snipped of application log
Starting TomTom MyDrive Connect with Wine 1.9.15 its tray icon appears. Though,
left-, right- and double-click will not present its context(drop-down) menu.
Attached is a snipped of the application log. The application tries to mount a
volume at 'E:\', then queries NotifyAddrChange multiple times and finally
retries to mount volume again. This goes on endlessly.

Hello folks,
as the summary says.
Already mentioned in bug 37844
Half of the time the installer just hangs in the payload info retrieval stage,
displaying: "Please wait while we retrieve available application information".
If it passes the payload info stage and with bug 37844 fixed it will stall in
the download stage.
I first suspected multi-threading on 'wininet' component (at least on open bug
exists) but that's not the case here.
After using the quite "heavy" 'winetricks -q ie7' recipe I reduced it down to
'urlmon' override which makes this work.
Parsing the logs for 'urlmon' related messages yields:

starting Bayonetta for the next time fails, the game hangs after being

*clean 64bit prefix
*Steam version of the game (with D3DCompiler_43.dll placed next to the game
binary)
*wine-2.8 was used with CSMT enabled in order to workaround bug #42911.
*wine-2.8-staging shows similar behaviour

Patch to clip empty rectangles to top left pixel
In server/queue.c functions set_clip_rectangle() and queue_hardware_message(),
the cursor position is clipped to the rectangle desktop->cursor.clip. However,
if the clipping rectangle has zero width and height, the cursor position is set
to a position offset by (-1,-1) from the top-left corner of the rectangle
instead of *at* the top-left corner. An empty clipping rectangle is arguably
invalid, but at least one application relies on the cursor being clipped to the
top-left:
The game "The Long Dark" (Steam, Sandbox Alpha v.244) uses such an empty
clipping rectangle while the character is moving. Because of this bug, mouse
events (including button press and release events with no movement) cause a
shifting of the view down and to the right.
The attached patch fixes the issue.

Hello All,
when I start Tom Clancy's The Division with uplay for the first time after
downloading it, the launcher installs DX and vcrun correctly and after that it
starts TheDivision.exe that terminates itself immediately.
At every subsequent launch with uplay or from a terminal TheDivision.exe
terminates itself wihtin a few seconds after launch. No logo or window or any
kind of lifesign is to be seen.
The only feedback I get is when I try to start it from a terminal:
/games/Ubisoft/Tom Clancy's The Division> WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-division-64
WINEARCH=win64 wine TheDivision.exe

I tried to debug it with
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-division-64 WINEARCH=win64 winedbg TheDivision.exe
but all I get is a message box - titled "TheDivision.exe" - that says: "A
debugger has been found running in your system. Please, unload it from memory
and restart your program." After clicking that message box away I can only quit
the debugger. See the attched screenshot.
This is my first debugging attempt and I am pretty much lost here.
So I decided to create a log file with
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-division-64 WINEARCH=win64 WINEDEBUG=+relay wine
TheDivision.exe
as stated here,
https://wiki.winehq.org/Wine_Developer%27s_Guide/Debugging_Wine#Debugging_T…
and hope it is useful.
I also managed to do a backtrace, once only, a couple of days ago because the
exe is gone too fast to catch it. I do not know if it is of any use but will
include it for further investigation.
If you need any more debugging information just tell me and I will provide it.
Thank you.

I downloaded FPS Monitor, I can install it but it doesn't run. When I run it I
get the error:"The procedure entry point D3DKMTCloseAdapter could not be
located in the dynamic link library GDI32.dll". Instead, I get nothing in the
console output by running the program with "wine FPSMonitor.exe", as you can
see in the screenshot that I attached. To reproduce the error:
1) Download FPS Monitor here https://fpsmon.com/en/?
2) Install it
3) Try to run it (with "wine FPSMonitor.exe")
4) Program doesn't start and you get the error

Fallout: New Vegas crashes immediately upon launch in gameoverlayrenderer,
which is related to the Steam overlay. It crashes even when the steam overlay

This is not a duplicate of 38381 because it crashes at a different place (and
earlier) and also not a duplicate of 43637 because the 64-bit game patch does
not fix this issue.
Attached is the backtrace.

