still set to 5.08" as the height but is shown as a dot.
If you try to resize the dot using the mouse, the screen turns grey (as it
should) but the image is not resized, the grey screen does not go away, and you
are allowed to scroll up and down the document and the image is still in the
corner of the screen and refuses to move.
The only way to resize this image back to normal is to change the height or
width setting but it will not work using the mouse.

Summary: Trash appears in WinUAE window when another window is
dragged on top of it
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc2
Platform: x86
URL: http://www.winuae.net/files/InstallWinUAE1610.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
Older versions of the WinUAE Amiga emulator show a small problem with Direct3D
output. The problem is not present when WinUAE is set to use OpenGL output.
(The current version 2.1.0 of WinUAE does not show this problem. Graphics
handling was reworked in later versions; maybe 2.1.0 uses DirectX 9 calls vs
DirectX 8 or lower for earlier versions?)
When the emulation is paused, dragging another window over the emulation window
trashes the contents of the emulation window. This effect is only visible when
the emulation is paused; otherwise the emulation window is rewritten many times
per second.
Typical usage of WinUAE involves obtaining an Amiga ROM image file. Google for
kick12.rom if you need to...
- Download WinUAE 1.6.1 from http://www.winuae.net/. Direct URL for the
installer is http://www.winuae.net/files/InstallWinUAE1610.exe
- Run the installer.
- Start WinUAE. The settings window appears. Click ROM under Settings->Hardware
and select kick12.rom for the Main ROM file.
- Click Filter under Settings->Host and select Direct3D from the drop-down box.
- Click Start to start emulation and wait for some graphics to appear in the
emulation window. The "Workbench hand" appears on a white background.
- Press F12 to bring up the settings window. This pauses the emulation.
- Drag the settings window (or any other window) over the emulation window.
Notice how the emulation window contents are corrupted. Also notice that if you
activate another window, the emulation window contents are refreshed/redrawn.
- Click in the emulation window and press F12 (to work around Wine bug 10643).
Change the filter from Direct3D to OpenGL in the settings window then click OK
to continue the emulation.
- Press F12 again and drag the settings window over the emulation window.
Notice that this time there is no trashing/corruption.
- To quit, click in the emulation window and press F12, then click Quit.

