log after trying to enter game with D3D11 graphics
While The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) runs fine in Wine (target OS: Win7)
with the GraphicsCore=OpenGL or GraphicsCore=D3D9 selected in
.wine/drive_c/users/USERNAME/My Documents/The Lord Of The Rings
Online/UserPreferences.ini, it does not work with D3D11 (or D3D10 but that is a
different topic).
- select Win7 as target OS in WINE
- install the game from https://www.lotro.com/en/game/download and create an
account
- once game is installed and fully patched, click the 'v' down arrow button in
the launcher, click options, and make sure "use legacy client" is checked to
avoid incompatibility with the ingame store browser (this does not affect the
graphics options available!)
- quit the launcher
- edit UserPreferences.ini and
- after installation and fully patching close the launcher, edit the above
UserPreferences.ini and set GraphicsCore=D3D11 .
- start the launcher with "wine TurbineLauncher.exe" from the install folder
- log in, select a world and start
=> the launcher closes, but the game engine immediately crashes without opening
a window with the attached console errors

Wine terminal outout
I'm testing Home Designer Suite 21.3.1.1x64 on 5.3-rc3 with the patch from bug
48371 applied, and using "winetricks vcrun2017" as suggested in bug 48377.
After starting home designer and opening a new plan, I am trying to get a 3D
view of my first enclosed space.
First, I use the external wall tool to draw an enclosed space with four walls.
Then, from the Home Designer menu bar I select "3D -> Create Camera View ->
Full Camera". That creates a camera cursor on cross-hairs, which I can move
around with the mouse to where I want to position the camera. Then I
left-mouse-button down and drag to point the camera in some direction.
When I release the mouse button, the Home Designer window goes blank, and I get
a popup that says "A serious error occurred. ... Please restart the program and
contact Technical Support." I can use "File -> Exit" to leave the program.
I've attached the terminal output from Wine.

Every now and then (3-15 minutes from starting the game) my mouse input starts
malfunctioning every time I switch between character controls (Character spins
and mouse homes in to the top or bottom) or an interface such as the PDA or
Fabricator (Mouse stops responding).
Alt-Tabbing out and back (or switching desktop away and back) fixes it but only
until enter another interface or exit the one I was in.
Only semi-permanent fix is restarting the game completely.
I couldn't find any pattern in what triggers it. Alt-tabbing or desktop
switching alone doesn't. It can happen with any of the interfaces I used so far
(Storage / PDA, Fabricator, Mobile vehicle bay). It is always triggered when
entering an interface, never when leaving it, but once triggered the Alt-Tab
fix has to be done every time after either entering or leaving an interfaace,
until game is restarted.
Reproduced every time I play, after a seemingly random interval.

Depends on: 42470
Distribution: Gentoo
This is related to bug 42470. There seem to be two separate issues
A) frequent critical section timeouts, native msvcrt seems to help here (and
potentially Dmitry's patch from bug 42470, but B) makes that hard to verify)
B) this issue. mscorsvw.exe from dotnet20/dotnet40 frequently hang:

This was in a loop running winetricks-test dotnet 100 times. This particular
run failed on try 11. It's been hung for at least 7.5 hours:
Sun Feb 26 12:35:33 CST 2017
These two issues are making it difficult to run winetricks-test (and I suspect
are the source of a lot of recently filed winetricks bugs regarding dotnet.
I'm not sure what logs would be useful here, but I'm happy to get whatever
would be useful.