Hello folks,
this is more an experts request but it should also help getting better
diagnosis (logs) from users.
There are apps and games that crash when being relay traced because they employ
intrusive API hooking schemes that can't cope with Wine's relay thunks.
Example of a Steam game crashing with game overlay renderer enabled when relay
trace is turned on:

The game dll calls 'WINMM.joyGetNumDevs'.
Original relay thunk emitted for that API:
--- snip ---
F6F38234 push esp
F6F38235 push 1Dh
F6F38237 call __wine_spec_get_pc_thunk_eax
F6F3823C lea eax, [eax+35270h] ; descriptor lookup
F6F38242 push eax
F6F38243 call dword ptr [eax+4]
F6F38246 retn 0
--- snip ---
The hook engine copies all opcodes that are potentially overwritten by the
5-byte long jump to an intermediate thunk.
Hence the call to '__wine_spec_get_pc_thunk_eax' is copied too - leading to the
actual problem.
A long jump is written to the relay thunk entry which jumps to another
trampoline, located at the intermediate thunk area.
'WINMM.joyGetNumDevs' relay thunk hooked by Steam's gameoverlayrenderer:

This obviously can't work because '__wine_spec_get_pc_thunk_eax' relies on
being called from original relay thunk code.
Because Steam game overlay renderer hook engine relocated this essential part
of relay thunk code, the returned address will always be wrong.
You can fix this problem by padding the relay thunk entry with enough 'no-op'
opcodes to not have '__wine_spec_get_pc_thunk_eax' relocated by hook engines.
Wine:
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blob/4e4acd5f705c770b7c361605e11d9d7c…
The method works and AFAIK has no side-effects.
I used a patch in my repo for some time now to cope with such stubborn
apps/games (mostly DRM related).

The the PC version of Halo patched to 1.0.10 will have sound effects playing
either louder or quieter than expected with some sounds not being played at
all. It seems to be a problem with the games 3D positional audio. Using a
native dsound.dll from Windows 7 works around the issue.
Using Wine 1.9.17 on Arch Linux.

+mscoree log
This bug affects the GOTY edition on Steam (including the Winter Assault
expansion), but W40k DoW: Soulstorm and the Dark Crusade expansions are not
affected.
The game plays the intro videos properly but crashes while loading to the main
menu. In the terminal I'm getting an
>err:seh:raise_exception Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable to dispatch exception.
but no backtrace is generated.
The game starts properly when .Net 2.0 is installed in the prefix (one minor
annoyance is that the game doesn't exit properly with .Net 2.0, the game
executable remains in memory after exiting).
Could be a regression in Wine Mono because the game starts properly when Wine
Mono 0.0.8 is installed, hangs with 100% CPU usage when 4.5.2 is installed and
crashes with Wine Mono 4.5.6.
If neither .Net nor Wine Mono is installed in the prefix then the game dies
silently after starting (nothing relevant in the terminal)
wine-1.7.47-118-ga90592c / Wine Mono 4.5.6 installed

So performence goes really bad. I get about 10-20fps instead of 120-160fps,
though I have an insane gaming rig.
The only way to fix it, is removing the ~/.wine directory completly.
But that's not an real option...

I tried to run the example programs on WINE, but the do not work well or they
do not work at all.
This is what I have noticed:
- CHART control: nothing is displayed.
- EXPAND control: pressing the arrow button, the control is expanded, but
without animation. Please note that something related to the animation is
running in background, if for example the expansion will take one second to
execute, WINE will expand the control suddently after one second.
- IMGVIEW control: it crashed brutally.
- MDITAB control: no tab is displayed.
- MENUBAR control: text is drawn outside the highlight (or viceversa).
Attached here some screenshots of these errors.

Every now and then randomly, and also after every time the Blizzard app updates
this issue occurs.
After launching, the Blizzard app is stuck indefinitely with the message:
"Blizzard agent went to sleep. Attempting to wake it up..."
The only way I found to fix it is by closing the app, deleting the folder
'drive_c/Program Data/Battle.net' and restarting.
This however removes all installed games from the app, and they will need to be
re-added using Settings > Game Install/Update > Scan for games, which may take
anywhere between 1 second to 15 minutes.