Bug #: 30821
Summary: braid: turning AlwaysOffscreen on results in severe
FPS drop
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.5
Platform: x86
URL: steam://install/26810
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mooroon2(a)mail.ru
CC: hverbeet(a)gmail.com, stefan(a)codeweavers.com
Classification: Unclassified
Demo version of the game is also affected (may be downloaded free-of-charge on
Steam; it is also available for direct download in a number of places, for
example here: http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/04/10/download-braid-demo/ ).
Reproducing this bug with the demo version is somewhat hard as its built-in
resolution validator fails to start the game up in fullscreen mode using higher
resolutions (1680x1050, 1920x1050, 1920x1200) resulting the game starting up in
1280x1024 mode. FPS drop in low resolutions could be observed as well, but it's
not that noticeable due to games built-in FPS limiter that caps FPS at 60.
Bug summary pretty much describes the problem: on my PC there is a non-minor
performance drop in Braid when I edit registry and set "AlwaysOffscreen" to be
"enabled". My PC is equipped with AMD FX 8120 CPU, 8GB of RAM and GeForce GTX
550 Ti GPU with 1GB VRAM, so it's not hardware that is incapable of handling
the game well, it is a bug in Wine (or in GPU drivers) that causes huge FPS
drop when offscreen FBO's are being used as a main render target.
Game has built-in FPS limiter which is usually set to 60 FPS (can be forced to
always be 60 FPS using command line parameter) thus it is hard to tell what
could the FPS be whith ao=disabled, but as least it stays at stable 60 FPS no
matter the resolution I use (tested up to 1920x1200 for "fullscreen" mode).
With ao=enabled I've got FPS dropped down to around 25-30 for fullscreen
1680x1050 and down to around 20-25 for fullscreen 1920x1200. With "windowed"
mode things are a little bit strange: in case ao=disabled and I start the game
up in 1680x1050 windowed mode - FPS is ~30, but if I switch the game into
fullscreen mode and then back to windowed mode by pressing ALT+ENTER twice -
FPS increases up to 60 (i.e. to the cap level) and stays there no matter how
much times I switch between fullscreen and windowed modes by pressing
ALT+ENTER.
Long things short: higher resolutions like 1680x1050+ plus ao=enabled always
results in too low FPS for game to be playable; ao=disabled plus higher
resolutions plus the game started up in fullscreen mode results in playable FPS
capped to 60 by built-in in-game FPS limiter.
============ Start of "How to reproduce" section ==============
a) Create a new Wine prefix, install native d3dx9_39 or d3dx9_36 into it as
Braid crashes with Wine's implementation of this lib.
b) Configure prefix to use virtual desktop sized 1680x1050. This step is
optional but it is convenient in case you have multi-monitor setup and don't
want Wine to mess up your desktop resolution.
c) Start the game up with the command line like this:
# wine [path to game install folder]\braid.exe -width 1680 -height 1050 -60fps
-no_vsync
d) As soon as game start up and displays staring location - press "0" on your
keyboard. It would activete in-game FPS counter. Notice that the resulting FPS
is capped at around 60 with the default prefix registry settings.
e) Quit the game and edit the registry to set "AlwaysOffscreen" into "enabled".
Start up the game once again with the same command line, activate FPS counter
and notice that this time FPS is around 30. Try moving your character and
notice that it moves way slowly than it should.
f) Quit the game, edit the registry once again to set ao=disabled. Start up the
game again and make sure FPS is back to normal (capped at 60). Quit the game
and re-start it using following command line:
# wine [path to game install folder]\braid.exe -width 1680 -height 1050 -60fps
-no_vsync -windowed
Activate FPS counter and notice that FPS is again way lower than it should be,
around ~30. Press ALT+ENTER to switch the game into fullscreen mode. Notice
that the FPS is back to being capped at around 60. Press ALT+ENTER once again
to switch the game back into using windowed mode. Notice that the FPS remains
what is should capped at around 60.
============ End of "How to reproduce" section ==============
This bug isn't "major" ATM as default prefix settings do not trigger low FPS in
this game, but it would change as soon as AlwaysOffscreen rendering mode would
be switched to be default in Wine - and I've seen discussions on wine-devel
about making it default in near future.
I have no idea if it is an expected for FPS to drop from "more than 60" down to
"around 25-30" for AO render mode but if that's the case it should be
considered not to make it default in near future. On the other hand, if it's
the problem in current wined3d implementation - it should be addressed. If this
one is a GPU dirvers bug - it would be better for up all to isolate it and
report no nVIDIA.
P.S. Had tested for this bug to happen with several nVIDIA GPU drivers
versions, starting from stable 275.09.07 and up to beta 302.11. Bug happen in
all tested versions.

It's difficult to explain, but basically after certain events occur while using
this program, a weird graphical glitch may occur for about half a second, and
then YVD will stop responding completely. It's not exactly frozen, because
frozen programs will turn grey, but it doesn't respond to any sort of mouse
click, button press, or any other form of input. The process for YVD is listed
as Sleeping when I check it in the System Monitor, and the only way to close
YVD when this happens is to use End Process.
The only "certain event" that I've been able to determine so far is continuing
to use the program after dueling the same person three times, using the "Soft"
Reset command under the File menu on the duel screen in between each duel. If
you continue to use YVD by using "Soft" Reset or Reset Game (also under the
File menu), YVD will stop responding after some random period of time passes,
although it has always never been under 5 minutes for me so far.

