After importing the registry entries from 33661, the installer gets a bit further, to the point of copying files. Since it is possible to work around this issue by disabling the intro videos in the game's config tool, I presume this bug is video/codec related and should probably be linked to some other bug with more details on the true source of the symptoms described here. Unfortunately there isn't a 5.14 build available to install.