Summary: Can display characters with WM_SETFONT but not with
DrawText - same font Arial
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: gdi32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: forums(a)robertinventor.com
Classification: Unclassified
I used CreateFontIndirect to create the font, with "Arial Unicode MS" as the
font name.
Using GetTextFace(..) I find that the font actually created is "Arial".
In one place I set it as the font for a text control using
WM_SETFONT
In another place I draw the text directly to a window using DrawTextW(..)
I'm using characters such as:
☀ ☁ ☂ ☃ ☄ ★ ✾ ✰ ✲ ✳ ❉ ✿ ❂ ✺ ❀
They get shown fine in the text control.
But when drawn directly to the window with DrawTextW you just see boxes.
To make sure it isn't some error in my code, I made sure to use EXACTLY THE
SAME FONT HANDLE in both cases. Same thing happens as before.
Under Windows both show the same way..
So, just want to know - why can't DrawTextW find the font glyphs used by
WM_SETFONT?
Seems like a bug of some sort, so that's why reported it here as a bug.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS
I had a similar result when it was able to find Arial Unicode MS - in that case
again showed them all fine with WM_SETFONT, but when I used DrawTextW, only the
★ of ★ ✾ ✰ ✲ was shown correctly.
If I install unifont, then it finds it as the best match for "Arial Unicode
MS", and then shows the characters in both cases correctly (but is no good for
my purposes, too pixellated).
THIS IS A VERY MINOR FEATURE
It is a minor feature of my app so not a priority bug to fix, just for
completeness. I am about to submit my app to the Wine database and this is one
of the remaining unfixed differences when testing for compatibility of the app
with Windows.

Sibelius 3 shows wrong tooltips in the Keypad window. Clearly these are not
"Save As" buttons and such. But somehow the topmost row of five buttons has
still the right tooltips.
Is it possible that the two windows (main & Keypad) would have separate string
resources with overlapping identifiers but Wine just uses the main window's
resources for both?
There was a demo version of the program, but it's not officially available
anymore, as the most recent version is Sibelius 5. However, a Sibelius 3 Demo

I've tested from 1.8.x to most recently version, even with Wine Staging
patched, it always occur.
WineX11 or WineMac doesn't affect it.
All OS version from 10.9 to 10.13 have the same problem.
My computer model is MacBook Air 2014-early, the CPU is i5-4260U and GPU is
Intel HD 5000.
I can ensure that it is not a bug in ddraw because there is a ddraw.dll written
from scratch which uses GDI to render, but it doesn't affect at all.
It is strange that there is no crash log or backtrack message appears, only
screen frozen.

Heroes of Might and Magic IV (GOG Complete version) launches normally, loads up
a map normally, and while the exploration map works fine, in combat, it is
extremely choppy (the animations look like they are played at a frame per
second). The cursor movement and everything else works fine, just the
animations that don't work. It makes the game practically unplayable. Tested
also on 3.15 and it is the same way.

a driver problem. But i still want to know what in wine triggers it. It's not a
kernel regression (i've checked with old kernels), it's not wine's regression
(i've checked with stable releases from 1.6 and with 3.19 now). I need help to

The latest Full Tilt Poker runs normally and everything works. But when you try
to exit (either via the "X" button or "Lobby->Exit") the program hangs, and
never ends. This has two side effects. Firstly, the preferences you choose do
not get saved (as the program does not terminate the way it should (save user
options, etc)) and secondly, when you try to launch the program again, the
characters appear ugly and unreadable, and this is a known issue that gets
fixed by killing the first, existing process.

Summary: Quicken 2014 - NtAreMappedFilesTheSame fails to
compare builtin dlls with stub dlls
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.30
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: ntdll

test program
Hi,
Quicken 2014 loads the stub ntdll from C:\Windows\System32 as file mapping and
tries to compare it with all loaded file mappings using
NtAreMappedFilesTheSame. Wine does not support comparing a mapped stub dll with
the loaded dll, so that the function returns STATUS_NOT_SAME_DEVICE every time,
causing Quicken 2014 to enter an endless loop.
Since this issue is currently blocked by bug 37487 and bug 37449, I wrote a
small C snippet which can be compiled with mingw that demonstrates the issue.
On Windows the program prints "Same file!" while on Wine it prints "Different
file!".
Regards,
Michael

I have noticed a lot of crashes the last weeks with Guild Wars 2. Now I figured
out that this happens at every full hour. At this time ntp is adjusting my
clock so this is my first hint.
I have adjusted manually the time and if the time is set to an earlier state
then the game currently has the sound will be disabled. It will be enabled
again if the time is equal or higher then the "normal" time. The missing sound
is independent of the value of the option "In-Game Clock". The In-Game Clock is
using in every case the system clock so this could be the reason.
This way I couldn't reproduce the crashes but I will now disable ntp and report
back if something changes.