Since the last Neverwinter Online update the game crashes when entering the
Workshop or the Aquisitions Incoperated building in the map Protectors Enclave
on the end of the loading screen.
Once you entered the the Aquisitions Incoperated building, your character
spawns inside leading to an instant cash on join.
Being in the Workshop does not get saved, you spawn in front of the building.
The game can be downloaded from:
www.playneverwinter.com
One needs to level a character to lvl 15 to be allowed to enter these
buildings.
Nothing not-normal is logged to console and dmesg logs nothing. The cash
reporter in the game does not start. The process just disappears.
Using dxvk changes nothing, making me think the issue is not graphics-related.

When DLL is linked to app directory by relative symbolic link and then set to
native (by WINEDLLOVERIDES envvar in my case), 002b:err:module:import_dll will
fail with "not found". Absolute symlinks work correctly. Relative symlink to
pseudo-DLL (".dll.so" from wine-nine-standalone works correctly (when linked
under name without ".so").
This used to work at some time in the past and I use it everywhere, but now I
tried to launch some older games (not used for maybe half year) just to find,
that DLLs that are present are "not found".
Relative symlinks are resolved correctly by wine cmd "dir" command (sizes are
correct).

World of Warcraft kicks the player back to the login screen with the error "A
streaming error has occurred. (WOW51900322)" a few seconds after choosing a
character and entering the game world.
The issue has been reported on the AppDB, WineHQ forums and eu/us blizzard
forums. The issue affects Linux players only.
See the How-to / Notes section of
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=36961
The workaround is to remove and replace the Cache directory in Program Files
(x86)\World of Warcraft\ by a Windows copy of the cache.
I experience the issue since I upgraded to Debian 9 and got rid of bug 42874.
I made several tests and pin-pointed the issue to the creaturecache.wdb and
gameobjectcache.wdb in World of Warcraft\Cache\WDB\ being corrupt when created.
I compiled a custom wine version : plain wine 3.21 + staged patchset from bug
45349 (with its staging dependencies).
With that custom version the Cache files are NOT corrupt and the issue doesn't
happen.
The 64-bit client requires wine-staging (bug 45349).
I have no knowledge of the issue with 32 bit version of the client and can't
test it myself due to (abandoned) bug 43656.
If the bug is indeed a regression in wine-staging, I guess people using
wine-staging to run the 32 bit game client also have the issue.
I'm currently conducting a regression test in wine-staging to pin-point the
patchset that causes the wrong file creation.

Bug #: 32096
Summary: drawStridedSlow can be more efficient
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: guillaum.bouchard(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
Hi,
Recently I noticed that World of Warcaft is far more slow on d3d9 mode than
using the OpenGL mode on my computer (pentium 4 and geforce 5 fx).
Unfortunately the OpenGL mode is unusable since last WoW update (bug is inside
WoW, not wine)
D3D mode is slower because an important amount of the primitives are rendered
using drawStridedSlow (dlls/wined3d/drawprim.c) which generates a lot of opengl
call (here, 600K calls compared to 12K in OpenGL mode).
It appears that if the computer can handle vertex array (ie:
glDrawElements/glDrawArrays/gl[Vertex|Color|TexCoords|Fog]Pointer and
glClientActiveTexture) the number of openGL call can be dramatically reduced,
leading to an important increase in FPS (8 to 25 in important city in WoW).
On my computer, I hacked inside drawStritedSlow and I have only one issue, the
format of color is packed in BGRA, which is not compatible with the format
awaited by glColorPointer. This can be fixed using the extension
ARB_vertex_array_BGRA, which is unfortunately not available on my computer. I
solved this issue by looping over each vertex and building a custom array in
memory that I submitted to glColorPointer. I got approximately the same FPS
increase using this approach.
My conclusions here are that the fallback to drawStridedSlow is a bit extreme
and in most case unnecessary. In my configuration everything works except the
conversion from the d3d BGRA format for color in RGBA. This part can be easily
done in software to create a suitable color array. Also, I did not dig inside
the shader code of wined3d, but perhaps this conversion can be simply
implemented as a swizzle in the custom vertex shader. (am I right guessing that
wined3d does not uses the default shader of the fixed pipeline ?).
So this bug report is more a way of opening the discussion. I see many options
to improve the situation:
a) Tweak the heuristics which detects and fallbacks to drawStridedSlow. If
necessary implements the needed conversions in software. But this will not
generates OpenGL function call and will increase performance a bit
b) Tweak the vertex shader to do the conversion in the vertex shader, I think
it is our best option
c) Tweak drawStridedSlow to still rely on vertex array when possible (I have an
example of code which is doing this. I'm playing WoW with this since 3 days
without any issue and with a FPS increase of 200%). I don't think that honestly
it is the good idea.
d) do something else. Because I did not read anything else than the
drawStritedSlow function, I may have missed something important.
I'm motivated to help in the DX -> GL code. I'm a skilled C and GL coder, I
don't know DX, but can learn enough. Thank you for reading.

