Log of the session
On selecting the 3d board in Chessbase 11, a crash occurs. Low priority for me
as 3d boards are usually useless, but others might want it.
Reproduction steps:
Open board, select board tab, select 3d board and click.
Info disabled pops up (maybe related to that I can't active chessbase 11 - bug
report already exists), initialising 3d board pops up and crash occurs.

The sourcebrella-pinpoint screenshot of a memory leak defect.
We find a memory leak defect in the file tools/winebuild/po.c.
I've uploaded a screenshot of the leak trace.
This leak happens when the if condition is not satisfied on line 731. It is
better to free this buffer in the else branch.

Out of nostalgia I decided to try to fire up Dark Age of Camelot, which I
played under Cedega at one point in the 00s. I followed the instructions at
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=9368 sans the
patch, and it crashed at the character selection screen, as expected.
The linked-to patch no longer applies to Wine master (1.9.12+), and the latest
patch in bug 39057 didn't improve the situation either.
I rebased the patch from the appdb entry (bug 6955) onto git master, after
which the game seemed to run perfectly.

3 console logs: fresh install, wininet installed and wininet installed with
rasapi32 set to native
I've been attempting to get Darkfall: New Dawn for a couple of days now.
Currently, the program cannot me installed on wine, so I have installed and
patched the game on a Windows virtual machine and then transferred it to a
fresh wine prefix.
I have added the correct Windows registry entries. They are (both string/value
pairs):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Ub3rgames\Darkfall New Dawn]
DataPath = C:\Program Files\Darkfall New Dawn\data\
ProgramPath = C:\Program Files\Darkfall New Dawn\
On a Windows machine, if I don't run the installer of the program but instead
simply add the said registry entries, the game runs, provided the paths are set
correctly (I can also move the program to another folder, update the paths and
it will work). On wine, this will not work.
A way to test if the game recognises the installation seems to be to attempt to
run 'darkfall.exe' in the data directory directly. On Windows, if the registry
entries are not said, this will spawn an error saying the game is not installed
correctly. This same error however always appear on wine, no matter if the
registry keys are set or not.
Since I am no wine expert, I have also been pondering if the problem could be
internet access. After installing wininet via winetricks, console output at
time of running the game changes, and I noticed the following line:
fixme:ras:RasEnumConnectionsW RAS support is not implemented! Configure program
to use LAN connection/winsock instead!
So in addition to a fresh install with the bare minimum of libraries installed,
I also attempted with wininet installed, and lastly, due to the
RasEnumConnectionsW error, I tried setting rasapi32 to 'native' in winecfg.
Console outputs for all of these are included in the attached file.
I also tried to install the game in wine 1.7.4 and received similar results, so
I don't believe this to be a regression issue. Lastly, the wineprefixes I've
tried have been 32-bit - I also tried a 64-bit one, but there the launcher
itself crashes when opened. The wine version used is indeed the official
1.9.14.
Should somebody need the program to debug the issue, it is freely available
upon registration on it's website.

I may be overreaching with the conclusions but it seems that a well known
design problem of Direct3d/windows device api made the jump to wine, even
though a normal workaround in windows is to 'use opengl'.
These games suffer from what is commonly called 'floating cursor' or mouse lag
if configured with direct3d (supposedly the hardware mode and the most
efficient). If you search for 'direct3d mouse lag' you come across numerous
blogs/forums explaining the cause.
http://my.opera.com/Vorlath/blog/2009/02/01/directx-d3d-mouse-laghttp://www.southwindsgames.com/blog/2009/01/15/mouse-lag-keyboard-lag-direc…http://forums.indiegamer.com/showthread.php?15469-Mouse-Lag-with-D3D
So this is a bit of a problem for those games and probably more. Even a wine
registry hack would be nice

The change "gl_info->supported[ARB_POLYGON_OFFSET_CLAMP]" added by Henri
during his review which is causing the issue.
+ if (gl_info->supported[WINED3D_GL_VERSION_3_2]
+ && gl_info->supported[ARB_POLYGON_OFFSET_CLAMP]
+ && gl_info->supported[ARB_SAMPLER_OBJECTS])
I have a nVidia 8600 GT and 9600 GT which are both capable of running many
DirectX 10 games however now they wont run under wine since the driver doesn't
have ARB_POLYGON_OFFSET_CLAMP support.
The legacy driver doesn't have any other functions which could be used as a
replacement for ARB_POLYGON_OFFSET_CLAMP.
Using glView, from Realtech VR, shows that the 8600 GT doesn't support
ARB_POLYGON_OFFSET_CLAMP or infact any of the 4.6 standard GL functions. Maybe
DirectX does Depth Bias Clamping internally if the card doesn't support it or
maybe its part of the 10.1+ standard. No-one know for sure.
As Henri pointed out, it's not clear that Deapth Bais Clamping is actually a
requirement for DirectX 10 but is rather implied based off
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/direct3d11/d3d10-graphics-…
It's now my understanding that if Depth Bais Clamping isn't supported then we
may end up with minor Artefacts in some places, for some games. I'm sure users
can live with a little glitch now and again, if it means they can play games
that they know their hardware is perfectly capable of running.
There is an option to use the nouveau driver to workaround the issue, however
for me this driver performs extremely badly when playing native games.

