Text in the game is hardly readable. The game uses custom fonts, there are 4
different .ttf files in the installed game's folder.
The text of the tutorial is completely messed up.
Other text in the game (seemingly with other fonts) is more readable but there
are dots above certain letters.

Now that bug #24725 has been fixed, I tried the other King's Bounty games
(Armored Princess and it's expansion Crossworlds), using only native d3dx9
dlls.
With Wine 1.5.5 both games crash on startup with
>wine: Call from 0x7b839b42 to unimplemented function d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXQuaternionSquadSetup, aborting
Native d3dx9_36.dll is a workaround.
There is a demo for KB:AP available on Steam:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/3170
Other, non-Steam demos can be found elsewhere on the net, but they're protected
with Starforce as far as I remember from my previous testings.

shell script to set up the environment & run the program
Microsoft provides sample applications for use with their Tablet SDK.
I am running a sample that allows basic ink writing and recognition under
Wine-1.1.1.
For it to work, InkObj.DLL and Wisptis.exe binaries are required. I install
them via the Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer. InkObj requires unimplemented
functions of GdiPlus, so I install it using winetricks.
Also some text recognizer must be installed. I own Tablet XP (1 license) so I
copy a recognizer dll and another required file from my XP partition to ~/.wine
and register them.
Now when I launch "BasicRecognition.exe", it fails in it's initialization
sequence (judging by the source code) and gives me some output.
The Installation script and output log are attached.
Seems to be some OLE (or RPC) problems as several are mentioned in the output.

Terminal messages from launch of client and immediately exiting.
This is a regression starting at 1.3.32 in the virtual world client "There".
This is still present as of 1.3.34, even though that release fixed similar
issues.
The text is not visible in most dialogs/windows, including IM windows, the
Organizer, exit confirmation dialog, various text entry dialogs, basically any
windows that can be dragged outside of the client window. I think, but not
certain, that it is related to Qt. In text entry dialogs, the cursor can be
seen and it moves when typing. It is worth noting that the windows have
transparency as long as they are completely inside the client window.
Text appears correctly in other areas such as the menu, Communicator (buddy
list), ChangeMe, and elements connected to the 3D world. The buddy list and
ChangeMe looks identical in style to the problem windows, except they are only
rendered inside the client window. I'm certain that most of those elements use
Flash. From my understanding, the developers plan to transition all Flash
elements to Qt shortly after it opens to the public.
The client can be downloaded from http://there.com/download and the issue can
be reproduced without an account by launching the client and then exiting,
where an affected confirmation dialog is displayed.

Then I can minimize the window, it goes down to the taskbar and is still

Summary: GTA 5 clients cannot connect to each other behind home

Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

Distribution: ---
When the game is running, it seems to be unable to do anything that requires
the ability to host a direct connection. In most circumstances this is not
noticeable as the game will fall back to using rockstar servers when direct is
not available.
However, if you have multiple players behind the same home router, they will
experience symptoms of this issue, as the game expects to be able to use
p2p/direct connectivity between clients on a home network.
This includes:
* Inability to join an invite-only or friend-only session hosted by either
* Inability to join a public (or hosted by another player) session if either
player is already in it; as soon as one connects, the other cannot join, and
vice-versa. This can be worked around consistently by disabling UPnP on the
home router. Workaround only works for joining public sessions.
* Inability to join a heist hosted by either (even when started from a public
or 3rd-party hosted session)
These were tested and confirmed with 4 accounts at 4 computers at 2 locations.
Tested with respective firewalls enabled/disabled. Players at different
locations could connect to each other without issue; players at the same
location could not.
This issue does not manifest if one of the computers is Windows [tested W10
build 1803]. It can join or be joined to local friend-only/private sessions as
you'd expect.
====Steps used to produce logs (on Majaro Linux)====

Launch game in Story Mode, then launch a Friend-only Online session.
Once both are at this point, try connecting either of them to the other.
GTA On-screen Messages:
Alert: Getting GTA Online session details
Alert: Unable to connect to game session.
========================
This affects both wine and wine-staging, but I could not get logs from vanilla
wine as GTA 5 in recent versions does not get past the socialclub launcher.
This also affects Proton. I've limited the logs scope to just wine for this
report, but you can find the related Proton reports here:

After working around Bug #31589 (attachment 41923) Silverlight 4.x is able to
individualize; however, Silverlight 5.x still has problems. It appears to
create the individualization files and then delete them after it fails to
connect to a named pipe:
0059:KERNEL32.CreateFileA(020ab990
"\\\\.\\pipe\\lrpc\\keysvc",c0000000,00000000,00000000,00000003,00000000,00000000)
ret=7e87340e
0059:Ret KERNEL32.CreateFileA() retval=ffffffff ret=7e87340e
This named pipe business is not attempted with Silverlight 4.x, so creating
this pipe would probably do the trick. A little googling finds this
documentation:

Summary: FindFirstFileExW believes every directory entry has
been read if NtQueryDirectoryFile underfills buffer
Product: Wine

When using USVFS (through ModOrganizer 2), it will hook NtQueryDirectoryFile,
and its implementation will occasionally underfill the buffer, even if there
are more directory entries to be read.
Due to this check in FindFirstFileExW:
if (!has_wildcard || info->data_len < info->data_size - max_entry_size)
{
...
info->data_size = 0; /* we read everything */
}
It will stop FindNextFileW from reading more. Windows doesn't seem to exhibit
this behavior.
Removing the `info->data_len < info->data_size - max_entry_size` check allows
it to work properly.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any reference to why that check exists. My
best guess after looking through the source code is that it's an optimization,
as the code should still run fine if wine's NtQueryDirectoryFile implementation
underfills the buffer (therefore indicating that there are no more files needed
to be read).
So far I've tested many various applications with the check patched out, with
no obvious regressions.

Corel's homepage on 29-may-13. It unpacks the .msi files, but after this it
fails, getting no further. I first tried with wine 1.4.0 since that is what is
provided as default when you install wine on a Ubuntu 12.10 dist, subsequently
I updated it to 1.5.30, but, alas, to no avail - same result.

Probably unfair to compare, but as of late (sorry, do not have a bisected
commit) d3d12 performance in WoW is roughly 50% of that of DXVK w/d3d11
I use these two patches still tho, and have not tried without them:
https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=64022&action=diffhttps://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=63174&action=diff
(If the problem is solved, and these are not necessary anymore, please tell)
Preset 10, water and shadow a notch down. No MSAA (as MSAA is somewhat bugged
with vkd3d... creates seethrough textures some places).
vkd3d:
gpu usage: 32%
fps: 45
cpu usages per core: 0:74% / 1:56% /2-6:<40% (HT threads lower).
DXVK:
gpu usage: 53%
fps: 81
cpu usages per core: 0:82% / 1:73% / 2:64% /3-6:<50% (HT threads lower).
This is with a RTX2070 and Intel i7-8700K
I think there is some problem with the water effects, as when using DXVK it
looks "normal", and effect changes related to ingame setting. With vkd3d it
seems its just "low" that make a difference in appearance.
What kind of logs is needed to provide some useful information about this?
Doing a trace log will fill GB's pretty quick, but i should be able to do a
login and change water effects perhaps, and see if that provides something
useful?

Occurs with Corel WordPerfect Office X3 and WordPerfect Office 12.
Start installer. Note font (print snapshot or whatever). Install application,
Quit installer. Start installer again. Font displayed is different.
With WordPerfect Office X3, the effect is obvious as the 'wrong' font is a
symbol font. With WordPerfect Office 12, the 'wrong' font is very narrow (I
think this may have previsouly been reported as <<poor rendering>>).
Problem affects not just the installers but also service packs and the
applications themselves (particularly Presentations). I would expect it
affects all installed applications.
To confirm the problem ...
1. remove all references to Corel installed fonts from system.reg which ever
way you choose but the following works:
cd .wine
mv system.reg system.reg~
sed -e '/TrueType.*C:.*\.TTF/d' -e '/TrueType.*C:.*\.ttf/d' system.reg~ >
system.reg
2. move Corel installed fonts to one side for a moment:
mv drive_c/windows/Fonts drive_c/windows/Fonts.wpo
mkdir drive_c/windows/Fonts
3. Start installer. Font is back to what is was before installation. Quit
installer.
3. Put back a bad font:
cp -p drive_c/windows/Fonts.wpo/WPCO03N_.TTF drive_c/windows/Fonts
4. Start installer. Symbol font makes screen indecypherable.
5. Try other fonts. Not all override the 'good' font. MTEXTRA.TTF and
WPHV04N_.TTF do.
Downloads ?
WordPerfect Office X3:
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=uk/ProcessLayout&lc=en&ppg=…
Professional (aka not Trial) Edition is 'fun' to install. See bug 14106.
WordPerfect Office 12:
Not available for download anymore as far as I can tell. Perhaps one of the
nice people who contributed to bug 2547 can help.
Standard (aka not Trial) Edition installs nicely under Wine 1.0.

