Summary: Arcanum essentially unusable due to graphics errors
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: alex.richardson(a)gmx.de
When playing Arcanum, the issue shown by the screenshot happens as soon as you
attempt to scroll the view.
It seems that it only happens when scrolling to the top, left right and down
seem to be fine.
I know this did not happen with older versions of Wine ~1 year ago.
For testing purposes there is a demo of the game available here:
http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/
If you need any other information please tell me, I'm quite new to reporting
bugs in Wine.

After Setting the compatibility to windows 95/98, installing direct media end
the indeo codec, Colin Mcrae rally start but deos not show any menu correctly,
except for fixed bitmap like the Copyright screen (see the screenshot ).
Even if I try to navigate the menu and get to load the track, wine crashes.
See the crash.log for the output when the game crashes wine, and menu.log for a
debug with "relay,+d3d7,+ddraw" active (reaching the menu, navigating it and
then exiting the application).

I am running wine 1.7.6 on Ubuntu 13.10.
I have a Razer Ochori 2013 mouse whose mouse buttons are not all detected while
running wow 5.4.
The mouse has four side buttons, two on the left, two on the right. Both
buttons on the right side are not detected in wow.
xev receives Buttonpress events for those two buttons, as 10 and 11.
note: xev receives both left side buttons as 8 and 9.
And curiously...I have never been able find buttons 6 or 7 on this mouse. The
mouse wheel does not tilt right or left...
I posted this issue in the forums and was suggested to open a bug.
Thanks for your help.

The string field containing %SystemRoot% token never got the replacement value.
Updspapi.dll UpdSpSetDynamicStringA() is a stub and does not have any
connection to setupapi, maybe this is the problem.
Updspapi seems like an internal/private version of Microsofts setupapi library,
distributed with installers/SP installers - not to be installed into OS.
Unfortunately setting updspapi to "native", skipping Wine's builtin stub
crashes the installer.
BTW ... the PowerShell console/command line stuff really integrates nicely now
that Wine has proper console support (wineconsole no longer needed).

It would be great if the same thing were true for protocol handlers, so that
these would become registered in much the same way as when using gconftool in
gnome:
gconftool -s /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/spotify/command 'wine

gconftool-2 -s /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/spotify/enabled --type Boolean true
Would this be possible, hard, or maybe not a good idea?

In Windows, the COPY command run in a command prompt allows users to
concatenate files by using a plus ("+") operator, for example:
copy file1+file2 outfile
In wine's cmd.exe, it seems to read file1+file2 as a single path and therefore
outputs a "Path Not Found". Also, it does not recognize the "con" keyword used
to represent stdout/stdin. Therefore another method of concatenating files:
copy file1 outfile
copy file2 con >> outfile
does not work either.
My Ubuntu version is 8.04, AMD64 architecture, though I have seen the same
issue on the x86 version as well.

In particular, wine rely on GCC behavor regarding to extern inline.
It produces errors regarding asm construct conflicting with extern
inline symbols.
It produces errors with multiple defination of inline function in object files.
According to this, it seems that wine is not compatible with C99, but rely a
lot on GCC specific behavor.

I can't take a screenshot because it also loses focus, so I hope this makes
sense.
The Office 2007 apps have had their sensible menus replaced with a button in
the top left of the window.
The problem occurs when hovering over one option (say Send) so that it's
sub-menu opens, then moving the cursor over to another menu option (say Print).
The menu closes. This doesn't happen under Windows.
Tested Excel and Word. Can't really test the other apps as they have their own
problems preventing them from starting.
Nothing new is printed in the console when this happens, but log attached.
Went back to Wine 1.1.11 to check for a recent regression but problem occurs
there too. Same in latest git.

What actually happens: the popup appears, but vanishes when the user releases
the mouse button. The popup is the wrong size, and has scrollbars on the right

disappears when the button is released.) Some popups have text missing.
Example:
Open the attached ONLCFG.HLP file in Wine winhlp32. Click "How do I?". Click
"Letting your Intuit software ...". Click each of the underlined links: dial
type, dialing prefix and disable call waiting. Notice there is no text other
than the heading in the dialing prefix and disable call waiting popups. Click
Tell me more. The popup which appears contains links to other pages in the help

release.