think if PulseAudio is not used by the system for example because only ALSA is

After solving the other issue where an upgrade of libcups2 caused Wine to

With a clean wine profile and the Windows version set to Windows 7 (as the
system requirement for this game is Windows 7-10) on starting the game nothing
happens and the game has a CPU usage of ~55% on one core and the wineserver has
a CPU usage of ~60% on one core. If I'm setting the Windows version to Windows
XP the game does start but crashes after the first screen is shown. For both
cases is the terminal output in the attachments.

This is where the "array index out of bounds" warning comes from. The shader
translator should have converted "c822" to a uniform, but instead put it in an
array.
I got hopelessly lost in the Wine source, I couldn't find the error myself,
unfortunately. :(
Hopefully this helps someone more knowledgeable with these things!

GW2-generated crash log
Guild Wars 2 crashes on my laptop psuedorandomly while playing the game. I
managed to create a reproduceable version of the crash: all I have to do is
toggle the visibility of my helmet slot in my Hero's Equipment panel (a feature
designed for those who don't want ugly helmets covering their character's
faces) and the game will reliably crash.
I am using 64bit wine. I reproduced the crash initially in 2.0.0-rc3-staging,
then in 2.0.0-rc3, and then again in 1.7.35. I haven't tested any other
versions.
The crash does NOT occur on my desktop despite similar wine versions and
configurations. The main difference between the laptop and the desktop is that
the desktop uses the proprietary nvidia blob on a GTX 780, and the laptop uses
integrated intel HD 5500 graphics. The laptop and desktop are running the
debian 4.8.0 kernel.
As an aside, another laptop I have running debian is using a nvidia mobile GPU
(don't remember the model) via bumblebee and it also has no problems with
crashing in GW2.
I have some modest debugging skills: poking around in a debugger shows that the
crash occurs in what appears to be blitting code (the Gw2-64.exe binary makes
string references to "ImgBlt.cpp" in the area). The fault instruction is a rep
movsb. During normal operation the rep movsb's operands are in low memory
ranges (mask 0xFFFFFFFF), but when it crashes one operand is
(0x0222000000000000) which is not valid memory and causes a crash.
I do not have a Windows machine so I do not know if Windows has the same crash;
I presume not.
I have attached the Arenanet.log file which contains some information about
what went wrong. It may contain multiple crashes; I'm not very familiar with
these GW2-specific crashlogs so I'm not sure. These are made by GW2's built-in
crash logger. If anyone wants another crash log format you'll have to tell me
how to disable GW2's built-in one.
If anyone wants me to do any specific debug actions or logs I'll be happy to
try them.

Diagnosed by Andrew Wesie; partially split off from bug 45327.
The game inspects the %cs register to determine if it is running under WoW64.
Since Linux 32-bit code segment is the same as the
WoW64 32-bit code segment, 0x23, the anti-cheat will expect to be in a WoW64
environment regardless of whether the prefix is 32- or 64-bit.
Consequently the game will try to use the Wow64Transition export if it is

WOW32Reserved TEB field (i.e. %fs:0xc0), and verifies that the latter matches

This can be solved either by moving the syscall dispatcher to wow64cpu.dll, or
by implementing Wow64Transition.

