The appdb page shows a long list of success cases. However, after the last game update, it is unplayable, two different errors occur: If you try playing a scenario, the game just crashes. If you try a normal single player game, it says "Waiting for players" indefinitely. I did not try multiplayer with this. I obviously tested this on a clean prefix. I also tried using wine 1.8.2, which was reported successful on the appdb page, and was able to reproduce the bug, so I do not believe this is a regression. The developers provide access to older versions of the game via the steam beta system. If I set mine to patch43 (or older), the game is playable again, which functions as a quick workaround, though it renders multiplayer unlikely. When looking at the output on the terminal, nothing caught my attention, but I have no idea what debug flags to use. Hi; I've installed 'Stronghold 2 1.4' on 'Ubuntu 9.10' with 'Wine 1.1.36', the game didn't work at first, but started after installing DirectX 9.0c. Almost everything is fine, the game loads fine (except for the first time when it hanged at players name confirmation...). Menu, options etc. looks and works perfectly. Then I tried playing... On the play-map I can see the grass, trees, water is always perfectly displayed... and so on, but except for two buildings, stockpile and sawmill I see squares in blue or red colour, I haven't seen any units also, maybe the weren't any at this time, but most likely they're not displayed correct also. It looks to me that this could be fixed, as game doesn't crash, it only looks funny. What should I change to get it to work? I've seen this bug in other posts, but it never seemed to be the problem that was fixed. My current test is on an AMD 64-bit install of Ubuntu, but I have tested it from a 32-bit as well giving a similar error. I don't have that system running at this time, but I can get it back up in a day if anyone needs to go that route as well. It uses a Direct3D 9 based renderer. I have attached screenshots of an example drawing of MicroStation running on MS Windows and multiple shots of MicroStation running in Wine. In Wine only part of the drawing is displayed properly at a given time. When moving the view around in MicroStation, some parts disappear and other appear properly. I have no idea to whether it is a new old bug or a regression. This flicker bug does affect quite some games on Mac OS X as far as I know. DirectDrawRenderer=opengl The flicker (& most of the time, supposedly also some random garbage from the video memory) will always be present when the game runs under fullscreen mode. NO flickering problem when the game runs in emulated virtual desktop mode. But changing this value seems to have no effect. At least dlls/gdi32/freetype.c looks for the built-in Wine *.fon fonts in ${datadir}/wine/fonts. So it doesn't find them if they are in a changed $fontdir. I suggest to first check fontdir explicitly, before falling back to the default value. Background: In Debian we ship both the stable and the development version of wine (wine and wine-development). These are installed in different subfolders, e.g. /usr/share/wine and /usr/share/wine-development (where wine and wine-development are part of datadir, and "wine/" is stripped from the variable value). I believe that somewhere between 1.9.10 and 1.9.11 there was a regression, because starting from 1.9.11 I get massive sound glitching unless I up the HelBuflen to around 8192, which adds like 50ms of sound latency. This is most definitely a regression in minimum sound latency. I am running linux gentoo 64-bits, the wine prefix is 32-bits and I'm using pulseaudio. I'm specifically testing this with the game "osu!". I'm using the built-in dsound and native .NET 4.5. Steps to reproduce: git clone git://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git cd wine mkdir build cd build ../configure make WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/test winetricks -q dotnet45 # no, osu! doesn't run without native .NET 4.5 so you have to install it either # through winetricks or manually wget 'https://m1.ppy.sh/r/osu!install.exe' --no-check-certificate WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/test regedit # set HKCU\Software\Wine\DirectSound\HelBuflen (string) to 512 WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/test ./wine 'osu!install.exe' Wait for it to install and start up. The game also seems to be occasionally freezing or crashing when this sound glitching happens. I couldn't manage to get a log for this crash because it seems to be stuck loading info, but I'm pretty sure you can reproduce it on your end easily. If I switch to native dsound, I just always get glitching even at 8192 HelBuflen. If you perform these very steps on the stable version or 1.9.10, you will get proper audio. Headers in sys/ and bits/ usually are implementations for the platform; since sys/sysinfo.h is not standard, you cannot assume that it exists only on a platform, nor what it provides. I have tried several things to try and get this game to run in DX9 mode: I have made a clean 32-bit prefix as well as a 64-bit prefix and tried various Windows versions (XP, 7) I made another prefix and tried all kinds of DirectX 9-related winetricks (directx9, d3dx9...) Basically, the game gets to a loading screen, there is music playing for a bit and then just a crash to desktop. The only override I am using would be the d3d11.dll set to "Disabled" Wine's configuration utility so as to prevent the game from defaulting into Direct X 11 mode. The reason I am trying to run this game in DX9 mode is because in its files it has both d3d9.dll and d3d11.dll. I have attached the terminal output from the clean prefix in the hope that it will help. Here's my current configuration: Wine-1.9.16-107-g882980c One freshly made 64-bit prefix where I ran "winetricks vcrun2015" to work around this bug: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41090 GOG version of the game One thing to note is that unlike all the other UE4 games I have been reporting this one does not flash a crash dialogue box with the name of the error and this: wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x140c40c0f (thread 0194), starting debugger... is just the game's crash reporter crashing so nothing to do with the error at hand :) Terminal output attached.