For several versions of Wine (going back to well before 1.2), many of the
objects you can construct (notably offices and apartments) will draw offset,
such that the edge of the room will be >10px from the left of the edge. The
amount it is offset is constant per object type. Given that one side of the
room is also offset vertically by 1px, it would appear to be the case that
drawing these rooms uses the wrong offset to the pixel data.
I have observed this bug in 32- and 64-bit versions of Wine on Linux, and
64-bit version of Wine on Mac. The bug is present in SimTower v1.0 and v1.1b. I
have not tested any other versions.

The game Buccaneer: The Pursuit of Infamy will quit silently (without a crash
dialogue or anything) when you enter the Tavern after returning from a mission.
The Tavern is the place where players can save their actual progress in the
game.
Interestingly the game never crashes if you enter the Tavern BEFORE a mission
(I mean right after starting a new game).
You can check out the issue using the demo (122 Mb download size), link added
to URL.
How to reproduce the bug in the demo:
1. Install the demo and start it by T3D.exe. The game will notify you about the
latest update, you can install it, the game will restart after updating.
2. Start a new single-player game, select an available mission in 'Chart Room',
'Set Sail'.
3. You can complete the mission if you like it or simply turn your ship back,
and leave the mission area. You will be returned to your home port (Cutlass
Bay).
4. Back in the port click on 'The Tavern' >> the game will quit unexpectedly.
After some fiddling it turned out that installing native comctl32 components
via winetricks solves the problem.
A standard console log (attached) doesn't reveal too much information, I guess.
Any winedebug I should pass to narrow the problem?

This probably never worked correctly in Wine: in AppDB there are mentions of
the issue with Wine 0.9.x.
Reproducible with the demo as well as with the GOG.com version of the game.
The problem: when you meet the first person very early in the game, his/her
initial monologue is not playing. The person is just standing there, the audio
file containing the speech is never played. This makes impossible to get
further in the game. The game is not freezing; background music, animations,
camera movement are still working, but you are unable to use the keyboard or
the mouse. The only way to exit the game at this point is to kill the game
executable.
This is the point where certain fixmes from dmime are printed in the terminal,
as can be seen at the end of the attached log.
Workaround: 'winetricks directmusic' (which also installs native dsound). The
corresponding audio file is playing correctly and you can proceed further in
the game.
Steps to reproduce the problem with the demo version:
1. install the demo, use virtual desktop mode to work around bug #25786. At the
end of the installation, audio files used by the game will be converted from
.ogg to .wav. It should be noted that the game installer hits bug #17403 at
this point: the converted .wav files have different sizes, compared to the same
files when the game is installed under Windows. Probably that's not what causes
the reported issue (native directmusic doesn't help in bug #17403).
2. start the demo with eoa.exe. Skip the intro videos and click <Ok> in the
notification dialogue about mouse movement.
3. there is a 'bubble' in front of you, left click on it to get closer. A man
appears in front of you, but he's just standing there, his monologue is not
playing thus you can't proceed further.
The audio file that should be played at this point in the demo version is
'drboEsher-DireboSrln_eng.wav', located under Myst V Demo/sfx/streamingCache.
Please let me know if you need a log with debug channels enabled.

This should allow more progress on the builtin msxml3 lib.

The game is a nice, freeware adventure puzzle game.
Neither sound nor music is playing in the game with a clean Wine install.
After installing the directmusic components via winetricks and starting
Timidity as a separate process music is playing fine in the menu and in some of
the scenes.
However there are still problems playing sound effects during gameplay: it is
most noticeable in the first scene where a simple sound effect is intended to
play (sounds like a shooting sound).
The game becomes almost unplayable because of a strange lagging issue: the game
barely responds to keyboard events while the sound is playing.
Once you manage to make it past the first scene, gameplay seems to be back to
normal in the second scene. It seems that the lagging issue has something to do
with the looping sound effect during the first scene.
The first log is showing the output without native directmusic dlls.

the base game to be installed, doesn't have the problem.