Bug ID: 37983
Summary: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (GOG.com version) - music
doesn't work
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.35
Hardware: x86-64
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: rixa(a)cs.tut.fi
Distribution: ---
The game originally used to have background music on CD audio tracks. The
recent GOG.com release includes those tracks in .ogg format, along with what
seems to be some sort of a hack to play them through a custom winmm.dll in the
game directory.
The music does not play.
For the included winmm.dll to do anything, an override of "winmm
(native, builtin)" seems like a logical step. Indeed, it was reported on the
GOG.com forums that this gets the music working on Crossover, and I used the
trial version to verify that this is indeed the case.
But if I do the same on Wine, the game doesn't start anymore. It just dies
with:
err:seh:raise_exception Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable to
dispatch exception.
I tried to trace it down to other overrides that crossover sets by default, but
it would still work even if I removed them all. It would even keep working if I
replaced the entire drive_c there with the one from my wineprefix where it
doesn't work, so it probably does not have to do with any of the pre-installed
software, nor an installation broken for whatever reason. Using wine on the
prefix installed in crossover didn't work any better either.
In addition to a clean unpatched wine 1.7.35 that I compiled myself, I tried
multiple versions of wine from PlayOnLinux but none of them started the game
with the override in place; each died with the same message.
Without the override the game is still very playable, just has no background
music.
Xubuntu 14.10, nvidia 331.113.

Bug #: 33375
Summary: Cannot test dlls with dashes in their name
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.19

OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal

Created attachment 44165

Patch to reproduce this bug
No conformance test can be written for dlls that have a dash in their name.
These will first run into a build error:
echo "api-ms-win-security-base-l1-1-0_test.exe TESTRES
\"api-ms-win-security-base-l1-1-0_test-stripped.exe.so\"" |
LD_LIBRARY_PATH="../../../libs/wine:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH" ../../../tools/wrc/wrc
--nostdinc --po-dir=../../../po -m32 -I. -I. -I../../../include
-I../../../include -DWINE_STRICT_PROTOTYPES -DWINE_NO_NAMELESS_EXTENSION
-DWIDL_C_INLINE_WRAPPERS -o
../../../programs/winetest/api-ms-win-security-base-l1-1-0_test.res
:1:5: Error: syntax error
What surprises me is that the dot on the 'TESTRES' left-hand causes no problem
while the dashes do. I tried quoting that string but it did not help.
The next problem is that if the TESTRES left-hand is modified to work around
that issue, then winetest.exe will not be able to find the corresponding dll
anymore and will thus skip the test. Filtering the list of tests to run based
on the command line will likely be broken too.
I'm attaching a patch to reproduce this issue.

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45032
Bug ID: 45032
Summary: WineTest does not run the vcomp tests
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: vcomp
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: fgouget(a)codeweavers.com
Distribution: ---
So WineTest is not running the vcomp tests. What happens is this:
* It parses the vcomp_test.exe filename and concludes that this tests the vcomp
dll.
* It does a LoadLibraryExA("vcomp.dll", NULL, LOAD_LIBRARY_AS_DATAFILE) which
fails (as expected) and concludes that the dll is missing:
vcomp=dll is missing
* Since the dll is missing WineTest skips the vcomp tests.
According to Dan Kegel (see bug 31609) this is a manifest / activation context
issue and he sent a patch for it [1]. However the patch was for the TestBot
[2], not WineTest, and as far as I can tell it's not working.
Furthermore WineTest already has activation context code that seems equivalent
to Dan Kegel's patch.
Note that not all VMs have vcomp.dll. Based on the current results the 32 bit
dll is present on the TestBot's w2000pro, wxppro, w2003std, wvistau64*,
w2008s64, w8, w864 VMs and the 64 bit one is present on wvistau64, w2008s64 and
w864.
Note that some online resources seem to imply that vcomp.dll is present in the
Visual C++ 2005 redistributable (and VC++ 2005 was indeed installed on all the
VMs that have vcomp.dll except w2008s64 (though maybe it was installed and it
was not written down)). Some VMs seem to have other versions such as
vcomp90.dll but not vcomp.dll.
[1] https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31609https://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2012-September/117631.html
[2] Paradoxically the TestBot has no problem running the vcomp tests now that
they dynamically load the vcomp dll. That's because the TestBot makes no
assumption based on the executable filename since one can upload test binaries
that don't follow any naming scheme. So now that the test dynamically loads
vcomp.dll the TestBot cannot check for it.