Summary: Problem with dotnet35sp1 and Sony Vegas 11
Product: Wine
Version: 1.6
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

Hi,
I've got a problem in Sony Vegas 11. When I click on "Render", I get this error
message:
"An error occured while creating the media file .
Exception thrown by method called"
I tried it in Windows too. Everything works fine there, but when I uninstalled
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1, after this there was same error in
Sony Vegas 11.
So it's some problem of function dotnet35sp1 in Wine. But in terminal is only
this error:
fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse L"Sony.Vegas.RenderAs"
fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse L"Sony.Vegas.RenderAs.resources"
fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse L"Sony.Vegas.RenderAs.resources"
Solution for Windows is for example here
https://www.custcenter.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5147 but it's cannot use it
in Wine.
So how to solve it?
Please, let me know, if you need more informations. Thanks!

I think this game may be playable if the the proper workarounds can be found.

Dragon Naturally Speaking 13.0 is the current version of the product. It
installs and runs pretty well, provided that the user set the winecfg to a
newer version of Windows, installs dotnet40, and copies over an earlier
training profile from 12.5 version.
However, it will not train a new user.
The training process (I think) relies on dotnet40.
Since 12.5 ran pretty much flawlessly, I'm guessing that the program has an
increased reliance on dotnet40, and probably some function is missing.
??
I'm on Debian Sid / wine-development 1.7.45.
Want me to run anything?
Once everything is working, it is working GREAT.

This is a minor nuisance really but certain compression tools don't know the
difference between kB and kiB. When attaching large, compressed log files split
into sets they can easily make the individual files too big by 24 k(i)B.
The minor adjustment would make life that little bit easier, and won't
significantly affect file sizes or data transfer.
I'm assuming this can be easily changed by an admin.
Ubuntu's File Roller is an example.

Every now and then some bug reporters report a Wine bug that omits basic
information such as the version of wine being used, instead it is set to
unspecified.
It could be useful to remind people who try to submit the form with the version
set to unspecified by issuing an one time alert that they should set the value
to their current wine version.
A similar thing could be done for the URL field where people could be reminded
to link to a download of the affected application.
I acknowledge that there are other bugs where 'unspecified' may make sense, but
they are not as frequent so the impact should be low.
If the length of the input in the Description box can be taken with JavaScript,
perhaps that could be checked against a commonly large length where people have
pasted logs and a warning issued also.

Summary: GTA: San Andreas - Ambient Sounds are too quiet (EAX)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.2
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ch.nolte(a)noltec.org
In GTA San Andreas which uses EAX the ambient sound (e.g. from cars etc.) is
too quiet in respect to other sounds in the game (e.g. dialog in cut-scenes).
GTASA has no option to disable EAX.
This problem can be solved for this game, when the "normal" processing mode
within dsound.dll is disabled. This can only be done via code (patch is going
to be attached). This is only a workaround which disables dsound3d completely.
I suppose that there are problems in the distance calculation algorithm in
dsound/sound3d.c and possibly in combination with apps using EAX.
BTW: Replacing eax.dll with other dlls from the web does not work. Also, please
see the comments in appdb:

Yes, I know that's a lot of work and may not be feasible. But it needs to be
considered.
Ordinary users depend on binary packages, and without real Wine packages
available, are forced to use third party versions that do provide them, whether
they want to or not. Debian never provided them reliably, Fedora stopped last
year, and this year Ubuntu has relegated Wine package-building to every few
months. That's the majority of our users.

I use wine with few patches, and now i'm forced to use multiarch, so this bug
is really dealbreaker for me.
Few months ago, i tried to get rid of ia32* and lib32* packages on my system
and use purely multiarch environment. I failed exactly on this step (after
successfully overcoming few lesser difficulties with dependencies of other
required packages). IIRC it's related to peculiar system used to
detect/configure freetype via some binary. I tried to work it around by
modifying autoconfig/config files, but it didn't work in any case. I don't
remember exact data on it, will try this weekend and post it here.

