We have intranet webpage that requires authentication and activex. The only way to display it on linux is using wine and Internet Explorer which is suboptimal for several reasons. It would be nice if wine-gecko had authentication support, so we could use wine without third party software. Background: Natspeak 12.5 installs without a problem in a 32-bit wine prefix. Natspeak 12.5 is a 32-bit program with 64-bit "handles" to make it operate on a Windows 64-bit OS. (I believe that 13.0 is still a 32-bit program.) Once you install Natspeak 12.5, it needs vcrun2010 to operate. Anyway, I tried installing installing Natspeak 13.0 into the 32-bit wine prefix where I had installed 12.5. Vcrun2010 was already installed. Installing ie8 from winetricks gets around the problem. Star Trek Online creates an IEframe showing http://launcher.startrekonline.com/launcher_login. This page contains the following link which is supposed to bring up the Options menu in the launcher: <a target="_blank" href="app:3">Options</a> Interestingly, if you fool the Star Trek launcher into loading a different page, one that has the same link but without the target="_blank", it works! To do so: 1. Add "127.0.0.1 launcher.startrekonline.com" to /etc/hosts 2. Set up Apache. Create the file /var/www/launcher_login with the content "<a href="app:3">Options</a>". 3. Launch Star Trek Online. Now when you click the Options link, you'll get the Options menu just as expected. This seems to indicate some problem in the way Wine handles target="_blank" for custom URI schemes. I guess the problem is in unsupported ioctl or just lack of floppy images. Debugging can be made easier with a *printf() that uses only a few hundred bytes of stack space, in contrast to the several kilobytes required by the *printf() of glibc. With glibc it is too easy to overflow the stack of only 12 KiB.