Dope Wars 2.2 bad rendering on Wine
When playing Dope Wars 2.2 on wine-1.3.17-173-g6eed4c4, the portion of the game
window that shows the available weapons in the player's inventory has some
distortion that makes the text difficult to read, whereas the text appears
correctly when the game is run on Windows 7. There is no standard error output
of interest.

terminal output (Arx Fatalis demo)
This will be probably a dupe of bug #34467, once regression testing is done in
#34467, because terminal output produced by Fallout/Fallout 2 before crashing
is very similar to the one in bug #34467.
Arx Fatalis also crashes on start, can be reproduced with the demo version as
well. The following error message is shown by the game:
"A DDraw object has a non-zero reference
count (meaning it was not properly cleaned up)."
Fallout and Fallout 2 (GOG.com versions) crash when I start a new game, but
with a different backtrace.
The result of the regression testing:

Hello,
after getting past bug 16879 one encounters this one.
----
Prerequisite:
1. clean WINEPREFIX
2. sh winetricks -q dotnet20
3. download .NET 3.0 Framework installer from: http://download.microsoft.com
/download/4/d/a/4da3a5fa-ee6a-42b8-8bfa-ea5c4a458a7d/dotnetfx3setup.exe

4. export _SFX_CAB_SHUTDOWN_REQUEST=1 (workaround, see bug 9158)
5. wine ./dotnetfx3setup.exe
It might take a while until all required packages are downloaded using BITS.
Note: If you need to redo steps, backup the directory "dotnetfx304506.30" from
"c:\\windows\\temp" to a different location, remove ~/.wine, copy
"dotnetfx304506.30" again to "c:\\windows\\temp" to prevent BITS from
downloading over and over again.

This is a big blocker and getting WMI to work with Wine is imperative for .NET
3.0 and higher.
Of course this also useful for older .NET Frameworks
Roll-back, prepare clean WINEPREFIX again;-)
We need to install native WMI core 1.5 from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=AFE41F46-E213-4CBF…
Download wmicore
http://download.microsoft.com/download/platformsdk/wmicore/1.5/W9XNT4/EN-US…
(sha1sum: f7a36668eb6c82a28393637ffdf0ec6e8adfa6a1)
Make sure you set winver to NT 4.0 (don't forget to reset to default) and
execute the installer (I already have my own winetricks step for this):
--- snip ---
wine wmicore.exe
--- snip ---
The installer will then hang at some point "Configuring repository".
With winedbg one can see following processes:
--- snip ---
Wine-dbg>info process
pid threads parent executable (all id:s are in hex)
0000000c 5 0000000a 'services.exe'
0000000f 1 0000000a 'explorer.exe'

00000027 2 00000025 'GLBbab.tmp'
00000022 4 0000000c 'WinMgmt.exe'
--- snip ---
The problem is "WinMgmt.exe" which ought to be a service but due to Wine
insufficiency the service thinks it's a normal process not showing usual
service process behaviour as registering control handler and the like.
If you do 'wineserver -k' and try to start anything with Wine nothing will
happen until wineboot times out...
As quickfix, start regedit (wait until wineboot timeout) and set service start
type key for "WinMgmt" to manual start, e.g. "2" -> "3".
Also a kernel driver (service) that is installed with WMI "smbios" fails to
load but this currently harmless.
If we look now in "c:\\windows\\system32\\WBEM" we see the whole stuff
installed.
The logs in "logs" subdirs are not revealing much so we have to increase the
log level:
--- snip ---
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM]
"Logging"="1"
"Logging Directory"="C:\\windows\\system32\\WBEM\\Logs"
--- snip ---
LogLevel is 0 to turn off logging, a 1 to turn on logging, and a 2 for verbose
logging.
After that, we manually try to start the service:
--- snip ---
$ wine net start winmgmt
err:winedevice:ServiceMain driver L"smbios" failed to load
The Windows Management Instrumentation service is starting.