After closing the application (Heroes of the Storm, patch 13.0.37117), it will
throw up a fatal error. The application itself does, not Wine. However, prior
to this latest Heroes of the Storm patch it did not throw up this error and as
far as I can tell, it does not generate this error in Windows.
Wine: 1.7.49
I also tested it with a fresh wine prefix, to rule out any issues from dll
overrides. This did not solve the issue.
While running the application, it behaves as before. It is just when closing
the application that it throws up this error. The error message itself is just
"Fatal exception occured" with a typical Blizzard exception handler error code
but that is probably less than useful information, since it is being run in
Wine and the error it generates assumes Windows.

Minimizing sequence windows inside main program window leave garbaged icons
upon the bottom line making hard to rise them back, specially when more than
one window is minimized. Also the icons cannot be double-clicked having to use
the contextual menu.

This requires winetricks ie6 to work around bug 14343.
Nothing visible happens when the Buried in Time demo is started. Two
BuriedInTime.exe processes and one Unpack.exe process is created, and between
them they use 100% of 1 CPU.
Oddly, running Unpack.exe manually from the program directory seems to work
properly, and once it is run the game starts. Apparently, there's a problem
with the way the game invokes this program.

The console output has some d3dx9 fixme's, but it's not obvious to me which is
important. Native d3dx9 works around the crash and allows the program to start.
The crash is in heap code (the application has its own crash handler that
prevents a backtrace except when run in winedbg). Setting WINEDEBUG=warn+heap
changes it to a page fault from the program accessing 0xfeeefee8.

This bug applies to Microsoft Software Jukebox, a DVD-ROM containing several
games which can be unlocked after payment.
Jukebox.exe runs when you insert the disc. With Wine however, Jukebox.exe just
shows a message box:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later is required to run the Jukebox.
Retrying after doing "winetricks ie6" didn't improve things.
I got a WINEDEBUG=+all trace, and the part before the message box showed this:

Starting from wine 1.7.22, Myst III: Exile doesn't work anymore.

The problem seems to be introduced with the changes in ddraw as replacing

The configure script does not find the ncurses includes and libraries, although
they are installed. This happens because the script simply checks for
ncurses.h, while it stays in ncurses/ncurses.h in my system.
Instead of doing this "raw" test, configure must use pkgconfig for checking the
presence of ncurses and getting its CFLAGS and LIBS options.
The "raw" test could be eventually left as last resort, if pkgconfig won't
provide the package.

This problem was already corrected probably in Wine version 1.0.1 according to
Roland Haeder. It has been around at least in 1.1.31 and 1.1.32.
When launching Sof2mp.exe, "Loading..."-text appears normally, but when
entering the menu, text flashes once, but won't go away. Menu is still working:
music is hearable, mouse movements can be heard, etc.
What has been tested:
- Using a Virtual Desktop. (Has worked earlier (1.0.1 case).)
Thought of a possible temporary workaround:
- Playing the intro movies before the menu (if possible). In single player
mode, menus do work, though disabling the movies haven't been tested yet.

The game starts and runs properly except for one thing: there is a crash after

Installing native msctf.dll via winetricks works around the crash.

Starting the game with
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dpnet=n" wine MC2Rel.exe -window /gosnoblade /gosusehw
it will display many
FAILED (0x8878001e - DSERR_CONTROLUNAVAIL) - SetPan(0x8fa89a0: 0)
errors. These errors occur each time a sound notification or similar (e.g.
hovering the mouse over a button in the menu or firing a weapon inside the
game) is played.
The reason is the function
IDirectSoundBufferImpl_SetPan
inside buffer.c from dsound dll.
The following code is the reason:
/* You cannot use both pan and 3D controls */
if (!(This->dsbd.dwFlags & DSBCAPS_CTRLPAN) ||
(This->dsbd.dwFlags & DSBCAPS_CTRL3D)) {
WARN("control unavailable\n");
return DSERR_CONTROLUNAVAIL;
}
Is the logic here correct?
Shouldn't "if(!A || B)" really be if(!(A || B)) ?
However the comment "You cannot use both pan and 3D controls" doesn't make any
sense in both cases, I think.
If I change it accordingly, it will work (not display these errors any more):
/* You cannot use both pan and 3D controls */
if (!((This->dsbd.dwFlags & DSBCAPS_CTRLPAN) ||
(This->dsbd.dwFlags & DSBCAPS_CTRL3D))) {
WARN("control unavailable\n");
return DSERR_CONTROLUNAVAIL;
}
Changing it according to the comment to if(A && B) doesn't work.
I hope I provided enough information. I don't really know what I did there.