"D:\GMProjects\Patrician3\App\App.cpp(732): Error in 'App::Initialize'

This error message comes up in this forum thread @Kalypso:
http://forum.kalypsomedia.com/showthread.php?tid=11896&pid=113448#pid113448
The answer was that the user had to update root certificates in Windows XP.
A +loaddll log reveals that crypt32.dll and wintrust.dll are indeed loaded when
I start the game.
Appdata.dll in the installed game directory contains a certification (the file
properties dialog under Windows shows it).
I wonder if a +crypt or +wintrust debug log would be of any help.
The game should start with a launcher asking you for registering the game
@Kalypso. I tried with native crypt32 and received a crash along with a
backtrace somewhere in Wine's wintrust component.

I have been trying the Soldat 1.5.0 Beta out, and it works as well as the 1.4
version. However there is a bug (probably in 1.4 too, but I'm reporting it for
1.5b anyway) with the weapons selection menu and sprites. Especially with the
menu, Soldat lags horribly, and once you do select your weapon, everything is
fine again. Also, when sprites are drawn on the screen, it also seems to spike
a bit. Both instances are spitting out this, continuously:
fixme:d3d_surface:read_from_framebuffer_texture >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
GL_INVALID_ENUM (0x500) from glReadBuffer @ surface.c / 913
Whatever that is, if that were fixed, it would probably be one of the last bugs
dealing with Soldat gameplay performance, as everything else is great!

to reproduce, install Sumatra PDF 3.0 in a clean prefix using the default
options.
then, in wincfg, either turn off "Allow the windows manager to decorate the
windows" or turn on "Emulate a virtual desktop", so that the tab area isn't
cropped.
then click on the menu button, choose File > Open... and open a bunch of files
(10 is a good number).
each file is opened in a tab. cycling through the tabs with the keyboard works
perfectly (Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab). however, the tabs aren't handling
mouse events properly.
if we number the tabs 0,1,2,3... then two things become apparent:
-- odd numbered tabs don't seem to respond to mouse events at all.
-- hovering/clicking tab 2*n will highlight/activate tab n, e.g., clicking tab
6 activates tab 3.
the program is open source and the code is avilable here:

I'm saying as a user, that boilsoft video splitter is really the easiest and
fastest video splitter/cutter for windows... supports almost all the video
files
The application installs, runs, and Almost 90% of functions works in wine; but
gstreamer1 + gstreamer-0.10 + wine on fedora 18 i686/x86_64 and opensuse 12.2
x86_64 does not play/load the video for manual cutting of a video file.
I'd really like to see it working with Wine as it is a very useful application.
Especially for uploading parts of a video to youtube, etc.
http://www.boilsoft.net/download/bs_video_splitter.exe
I've installed gstreamer* good, bad, ugly, libx264, ffmpeg, everything...
Videos (totem) gstreamer plays the video but wine + gstreamer is not loading or
playing the video.
Kindly look into this issue. Thanks.

Star Wars: Rebellion will crash when you try to enter tactical battle mode
(when two fleets meet over a planet). The fastest way to reproduce the bug is
to start a new game as the Rebellion and move your closest fleet to Coruscant,
then bump the game speed up to Fast and you'll get a battle alert within a
minute. Once you take control of the battle, you can issue orders while still
paused, although the starfield is blank and doesn't show any of the ships. As
soon as you unpause the battle or click in the starfield, the game will crash.
NOTE: I'm using the native DLLs for d3drm.dll and d3dxof.dll. The problem with
d3drm.dll is described in bug 8232, but it doesn't look like it's getting fixed
any time soon. From the console output, I'm pretty sure this bug would still
cause the game to crash even if the wine DLLs for those libraries worked (the
errors seem to be coming from other wine DLLs, not the native ones). Other
than those DLLs, I'm running it with a fresh .wine directory on 1.1.8.
Console output is attached, please let me know if you'd like me to enable any
other debug flags. Note that the error which is listed the first few times in
the file is pumped out constantly for the duration of the game, so I'm not sure
if its relevant. I've snipped off the top of the logfile until right before
you enter battle mode and it crashes.
Unfortunately I don't believe the game is available for free download. I'm
running Ubuntu 8.04. Thanks for taking a look.

