Summary: Trackmania Nations Forever graphics test does not work
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.0
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: diafero(a)arcor.de
On first startup, Trackmania Nations Forever (free download at
http://www.trackmania.com/index.php?rub=downloads ) usually makes a benchmark
to set useful graphics detail settings. However, this does not work on wine:
Instead of a benchmark, the actual full game is started. When I quit, the
launcher tells me that the graphics data could not be found. I then get the
normal launcher, and can start the game again. This happens each time I start
the launcher.
Trackmania United Forever has the same issue.

whenever I run any application, winemenubuilder crashes. Disabling it via
winecfg in the libraries section (specifically putting winemenubuilder.exe and
toggling it to disabled) makes wine complain that it can't find the component
but it no longer crashes.
For a basic reproducable test I'll be running 'wine notepad' as an example
here.
I don't know what this component does or what it's a part of, but this crash
did not happen under any previous version of wine.
I'll be attaching a picture of the crash dialog as well as the stderr
information.

ddraw: Use offscreen backbuffers.
Before this patch the frame rate in the game menu (press Esc while in game) was
limited to <=60. Now the frame rate can reach hundreds. Behavior on Windows:
frame rate is limited at 60.
The reason I am reporting this: Shortly after opening the game menu there often
is a short but very noticeable phase where everything behaves sluggishly,
making it very hard to select the desired entry with the mouse.
The sluggishness/slowdown itself may not be a Wine bug since is not a problem
when I switch NVIDIA PowerMizer from its default "Adaptive" to "Prefer Maximum
Performance". That, however, is not an acceptable permanent solution on a
laptop. Sync to VBlank settings do not change the behavior.
So far I have only been able to observe the slowdown when running the game in
Direct3D mode, although the frame rate is now also unlimited when running in
DirectDraw mode. All observations have been made with Diablo II Lord of
Destruction 1.13c.

System.IO.__Error.WinIOError at System.Xml.XmlReader.ReadToFollowing
Running the AutoWikiBrowser database scanner fails with "no access to memory
location" normally within seconds of scan starting.
Occurs on wine wine-1.8.1 and wine-1.7.39
To reproduce: export WINEARCH=win32
winetricks -q msxml3 dotnet35 corefonts gdiplus riched20 ie6
[Probably only dotnet35 is required for this testing]
download AutoWikiBrowser from http://sourceforge.net/projects/autowikibrowser/
choose latest version (5.8.5.1 at time of writing).
unzip AutoWikiBrowser and run wine AutoWikiBrowser.exe
choose Tools -> Database scanner
download a wikipedia database dump file from https://dumps.wikimedia.org/
browse to the database XML file
search based on title contains 'foo' or other option. Press Start.
Wait for scan to progress. Scan normally fails within seconds with "no access
to memory location" error (stack trace relating to C# XML reader attached).
The problem only intermittently occurs on smaller XML dump files (e.g. < 100 MB
uncompressed) but always occurs on large XML files.
Above process works without error under Mono version 4 on same machine (using
50 GB English wikipedia XML dump file) and of course on native Windows.
Possible further information/speculation:
I have written a simple single threaded console only .NET 2 exe that works
under same wine setup without this error on same machine. So I suspect that the
issue may be to do with multithreading: the AutoWikiBrowser scanner is
multithreaded, versions of the test console exe I wrote failed with same error
if I added multithreading.

window/dialog box (except the top grab bar), the arrow jumps left and up about
a inch. Unfortunately mouse clicks are sent as though the mouse was still where
one would expect it to be. In other words, with the arrow cursor over the Wine
dialog box, the cursor is up and left of where mouse clicks are sent from.
I tried disabling Compiz, with no effect. In fact it appeared that compiz was
already disabled, despite talk of default enabling under 8.04
This is with Wine 1.0, Ubuntu Heron 8.04, a Sony VAIO PCG-FX140 laptop
coppermine 32 bit chip with a 10GiB HD and about 384 MegB RAM

Summary: Focus Problems with Tera
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.24
Hardware: x86-64
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: eli(a)orbsky.homelinux.org
Hi.
Using wine 1.7.24 32bit on x86_64.
Wine is configured to:
Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen
Allow the window manager to decorate the windows
Allow the window manager to control the windows
I play games in full sreen on a dual screen setup. The screen that I play on is
sitting to the right while my other screen is to the left.
The game that I play most of the time is Tera online, but I've seen these
problems other games as well.
1st Focus Problem
-----------------
After starting the game, the launcher pops up and I can login. When I press on
the play button; what should happen next is a splash screen pops up, then a
warning about not being able to exceed 4GB memory should pop up ontop of the
splash screen. I would then dismiss the warning and then the game should pop up
in front and I should be able to play.
What does happen is that the the splash screen, the warning screen and the game
itself are all thrown into the background. I need to alt-tab to the warning
screen before I can dismiss it. Then I need to alt-tab to the game window
before it appears. The game then starts normally.
Now... If I disable "allow the windows manager to control the windows" then the
windows pop up as expected, but.... when the game pops up, the mouse does not
move.
2nd Focus Problem
-----------------
During transition screens the mouse looses focus and I can drag the mouse off
the game. This also happens after starting a dialog with an npc and the dialog
box of the "conversation" appears. If I click on the game again all is well,
but I shouldn't loose the focus.
3rd Focus Problem
-----------------
Sometimes, when actually playing I cannot turn to the left (where my secondary
monitory is sitting and the game is not. I can continue to turn to the right,
but turning left is froozen unless I alt-tab cycle out of and then back into
the game and all is well.
If there is any additional information that you need from me I will do my best
to either provide that info or ask howto provide it.
Thanks for any time you might spend looking into the problem.