"WinMgmt bIsService = 0" is the culprit.
The process retrieves token information and checks if process token groups
contain "SECURITY_INTERACTIVE_RID" (-> normal process) or
"SECURITY_SERVICE_RID" (service process).
I think it's actually services.exe that adds the SECURITY_SERVICE_RID sid to
the newly created service process (token groups).
This requires some infrastructure, including wineserver.
I already quick-hacked a path to verify this and it works as expected, letting
the service successfully start ;-)

Summary: MTGA Launcher fails to download the game (regression)
Product: Wine
Version: 4.21
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: kernel32
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: sashok.olen(a)gmail.com

How to reproduce:
- create a 32-bit prefix
- download winetricks with new powershell verb
(https://github.com/Winetricks/winetricks/pull/1440)
- install these verbs into the prefix: powershell arial d3dcompiler_47
dotnet472
- set Windows version to 10
- install Magic: The Gathering Arena
- Launch MTGALauncher.exe
The launcher will try to download the game but then return "Oops! Something
went wrong while updating".
Seeing how this wasn't an issue before, I've run a bisect and found that
2c68c530afbe704698f5a38674e7c72806c7c07a (kernel32: Move file time functions to
kernelbase.) was the cause of the regression. Reverting that commit against
Wine 4.17 fixes the issue.
Should note that this doesn't happen with version set to "Windows 7".
Let me know if any logs will be needed from me with any specific debug
channels.

Output when running Halo Online and crash occurs.
After upgrading to Wine Staging 3.20 I noticed that Halo Online would hang as
soon as a I joined any multiplayer match. After some investigation, I noticed
that disabling the voice chat feature would cause the game to function
correctly.
With Wine Staging 3.19 the voice chat feature worked correctly.
I noticed in the release notes for 3.20 a stub DLL (qwave.dll) was added. This
was to fix Bug 46066. I believe this is causing the crash / hang with Halo
Online. It might also affect other games with in game voice chat
functionality.
I've attached the output from wine when running the game and when the crash
occurs.
The key line is:
wine: Call from 0x7b43e10c to unimplemented function qwave.dll.QOSCreateHandle,
aborting
Which then calls Audio Read timeouts, which cause the entire game to crash.
Thanks!

Hello folks,
required by various .NET-based apps from
https://github.com/google/sandbox-attacksurface-analysis-tools
--- quote ---
sandbox-attacksurface-analysis-tools
(c) Google Inc. 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018
Developed by James Forshaw
This is a small suite of tools to test various properties of sandboxes on
Windows. Many of the checking
tools take a -p flag which is used to specify the PID of a sandboxed process.
The tool will impersonate
the token of that process and determine what access is allowed from that
location. Also it's recommended
to run these tools as an administrator or local system to ensure the system can
be appropriately enumerated.
CheckExeManifest: Check for specific executable manifest flags.
CheckNetworkAccess: Check access to network stack.
NewProcessFromToken: Create a new process based on existing token.
TokenView: View and manipulate various process token values.
NtApiDotNet: A basic managed library to access NT system calls and objects.
NtObjectManager: A powershell module which uses NtApiDotNet to expose the NT
object manager.
ViewSecurityDescriptor: View the security descriptor from an SDDL string or an
inherited object.
--- quote ---
It's actually a pretty neat "testsuite" for native API, Wine could benefit from
it. I've already found 20+ bugs within one hour of playing with this (missing
exports, stubs, incomplete + incorrect impl. etc.).
Will create more tickets as time/mood permits ;-)

The crash only happens when effects quality is set to medium or high (can be
adjusted from the launcher or via game option).
The game requires native d3dx9_36.dll to prevent an early crash, due to
unimplemented function d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXCreateCubeTextureFromFileExA
The problem is present with Wine-1.0.1, 1.2.3...1.3.x
Steps to reproduce the problem in the demo:
1. Install the demo. Place msvbvm60.dll in the game directory. Also install
native d3dx9_36 via winetricks.
2. Start the launcher via AS_launcher.exe and go to <Options>. Make sure
effects are set to either medium or high. Click on <Save and Play>. (You can
also disable in-game music here if you find bug #28850 annoying).
3. When the main menu appears select campaign and initiate a mission. During
the loading stage a crash will happen.