Summary: d3d: guess card, no card selector for mesa's llvmpipe

Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.2
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

Running software that utilizes direct3d produces the following output when run
through gallium's llvmpipe:
fixme:d3d_caps:wined3d_guess_card No card selector available for GL vendor 0x4
and card vendor 0000 (using GL_RENDERER "Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM
0x209)").
Looking at the source, adding a card selector for llvmpipe seems simple enough.
However, I'm not quite sure what all needs to be done in order to support the
new selector.

For more than 10 years a brilliant blog exists how to start a 32-bit DLL from
an x64 application. This sound weird but in case a DLL cannot be converted to
64-bit for whatever reason such a solution is very helpful. In the blog there
is a method described how to do this. The blog is very sophistcated. Please see
https://blog.mattmags.com/2007/06/30/accessing-32-bit-dlls-from-64-bit-code/
On Windows accessing a DLL through the COM IPC mechanism works like a charm. On
Wine64 a 32-bit DLL can only be accessed and executed from a 32-bit app through
a COM IPC mechanism (btw. works great). But accessing the 32-bit DLL through a
COM IPC mechanism from the same x64 version of such an app fails.
Of course, such a capability is beyond Wine-4.0. But it would be great if a fix
could be addressed in the scope of Wine-5.0.
I try to provide a sample which demonstrate the issue.
May be somebody familiar with the COM IPC mechnism may help to address the
right component. Thx.

Jennifer Lai put together a win16 test suite
as her intern project this summer, with a little
guidance from me. The code is a combination
of win16 tests that had been posted in the past,
and backports of 32 bit wine tests.
Jennifer says the tests pass on Windows XP.
The code can be downloaded
from http://win16test.googlecode.com with svn,
and is quite easy to run; see
http://win16test.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/src/README
for instructions.
There are four or five crash failures and several lesser failures.
She has proposed patches to fix most of these at
http://win16test.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/src/patches/
I think there are mistakes in at least one of her patches,
but they're still a good starting point
We would have liked to commit the win16 tests as part
of the wine source tree, but Alexandre didn't want us to,
so we created a project at googlecode.com to host them.
I'll gladly give committer status to any serious wine
developer who wants to work on them.

"winetricks windowscodecs" is required to start the application.
Radar refresh timer (lower right corner) is obscenely long. Normally about 1-5
minutes (depending on weather in the area), it seems to be offset by the
timezone. It's 300 minutes in UTC-5 but the timer is normal with UTC/GMT.
Looks like GRLevel3 is getting time from two different sources that disagree
with each other, for its countdown, and the time it's counting down to. I
haven't tested UTC+ timezones.
Windows does not keep the RTC in UTC.

I'd attach a backtrace if anyone could tell me how to actually create one, but
it's highly possible that this crash is caused by the lack of threading support
in the schannel implementation of wine.
libgcrypt.so.11.5.3
Using the attached patch somehow seems to make these crashes more rare, however
they still occur and the shop is incredible slow.

Three or four times in the last couple weeks, I've seen
../../../tools/runtest -q -P wine -M kernel32.dll -T ../../.. -p
kernel32_test.exe.so change.c && touch change.ok
change.c:81: Test failed: Missed notification
The first couple times it was on a q9300 with wine64, most recently
on Austin's 32 bit buildslave.

You can't see this unless you compare Windows and Wine side by side,
but: I didn't even realize there was a throbbing halo around the
language choice and save game name choice until I saw it on Windows.
When I went back to Wine, I saw it was there too, but not as noticeable.
Also affects downloadable demo.
Needless to say, this is a minor detail.