Summary: Fallout New Vegas: Anti-aliasing doesn't work properly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.24
Platform: x86-64

Severity: normal

Before continuing I should mention Multisampling is enabled in the Wine
registry.
Anti-aliasing in Fallout: New Vegas doesn't seem to work like it should. Values
up to 8 samples (as per the launcher) apply anti-aliasing, but it seems like
it's only in fact rendering with 2 samples. Selecting 9 samples or more simply
disables anti-aliasing altogether.
World details are anti-aliased correctly. Buildings, streetlamps and the like
are smoothed like they should be, while objects like grass are not.
Furthermore, structures in the distance (like pylons) are not aliased at all
and look like pencil scribbles from MS Paint.
I've observed this in Wine versions throughout the 1.5.x series. My distro is
Arch Linux x86_64.
DirectX 9 DLL overrides *are* being used as the Steam installer for New Vegas
installs DirectX automatically. I have not yet tested it without overrides.
This doesn't occur in Skyrim, a game that uses the same engine as New Vegas.
My specs:
Nvidia 660Ti 2GB
16GB DDR3 RAM
Intel Core i5 3.4GHz @ 4.0GHz

The following patch has a test which shows that RemoveDirectoryA will set
incorrect GetLastError error.
For example, using RemoveDirectoryA("D:\\not_exist_file") will lead to
ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND in windows while ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND in Wine.
I had tried to write a patch to fix it and it worked.
However, it causes a set of tests failed in ntdll.

Vulkan is now released: https://www.khronos.org/vulkan/
Wine may profit from this.
The HLSL -> SPIR-V compiler can make it possible to translate direct3d shaders.
I guess implementing that backend can make Wine much faster for 3D graphics.
I'm unsure though if the translation interface is too complicated and slow if
the application still does the OpenGL/Direct3D calls.

Wine crash log
When trying to load the Sylenth1 VSTi in any kind of host, Wine crashes with a
stack dump and backtrace.
You can download Sylenth1 from:
http://www.lennardigital.com/modules/downloads
(5MB, no sign up required.)
This happens in all hosts I tried, native Linux ones (LMMS, QTractor) as well
as Windows ones running in Wine (FL Studio, Reaper.)
The easiest and fastest way to reproduce the error is:
* Install LMMS (should be available in all distros)
* Install Sylenth1 with Wine
* Run LMMS
* Insert the "VeSTige" instrument into the song editor.
You do that by clicking on the "Instruments" icon in the
vertical bar to the left and drag&dropping the "VeSTige"
item into the song editor.
* In the VeSTige GUI (click the newly added VeSTige instrument
to bring up the GUI), click the folder icon, select the
Sylenth1Demo.dll and click OK.
At the moment the DLL runs, Wine crashes.
I'm using Wine 1.3.37 on Gentoo Linux AMD64.

WINEDEBUG="+dinput"; simulated mouse movement with xdotool
Moving the cursor in Empire Earth v2.00.3466 is not possible unless you move
the mouse very quickly. When you do, the cursor moves by only a few pixels.
Generating mouse movement with xdotool [1] showed that the cursor moves by 1
"unit" for each 120 pixels the mouse moves. One "unit" seems to be more than 1
pixel and depend on in-game settings...
$ xdotool mousemove_relative -- 0 119 # --> no cursor movement
$ xdotool mousemove_relative -- 0 120 # --> moves cursor by 1 unit
$ xdotool mousemove_relative -- 0 239 # --> moves cursor by 1 unit
$ xdotool mousemove_relative -- 0 240 # --> moves cursor by 2 units
About the logfile:
Started the game, then in main menu: no mouse movement except 3x 119, then 3x
120 pixels downwards using xdotool, then alt-F4
Those parts look interesting but with I'm lacking the skills to figure out
what's wrong or even fix it:
$ bzcat dinput-120.log.bz2 | grep -B10 -A30 120
$ bzcat dinput-120.log.bz2 | grep -B10 -A30 119
I hope this is helpful..
Using native dinput, behavior is completely different and hard to describe. I'm
not sure if it's relevant:
The game seems to remember the amount of pixels you have moved in X or Y
direction, moving the cursor by a corresponding value on every mouse event
(also clicks). After moving the mouse to the right, the cursor keeps going
right even when you move the mouse left. Moving the mouse in the other
direction lowers that "memory", stopping the cursor eventually.
You have to set "Mouse Sensitivity" to "1" in regedit, otherwise the cursor is
uncontrollably fast.
This is different from the issues with the Demo version or 1.00 (bug 13351),
therefore I'm creating a new bug report.

