I am quite happy with my GTA IV on Steam port so far but I am struggling with
one issue that I am unable to solve.
I noticed the issue later in game when the player has to throw a brick through
a window. A right mouse click (RMB) is required to perform this action.
However, to reproduce this issue you can perform a right moue click also during
normal game play. The first right click performs as expected. Doing it again
exits the fullscreen mode, scales the fullscreen game window, shows the Steam
interface on top of the OS X desktop in the remaining screen area and then
switches back to game fullscreen mode. However after switching back to the game
no more mouse clicks are possible - only key commands and mouse movement work.
It can also happen that the Steam interface partly overlaps the game screen.
There is not much the user can do in this situation other than quitting the
game and Steam.
I tried everything to solve this:
- Virtual Desktop
- mwo=force
- grabfullscreen=y
The behavior doesn't change at all, no matter what settings and combination of
seetings.

When changing the priority of running applications is enabled in staging, those
games built on Bioware's Infinity Engine lock up at various stages (but always
in the first 1-2 minutes after the game was started).
There's nothing written in the terminal, the game executable consumes 100% CPU
after freezing.
The games are running stable if I unset the STAGING_RT_PRIORITY_BASE variable
(or set it to 0).
In etc/security/limits.conf I have
gyebro - rtprio 90
gyebro - nice -10
I changed the value of 'STAGING_PRIORITY_BASE=' in ~/.bashrc between 1 and 85,
but this didn't change the bahaviour.
The problem seemingly occurs randomly thus I can't give you the exact steps to
reproduce the problem. Sometimes the games hang while I'm navigating in the
menus, during character generation or when loading a saved game.
Occasionally I can get in the game but it always freezes in 1-2 minutes.
It seems to me that the I need to interact with the game to trigger the bug:
the game runs stable if I let it idle either in the menus or in mid-game. The
hang occurs when I click on a button in the menus or when issuing a move
command.
I have those games from GOG.com, but the problem is reproducible with the
original Baldur's Gate 2 demo too (released in 1998).
Install BG2 demo, start the game with BGMain.exe. Sometimes it freezes when I
click on the options button in the main menu. If not, start a new game, follow
the steps to generate a character and get in the game.Select your character and
move him/her across the screen, interact with the buttons in the UI
etc...there's no rule when the bug happens.

It seems Wine's d3d implmentation does not correctly support Intel Iris GPU,
e.g. from a MacBook Pro 13" Retina.
The game Fallout 3 crashes instantly with various different settings when
hitting the New button to start a new game, see also

command line output
After creating a profile, the game enters the main menu. At the right you can
choose multiplayer, singleplayer options and so on and on the upper middle part
of the screen there is just a bar that says "loading". And it seems to load
forever.
I attached command line output but I am pretty sure there are no hints on it
because the output does not change if the game changes from intro movies to
main menu.
Anyone any idea what component can be related to the problem? I tried
WINEDEBUG=+all but then then wine is busy with giving output before something
happens a very long time.

Not-really-duplicate of Bug 7205, reported in 2007 and closed in 2008.
I'm using foobar2000 1.3.10. I first encountered this issue on Ubuntu 16.04
Cinnamon and Wine 1.6.2 x64, on a (I think) 32-bit wineprefix.
# Setup
* I also replicated this issue in Wine 1.9.10, 32-bit (PlayOnLinux).
* To (hopefully) avoid foobar2000-specific tweaks, I used [Install dialog] ->
_Install a non-listed program_. Then I created a new app profile and
# Instructions
* Install foobar2000 1.3.10.
* Open foobar2000. Press [Alt-F].
# Results
* foobar2000 crashes. The internal crash handler catches the crash and pops up
a dialog.
* I clicked "View Report" and saved a crash log.
* Note that this bug is somewhat random. I've experienced GUI corruption, Wine
crash handler, foobar2000 crash handler, or no issues at all.
# Notes
* [Alt-Enter] crashes.
* [Alt] *focuses* the menu bar without crash. [Alt, Enter] opens the File menu
without crash.
* Afterwards, [Alt-F] etc. still crashes.
* Clicking on any menu opens that menu without crash.
* Afterwards, [Alt-F] etc. does NOT crash.
* Clicking the "right-click menu" keyboard key opens an undo/redo menu.