Wine should provide a libre MFC implementation for use with winelib.
This is a large project, so a reasonable initial target would be a basic MFC
DLL implementation that will allow simple hello world type applications to run.
There are several sample applications freely available to test against, and
some moderately more complex but still open ones such as FEMM [1].
As it stands, MFC is one of the only remaining barriers to enabling a number of
otherwise open applications on non-x86 Linux platforms.

I just uninstalled WineHQ, and when I uninstalled and executed apt autoremove,
apt deleted my gdm and prevented it from entering the GUI.
I think this is a problem with making the WineHQ installation package.
This happened when I uninstalled WineHQ some time ago.

Wine-4.0-rc7 working for me.
macOS 10.13.6
Intel HD4000
But since 4.1 and next commits I can't start installers can't start games that
always works before.
The news at the site is "wine-preloader for macOS" and I see the preloader
crashes and hangs.
I see nothing in logs. I checked my system and *dylibs. All looks good.

My Xbox 360's right analog keeps spinning without using it with some Unity
games like Dreamfall Chapters and distance, but it works well with other Unity
games like Cuphead, and Ori and The Blind Forest.
I use HP Probook 450 G1 which has an accelerometer that is used to protect the
hard disk from sudden movements or falls, and Manajro Linux identify this
accelerometer as a joystick. I tried to disable it completely with 'sudo chmod
-r /dev/input/js1' but that does nothing at all.

bug had been solved in X11, so I think that this is related to the macdriver.

Summary: World War II Online: Connection with Playgate Auth
server fails and times out
Product: Wine
Version: 2.16
Hardware: x86

Wireshark capture showing communication between the game and remote auth server
App Download location: http://downloads.wwiionline.com/wwiiol_1.35.9.4.exe
The game installs correctly, and the offline mode (C:\Program Files
(x86)\CRS\Battleground\ Europe\WW2.exe) works absolutely flawlessly.
However, if you attempt to enter in online mode (via C:\Program Files
(x86)\CRS\Battleground\ Europe\WW2.exe) currently doesn't work.
This latter path launches the 'Playgate' app which handles the authentication
prior to launching the game. The workflow is as follows:
1. Playgate launches as requires you to accept the Terms of Service.
2. Second window shows latest news pulled from then website, and a username &
password form.
3. Above the login form, it keeps showing 'Connecting to auth.playnet.com
[attempt 1]' with the attempt number increasing.
With some snooping using wireshark Wireshark showed the following pattern in
the TCP traffic:
1. The game connects to the authentication server and gets a 301 redirect to a
HTTPS version.
2. The game negotiates a TLS connection and recieves data from the Auth server
for 70-800ms.
3. The remote end (auth server) stops sending packets.
4. After 1500ms wait, the game closes the connection and attempts to
re-establish it.
5. Subsequent connection attempts appear to be closed immediately on the remote
end.
auth.playnet.com resolves to 204.237.246.55, but has also resolved to
204.237.246.54 before. Probably a primary and secondary.
This game used to have gold & platinum ratings under Wine 1.6 in 2014/2015.
However, both the game code and Wine are advancing. The current version of the
game requires at least Wine 1.7.39 to operate as it requires a function not
implemented until then.
Note that this same behaviour is present when tested on 1.7.55 and 2.0.2
I am attaching two files:
1. A .pcap file showing the communication between the game and the auth server.
Note the time gap between packet 146 (A TCP ACK packet from my machine up to
the remote server) and packet 147 - my local sending a [FIN,ACK] packet to
unilaterally close the connection after 1500ms of no traffic.
2. I will also add the terminal output wine gives. Note the lines indicating
the timeout. After several attempts, I hit 'Cancel' to close the app.