Terminal Log
I am trying to run the student version of Solid Edge ST8 on up-to-date OpenSUSE
Tumbleweed using the latest wine build. It seems that there has not been
activity in the DB entry for SE for years and so I am under no illusion that it
is supposed to work but I can't see any major reason why it should not because
I cannot see any reason for the program needing any hardcore Windows APIs.
After all, it is mostly OpenGL and OpenCL and its big brother NX which it
shares a lot of engines with has native Linux support. I am therefore
determined to get it working.
It installed just fine after I changed Wine to at least Windows 7 (it didn't
like XP...) and the tiny "Viewer" program works but the full program terminates
upon startup with a dialog that says "Error loading LOCALE resource library
SPLASH.drx". I can confirm that the file is present on the filesystem and in
the same place that it is on my Windows PC where the program works.
I have attached the terminal output from wine. I do think though that maybe the
"fixme:module:load_library unsupported flag(s) used (flags: 0x00000060)" line
might be the cause of the problem.

As in the title, I cannot use full screen resolution (1366x768, 16:9) with game
that support it.
In particular the game is GTA San Andreas (I think 1.01v).
I'm using wine 1.5.27.
The game lists only 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768. On Windows it is able to start
with the full screen resolution (1366x768) and there are also more other
resolutions available.
The game has been installed in the same way on both Windows (7) and Linux (Xubu
12.10).
I tried to use a virtual desktop. I set it to 1366x768 but the game still lists
only 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768.
I also tried to use a bigger virtual desktop (4000x3000). In this case, the
game was able to recognize the 4000x3000 resolution (it started but clearly was
unplayable due to huge resolution) but 1366x768 is still not present.

I've found a strang bug while testing my program.
I used few WINAPI funcs for codepage converting (the file path was in UTF-8,
and to open it, I needed to convert it to the Windows's awkward wchar_t and
back). I hadn't a copy of Windows that time, so I tested it on wine. There's
the tested code:
char* WcharToUTF8(wchar_t *in)
{
uint64_t len = WideCharToMultiByte(CP_UTF8, MB_ERR_INVALID_CHARS, in, -1,
NULL, 0, NULL, NULL);
char *out = (char*)calloc((len + 1) * 6, sizeof(char));
WideCharToMultiByte(CP_UTF8, MB_ERR_INVALID_CHARS, in, -1, out, len, NULL,
NULL);
return out;
}
It worked on wine. On wine it returns correctly converted string. On real
Windows it returns nothing, and empty string crashes the program.
After replasing MB_ERR_INVALID_CHARS with 0 it worked on both wine and Windows.
char* WcharToUTF8(wchar_t *in)
{
uint64_t len = WideCharToMultiByte(CP_UTF8, 0, in, -1, NULL, 0, NULL,
NULL);
char *out = (char*)calloc(len + 1, sizeof(char));
WideCharToMultiByte(CP_UTF8, 0, in, -1, out, len, NULL, NULL);
return out;
}
Also, the code was stolen from MSDN page about codepages, and there was a note
about "nothing will work correctly WITHOUT MB_ERR_INVALID_CHARS".
Windows bug? Wine bug? Wine did work as said in MSDN, Windows did not.

To reproduce: Create new script (File->New Script) and try to install it

>From tracing the outputs and by debugging wine I found the reason for the crash
to be in dlls/user32/edit.c: The application calls EM_GETHANDLE and later
WM_SETFONT on an edit control (without sending EM_SETHANDLE in between). During
processing WM_SETFONT the es->text field is accessed, which at this point
contains NULL due to the inhibited buffer locking after EM_GETHANDLE.

loaded. I'm using the French version of that video game.
I've launched the game on a clean win32 prefix, and set the windows version as
Windows 95 (I used to play this game on a Windows 95 machine).
The game is a win16 New Executable.
I've attached the output of wine with the flag

Bug #: 33722
Summary: Stereo IMA ADPCM encoding in WINE produces loud static
instead of sound
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.8
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: msacm32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Nachanon_Vetjasit(a)hotmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
I've been using Microsoft Sound Recorder to convert PCM (44100Hz 16-bit Stereo)
wave file to IMA ADPCM (44100Hz 4-bit Stereo), and saved to a wave file.
When I played the file in MPlayer, instead of the desired sound,
it played a loud static on the right channel, and a mashup of both
original channels on the left channel.
Mono encoding didn't affected though.
Other codecs are fine, except PCM (crashes; bug #26388), MS ADPCM
and MP3 (unavailable).
To reproduce:
- Start Microsoft Sound Recorder (use Windows XP version or below):
$ wine sndrec32.exe
- Open some PCM wave file that is 44100Hz 16-bit Stereo.
- Go to File > Properties
- Click "Convert Now"
- Choose "IMA ADPCM" codec with 44100Hz 4-bit Stereo configuration.
- Click "OK"
- Save it to another wave file. (No matter play button is grayed out or not)
- Play that wave file with any player that supports IMA ADPCM.
You'll hear a loud static on the right channel, and mashed-up sound
on the left.
Another thing is after encoded, Sound Recorder saw a doubled length of audio,
MPlayer also saw so. When played, playhead moved twice the normal speed.
(Which is a strange behavior)
Note: I filed this as msacm32 since Sound Recorder is using it
directly for encoding.
Using WINE 1.3.8 (source) on Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 (i386: Intel Pentium 4
2.66GHz)
WINE Audio Driver: ALSA 44100Hz 16bit (Full Hardware Acceleration)

