It seems that since wine 1.7 (yes, we don't upgrade wine very often, especially
when it is working!), visual studio output is not respected anymore.
Before, when cl.exe failed and displayed an error or a warning message, we
would get the name of the error and then the location. When testing Wine 3.3,
it seems that we don't get the location and subsequent error messages anymore.
This seems to happen with VS2013 and VS2017 at least.

wine steam.exe &>log.txt
In The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, NPC dialogue audio does not play when NPCs are
talking. The NPCs do not remain static, they interact with the player and their
mouths move, there is just no audio. I enabled subtitles when an NPC was
talking to me, and I did see them for a brief period of time.
For those familiar with the game, the opening sequence goes like this:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/615805-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/faqs/699…
When I enabled subtitles, I could see that the text was appearing way way way
faster than it normally would in game. For instance, when Ralof would normally
be doing his opening lines of:
Ralof: "Hey, you. You're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border,
right? Walked right into that Imperial ambush, same as us, and that
thief over there."
I saw the subtitles corresponding to:
Ralof: Hey, what village are you from, horse thief?
Lokir: Why do you care?
Ralof: A Nord's last thoughts should be of home.
Lokir: Rorikstead. I'm...I'm from Rorikstead.
This is a regression as of Wine 3.5, as this functionality worked like a charm
in previous releases of Wine. I suspect that this is related to Bug #38668
since the merge of Wine-Staging and Wine-Dev, but I don't want to speculate. I
should note that Skyrim (the vanilla title) hasn't exhibited this issue in my
experience.
Attached is the log file from running the following command in a brand new,
fresh installation of Solus:
drew@drew-desktop ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam $ wine steam.exe

This is a weird issue. It happens only when two external monitors are
connected, and only with specific applications. I am using Wine 3.x (tried 3.0,
3.4, and 3.5) on OSX with the MAC (quartz) driver (no X11).
For my tests I am using IDA 7.0 Freeware (64bit app) for Windows (available
here https://www.hex-rays.com/products/ida/support/download_freeware.shtml).
Unlike other (older) versions of the same application, this app opens up on my
secondary monitor.
This is not an issue per-se since I can still drag the window on my other
monitor. What is weird is that when I try to open a menu (contextual or from
the menu bar), that menu appears on the secondary monitor, meaning that I don't
see anything being displayed over the main windows (which I have dragged on my
primary monitor in the meanwhile).
If I move the main window to the secondary monitor everything works.
Any idea why this behavior is happening?

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links (Steam Windows release) used to work properly on Wine 3.0,
3.1 and 3.2. (as well as wine-staging 2.21)
However, since Wine 3.3 (this includes Wine 3.5 and Wine-staging 3.5), the game
crashes shortly after i execute it.
(First, a window with a white screen appears then it quickly crashes after
that. Normally, it would show the Konami logo after that.)
After testing each commit between Wine 3.2/3.3, i found that commit
97b0907439183cb86e6c05a4d8c9bf14d73805c7 (ntdll: Allow loading 32-bit IL-only
binaries on 64-bit.) is causing Duel Links to crash.
After i reverted that commit, the game works great with Wine 3.5. (just like it
used to)
Seems like the heuristic is falling in this case.
If you need to test it, you can download the game for free on Steam.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/601510/YuGiOh_Duel_Links/
The game's engine is Unity 5.6.1p.
My Linux Distribution is Devuan Unstable with Linux-Libre 4.15.

Had a working installation of Origin on Wine 2.21 x64. Update was pushed out on

no avail.
Decided to try a fresh wine prefix. Tested with 2.22/3.1/3.2 (64bit), 3.1/3.2

Backtrace is attached.
Not sure if I can provide any more debug info.

In Skyrim Special Edition, when a player is supposed to interact with an NPC,
nothing happens. The player does not hear any audio, and cut scenes associated
with a given interaction do not play. Furthermore, the NPC's don't move their
mouths is if they are trying to talk.
The issue is best described as if the characters don't know that they're
supposed to do anything. They just sit there and nothing happens.
Unfortunately, this breaks the game, as the player cannot make it through the
opening tutorial.
Please see this video showing what the player is to expect when the opening cut
scene ends: https://youtu.be/p3teMHOfmsg?t=3m37s The player is removed from the
cart, which brings them to the character selection screen.
When running under WINE, the player remains sitting in the cart with the 3
other NPCs, and nothing happens when the cart comes to a stop.
Outside of that, the audio in the game appears to work correctly. Sound effects
such as horses grunting, and the wheels of carts rolling along cobblestone
paths play as they should.
I have attached a log file when the following command was executed in the Steam
directory '$ wine Steam.exe &>log.txt'.
I also have a screenshot showing the cart ride cut scene, where normally player
would hear the stormcloak soldier saying "Hey, you, finally awake...etc":
(Please see https://youtu.be/p3teMHOfmsg?t=43s for an example.) Where in my
screenshot, said soldier just sits there and doesn't say a word.

Jack's Attic, an old educational game, fails to launch due to a claimed lack of
virtual memory.
The application calls GlobalMemoryStatus, and adds together the reported values
for TotalPageFile and TotalVirtual, then does a signed comparison with 3MB.
However, GlobalMemoryStatus contains code to limit the total virtual memory to
0x7ffdffff, and also contains code to limit the total paged memory to
0x7fffffff *if* the application is detected to be an old binary (just by
comparing version numbers). These, added together, yield 0xfffdfffe, which is
negative and so less than 3MB.
The game works fine on Windows, because the reported virtual memory isn't
limited (and so the addition wraps around and remains positive). This is
Wine-specific code which is included to help other applications work where they
wouldn't on Windows. Unfortunately, it causes this application to fail.
Perhaps a better solution would be to use a registry key?