Thank you for working on Wine. I love the fact that Wine occasionally works
better (much faster and yet accurate rendering) for legacy Windows XP
applications than newer Windows versions!
For example, here is a legacy CAD application which is easy to install and run
in Wine, but which is very GDI intensive. As such, it is a good test for GDI
speed issues. When you open a complex CAD file, this app runs nicely in Windows
XP, but 5x or 10x slower in Windows Vista and later. Fortunately, it runs at
least the same or faster in Wine than it does in WinXP!
In fact, I guess I run this app half the time just to see how and if Wine is
working.
The application in question is PCB123 v2.1.0.7000, you can search for it online
or get the 7MB installer here. It always installs easily and works well in
Wine:
pcb123installer.exe (v2.1.0.7000, ~7MB):
https://stanford.box.com/s/69ijfwjf7qc95bq6bh2m
I purposely use this older version of PCB123 because, compared to versions that
came later, it has significantly faster display rendering performance with
complex PCB designs, such as this one, which I made:
PCB123-v2-complex-testfile.123, ~800kB:
https://stanford.box.com/s/3kmfcif91c1e909ak7jc
If you open this *.123 PCB design file and turn the mousewheel to zoom in or
out, it triggers a complete screen redraw. A screen redraw can take from one to
five seconds on sub-optimal software (Windows Vista/7/8, newest Wine), but
should take only a fraction of a second with good software (Windows XP, earlier
Wine).
If the scree re-draw takes too long, you can hide the filled copper planes of
the PCB. This speeds up redraws significantly, but the general issue (rendering
is now slower than it used to be, decreasing productivity) remains:
PCB123-v2-complex-testfile-nofill.123, ~800kB:
https://stanford.box.com/s/08zamniq0gx3imlwhi76
This software was originally released in the Windows XP years. It ran much
worse on Windows 7. It ran super-fast on Wine, regardless of hardware and/or
Linux version, I believe. Over time, I ran this software under Wine on a few
different Linux distros (Fedora, Mint, Ubuntu), and different hardware (older
Thinkpad with slow IGP, newer desktop with GTX660), the results were always
great under Linux+Wine, and much poorer under Windows 7.
Most recently, I had it running smoothly on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, probably with
Nvidia binary driver 319 and whatever Wine version was up to date.
Then, about three days ago, I let Ubuntu proceed with the upgrade to 14.04 LTS.
Initially, PCB123 worked quickly, but then another set of Ubuntu 14.04 updates
came in, probably including the Nvidia driver update v331. Somehow this
un-installed Wine, and I couldn't re-install it - same issue as described here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/449507/nvidia-libopencl1-331-has-to-be-remov…
Following the instructions on that page, I then did this:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-cuda-toolkit #Need to get 250 MB of archives; 774
MB of additional disk space will be used
sudo apt-get install ocl-icd-opencl-dev #this will remove nvidia-libopencl1-*
and nvidia-opencl-dev
sudo apt-get install wine #Need to get 121 MB; 342 MB of additional disk space
will be used.
Then I reinstalled Wine successfully, but then somehow the display performance
of PCB123 got much, much slower. I estimate the screen redraw speed is now at
least 20x to 50x slower than it used to be.
I am now trying to roll back the Nvidia drivers, the Wine versions, and so
forth, to narrow down where the problem lies. No luck so far, PCB123 remains
slow. I may even try to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS again just to see if this
fixes it. Any advice on how I can force different versions of Wine or relevant
DLLs for testing?
Any tips on how I can support fixing this issue?
Best regards,
Sebastian

In ffdshow's audio/video configuration window you can choose which decoder you
want to use for different A/V formats.
A drop-down menu should appear automatically when you select a decoder for the
desired format.
The menu doesn't appear in current Wine.
Actually, there is a way to make the menu appear: press and hold left mouse
button on the selected field (under Decoder tab). While LMB is still pressed,
move the mouse up or down by a couple of pixels.
Workaround: native comctl32.