Despite the fact that Microsoft documentation clearly states that
Anything after the double colon (::) must use forward slashes (/),
in accordance with URL standards.
(see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/235226), Windows developers tend to
forget(?) that rule and use backslashes (\) after the double colon.
For example, running UFile 2013 under Wine, opening the tutorial comes up with
a blank window, and the trace/fixme messages are logged:
trace:htmlhelp:HtmlHelpW (0x1006e,
L"ubxkbE.chm::\\tutorial/pages/1intro.htm>DT_HTML_TUT",
command=HH_DISPLAY_TOPIC, data=0)
trace:htmlhelp:NavigateToChm 0x208ba0 L"C:\\Program Files\\UFile

trace:htmlhelp:AppendFullPathURL L"C:\\Program Files\\UFile

trace:htmlhelp:navigate_url L"mk:@MSITStore:C:\\Program Files\\UFile
2013\\ubxkbE.chm::/\\tutorial/pages/1intro.htm"
fixme:ieframe:handle_navigation_error Navigate to error page
But of course, as a retail product, UFile 2013's tutorial of course shows
correctly in Windows.
Apparently, Microsoft knows how often developers get confused by '/' and '\',
and silently accepts such erroneous backslashes so that the relevant HTML Help
can be displayed.
The current Wine implementation of HTML Help, however, does not account for
such developer errors, leading to such blank HTML Help windows in (slightly)
buggy programs like UFile 2013.

charts completely shuffled!!
I copypasted my order.wnd file (that contain my charts ordered) in my

When I launch mt4 session, it doesn't follow charts order as written in my file

When running the 'Candytron' final version demo (now in full screen), some 3D
objects are rendered garbled with vertices going all over the place. The
program otherwise works to completion and closes properly.
Test configuration: WineHQ-made Wine 1.1.44 on Mandriva 2010.0, using clean
profile and fglrx from Catalyst 10.4.
When running from console, the only d3d error seems unrelated:

context_validate_onscreen_formats
Download the 'final' version from this page:

Also provided at that address, a video of the rendered version.

Presumably due to a texture being projected horizontally, several areas in game
have horizontal "Slices" in them.
This was to my knowledge added by an update to the game not to wine, so there
is (probably) no regression.
Some areas where this bug is blindingly obvious are north Diessa Plateau and
west Rata Sum.

Summary: winmm causes DSOUND_callback Wave queue corrupted

WHDR_DONE should only be set immediately before invoking the DriverCallback,
because some apps poll for that flag and don't depend on notifications or
callbacks.
WOD_MarkDoneHeaders must find another way to isolate done headers.
Because the queue of done headers is not isolated properly,
attachment #36494 to bug #28056
exhibits a log (around line 4250) where 2 threads, namely the app calling
waveOutWrite and the winmm feeder thread both grab the same list and send the
same notifications.
0034:trace:driver:DriverCallback (, 32bit function 0003,, 03BD,, 017D3A90,
00000000)
0036:trace:winmm:WINMM_BeginPlaying ...

0036:trace:driver:DriverCallback (, 32bit function 0003,, 03BD,, 017D3AD0,
00000000)
What happens is that the first thread removes the first header from
device>first. At the time the second thread kicks in, apparently more headers
are marked done. But since they are all part of the same linked queue, the
later ones trigger 2 notifications each.
err:dsound:DSOUND_callback Wave queue corrupted!
is the result of getting notifications twice.
Nice race condition!
BTW, but that's another issue, the code says "NotifyClient should never be
called while holding the device lock". However that's exactly what can happen
via waveOutWrite -> WINMM_ValidateAndLock -> WINMM_BeginPlaying -> WOD_PushData
-> NotifyClient.
I suggest a per device slot updated via InterlockedExchangePointer holding the
queue of pending notifications. The top-level wave* commands (and the winmm
feeder thread too) would then drain that queue. (The feeder thread could even
delegate that to another (timer?) thread.) Alternatively, Push/PullData return
that queue.

