All but 2 of the games start correctly from the default installation directory. Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars and Battle for Europe throw an error dialogue on startup, claiming that certain audio files are missing. The error message: 'Class engine error: Unable to load sound: SOUND\INTERFACE\INTERF_ARMY1.WAV' It took some time until I recognized that the problem has something to do with the path: after shortening the directory names by several characters, both games start fine. Here is an example of one of the 'missing' files: C:\\Program Files\\DotEmu\\All Cossacks And American Conquest Series\\Cossacks II - Napoleonic Wars\\SOUND\\INTERFACE\\INTERF_ARMY1.WAV There is no such problem when starting the games in WinXP: they run correctly from their default install directory. The same problem with Wine-0.9.33, 1.0.1, 1.2.3 and so on. It seems for basic installation and registration of the components a component unavailable in wine is needed: RTWorkQ.dll. If RtWorkQ can be implemented at least as a proof of concept I could further test this path and maybe get the different mfplat scenarios working. I don't have enough wine/c expertise to actually implement it but I have some expertise in getting mfplat scenarios working. For now with the spoofed forwards the dlls allow for games to load and progress a bit but it's going to hang waiting for some event probably due to the incomplete work queue. I also tried installing a rtworkq.dll from windows, but I don't know of a legit redistributable that carries this, and also when trying it (version 10.XXX) I had to add loads more of api-ms style dlls so in the end implementing rtworkq.dll seems like a more direct fix. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Under Wine, the window initially opens with the correct size. But then its size increases to match the desktop size (while the top left remains in the same position). So the too-large window extends past the right and bottom edges of the screen. The program then appears to hang. Same thing happens with virtual desktop mode enabled. The shift key does not work, and random commas get inputted when num lock is activated or the num lock state is toggled. I have no idea why this happened, so I ran it in wine with the debug flags "-fixme,+x11drv,+keyboard,+event,+win" and got the error log attached. I will try to explain the situation with HoM&M: As I start the game the 3DO animation is often shited a bit to the upper-left but moving cursor in the corner upper-left corner centers it. Now while playing the actual game at some point (sometimes quite soon sometimes after a while) while trying to y see the desktop. The resmove the map with a cursor you start to move the whole game screen. When game screen is shifted you can clearlolution is 800x600 ("Heroes" resolution) but desktop seem to be size 1280x1024 which is the native resolution of my display. This bug obviously makes playing impossible and the only solution for now is to change the resolution before starting the game which is not really convenient. As I've mentioned in the beginning the same bug applies to Portal prelude which at first opened in 1280x960 for some reason. Of course with portal the situation is much better becuse you can actually change the game's resolution, not so much with HoM&M. I tried 1.9.2, 1.9.20, 1.9.24, 1.7.55 versions: issue is 100% reproducible. Also, I tried to skip first save point and save on second save point, but it also lead game to crash. Error is: Unhandled exception: divide by zero in 32-bit code (0x00900463). I'm using Play on linux. Game is in separate clear x86 prefix. After creating prefix I have installed Steam through play on linux, and after that I installed Dead Space from the Steam menu. I have backtraces for 1.7.55, 1.9.2 and 1.9.24. It installs with "Insufficient buffer" and crashes on startup with "The program phontool.exe encountered a serious problem and has had to close etc. and Insufficient buffer" on Fax capture installation. There is absolutely nothing in Linux that will handle this modem correctly. I just installed wine-staging 3.13 (both amd64 and i386) on my Ubuntu 16.04.5 (xenial) x86_64 and try to install World Of Tanks and play it. The installer downloads fine and installs fine. But when I open the game (with both `wine` and `wine64`), the game loads fine and connects fine, but hangs forever *just before* the garage screen opens up. Then I try to open it up through a terminal so I can see the output log.
