screencast demonstrating the problem
Tested with the Steam version, no demo available.
When the game launcher appears menu options are hidden underneath grey
rectangles.
As the mouse pointer passes over a button it becomes visible (see example
screencast).
Terminal output doesn't show anything related.
The problem is reproducible in the traditional fullscreen and virtual desktop
mode as well.
The bug is present since

On Windows, 'shift' is an internal command, and 'shift.exe' is an
external command.
Wine's cmd mistakenly thinks 'shift.exe' is a synonym for 'shift'.
This makes it somewhat hard to play EA's Need For Speed: Shift.

When using MOVE of a file/directory, bad things happen
'move file' or 'move file1' gives a confirmation dialog and deletes the file if

With directories, similar behaviour but you get an access denied and the dir

plain terminal output (Dungeons demo installer)
After a successful installation of the demo (Dungeons) one can notice that two
directories were created in the root of drive_c: during installation.
One is named "0" containing a shortcut "Play.lnk"
The other directory is named "1" containing a shortcut "Continue play.lnk"
If I'm not mistaken, they should belong to the Game Explorer stuff.
I don't have Vista or Seven only a Windows XP running in Virtualbox. After
installation those shortcuts went into
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows\GameExplorer\{BB112F90-7C81-4352-8823-861D3957CF8A}\PlayTasks
I guess in Wine they should go into:
/users/Public/Application
Data/Microsoft/Windows/GameExplorer/{BB112F90-7C81-4352-8823-861D3957CF8A}/PlayTasks
At least other games (e.g. Woody Two-Legs) place their Game Explorer shortcuts
there.
I've tried installing the demo with WinXP, Vista and Windows 7 compatibility
modes but the directories were always created in the root directory.
Dungeons demo download link added to URL (~525 MB).

The crash can be reproduced in the demo, too but the demo suffers from bug
#11782.
1) Install the demo as usual.
2) You will probably need a modified ddraw.dll, available here:
http://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=downloads&ss=299&s=patch
3) Run the executable, it will extract a ddraw.dll. Place it in the game
directory and override ddraw.dll to native, builtin in winecfg.
4) Start the game by dmcr.exe, click on Exit in the main menu >> a page fault
is generated.

in Megarace 3: Wine simply skips the videos without an error message. It's a
pity because there are some hilarious cutscenes in the game, featuring Lance
Boyle as the host of the game.
The company logos which should be played right after starting have the
following properties:
Video: WMV v7, 640x480 px, 4:3
Audio: WMA v7, 128 kbps, 44 kHz, Stereo, 16 bits
The cutscenes in the game are separated into 2 files:
a wmv file which also includes an audio track (WMV v7 / WMA v7)
and a corresponding wav file (ADPCM, Stereo, 22 kHz)
After installing WMP9 or 10 via winetricks the videos are still not playing.
The demo can be used to test the issue but it contains only one of the company
logos.

On windows, you expect the files to be listed in lexicographically ascending

However, the order when executing this through wine seems random.

Summary: DbgHelp doesn't support DWARF-2 on Mac OS X
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.42
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.6
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: dbghelp
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: cdavis(a)mines.edu
Mac OS X has long had support for DWARF-2. Unfortunately, the current
implementation of DWARF-2 support in DbgHelp is tied to ELF. This means it
can't directly be used on Mac OS X, because Mac OS X does not support ELF.
I understand that getting things to work on Linux first takes priority over
getting them to work on Mac OS, but right now we Mac users are stuck with the
inferior stabs format. Plus, I get the feeling we're going to need this for
64-bit support. Also, DWARF happens to be the default format on 10.5 and up.
I also understand that the scheme that Apple uses is different from ELF
systems. Not only does DWARF-2 stuff get its own segment (__DWARF), but when
the binary is built, the DWARF stuff is put into a dSYM companion bundle. On
top of that, the dSYM bundle isn't even generated automatically for multi-file
builds. This means that:
- We have to invoke dsymutil to create the dSYM bundle.
- We have to install the dSYM bundle (if present) with each binary.
- We have to find the dSYM bundle to get DWARF-2 debug info.
I would be more than willing to help with this. (This might have even made a
good SoC project. Too late now...)