Segment of relay output
I'm trying to get Astroplanner to run with Wine. The author has a low opinion
of Linux users being willing to pay for his software. So it only runs natively
on Windows and OSX. I'd like to prove him wrong, but I need to get it running
first. I'm doing this on an up to date Ubuntu 8.04 laptop. I've installed
Wine from the repository. I've attached a segment of the relay output around
what I think is causing the problem. Recreating the problem is very easy.
Download Astroplanner from
http://www.ilangainc.com/astroplanner/reguserdl/V1.6.1/AstroPlannerWindows.….
It runs in demo mode until registration. There is no installation process, so
just run it under Wine. After a lot of initialization, the application comes
up. Create a new plan when that screen comes up. Open the Edit,
Preferences... window. The problem occurs when you close that window. This
seems quite reliable. The problem seems to be an unhandled page fault in
ntdll, but I really don't know if that is the real problem. Thanks.

The config application for the Temple+ mod uses a library that calls

It crashes on startup because the method currently returns E_NOTIMPL;
To implement this correctly wine needs its known folder definition expanded by
the redirection capabilities as this is currently completely missing.

After clicking new game and selecting a few options, the intro video doesn't

I tried to find anything suspicious in the log (I had to reduce the noise from

See attached log for errors, but none of them look video related.
OS: Debian testing x86_64.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, yet the effect can potentially negatively
affect various apps.
Probably even regedit shows it, but to pick a random external app that shows a
problem, let's look at Cheat Engine 6.6.
In its Help Menu, there's 'Cheat Engine Tutorial(64-bit)' option.
If FontSmoothing (that registry option) is off, it fits the menu. But if it's
on, the text is just a bit too wide, so it's cut off. It's also noticeable on
keyboard shortcuts.

This may be a duplicate of 11521, but I'm not sure.
I have owner drawn buttons in my own app, and they work fine in WINE - unless I
enable a theme in the 'desktop integration' settings. Then the buttons don't
appear at all until I click them. Without a desktop theme, the buttons also
redraw on mouse-over, but not with a theme. You have to actually click them,
and then they show up - but they don't redraw on mouse over even then.
I think this used to work prior to version 1.8. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had
theming enabled on this machine. It's an old Linux machine that I recently
brought up to date - don't know what WINE version was on it previously.

Unfortunately, the crash dump generation hangs. The total console output is

During previous attempts with wine 1.6, install hung when starting a shell
window; a separate test of the installed bash.exe created a very similar crash
mentioning msys-2.0.dll. This seems to suggest that every msys2 app (all being
linked to this dll) will exhibit the same problem.

It's using the Caphyon 'Advanced Installer' so bug #34989 applies but that bug
specifically indicates it hangs when the problem occurs. This installer does
hang but only after the error dialog is closed.
I originally tested this with Wine 1.8-rc3 and encountered the same error (also
filed bug #39792 for a different problem with the installed app). After 1.8
was released I complied it from git since I couldn't find a package for Xubuntu
14.04 (Trusty). I included the latest patch for the MSI bug:
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34989#c16
The same error occurred. Installing various native DLLs with winetricks
(identified with Dependency Walker) failed to change the result.

The game crashes immediately on start. Can be reproduced with the demo version
too. The game can be launched directly, without Steam running.
Beside the Bermuda game, I have 2 more games on Steam that crash with the same
backtrace. Maybe it's only a coincidence that all these games require
msscript.ocx to start. The crash reported here occurs sooner, so it's doesn't
matter whether msscript.ocx is installed or not.
I remembered that those games used to start properly in previous Wine versions
(provided msccript.ocx was installed).
The result of the regression test is probably not the cause of the crash, but
it could have surfaced a different bug in Wine. I talked about it on irc with
Nikolay and he also has doubts that this commit has anything with the crash.
However, I verified that those games don't crash prior to
commit 50ad765cd604630214d87f9e696d7da216c0f814

When trying to install Cygwin 2.4.1 in Wine, the post install invocations of
bash.exe and dash.exe crash immediately. If you manually copy a cygwin
executable and the cygwin1.dll from a working Windows system into Wine, and try
to execute it in Wine, it fails in exactly the same way. Even an application
that immediately returns 0 in main will show this crash.
It looks to be an issue somewhere in the application load step.
To reproduce:
1. Install Wine stable.
2. Install minimal cygwin system. You will get lots of crashes during the post
install step. Each one seems to take about a minute to popup though.
I am including a sample of one of the crash logs, but they all look exactly the
same.

See launchpad bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/702452
In Ubuntu Unity applications run via wine have the default wine-icon (the
wine-bottle) in the "Running Program-Icons"-bar (The Task-bar).
Thus all applications are getting "stacked" under one icon.
To stop this behavior you have to write in each (generated) .desktop-file the
Line:
StartupWMClass=<name of the exe-file>
Example Firefox:
StartupWMClass=firefox.exe
Wine should do this automatically after I installed my program, so the users
would get the expected Icons and "Stacking-Mechanism" in Unity.