Summary: SafeDisc v2.x API entry analyzer flags Wine's
user32.dll as "bad" (too many exports with PIC loads
in prolog code) (SimCity 4, ...)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.21

Hello,
many games (and some apps) have dependency on "meta" bug 219 "Programs refuse
to run because of safedisc copy-protection" which just bad (not even targeting
specific version).
I bought some games for few bucks just to have a look at some copy protections.
Though I will probably never play them ;-)
Collecting/tracking affected games/apps for this _specific_ issue here
(applicable appdb entries should have bug 219 dependency removed in favor of
this one).
The root cause was already targeted by bug 10273 ("satisfy SafeDisc 2.x
heuristic API analyzer by "adjusting" API exports/entry statistics of wine
builtins (affects e.g. adobe photoshop)") ...
That bug was closed a long time ago because it ought to work for various SD 2.x
apps/games (unfortunately also depending on wine build environment/host gcc).
I rejected the idea of reviving that bug and instead created a new one,
targeting the affected core dll.
Game: "SimCity 4"
A quick scan with "ProtectionID" reveals:

By debugging this game I came to conclusion there is still a problem with the
API entry statistics.
$ wine --version

For the meaning of the table just read up some comments in bug 10273
kernel32 user32 gdi32 condition (cx < threshold)

c2: 0x23 *0x41 0x39 0x3C
c3: 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x5A
* = threshold exceeded -> bad
Basically the majority of exported user32 API entries have PIC register load
code within range of first 8 opcode bytes of entry which is treated as
trampoline (= high c2 value).
--- snip ---
...

.text:0003735D mov ebp, esp
.text:0003735F push ebx
.text:00037360 sub esp, 34h
.text:00037363 call __i686_get_pc_thunk_bx
.text:00037368 add ebx, 0AEC8Ch
...
--- snip ---
Kernel32 gets the good looking stats because it forwards various stuff to
ntdll, letting compiler produce different function prolog code (= not having
PIC register load in first place).
As already mentioned in the other bug, unimpl. stubs also help to improve stats
because they have 8 NOPs on entry.
I've tweaked user32 again a bit just to pass the threshold - there are various
ugly methods one bad as the other ;-|
A method without adding unimpl. stubs or stack protector code (unreliable
because cookie code can be inserted _after_ PIC code) and keeping -fPIC is to
convince the compiler to use the 6 byte opcode for reserving stack space, e.g.
"subl $xxx, %esp" with a 32-bit immediate (0x81,0xEB,<32 bit immediate>).
Good targets are stubs and functions that make use of FIXME/TRACE.
There are lots of them that can be tweaked this way (= no performance penalty),
improving entry stats.
Result: games work out of the box without the need of No-CD patches.

Log from running the game with no directx9 installed
I have run into problems with running Wargame: European Escalation under wine
1.9.11. I install the game into a clean wine prefix. The trying to run it I get
an error that says:
err:module:import_dll Library X3DAudio1_7.dll (which is needed by
L"Z:\\dane\\gry\\wargame_ee\\wargame.exe") not found
(full log attached). I figured out this file is provided by DirectX, so I use
winetricks to install it:
WINEPREFIX="/dane/gry/wargame_ee/.wine" winetricks directx9
Then the games complain about missing d3dx9_43, so I install that as well with
winetricks (log attached). Then the game finally starts but there is no sound.
Again, log attached.
My system:
- openSUSE 11.4
- wine 1.9.11
- kernel 2.6.37
I can provide more information if necessary.

a user reported problems with this app https://paprikaapp.com/windows/ on the
forum.
After winetricks dotnet45 corefonts and working around
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15670 by adding registrykey like
wine-staging does** the app crashes with Call from 0x7b83d9b2 to unimplemented
function windowscodecs.dll.WICCreateBitmapFromSection
When i use native windowscodecs it also crashes with:
Unhandled Exception: System.NotSupportedException: No imaging component
suitable to complete this operation was found. --->
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Exception from HRESULT: 0x88982F50

Summary: cmd.exe behaves differently from Win7 regarding
redefined labels
Product: Wine

CMD script shows label behavior difference
Wine's cmd.exe behaves differently regarding redefined labels in cmd/bat files.
With Wine, it appears that the interpreter jumps to the last label with the
correct name seen before a "goto" command, on Windows, it will jump to the next
label after a "goto" command.
Please see the attached test file, it should make things clear. It will produce
the output "I'm wine!" or "I'm windows!" respectively.
While it is certainly bad practice to redefine labels, unfortunately CMake
creates such batch files when creating custom commands for Visual Studio
builds.
