Summary: Switching from a Windows app to an OS X app and then
back causes the spinning ball of death
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2

Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: professormrh(a)gmail.com
Sometime after 1.6.2_4 a bug was introduced in Wine that causes any Windows
application under Wine to crash with the spinning ball of death if you switch
to an OS X application and then return to the Windows application under Wine.
Example:
1. Open Notepad++
2. Switch to an OS X application (say TextEdit or Chrome)
3. Copy some text to the clipboard
4. Switch back to Notepad++
5. Encounter the spinning ball of death
However, if you just switched to an OS X application and then switched back
without interacting with the clipboard, there is still a 50/50 chance you will
encounter the spinning ball of death.
Once you have the spinning ball of death you have to force quite out of Wine.
Wine 1.6.x does not exhibit this bug.

I am using Wine Wrapper to install the game Secret Weapons over Normandy. I had
previously installed it in a Windows XP virtual machine but found the game to
be to slow on it so I wanted to try to install it with another method on Mac
and decided to try using Wine.
With the help of few tutorials I manage to install it in a wrapper and run the
game, the game shows the intro video, the game menu but when I try starting the
game I get an error saying that a AdapterConfig.exe (an .exe in the game
folder) has encountered serous problems and had to be shut down. Because of it
the game will not start.
This same error also comes up if I try to config the game before I start it up,
(There is a menu to start with where you can start the game or configure it
before you begin, this is before the menu I talk about earlier and before the
intro videos)
I have no clue what is going on or how to fix it. Hope some one can help.
I will attache I error report with this report

Im using a 64-bit Manjaro Linux.
When the installation process asks for product key, it is impossible to enter
it because the fonts ar too large.
You have to enter 5 characters in each field, but only 3 or 4 characters fit
in.
I already try to chaneg the font size in the "system.reg" file, but it does not
effect the font size in the game's installer.
But I realized; not all characters don't fit!
If I enter only numerics it is possible to enter 5 characters. (any numeric)
It seems you can enter 5 characters if they are "thin" (like I, J), but
you can enter 3 or 4 characters only with "fat" characters (like O, W, etc.).
(English is not my native language, so if not clear enough what is the problem,
just tell me, and I try my best, to explain it with other words.)

Alright, after I defeated the msvc*8*.dll problem (which was related to my

get one line of regular log

I tried various debug channels, including +ALL. Even with +ALL, logging ceases

I have no idea what the matter could be. Hopefully some dev can look into this

Screenshot of hidden child windows.
Poser 7.0 is a 3D model manipulation and rendering program. It has a main
background window and several child windows, including a 3D viewport using
openGL. It runs quite well in a virtual windows desktop in version 0.9.55. In
versions after that, when the 3D window is manipulated, the child windows all
disappear behind the main window, as shown in the attached shot. Resizing the
main window will allow one to bring the child windows to the foreground, but it
happens after EVERY manipulation of the viewport. It only happened very rarely
under 0.9.55.
This doesn't occur when running on the KDE desktop using the window Manager;
however, in this mode moving the window causes the cursor to flash between the
normal pointer and the cross shapped move window icon, and the mouse buttons
and keyboard to become unresponsive for between 20 seconds and one hour-this
did occur prior to version 0.9.55(I suppose I should report this one whilst I'm
here). Eventually the flashing stops and the window can then be moved.
I'm running openSUSE 10.3 with KDE 3.59 and the nVidia proprietary video
drivers.

I recently purchased and installed the chess program Houdini 3 in the ChessBase

can't activate the chess engine Houdini 3. There is a security code to enter,
but entering it only produces an error message ('Engine: not implemented yet').
However, I am able to load and use a different chess engine, Houdini 1.5. This
older, somewhat weaker engine, now in the public domain, doesn't require a
security code.
Is there any way to generate a log file that might give an indication of just
where the problem is occurring?

WSALookupServiceBegin (and possibly other, related functions) return
SOCKET_ERROR. A recent Steam update has brought this issue to my attention. It
would appear that Valve have either added functionality to steam that requires
WSALookupServiceBegin to function correctly, or, have made Steam exit when
WSALookupServiceBegin returns an error.
Having researched this, I have found other issues and forum posts around the
internet, some related to steam and dating back quite some time (2013 was the
earliest post I saw about this and steam). Non of these appeared to cite
failure due to this issue.
I will also submit this to the steam issue tracker, but I am posting this here
as this issue could be the responsibility of either party as far as I am
concerned.

Wine 1.1.22 +file
At the end of the setup for Norton Antivirus 5 for Windows NT, the installer
apparently hangs.
The installation isn't fully complete AFAICT.
There is nothing in the console at all, but a +file trace shows the same 55
lines repeated continuously (see log).
The installer has to be killed.

Summary: emulated_textureram has no sense. It is always real
VideoMemory

change key name to be different form native
Current wine has a reading from registry
~~~
if ( !get_config_key( hkey, appkey, "VideoMemorySize", buffer, size) )
{
int TmpVideoMemorySize = atoi(buffer);
if(TmpVideoMemorySize > 0)
{
wined3d_settings.emulated_textureram =
(UINT64)TmpVideoMemorySize *1024*1024;
TRACE("Use %iMiB = 0x%s bytes for emulated_textureram\n",
~~~
assuming user can change this value.
It doesn't happen.
The value will change to real value before this reading will occur.
There must be other registry key, for example "EmuVideoMemorySize".
In this case this method is working. The patch attached.
