I'm assuming they're hacking off unnecessary bits from the executable format to get within their size constraints, and wine is getting confused. To work around bug 41670 issue 'wine net stop BEService' command from another console after the window "Starting BattlEye Service..." shows up and wait a bit. The app will detect this and restart the helper service which in turn will start the kernel service. See the attached log of a crash of the newer version. Hope that helps.