After upgrading to Kubuntu Jaunty, City of Heroes characters show a horrible
staggering when you try move consistently in any direction. The character
animation resets at the interval equivalent to the keyboard delay.
So, it's as if the application is seeing you press the key over and over -
instead of holding it down.
Turning off keyboard repeat in the system options eliminates this issue.
Modifying the delay only slows the initial staggering.

continuation of bug 26016
I did more testing, trying to extract a pattern out of the crashes.
Unfortunately there is no clear pattern.
There was one crash log which gave me another idea though.

There was a damaged heap block located near the context structure for the
default queue callback.
MSDN: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa376956%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
--- quote ---
The SetupInitDefaultQueueCallback function builds the context structure that is
used by the default queue callback routine. It returns a void pointer to that
structure. This structure is essential for the default callback routine's
operation and must be passed to the callback routine. You do can this either by
specifying the void pointer as the context in a call to SetupCommitFileQueue,
or by specifying the void pointer as the context parameter when calling
SetupDefaultQueueCallback from a custom callback routine. This context
structure must not be altered or referenced by the setup application.
--- quote ---
What if these guys writing the update installers, distributing their own copy
of setupapi (updspapi) give a damn about MSDN and treat the context callback
structure not as opaque, possibly peek/modify structure members?
The context structured started at 0x001b70c0 .. the damaged part was at
0x1b70f0.
Unfortunately, I could not replicate the corruption pattern at this offset with
more tests.
I gave the callback context structure a larger block - 0x40 bytes to be safe.
The block was allocated with HEAP_ZERO_MEMORY to make sure that even if the
installer code peeks into structure it doesn't see garbage.
The current structure layout (member offsets) is most likely different from
their layout but that doesn't seem to play a role here.
With that change in place the crashes were gone.
I got a random heap crit sec hang out of several hundred tries though (maybe
unrelated?).
Austin, can you pad the structure here up to 0x40 bytes:
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blob/4d796458d0ed517d45adc57a1aedaf1c…

Hello,
after getting past bug 16878 one runs into next one.
Prerequisite:
1. clean WINEPREFIX
2. sh winetricks -q dotnet20
3. download .NET 3.0 Framework installer from: http://download.microsoft.com
/download/4/d/a/4da3a5fa-ee6a-42b8-8bfa-ea5c4a458a7d/dotnetfx3setup.exe

4. export _SFX_CAB_SHUTDOWN_REQUEST=1 (workaround, see bug 9158)
5. wine ./dotnetfx3setup.exe
It might take a while until all required packages are downloaded using BITS.
Note: If you need to redo steps, backup the directory "dotnetfx304506.30" from
"c:\\windows\\temp" to a different location, remove ~/.wine, copy
"dotnetfx304506.30" again to "c:\\windows\\temp" to prevent BITS from
downloading over and over again.

Hello,
NOTE: bug 16875 which covers two issues in setupapi.SetupGetTargetPathW needs
to be properly fixed for *both* cases, see "update.inf" snippet which is part
of this bug report.
After bug 16875 (and 16876) are fixed, the installer fails:
"c:\\windows\\temp\\dd_dotnetfx3error.txt":
--- snip ---
[01/11/09,11:36:24] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0: [2] Error: Installation

Obviously bug 12401 (which I have analyzed in bug 10601).
So the prerequisite expands.
1. clean WINEPREFIX
2. sh winetricks -q dotnet20
3. download .NET 3.0 Framework installer from: http://download.microsoft.com
/download/4/d/a/4da3a5fa-ee6a-42b8-8bfa-ea5c4a458a7d/dotnetfx3setup.exe
(sha1sum:
a566bcd2ffffc3842a95adc57f7df3f8cd11577f)
4. export _SFX_CAB_SHUTDOWN_REQUEST=1 (workaround, see bug 9158)
5. wine ./dotnetfx3setup.exe
After applying prerequisite the installer fails again:

that component is a needed prerequisite for .NET 3.0 Framework SP1, 3.5, 3.5

Fortunately can be reproduced without all the .NET installer mess: clean
WINEPREFIX, run the installer from link.
Local printer server has no name associated with it (NULL), leading to later