1) Insert an image in a any Word document
2) Right click the image
3) Try changing the line/text wrap of the image to an item from the submenu
4) If you hover over an item in the submenu, it disappears. This should not
happen before a click.
If you navigate away (to another, native Linux window) before opening the
submenu, the context menu stays and you can open the submenu in the native
application (LOL!). That gives you more time.
A better workaround is to use the lint: Markup -> Text Wrapping icon and then
choose from the list.
What's causing this strange behaviour?

When starting the serial port sample (MiniComPort.exe) it throws

By looking at the source code it seems that
System.IO.Ports.SerialPort.GetPortNames returns an empty list.
If I ignore the exception, the rest of the MiniComPort program works. It can
send and receive some bytes.
Inotifywait revealed that NovaLCT Mars doesn't open the ttyUSB device like the
MiniComPort.exe does.
I also tried with wine-mono-4.5.6 but neither of those programs starts that
way.

Summary: CSPro 6.2 CAPI mode has different window/keystroke
behaviour between native windows and wine

Version: 1.9.6
Hardware: x86-64

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

When running CSPro 6.2 in CAPI mode, during popup answer appeared and focus,
wine cannot catch any keystrokes (tab, shift-tab, number etc.), except I change
the focus to main entry windows. In native Windows OS keystrokes (tab,
shift-tab, number etc.) accept normaly in both popup or main window focus.
How to test:
1. Download and install CSPro 6.2 here
https://www.census.gov/population/international/files/cspro/cspro62.exe
2. Run CSPro application (listed "CSPro 6.2" in menu)
3. Open existing application (other files)
4. Goto to folder Examples\1 - Data Entry\Simple CAPI
5. Open Simple CAPI.ent
6. When Simple CAPI application opened, run it by pressing CTRL+R
7. in file dialog, Let's default data to "Simple CAPI Data.dat" and press OPEN
8. Enter any number in Household ID, press ENTER
9. Press any name in Name field and press ENTER
10. Now the popup windows appeared [HERE IS THE POINT OF THE PROBLEM]
In native Windows windows OS, I can press 1 or 2 to answer popup windows, but
in Wine I must click main windows first to allow entering 1 or 2, if the focus
still in popup windows it's not accept any keystrokes.

Summary: TTN_SHOW is not implemented correctly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.34
Hardware: x86

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: comctl32
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: pietro10(a)mac.com
Distribution: ---
According to MSDN
(https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb760314%28v=vs.85…),
TTN_SHOW in comctl32.dll >= 4.70 has special logic for allowing customization
of tooltip size and position:
Version 4.70. To display the tooltip in its default location, return zero.
To customize the tooltip position, reposition the tooltip window with the
SetWindowPos function and return TRUE.
Note: For versions earlier than 4.70, there is no return value.
This is needed to implement in-place tooltips, such as the ones you get when
you hover the mouse over a listview in report mode (with LVS_EX_LABELTIP) or a
tree view (by default, it seems), or in this picture:
https://i-msdn.sec.s-msft.com/dynimg/IC510747.png.
However, wine currently does not follow these rules. According to
http://source.winehq.org/source/dlls/comctl32/tooltips.c?!v=wine-1.7.39#0621,
it just sends the TTN_SHOW notification, ignoring the return value entirely,
then proceeds to set the default window position anyway. As such, in-place
tooltips will simply appear where they would if they were regular tooltips
(underneath the mouse cursor).
I personally tested with wine 1.7.34 (or some commit around that one) from
source and Windows XP and Windows 7 with my own in-place tooltips as part of a
table control of my own creation. On real Windows, Common Controls 5 and 6 both
have TTN_SHOW working properly (but given it says 4.70 I'm not surprised).
I'm not the first to notice wrong tooltip behavior. Someone (I don't know if
it's just a user or one of the authors of Cardbox) noticed that Cardbox relied
on another aspect of TTN_SHOW that wine doesn't imitate: real Windows computes
the default tooltip position before sending the notification, not after (as
wine still does). In fact, he noticed this back in 2007! I'm not sure why a bug
here was never filed...
https://cardboxeverywhere.wordpress.com/2007/12/11/programming-note-tooltip…
I don't have a minimal test program on hand (the source speaks for itself) but
here's something Raymond Chen wrote on the subject that can be constructed into
one: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/oldnewthing/archive/2006/06/26/647365.aspx
Thanks.

The exe is compiled in multi-byte character set (not Unicode). When input
Chinese, the characters become corrupted.
I looked into this problem, and found that it is due to
dlls/user32/message.c@get_input_codepage
The "GetKeyboardLayout" returns a wrong language identifier 0x0404 (Chinese
Traditional), but it should be 0x0804 (Chinese Simplified). This may be mac
driver's problem.
And I don't think the 1st parameter of "GetLocaleInfoW" should be the language
identifier of the keyboard (returned from "GetKeyboardLayout"). It should be
constant "LOCAL_USER_DEFAULT". The keyboard language identifier does not always
match the code page of a program. The keyboard language identifier can be
changed by switching input method, but code page of a program can not change.