Hi all,
there's a typo in the man page (at http://www.winehq.org/docs/wine and "man
wine" from wine-1.6.1):
[QUOTE]
For running CUI executables (Windows console programs), use wineconsole
instead of wine. This will display all the output in a separate
windows (this requires X11 to run). Not using wineconsole for CUI
programs
will only provide very limited console support, and your program might
not function properly.
[QUOTE]
"in a separate windows" should be "in a separate window".

If this picture is opened in MS Paint in WinXp, the transparent portions become
black. In older wine versions behave the same way (therefore do it correctly).
In wine 1.6-rc5 it's ruined.
In Wine 1.6-rc5, Windows XP MS Paint messes up some images with transparency.
In previous versions of Wine, it behaves correctly (meaning, same behavior as
running MS Paint on WinXP) by showing the transparent color as black.

Bug #: 32621
Summary: Mouse pointer jumps on opening/closing WinUAE settings
window
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.20
Platform: x86-64
URL: http://www.winuae.net/files/InstallWinUAE2510.exe
OS/Version: Windows
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
Classification: Unclassified
Testing with wine-1.5.20-22-ga701528 on Lubuntu 11.10 x86-64.
There is an issue with bogus mouse movement which shows up with the WinUAE
Amiga emulator. This seems to be a regression somewhere between
wine-1.5.17-252-g8ba4c31 and wine-1.5.17-270-ga0f039a.
WinUAE captures the mouse when emulation is running. The Windows mouse pointer
is made invisible and mouse movement is passed through to the emulated machine.
With emulation running, press F12 to open the settings window, and click the
Cancel to close it. The mouse pointer of the emulated machine jumps to a new
position when the settings window closes. It's as if Wine has queued up mouse
movement between your pressing F12 and clicking Cancel.
To reproduce:
- Download and run the WinUAE installer. Run WinUAE.
- Optional: When the settings window opens, click CPU and FPU in the tree-view
then select Fastest possible under CPU Emulation Speed.
- Click Start. After a few seconds you should see something in the emulation
window and there is a red mouse pointer which you can move. Move it around a
bit.
- Noting where the red mouse pointer is, press F12 to open the settings window.
- Click Cancel to close the settings window. The red mouse pointer jumps in
position. The difference between new and old positions may be related to the
amount you moved the Windows mouse pointer in order to click Cancel.
I ran a regression test but it wasn't entirely successful.
wine-1.5.17-252-g8ba4c31 GOOD
wine-1.5.17-270-ga0f039a BAD
In between those two commits, running WinUAE did not allow the emulation window
to be activated. Keyboard input went to the terminal window instead.
The last commit for wine-1.5.17-253-g841214d was:

stdout and Program Error Details
Installing Git for Windows works with wine version 1.5.22 and lower. But
beginning with wine version 1.5.23 an error window pops up (see attachement):
WINEPREFIX=/tmp/1.7.55/ ~/wine/bin/wine ~/Downloads/Git-2.6.3-32-bit.exe
I just clicked next all the time until the installation starts. The
installation still finishes eventually.
Trying to run the installed Git bash still works with version 1.5.23. But
running the Git bash fails in version 1.5.31 to version 1.7.55. I'm not sure
about 1.5.24 to 1.5.30.
WINEPREFIX=/tmp/1.7.55/ ~/wine/bin/wine wineconsole
/tmp/1.7.55/drive_c/Program\ Files/Git/bin/bash.exe --login -i
results in a bash window popping up, but reporting after a while:
bash: fork: retry: No child processes
My hunch is that the setup runs a program called rebase.exe and that it fails
with wine version 1.5.23 and higher. The un-rebased executable still works with
older wine versions, but not with newer ones. There is one issue reported to
the Git for Windows project: https://github.com/git-for-windows/git/issues/150
Thank you for the software that makes me independent of Windows. :-)