The TestBot updates the wineprefixes when it updates its base Wine source from
the daily Wine commits. The rest of the time it lets Wine deal with updating
the wineprefix is necessary. Furthermore Wine only updates the wineprefix when
wine.inf changes, which is the case for every Wine release.
The problem is that the wineprefix should also be updated when a patchset adds
a WINE_REGISTRY resource to an existing dll. Failing to do so may cause the
patchset tests to fail because the wineprefix is out of date.
See:
https://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2019-December/156914.html
Wineprefix updates are relatively slow compared to the execution time of most
tests (about 30s vs. < 1s) so it would be good not to have to do that for every
task. An alternative would be to force a wineprefix update when a task has
failures and gets rerun as a result (pass an option to the relevant VM-side
scripts).

Summary: app freezes when WM_KILLFOCUS creates modal dialog
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: user32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: efrias(a)syncad.com
Created an attachment (id=35159)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=35159)
simple example which produces the error
When a program brings up a modal dialog box in response to a WM_KILLFOCUS
message, the program will freeze. I've attached a simple test case, all
boilerplate except for:
case WM_KILLFOCUS:
MessageBox(hWnd, _T("Killing Focus"), _T("Note"), MB_OK);
in the main event loop. If you run the program and then give focus to another
application, the messagebox will pop up and then the program will become
unresponsive.
What is happening is:
- x11drv gets a FocusOut event and calls the event handler, which ends up
SendMessage-ing a WM_KILLFOCUS to the program.
- The programs's code creates a modal dialog like the MessageBox above, and
enters the dialog's event loop, which winds up calling GetMessage which calls
MsgWaitForMultipleObjectsEx to get more X11 events.
- X11DRV_MsgWaitForMultipleObjectsEx executes this:
if (data->current_event) mask = 0; /* don't process nested events
*/
where data->current_event is true since we're still handling the FocusOut
event. Since we're not processing nested events, we'll never be able to
process the usual events like keys or mouse events which could exit this nested
event loop.
This type of error occurs in a few places in our application, where a
WM_KILLFOCUS message to an edit box triggers some input validation and displays
an error on failure. This works correctly in the normal case, where the user
tabs out or clicks on another control in the dialog box containing the edit
control -- since everything stays in the same top-level window, there is no
FocusOut event from X11 and the WM_KILLFOCUS is generated internally by wine in
response to, say, a KeyEvent. I think these key or mouse events are just
posted to the windows message queue, and the X11 event handler has already
exited by the time the application gets around to processing the ensuing
WM_KILLFOCUS. But in the case where focus is lost by clicking outside the
dialog containing the edit control, the WM_KILLFOCUS is generated by the
FocusOut handler which is still executing, and we lock up.
I suspect this is related to bug 11595 "Notepad++ freezes if native application
changes a file it has open (dogfood)". My guess is in that case, a FocusIn
event triggers something like a WM_ACTIVATE, in which notepad++ notices a file
is changed and displays a messagebox asking if you want to reload. Since wine
is still processing the FocusIn event, the modal message loop's call to
MsgWaitForMultipleObjectsEx will never process any useful events because it's a
nested event. Our application's built-in text editor has this same problem.
I don't understand the event handling code well enough to propose a solution.
As a test, I allowed nested event processing and it solved the problem without
introducing any obvious errors, but I'm sure that check was in there for a
reason. It's probably better to keep the application code from being executed
from inside the event handler, if that's possible.