Typically, I widen the Name column so I can see longer filenames, and sort

Notice how the columns reset to the default widths and sort order. This becomes
very annoying when opening one file after another, checking/pasting data, then

Summary: Comctl32 status control uses tooltip window wrongly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.35
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: comctl32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: us(a)edmeades.me.uk
I've been debugging a private application and tracked down the source of a trap
to the way the status control initializes and uses the tooltip control.
The application in question traps because it receives a WM_CREATE message for
the tooltip window and calls GetWindowLong against an hwnd for a value it
should have set earlier - this fails but the code doesnt notice, and results in
a trap.
On windows, the status control does not create the tooltip until the first
WM_MOUSEMOVE event, and hence all application initialization would have
finished in my case. You can clearly see this by use of a simple application
with a statusbar control set to have a tooltip and text, and then use SPY++ to
monitor the window creation messages.
Note this also shows a 2nd problem which is that the status control passes the
tooltip text to the tooltip window to manage. This is wrong, because using the
status bar you can set and then get the tooltip text before the tooltip window
is ever created. Additionally, SPY++ shows that the notify messages (NEEDTEXT
type) are sent to the status window when the tooltip needs the text, both of
which mean that the status control should manage the text.
I have a simple application which has a button for get tip, set tip text, and
using it you can see the behaviour above. It doesnt replicate the trap but you
can see the behavious using it - you dont get a WM_CREATE for the tooltip until
such time as you move the mouse into the statusbar area on windows.
Simple workarounds for me: winetricks comctl32, or modifying the
STATUSBAR_WMCreate method to something like "if (0 && dwStyle & SBT_TOOLTIPS)
{" to prevent the tooltip altogether.

After AlwaysOffscreen has become enabled by default, games such as GTAIII and
GTAVC (which are unaware of FSAA) can't benefit from nvidia antialiasing
settings out of the box. I'm not sure if it's intended result, but despite it
being possible to disable it back, new default seems no good to me as e.g. on
Windows it's enough to set antialiasing in the driver utility and there's no
need to change D3D configuration.
Maybe wine should check whether default render target is multisampled and
toggle the default?

In some menus, (anything but the inital main menu, save / load game menus, and
world map), there are rapidly changing and rainbow colored polygons being made
all over the game's window. They seem to change based on what is actually being
rendered by the game and the user can influcnce them to a degree by changing
the current selected menu item.
In addition there seems to be missing textures for some menu entries, although
the menu entries can still be selected and used.
This happens in both wine-1.7.13 and wine-1.7.16.
Some hardware info:
OS: Fedora 20 x86_64
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX+
Drivers: akmod-nvidia-331.49-2.fc20.x86_64 (From rpmfusion)
I did have to install some directshow filters (K-Lite Codec Pack 10.4.0) as the
game attempts to play several mpeg 1 videos before the main menu, and will
crash with an error message if it is unable to play them. Even with gstreamer
installed properly it crashes, so the filters were necessary.
Attached are two examples of a broken menu, and what it's supposed to look
like.

Install and run Ziff-Davis PC Benchmarks WinBench 96
(on the Winstone 32 cd-rom).
Start it with
cd .wine/drive_c/ZDBENCH/WB96
wine WB96
Get past the hangs described in bug 12267 by killing and restarting twice.
Run the "Disk Tests". Get past the abort
"A DOS file operation that was supposed to fail succeeded during the test.
The following information is for ZDBOp use:
Drive: C Operation: GetFileAttrib
Script Location: 0d0b11 0

by applying the patch
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2009-January/068579.html
The test runs for a long time, then tries to delete its temporary
directory, C:\~WBDM.TMP, but fails with the dialog
and the app aborts with
"A DOS file operation failed during the test.
The following information is for ZDBOp use:

Looking at the log, it seems as if Wine trips over its shoelaces
when the app is doing its recursive directory list,
and does not tell the app about one directory,
C:\~WBDM.TMP\MGA\CPANEL. As a result, the app doesn't
delete its contents, and when the app then tries to
delete C:\~WBDM.TMP\MGA, it fails with 'directory not empty'.
INT21_FindHelper looks awfully tricky. It seems to have
a loop to skip over some directory entries, and maybe this
is firing improperly here. The code seems to date from
2003-11-14, mostly written by Eric Pouech in

Summary: Fake BIOS unable to render text in graphics mode

ReportedBy: flerchjj(a)ieee.org
Fake BIOS interrupt 10h service number 9 has routines to handle character
displaying in a text mode terminal window, but no code exist for handling
graphics modes. No text is therefore displayed in graphics modes. Currently
only 256 color modes (and possibly linear memory 16 color modes) are supported
as graphics modes & these should be fixed first.
Currently Wine tests for text mode by looking at color depth (Wine 1.1.6) and
calls to this BIOS service could cause Fake VGA memory corruption in monochrome
graphics modes (which aren't supported anyways). That is a separate issue but
the patches for it need to be applied before addressing this issue.
I would suggest a use of the OEM_FIXED_FONT, which I believe is defined in GDI,
and converting it to a bitmaps of the proper resolution for desired chars.
GetStockObject(OEM_FIXED_FONT), GetObject, SelectObject, wglUseFontBitmap may
all be useful functions, but I'll have to investigate more later.