The free downloadable game Super Mario Brothers X installs ok.
It requires 'winetricks vb6run' to run, and gets two screens in
before hanging with an infinite series of messages like
fixme:quartz:parse_header Not a valid header: 62:04
Clicking the checkmark on the startup screen to disable game
sound lets the game run fine. Some people say 'winetricks quartz'
solves the problem

Installed Metatrader 4.00 Build 1010
Running Metartrader. When cursor moves over a price bar, a window popups to
display information about the bar. After this, wherever you move the cursor,
the popup window always pops up, even when the cursor is not on a price bar.

With Foobar2000 multichannel audio output doesn't work.
Only a stereo signal is being played when listening to multichannel (e.g. 6ch /
5.1) material.
The same applies to the fb2k component foo_dsp_fsurround:
https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,52235.0.html
("Its purpose is to decode surround information from your stereo music
(including mp3, of course), and to produce 5.1 output from it.")
Please let me know what info you need from me in order to investigate.
Kind regards

Testing with Wine 1.7.44 (ubuntu-wine package built for Ubuntu 14.04) on
Lubuntu 14.10 x86-64, Nvidia binary driver 304.125.
This problem shows up with the Dweebs demo that can be downloaded from
http://web.archive.org/web/20021005065028/http://www.mutation.btinternet.co…
Download that self-extracting zip archive and unzip it.
Use winecfg to enable virtual desktop mode. Run Dweebs.exe. It switches to
full-screen mode (changing desktop resolution). But virtual desktop mode is
enabled, so that shouldn't happen.
[On my system the display is also all black, sometimes with a momentary flicker
of the image which is supposed to be there when I alt-tab. But that would be a
separate bug.]

Installing SlingPlayer 2.0.4 in WOW64 mode results in multiple crashes in
kernel32, and the installer eventually claims to have failed. However, the
program is installed and usable, so it is more of a nuisance than anything
else.
To get this far:
1. Set Windows mode to Vista (do NOT use Winetricks)
2. winetricks nocrashdialog (not necessary)
3. Install.

Hi, a user reported trouble with this app here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1190483
I gave it a try and actually there seem to be two bugs:
1. All icons in toolbar are black. In the console the line appears:
err:imagelist:IMAGELIST_InternalExpandBitmaps creating new image bitmap
(x=25600 y=16)!
2. After doing from the menu: Edit->Prefernces->OK an access violation occurs
and the app is no longer usable.
Both bugs are gone using native comctl32

Hardwood Solitaire wine log
Hello,
Hardwood Solitaire can not connect to his server. So you can not use the
network features:
- play paid games
- no access to achievements
- store empty, no objects
...
How to reproduce:
1) download Hardwood solitaire here:
http://www.silvercrk.com/solitaire/
and install it with Wine.
2) launch it, click on "Store", the Store is empty, you can not access
anything.
3) you can sign in too and when you are connected to your account, you have an
error message:
"Couldn't connect to server. Full access to game feature may not be available
at this time."
I joined the Wine log, it could be related to this lines:

Summary: Volume Control doesn't work in Firefox videos (and
browsers based on it) with PulseAudio driver
Product: Wine
Version: 4.0-rc5
Hardware: x86

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Component: winepulse.drv

The volume control on videos does not work and has no effect. Tested on Firefox
52 ESR, Waterfox and latest Pale Moon (you have to enable media.wmf.vp9.enabled
to true for the latter so you can play videos on Youtube without native mfplat
/ vdec DLLs).
I skimmed through Firefox's source code, it appears to be using
IAudioStreamVolume::SetAllVolumes or similar calls. When I poked through Wine's
code, it seems only coreaudio driver actually does anything here.
The pulseaudio driver's SetAllVolumes is basically a no-op because it doesn't
do anything with the volume it sets (except retrieve it with GetAllVolumes),
and it's never sent to libpulse so of course it doesn't have any effect. The
coreaudio driver does call ca_setvol or ca_session_setvol where the pulse
driver is missing such a thing completely.
With a quick search I found that pa_context_set_sink_input_volume might be
useful for this purpose, but I don't really know much about libpulse, perhaps
there's a better way. It definitely can't stay like this though, since right
now it's basically a stub without even a FIXME for it...