Bug #: 32058
Summary: Guild Wars 2 launcher freezes/hangs (unable to launch
game)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.15
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: x.egam.wodahs.x(a)gmail.com
CC: julliard(a)winehq.org
Classification: Unclassified
Once I updated wine to version 1.5.15, the Guild Wars 2 launcher can no longer
launch the game because it just freezes/hangs. This was not an issue in 1.5.14,
and in order to run the game for now I'm using wine 1.5.14 compiled from
source.
In wine 1.5.14, the launcher is black (can't see UI at all, but it's still
functional) unless using the -dx9single flag. Using -dx9single, the background
is black instead of transparent but the UI inside is properly rendered. This
information is important because, before submitting this bug report, I
performed two separate git bisects between 1.5.14 and 1.5.15: one without any
command-line parameters, and one using -dx9single.
Technical details follow:
=======================================================================
1) git bisect for running the game without any parameters:
In the last good commit (8dcbeff760115834656f3f1fc85922e3a9af14d0), the
launcher is still black but it still works. You cannot see the UI but by
blindly logging in, the game does launch. In the first bad commit
(f12c1c6630f0bf842dde9af10da4ab188ff16e94), the behavior is different from the
wine 1.5.15 release and the other commits tested: here, instead of locking up,
the window just disappears. It's still there, but I guess it's fully
transparent. Because this leaves us even more "blind", I considered this "bad"
in the git bisect, yielding the following result:
---
f12c1c6630f0bf842dde9af10da4ab188ff16e94 is the first bad commit
commit f12c1c6630f0bf842dde9af10da4ab188ff16e94
Author: Alexandre Julliard <julliard(a)winehq.org>
Date: Wed Sep 26 13:12:17 2012 +0200

3870099a31a68a69cd7c022857794700c2343aa9 M dlls
---
If, however, we consider f12c1c6630f0bf842dde9af10da4ab188ff16e94 "good" in the
git bisect, we get:
---
d8247efd5ecb8c4604624eb2bbf47e194ce59e7e is the first bad commit
commit d8247efd5ecb8c4604624eb2bbf47e194ce59e7e
Author: Alexandre Julliard <julliard(a)winehq.org>
Date: Thu Sep 27 20:47:08 2012 +0200

---
In this case, the launcher does indeed lock up in the first bad commit

2) git bisect for running the game using -dx9single:
Using the -dx9single flag, we seem to be able to get to a later commit before
it stops working (but does not work in the 1.5.15 release). In the last good
commit (dbff4f422c943a837f0098e921f831eb4a94ac11), everything seems to be fine
(when using the -dx9single flag) and even the transparency seems to be working.
However, in the first bad commit (6f3b097a203d9ca248732cb45eed462599ca3af1),
things start to lock up. This yields the following git bisect result:

On some maps especially when many green trees game works very slowly.
This happens on all versions of nvidia driver AFTER 331.89.
331.89 it is last version when game works on maximum video settings.
May be this is bug of nvidia driver (not wine) but I can't test this.
I tested 2 videocards nvidia 760M and 650 ti.
This can be reproduced on ArchLinux, Fedora, OpenSuse and Kubuntu.
If you have problems with reproducing I can attach some maps where it can be
reprocuced

Hi,
The following programs take a lot of time to render the UI:
https://www.reveal-sound.com/https://www.xferrecords.com/products/serum
A few versions before the UI was just black, and recently it started to paint
correctly, so it must be that you have add new painting/rendering api recently.
Yet the painting performance is really slow, so it would be great if you guys
could have a look and optimize it a bit? Maybe it is an easy thing to do?
Many thanks for your work guys!
To reproduce it you can install a plugin host like reaper:
https://www.reaper.fm/ and then install the vst plugins and try them with
reaper.
Regards,
Alexandre

Some of the "cw" win10 machines fail in shell32:appbar. Mine happens to work
when running the test on its own. I haven't been able to find a pattern, other
than that none of the machines are on the current build.
Without a machine that can reproduce this, I don't see a way to figure out
what's going on.
It would seem based on the results that appbar functionality does not work at
all.
One possibility is that a previous test leaves explorer in a bad state. If so,
running the test on its own should succeed. It would also explain the
correlation between failures here and in shell32:systray

Hi there,
I'm suggesting to make some checks prior to loading and executing applications.
The problem I encountered yesterday was that when trying to start applications
from a filesystem with the noexec parameter enabled the whole app pagefaults.
That was really my mistake because I accidentally changed some lines in the
fstab after changing the encryption engine of my system. I only have the exec
parameter enabled on the games filesystem, all other data filesystem don't have
it enabled.
It would be a good thing to output a somehow more informative error message
when such a configuration is encountered (executing code from noexec fs).
I suggest this because I was quite confused seeing the application to pagefault
that was running two days ago (and I didn't do any package updates in these two
days).
Thanks,
Tobias