I've downloaded Atmel Studio 6 from here:
http://www.mikrocontroller.net/articles/AVR-Studio
and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Shell (Isolated) from here:

After that, I ran:
WINEARCH=win32 winetricks -q dotnet20 dotnet40
Because the setup of the IsolatedShell fails to extract, I manually extracted
it using 7zip (alternatively WinRAR) and then ran the setup.exe.
To avoid some error messages of the MS VSISOS setup, I copied some files:
$ mkdir -p ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v2.0.50727/CONFIG
$ cp /etc/mono/2.0/machine.config
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v2.0.50727/CONFIG/
$ mkdir ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v4.0.30319/config
$ cp /etc/mono/4.0/machine.config
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v4.0.30319/config
Now starting the Atmel Studio 6 setup works but still has some installation
errors of single components, but nevertheless the installation succeeds.
Starting the program fails with following error message:

Terminal output. Don't know if this is all, but I think it is.
I've installed Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare over Steam, but the resolution,
when I start the game, drops to 640*480( with a screen with 1600*900 ). The
rest of the screen is black.
When I try to set a new resolution the game just crashes and the resoluton is
still 640*480 in Unity.

Call of Duty 2 - Terminal Log
Each time "Call of Duty 2" is started, the first splash screen is shown, but
when the video from intro should be started it hangs.
Only if the playback can be skipped very fast it's possible to reach the menu.
On the terminal lots of following messages can be seen:

Given the batch file foo.bat containing
echo FOO
and the shell script 'foo.sh' containing
./foo.bat
the command
./foo.bat
interactively will output
FOO
on both cygwin/windows and cygwin/wine, but the command
sh foo.sh
will produce
FOO
on cygwin/windows but will fail on cygwin/wine saying
foo.sh: line 1: ./foo.bat: permission denied
This happens both in an interactive cygwin shell started under wineconsole,
as well as the naked command
$ wine ~/.wine/drive_c/cygwin/bin/sh foo.sh
which sometimes says permission denied, and sometimes says "bad address", e.g.
foo.sh: line 1: ./foo.bat: Bad address

So the "permission denied" error might be a symptom of a crash, too.

When an 16-bit Windows application displays a listbox and manually fills it
with DlgDirList (not as a part of a Common Dialog), the flag combination
DDL_DRIVES|DLL_DIRECTORY should make files appear according to the set filter.
Wine does not do this, as it (incorrectly) appends DDL_EXCLUSIVE to the bitmask
of flags before delegating to 32-bit code.

If using winedbg to debug Windows apps in a Linux IDE is to become practical
winedbg --gdb --no-start needs an extra parameter to specify a fixed host:port
TCP connection, similar to what gdbserver has. Currently the port is chosen at
random, which means IDEs have to be reconfigured on every debug attempt.

Driller is a freeware remake of a classic 3D adventure game, which was quite
popular in the 8-bit computer era.
The standalone executable Driller.exe fails to run in Wine, showing only a
messagebox, saying:
'Error! User lib not found', then it quits.
I can't verify how it behaves under a native Windows environment because I have
no Windows installed. According to the developer's page the game is Vista
compatible.
I'm not sure it has something to do with the issue, but the Driller.exe is
packed/protected(?) by Molebox Ultra. That is some kind of virtualization which
helps creating portable applications.

On Windows, all of "C: && echo haha", "C: || echo haha", "C: & echo haha" works
fine.
On Wine, this kinds of command line generates an error of "Can't recognize 'C:
' as an internal or external command, or batch script."

Noticed this while messing around with Sacrifice
(http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/sacrifice).
The game stores a few keys with embedded NULLs, apparently all the ones that
store string values (dword/hex values aren't affected).
Looking at the raw registry (system.reg) shows the values fine:
"Graphic detail"=dword:00000000
"IP address"="\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0"
"Key repeat delay"=dword:0000000a
"Key repeat start"=dword:00000032
but if I export the key with wine's regedit, it mangles them:
"Graphic detail"=dword:00000000
"IP address"=""Key repeat delay"=dword:0000000a
"Key repeat start"=dword:00000032
notice how a quote goes missing along with the newline. The game really likes
those newlines. If I remove them and rerun the game, then adjust its settings,
it adds them back.
I'll attach a text file with the raw registry, along with what I get when
exporting.