Summary: win64 dotnet Space Engineers fractal noise generation

Space Engineers seems to work with the latest wine, dxvk, and dotnet installed
to the prefix... However planet and asteroid (all voxel generation) seems to
suffer from messed up procedural gen.
Asteroids have small spiky bits on them in areas that whittle down to fine
points and hard edges unnaturally. Not game breaking but very noticeable.
Planet generation is much worse. Planets generate large spikes of rock that
ascend upward well beyond the limits of the atmosphere and the lower portions
of the planet seem to generate correctly if you manage to reach the ground and
walk around. Extremely game breaking.
This happens in multiplayer too, even with a windows based server, the client
procedural gens voxels independently of the server's generation which obviously
conflict the server sees free open space but the client on wine will generate
these huge phantom spikes visible to the player.
Something is pushing the fractal ridge generation of the game to create these
utterly massive spikes and asteroid fuzz and I'm willing to bet it's something
wrong with the underlying noise generation of DotNet that they use.
The source code of the game is available as well for "compatibility" purposes
under KeenSoftwareHouse's visible source licensing on github if it would be
applicable in debugging the problem but I have a feeling this may be dotnet
itself as that's where they get the noise gen from.
vcrun2017 and dotnet462 have been installed in my latest prefix with
winetricks.
Only the version of the game [1.187] and older work as something locks up the
latest version in wine after a minute or so if you want to test.

Adjusting the volume level in the game has no effect, the game is playing audio
on the default, highest volume.
The game is originally from 1999, I tested with the GOG version. The problem

f4se log
f4se will abort initialization and launch Fallout4 without modification when
launching with unpatched wine. It looks for 64K of unreserved memory before the
addresses of Fallout4.exe and whichever f4se dll is being loaded for trampoline
buffers.
I see two issues here. The first is that get_free_mem_state_callback is
returning that a block before the exe base overlaps the exe area (ie if exe
base address is 0x14000000000 it will reject a 64K block starting at
0x13FC0000000 as overlapping).
The other issue is that when the f4se dll is being loaded it's being loaded at
a lower address. The code that looks for trampoline buffer space aborts when it
gets to a lowest acceptable address which is the module address minus
0x78000000. For low addresses this wraps back around to a high address.
Switching to loading dlls from top down stops this from happening but I doubt
that's a good approach.
With the two patches I'm about to attach f4se completes initialization and
everything seems to run fine.

Binary, source code, debug log
In any program using Qt 5.7.0, if you try to read a udp datagram packet, the
call would always return size 0 and leave you with an empty peer-address/port
as well.
I discovered the problem in the launcher for my game which uses UDP to ping
various servers.
I wrote a minimal UDP server to which you can connect with netcat (or anything)
and it easily reproduces the problem.
Attached you'll find a small archive containing:
- minimal udp test server
- source code for that server
- debug log with +winsock showing the error
- the client netcat command to cause that error
Note: I have not checked a simple raw UDP server using the winsock API
directly.
The problem exists at least since wine v1.6.2

On Test Drive Unlimited water is always rendered on top of any other object, no
matter how far or high the object is, in fact one can see the rivers and sea
over the road/mountains being miles away from the sea/river.
This issue happens since the very first runnable wine version (1.1.x), and I
belive that it wasn't reported earlier because it was confused by most users
with bug 7991, but definitely not the same issue.
I have tested it with the following hardware (DX10 capable) and the bug shows
clearly:
------------------------[ snip ]------------------------------------
direct rendering: Yes
server glx version string: 1.4
client glx version string: 1.4
GLX version: 1.4
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation

OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 270.41.06
OpenGL shading language version string: 3.30 NVIDIA via Cg compiler
------------------------[ snip ]------------------------------------
There are also reports on the appdb of users with a Geforce 9600GT or ATI
HD4870 having the same issue (both cards are DX10 capable), and a lot of
screenshots with the "flood".

After initialising a critical section for mutexes by using
static CRITICAL_SECTION Mutex = {(PCRITICAL_SECTION_DEBUG)-1, -1, 0, 0, 0, 0};
wine crashed in "RtlpWaitForCriticalSection()".
According to http://locklessinc.com/articles/pthreads_on_windows/ this is a
valid way of initialising the critical section. However, Wine seems to
initialize it by NULL instead of (void*)-1:

I did a git bisect from wine-3.0 (good) to wine-3.10 (bad) and landed on these
two commits. The last one I could not tag as it causes Photoshop to crash.

This one is pretty tricky, and had me pulling my hair out.
Open notepad++ with no document, so it creates an empty one.
Type something 'Wine is awesome!'
Go to save 'CTRL+S'
You'll get the default save dialog.
However!
On windows:
Title = 'Save As'
On wine:
Title = 'Save'

That refers to a newer version of the Xaudio libraries which come bundled in
the June 2010 DirectX redistributable.
However, the current winetricks script installs directx libs from the February
2010 package, in which they're not included. The required files:
XAudio2_7.dll
XactEngine3_7.dll
XAPOFX1_5.dll
You have to hunt them down from a Windows machine (with up-to-date directx),
place them in /system32 and register them with regsvr32.exe.
The game will start correctly afterwards.