1. Open Wine's wordpad and LibreOffice Writer.
2. Type some text in wordpad.
3. Save from wordpad as a .rtf file.
4. Open the rtf file in LibreOffice Writer.
In both cases, the text shows up with a black background in Writer. This does
not happen with native riched20. When opening the rtf file with Word 2007, I do
not see the black background, so this is somehow related to the interaction
between Wine's richedit and LibreOffice, and I can't be sure which is at fault.

I have one exe file which seems to be Photodex generated slideshow application.
It used to word perfectly with Wine in 2010-2012, but when I tried to run it
recently I got no output on screen.
Sound plays fine, and it looks like application window is created (it is
present on taskbar), but there is no window, no borders, no title, no output.
Well this slideshow runs fullscreen, but anyway no output.
I've managed to bisect this problem to:
ea07c310ecfee6b301e7af8413760eb446e6f184 is the first bad commit

Unfortunately code changed too much from that time, so git revert patch can't
be applied.

Summary: wineconsole: user backend won't detect font -> white
boxes
Product: Wine

Hardware: x86
OS: Linux

Created attachment 50064

wineconsole.log
Wine compiled without ncurses.
When wineconsole is started, it shows white boxes instead of font. Log with
WINEDEBUG=+wineconsole attached.
This code is from 2002:
programs/wineconsole/user.c : line 442
/* FIXME:
* the current freetype engine (at least 2.0.x with x <= 8) and its
implementation
* in Wine don't return adequate values for fixed fonts
* In Windows, those fonts are expected to return the same value for
* - the average width
* - the largest width
* - the width of all characters in the font
* This isn't true in Wine. As a temporary workaround, we get as the width of
the
* cell, the width of the first character in the font, after checking that all
* characters in the font have the same width (I hear paranoia coming)
* when this gets fixed, the code should be using tm.tmAveCharWidth
* or tm.tmMaxCharWidth as the cell width.
*/
I tried comment font checking, then output is better, but font isn't
fixed-width (still smaller issue than white boxes instead of font).
In Ubuntu 12.04 is freetype 2.4.8, so IMHO we can rely on 2.4 series + ncurses
is default, so we can go ahead and fix it.

Summary: winevdm tries to run dos apps via dosbox on Z: which
is reserved in dosbox
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.12
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: dos

ReportedBy: pquiring(a)gmail.com
If you try to run a dos app that is not under .wine/drive_c (C:) winevdm will
try to use Z: which is reserved in dosbox and fails. Need to mount / with
another drive letter and then run the dos app in that folder.
Winevdm doesn't even create a mount statement for z:
sample bad config generated:
[autoexec]
mount c /home/user/.wine/dosdevices/c:
mount y /home/user/.wine/dosdevices/y:
Z:
cd \home\user\DATA\games\game
Z:\home\user\DATA\games\game\game.exe
exit

Running World of Warcraft in wine on a multicore/SMP system results in multiple
threads being used, however, only one CPU is given significant tasks. The
others have very little to no CPU load.

Summary: Post Mortem starts out of bounds
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.22
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux

Severity: normal

When i run Post Mortem
(http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14766 -i had to
override msvcrt but that's another bug) i get a blank screen. It turns out that
if i run compiz and try anything that zooms out of the desktop (eg fire up the
app switcher or enable 3d windows and rotate the cube) i can see the app
running normaly (videos and everything, i even managed to start a game). It
seems that the app starts "above" the desktop for some reason (i've attached
the log).
You can get the game from here -> http://uk-microids.gamesplanet.com/ for a few
euros and check it out, i haven't tested the demo but i guess it should have
the same behaviour, you can get it here ->
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/adventure/postmortem/download_2897772.html
This seems to be the only problem with this game, sound works, gameplay is ok,
you just have to fire up the app switcher or rotate the cube with 3d windows
enabled in order to see anything :P