This is an old game designed for Windows 3.x.
Each tile has a picture on the downward side and you have to flip the tiles and
match the corresponding pictures. When you click on a tile it should turn
around revealing the picture on it. This spinning animation is missing, the
picture is simply drawn on the upper side of the tile when you click on it.
Tile animation used to work until

winex11: Use window surfaces for rendering top-level windows.
It can be disabled by setting "ClientSideGraphics"="n".
Setting ClientSideGraphics=n in the registry indeed fixes the problem.
Other issues reported due to that commit:

To reproduce the problem download and unpack symgames.zip and start blocks.exe.
If you find that the game window is flickering rapidly press <alt> to open the
menus (this helped with the flickering issue for me). Then click on the tiles to
see that they don't animate.

Mouse jumps back to a previous position if you click it or wait long enough

You can actually move the mouse since it seems that the sampling of the
previous position is not from the start of the movement.
It makes it unplayable.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic shows a splash screen then quits. This
game worked in version 9.59 but after an upgrade from Ubuntu 7 to Ubuntu 8.04
and an upgrade of Wine from 9.59 to version 1-RC1 or now 1-RC2 the game will
launch, show the game menu, then if you choose game show the opening loading
image of a millennium falcon like ship, then quit with no displayed errors. I
have tried disabling sound and movies from the game menu, disabled the hardware
mouse, and set the textures to low. I've also tried changing the screen
resolution, running it in and out of a virtual desktop and using the most
recent NVIDIA drivers with Wine and tried different screen resolutions. I've
also tried all of the available sound drivers in version RC2. Please let me
know what other information you need from me to help you out here. My machine

I experience "negative" mouse acceleration in Skyrim. Moving the mouse in a
certain direction causes it to repeatedly "jump" in the opposite direction.
This results in very choppy mouse movement. Completely disabling acceleration
by setting Velocity Scaling to 0 with xinput seems to help a bit, but doesn't
completely solve the problem. I've tried this with two mice (Steelseries
sensei and a random off-brand usb mouse) and get the same result.

This does not block the install, Autocad installs and runs but certain
functions such as rendering of 3D drawings and importing of other file types
give an "unknown command" error.
I *think* this is due to the missing files.
Is it possible to manually "register" these files somehow?

A recent wine release broke my ability to easily switch between a full-screen
game and other tasks, because it now forcibly minimizes the game when it loses
focus.
I used to be able to quickly flip back and forth between the game and a
strategy guide, documentation, text editor full of notes on my progress, email,
etc, using my desktop software's hot keys for switching workspaces. Now,
returning to my game involves the incredibly irritating experience of having to
find the game's icon on the task bar, grab my mouse, move it toward the task
bar icon, aim, and click, every single time I want to return to the game.
On top of being quite frustrating, this makes it very difficult to do things
like compare what's on screen in the game to screenshots or maps, which are
common operations when troubleshooting graphics issues or exploring an open
world game.
A git bisect reveals the problem commit:
45d530461bf29c953f5f4532cc0e917b4c4fc296 is the first bad commit
commit 45d530461bf29c953f5f4532cc0e917b4c4fc296
Author: Stefan Dösinger <stefan(a)codeweavers.com>
Date: Thu Nov 13 20:39:25 2014 +0100
This has effectively broken the utility of virtual desktops / workspaces.
Would someone revert this, please? Or make it configurable? Or at the very
least, make it smart enough to avoid minimizing the game when a focus loss is
due to a workspace switch instead of something like alt+tab?
For the record, I'm running xfce on linux.

It works like a slide show.
Tested on Geforce7300LE and ADMRadeon 6670. Different fps but both too slow.
I think it is the bug because the same test on the same hardware but with
Crossover 14.1 gives me 8 times better performance!
To compare:
Wine1.7.39 <-> CX14.1.0
Game2 Low details 30.8 <-> 28.1 -- about the same
High details 28.2 <-> 16.8 -- wine is better
Vertex shaders 8.3 <-> 19.8 -- CX 2 times better
Advanced Pixel Shaders 4.8 <-> 37.2 !!! -- CX 8 times faster!
Crossover is also open source. Why not apply their patches to get about the
same performance?