Trace log and backtrace of crash
VDMSound is used on NT-based Windows systems for emulating audio cards (digital
and midi) for DOS apps. Trying to run the provided dosdrv.exe results in an
illegal instruction when trying to load vddloader.dll. The instruction it seems
to crash on is
popl %gs
in the vm86_[enter|return] assembly functions (in ntdll/signal_i386.c).
I have an AMD X2 4200+ CPU which is a 64-bit CPU, however I'm running a full
32-bit system (32-bit Linux kernel and all; nothing 64-bit). I should also
probably note that the app I'm trying to run through VDMSound (Daggerfall) does
not crash with an illegal instruction, but complains that it can't run under
Windows 3.1, and exits. VDMSound is supposed to help allow the game to run
under real Win2k/XP.
Attached is a +all,-gdi,-syslevel,-heap winedebug trace, along with the winedbg
dump at the very end. You can search for "code=c000001d" to find the point
where it crashes. For some reason, some of the threads' traces in the log get
intermingled at points, and I can't seem to help it much.

http://www.farmanager.com/history/far2.x86.msi
I git-bisect'ed it and found it to be a regression of the following commit:
commit ea07c310ecfee6b301e7af8413760eb446e6f184
Author: Alexandre Julliard <julliard(a)winehq.org>
AuthorDate: 2012-09-04 13:34:15 +0200
Subject: winex11: Create the whole window at window creation time.
It only occurs under X11. On Mac, using the native Mac driver, everything runs
well.
I have found it easier to reproduce under Ubuntu 14.04 / Linux Mint 17.x than
under Ubuntu 16.04 / Linux Mint 18.x, although it does crash under the later
Linux OS, also. (Just less frequently so.)
Moreover, I have found it easier to reproduce if the wineconsole height is
larger. It works ok most of the time if the height is 40 characters, but it
crashes much more frequently if the height is, say, 60 characters.
The behavior is roughly the same at the time of regression
(wine-1.5.12-36-gea07c310ec) and as of latest version (wine-1.9.17).
I noticed two types of crashes: one that has __clone() calling itself until the
stack runs out, and the other that doesn't have any __clone() calls at all. See
the attachments.

The WinZip 18 installer comes to a window with a "Decline" and "Next" button.
This is, presumably, where as licence should be.
Clicking next prints:
fixme:ieframe:ControlSite_OnFocus (0x2a72148)->(1)
fixme:imm:ImmGetOpenStatus (0x14da768): semi-stub
None of the buttons do anything and the installation cannot continue.
Tried mshtml, ieframe, wininet, ie6, ie7 and ie8 but they either don't make any
difference or cause their own problems.
On occasion, following a failure, the installer will ask you if you would like
to go ahead and install the .msi on its own (which would be nice), but when
saying "Yes" the download immediately fails.
Note: there is an invisible button to the right of the language selection
drop-down. Probably related.

Hello,
So I have gotten World of Warcraft running perfectly well in wine-staging
1.9.16. In fact, the performance is excellent at 4k with my GTX 1070.
However, there is some nasty graphical glitches/artifacting going on.
I contacted Blizzard, and they said that it's a Wine problem, not with their
OpenGL implementation.
I made a video of the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHOmLNZ2ejY
What I expect to happen:
- For World of Warcraft to run in OpenGL without said graphical glitches
What did happen:
- Again, I was very surprised from the performance. So if the game can be run
without these glitches, I am as good as golden.
- As a side note, running in Directx 9 does not have these issues, but the
performance is quite worse.
Hoe to reproduce:
- I have a GTX 1070 using proprietary drivers, tested the 367.35 and 370 beta.I
presume this would happen with AMD and other GPU's.
- Launch WoW with patch 7.0.3, and make sure OpenGL is the selected API.
I don't know what logs I could attach, so please let me know if you need any
and I will attach.

I tested Trackmania Nations Forever and noticed that many of the textures have
a very low resolution. Even the small time display (top bar in main menu /
in-game) seems blurred. Since I could not remember having such problems the
last time I tested the application, I did a bisect and found the guilty commit:
commit 90909951154e1d663bebc134263b4025eacbdabd

The game uses ddraw only to detect the available memory while the actual
drawing is done using d3d9. See attachment for a +ddraw log. The test was done
on a Geforce GTX 660 with 2GB VRAM and 1280x1024 as desktop resolution.

I recently loaded Linux Mint 17 on my mother's computer and one of the programs
that she likes to use is CreataCard 3. I loaded this program on her machine
using PlayOnLinux and the latest version of Wine and the program almost runs
perfectly. The only issue that it's having is that the cards are printing in
grayscale on her color HP PSC1410 printer. The same thing happened when I
installed Hallmark Card Studio on her machine. Her printer prints full color
images just fine using other Linux programs. I tested it with another printer
and got the same result. I even tried testing it with an older version of
Linux Mint 13 and it still printed in grayscale so this leads me to believe
that it's a Wine issue. I think this is the same issue that was reported in
bug# 8428 that was abandoned.