I am attempting to run the NCSoft Launcher on Wine so that I may download and
play the game Blade&Soul. The application is NCLauncher2.exe, you can grab it
from here: https://launcher.patcher.ncsoft.com/NCLauncher2_Installer.exe or go
the blade and soul website, register, and be sent to that download anyway.
Here's a sha256 checksum of what I downloaded:

The program runs fine, however if you get your credentials right and actually
log in it will stop you with a crypto error. Here's the full message the
launcher spits out in the UI:
https://pastebin.com/A8ECdFqJ
Unfortunately there is no point to posting full terminal output since every
message the program dumps into the terminal is obfuscated/encrypted. I tried
running them through base64/32 -d to no avail. BUT, we can get wine to spit out
what the program is doing in the crypto engine when the error happens with
WINEDEBUG=+crypt trace file
This is what I get:

I suppose it is trying to import a certificate in some way but cannot.

Signature MSDN:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa393866%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
--- quote ---
The ExecQuery method of the SWbemServices object executes a query to retrieve
objects. These objects are available through the returned SWbemObjectSet
collection.
This method is called in the semisynchronous mode. For more information, see
Calling a Method.
For an explanation of this syntax, see Document Conventions for the Scripting
API.
Syntax
VB
objWbemObjectSet = .ExecQuery( _
ByVal strQuery, _
[ ByVal strQueryLanguage ], _
[ ByVal iFlags ], _
[ ByVal objWbemNamedValueSet ] _
)
Parameters
strQuery
Required. String that contains the text of the query. This parameter cannot
be blank. For more information on building WMI query strings, see Querying with
WQL and the WQL reference.
strQueryLanguage [optional]
String that contains the query language to be used. If specified, this
value must be "WQL".
iFlags [optional]
Integer that determines the behavior of the query and determines whether
this call returns immediately. The default value for this parameter is
wbemFlagReturnImmediately. This parameter can accept the following values.
Value Meaning
wbemFlagForwardOnly
32 (0x20)
...
Causes WMI to return class amendment data with the base class definition.
For more information, see Localizing WMI Class Information.
objWbemNamedValueSet [optional]
Typically, this is undefined. Otherwise, this is an SWbemNamedValueSet
object whose elements represent the context information that can be used by the
provider that is servicing the request. A provider that supports or requires
such information must document the recognized value names, data type of the
value, allowed values, and semantics.
--- quote ---
'strQueryLanguage' = optional, needs to be passed in between pair of empty
commands as next parameter is explicitly given
'iFlags' = optional, 48 = WBEM_FLAG_FORWARD_ONLY | WBEM_FLAG_RETURN_IMMEDIATELY
(-> forward-only enumerator)
'objWbemNamedValueSet' = optional, no passing needed (last parameter)

PoC implementation of WinRT subset in widl
In winrt mode (using --winrt or #pragma winrt), widl is unable to parse several
winrt-specific keywords and generate the corresponding interface headers.
I'm opening this bug mainly to provide my implementation (attached) as a proof
of concept, and so that it can then be tested more extensively, helping it go
upstream eventually.
I'll also attach updated series for the few WinRT stub dlls in staging,
re-implemented using idl files thanks to the new support in widl.

increase OFS_MAXPATHNAME
Since the 2020-03-25 update of MTGO client, wine fails to start the program.
It is actually due to filenames which exceed OFS_MAXPATHNAME (128).
See debug at

Increasing OFS_MAXPATHNAME256 (see patch) fixed the issue and MTGO works again.

When starting a Windows application in Wine, with desktop dimensions of e.g.
800x600, and extending the desktop dimensions to e.g. 1280x1024 while
wineserver is still running, the desktop dimensions reported to the application
are correct since the support for XRandR device change notifications in Wine
4.17.
However, the mouse coordinates in e.g. WM_MOUSEMOVE never exceed the original
desktop dimensions of 800x600.
Only restarting wineserver resolves this.
The attachment demonstrates the problem, containing a small bash script and a

In widl/utils.c:379
memcpy( output_buffer + output_buffer_pos, data, size );
the pointer data is NULL.
This is during wine build on x86-64 with default -m32 option.
I double checked it by prefixing the instruction with "assert(data)" as in
assert(data),memcpy( output_buffer + output_buffer_pos, data, size );