My ~/.asoundrc setup
I own a soundcard (emu20k2) that alsa does hxmix with (no dmix involved). I
don't run pulseaudio.
I use a 4.0 (Front l/r, back l/r) set of speakers and I like front input to be
duplicated on the back, and to achieve that I use the attached .asoundrc, with
a pcm.ch40dup device that does just this.
Now, with ogg123 I'd do:
ogg123 -d alsa -o dev:ch40dup stereosong.ogg
And it'd play through the 4 speakers.
Now, I tried to get it to work with winealsa.drv:
1. It doesn't enumerate it, so I can't select it as output through the winecfg
panel. Workaround: I can force winealsa.drv to be aware of it through the
ALSAOutputDevices registry key (I put just "ch40dup" there) as described in
http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys
2. I select it as output and voice output on winecfg. Click test. The test
sound only plays through the front speakers, so it's failing to really use that
output and failing back to "default"... silently, without any output indicating
any problem on the terminal it was launched from.
3. Afterwards, I try foobar2000. Audio still outputs from front only.
Conveniently, foobar2000 does support selecting an output device. ch40dup is
listed. If I try to force playing through it, foobar2000 crashes. Stack trace
of its own builtin crash report tool reports the crash happens inside dsound.

This has been happening since Aion 3 (didn't play before) and Wine 1.5.x
(didn't try before):
-as soon as the party UI appears (when you join a party), showing the other
members on the top left area of the screen, the game will start lagging jerkily
like hell. Only "solutions" are to either leave the party or hit F12 to disable
ALL UI.
-alt+tabbing out or switching desktops will often crash the game. Can be
somewhat avoided by hitting F12 first to disable all UI, then opening guake to
get access to the workspace switcher, and CLICKING on another workspace. Just
using hotkeys for workspace switching instead does NOT work without a 99% crash
though!!
-alt-tabbing or switching desktops will cause periodical graphical flickering,
and all text (ALL text, like on buttons, in windows, in dialogues, in chat..)
will disappear while _not_ moving around with your character. While moving, the
text will be readable (albeit still flickering mostly).
-using in-game teleporters will every time increase your lag and likelihood to
encounter a game crash soon.

The game ("Power Dolls 4") start window presents a menu with "Start Game",
"Load Game" and "Exit". Pressing "Load Game" menu item pops up a list of saved
games (which is closed/hidden whenever one releases the mouse button - this is
different from the behavior in Windows, where the list stays put, btw). When I
move the mouse pointer away from the "Load Game" menu item (still holding the
mouse button) and it enters the list of saved games (just touches the border),
the game crashes with the following messages in the console:

glViewport @ context.c / 1641
err:wgl:glxdrv_SetPixelFormat Invalid operation on root_window
The same happens when I "Exit" the game (but it doesn't matter at that point,
obviously ;)

I was also using DirectX9.0c from winetricks, so that DirectX detection would

really well without any modifications to the game.
You'll just need to implement x360ce's ini file editor for wine, and magically
it works(yes even force feedback works wonders, only that does not(yet!) work

For some reason this is not the case on my computer:
The program opens correctly and recognizes the webcam driver but the terminal

Attached is the error messages I get if I start RoboRealm from a terminal.
Hopefully there is a solution of the problem.

Summary: Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe gets stuck in intro
sequence
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.54
Hardware: x86-64

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown

Console logs
This is when using the `nvidia` driver (and probably amd's, etc,). When using
`nouveau`, we get the bug at https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39541
Running the game changes the resolution to match the game's, then starts the
intro sequence. I see the normal "use of this product is subject to the terms
of a license agreement" text, but I can't proceed past it. The game is stuck.
No sound or music plays.