WebSlingPlayer, a Firefox plugin which acts in the same way as Slingplayer,
connects (with workarounds) but doesn't show any video. Audio plays fine.
"winetricks firefox3 flash wmp9" and native qcap.dll are needed to get this far
as there is no native Linux client as of yet. WebSlingPlayer is currently in
beta.
Workaround is using native quartz.dll.
Severity set low as workaround is use the Slingplayer. WebSlingPlayer is
intended for Windows users who do not have admin access, but this isn't
applicable to Wine.

When the steam-overlay is enabled, the mouse in Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas, and
Fallout 3 jitters in the 3d view. The visible cursor movement in menus is
totally smooth and normal.
When moving the head, the view center jumps around slightly, but only when
moving the mouse. The game is playable, these micro-jumps are really annoying.
It feels as if the mouse does not provide consistent but rather noisy and jumpy
data about the coordinates or the mouse underground is bad (dirt, reflections).
This was my guess for a long time, but I just figured out the problem does not
occur when the overlay is disabled.
Maybe this is related to #32913.

Heyo, so I've been experiencing some screen flickering when I play games in
Wine.
It happens when I get a popup from Steam (Linux version).
To reproduce it.
1. Have Steam (Linux) running.
2. Launch a Wine game in fullscreen.
3. Alt Tab to Steam and get a friend to message you (Game must support alt
tabbing).
4. Quickly go back into the Wine Game and watch the corner where popups appear
at.
5. When friend messages, the screen will flicker.
I've tested it with The Sims 4 and Fallout New Vegas, Origin and Steam
(Windows).
I am on Linux Mint 17.3 running MATE.

try to cancel the update or there will be no updates available, the application
freezes.
With 'winetricks dotnet30' the launcher works fine, so it looks like a problem

launcher of this unofficial expansion without downloading the original game.
There is nothing in the logs.

I sent a patch to eliminate this dialog:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2011-September/106508.html
but Alexandre said this should never happen. I see it occasionally on various
systems, but since I wrote the patch, haven't found a very reliable testcase.
I've found a reliable testcase with make test on Alpine Linux (which uses
uclibc).
It may not be the best testcase, since it's not using glibc (and also use PaX),
but AJ asked for a log, so here we go :).

when using the X11 driver on Mac.

Summary: Game "Yesterday" crashes while being played (OS X
Yosemite)
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Hardware: x86-64
OS: Mac OS X
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: deka95500(a)hotmail.com
Hi everyone,
I have a version of Yesterday that was built using a wrapper from this
website(external link).
Everything worked fine until I reached the 3rd stage. The game was stuck on a
loading screen and eventually crashed before showing a message saying:
"Yesterday.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close."
The wrapper is using Wineskin 2.5.8 / WS8Wine1.3.16. I'm using Mac OS X
Yosemite 10.10.3 on a 2013 MBP.
Can you please help me figure out what the issue is?
Thank you!

Summary: Xara Xtreme 4: Resizing handles not visible
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.2
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: info(a)linopus.de
Xara Xtreme 4: Resizing handles not visible
Xara Xtreme 4, the latest edition of the vector drawing application from Xara
(30 days trial available at http://www.xara.com/us/downloads/xtreme/ ), shows
no resizing handles when selecting an object. The resizing handles should be
visible when clicking an object with the select tool.
By contrast, the turning/shearing handles are visible. The turning/shearing
handels appear when clicking an object twice with the select tool.
Additionally, Bezier handles and points on curves do appear, but in wrong
colors (cyan instead of red). Bezier handles and points appear when using the
edit shape tool.
This is on a wine 1.1.2 install on Ubuntu Linux 8.04 in its standard settings.
The same bug is present when using Xara Xtreme X1, which is the thirdlast
edition. The bug is also present in earlier versions of wine (e.g. 0.9.56) and
CrossOver (e.g. 7.0.1).
Yours sincerely
Tobias Hilbricht