Summary: Physx 3.4 new GRB feature (Gpu rigid bodies) doesn't
work on GPU on WineStaging 2.2
Product: Wine
Version: 2.2
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: rtfss1(a)gmail.com

Hi,
Physx 3.4 features a new GRB pipeline running almost all Physx engine features
on GPU with great speedup..
Currently it's in late beta:
https://github.com/NVIDIAGameWorks/PhysX-3.4
you have to register to obtain but seems final public version will be coming
next week GDC..
anyway I compiled this SDK and run a GRB sample..
in Windows runs with great speedup on a GTX970..
Running Wine-Staging 2.2 which supports Physx get:
fixme:nvapi:unimplemented_stub function 0x36e39e6b is unimplemented!
No PhysX capable GPU suggested.
If you have a PhysX capable GPU, verify that PhysX is not set to CPU in the
NVIDIA Control Panel.
..\..\SimulationController\src\ScScene.cpp (665) : warning : GPU solver
pipeline failed, switching to software
..\..\SimulationController\src\ScScene.cpp (679) : warning : GPU Bp pipeline
failed, switching to software
so seems nvapi function 0x36e39e6b returns exactly the toogle in Nvidia Control
Panel on Windows of running Physx on CPU/GPU as if I change on Windows that
toggle to force running Physx on CPU i get exactly same output:
No PhysX capable GPU suggested.
If you have a PhysX capable GPU, verify that PhysX is not set to CPU in the
NVIDIA Control Panel.
..\..\SimulationController\src\ScScene.cpp (665) : warning : GPU solver
pipeline failed, switching to software
..\..\SimulationController\src\ScScene.cpp (679) : warning : GPU Bp pipeline
failed, switching to software
can nvapi function 0x36e39e6b be implemented so GRB works?

Just a couple of nav improvements for the winelib guide.
http://winehq.org/site/docs/winelib-guide is a 404. It would be nice to make it
a redirect to http://winehq.org/site/docs/winelib-guide/index - complying with
the Jump to Parent feature in some browsers/browser addons and dealing with one
less 404.
Home/Up links are only at the bottom of the page which is very annoying. A
small breadcrumb atop of the page would be very useful.

Joysticks and gamepads are not detected in Kerbal Space Program, and cannot be
set as control devices in the games settings so they cannot be use in the game.
Kerbal Space Program is made in the Unity game engine, which uses rawinput for
cross platform compatibility, and while the rawinput patch that was added in
Wine 1.5.13 (
http://gitorious.org/chakra-packages/lib32/blobs/89c459680eb9a67ed8bf44c1ca…
) provides keyboard and mouse support, it doesn't work for joysticks.
Now that rawinput support is integrated, it'd help a lot if the support were
expanded to include sticks and pads.

FindFirstFileExW() has no support for the FIND_FIRST_EX_CASE_SENSITIVE flag.
Instead it currently returns INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE.

The attached patch does not introduce correct handling, but makes the flag
ignored and throws a warning (similar to other places).

Screenshot showing the broken graphics
When playing Kotor1 with wine there are always distorted outdoor graphics when
"grass" is enabled.
See http://i.imgur.com/JGxfaDI.jpg and attachment.
This has been mentioned on the according wine page
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4124
I tried the "normal", staging with csmt and the D3D9 wine backend with exactly
the same issue. I tried wine 1.7.45 and 1.7.55 together with mesa git.
I even created an apitrace gl-trace:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B42CQY2wGHumcXJyZTZRRWxVVWs/view?usp=shari…
which is broken on both Linux, Windows and AMD, Intel. While at the same time,
the game runs fine natively on Windows with both vendors.
As this is independent of the wine-backend (default, d3d9/nine, csmt) and the
graphics card, I highly suspect this to be a bug with wine.
For reference, also see https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91729

fg-winxp-1sp and fg-winxp-2sp (for instance none of the fg-winxp-2spie7 and up
VMs is affected).

reopen https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34684
with more details.
*
install latest raidcall from the http://raidcall.com/ and login.
Create a group, try to join it, raidcall crashes.
or try to test sound in settings.
*
the problem seems related to pulseaudio/winmm.
there is no crash without alsa-plugins-pulse package.
i get dozen of
"fixme:winmm:MXD_GetControlDetails What should the sw-side mixer controls map
to?"
right before crash.
crashes in 1.7.45, 1.5.31,
works fine in 1.5.1
i can bisect further if anyone wants to look into this.

Since lastest versions of Wine in Linux (seen in Wine v1.6.2 with PureBasic
32bits), lauching the online help of PureBasic with "F1" crashes the IDE.
It is a regression since it does not happens with older versions of Wine like
1.4.1.
To reproduce, you just have to download the demo version of PureBasic here :
http://www.purebasic.com/download/PureBasic_Demo.zip
Install it and launch the IDE then press "F1" keyboard key.

Summary: Custom textbox/combobox fields in a listview

Hi,
The use of a custom listview control (e.g. xlistctrl) with user drawn controls
like editable text fields and comboboxes there are various drawing bugs and you
can't properly 'enter' the control. I mean that in case of a combobox you can't
select custom values and in case of a text field it isn't always editable.
An example of a control which shows the problem is at
http://www.codeproject.com/KB/list/xlistctrl.aspx