The Rockstar Games Launcher installer (NSIS-based) contains hyperlinks which do
nothing when clicked.
The NSIS script does the following:
- fetches the content of
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\http\UserChoice\ProgId
- take that value and get the content of HKCR\$value\shell\open\command
- concatenate the URL after that command, and execute it
Two fixes are needed: one to add the UrlAssociations keys, and one for
winebrowser to handle URLs which are missing a scheme (i.e. 'http://')
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\http\UserChoice\ProgId
needs to be set to 'http'.
HKCR\http\shell\open\command is already set to
'"C:\windows\system32\winebrowser.exe" -nohome'.
With a UrlAssocations key for http added, "C:\windows\system32\winebrowser.exe"
www.rockstargames.com/eula is what gets executed.
But xdg-open on Linux requires URLs to have a scheme, and fails unless changes
are made to winebrowser.

(This isn't a new issue, but I couldn't find any existing bug reports about
this)
This doesn't prevent the installers from working, as it only pops up at the end
of the installation, so it's not a major issue.
The smallest installer for a free game I could find (so far) that can reproduce
this issue is Stargunner: https://www.gog.com/game/stargunner . There are other
smaller installers (such as Ultima 4), but they don't contain this issue (at
least not when I tested them).

Returning S_FALSE instead of S_OK fixes the crash (though music still fails to
play).
Though I haven't used a debugger, I suspect the reason NOLF crashes here is
because it will try to access ppSegment (which has not been modified by
GetMotif) if it returns S_OK.
I'm not sure if any other lithtech games are affected.

Summary: VBScript fails to parse decimal literals between -1
and 1 without 0 in front
Product: Wine

In a VBScript script file decimals such as .2 and -.1 wrongly result in a
parsing error. No parsing error occurs if a zero is placed in front such as 0.2
and -0.1
Sample script that fails parsing:
Dim x
x = .2
WScript.Echo(x)

Summary: SDL GameControllerAddMapping registry keys do not work
Product: Wine
Version: 5.0
Hardware: x86
OS: Mac OS X
Status: UNCONFIRMED

Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: zakk(a)rsdio.com
The registry entries to add SDL controller mappings do not work
(HKLM/CurrentControlSet/Services/WineBus/Map)
I've discovered the enumeration of the subkeys fails with ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED
If I change the RegOpenKeyExW call (line 1039 of bus_sdl.c) to use KEY_READ
instead of KEY_ENUMERATE_SUB_KEYS the enumeration succeeds and the controller
mappings are passed to SDL.
The registry keys were created with the stock wine regedit program.
I can provide a diff if really required, but I feel like this might be an issue
that needs solving somewhere else (perhaps the default permissions on registry
key creation need tweaking?)

With wine set to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Wine Direct3D MaxVersionGL 30002
a FillEllipse and DrawEllipse error occurs when using a windows vst (Serum)
that uses d2d1.
Without setting MaxVersionGL 30002 the display is blank (black).
Setting MaxVersionGL 30002 enables the display but also causes the FillEllipse
and DrawEllipse errors which result in drawing errors.
Video card is a Radeon HD 6670.

Summary: Hard link creation from a Finddupe-generated batch
file fails (needs fsutil.exe implemented)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.44
Platform: x86-64
URL: http://www.sentex.net/~mwandel/finddupe/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: RandomAccountName(a)mail.com
Finddupe has an option to generate a batch file that can be run later to create
hard links for the duplicate files it find, but these batch files don't work in
Wine:
wine: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\fsutil.exe"
The particular command it's using is this:
fsutil hardlink create "C:\test6\testfile_1.gif" "C:\test6\testfile.gif"
Copying over fsutil.exe from WinXP lets it work as expected (aside from the
native app producing corrupted output). Fsutil is documented here:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en…
A lot of these functions probably wouldn't translate to Wine well (setting NTFS
attributes, etc.) but "fsutil hardlink create" seems to do the same thing as
CreateHardLink...

Summary: HID doesn't work on macOS Catalina and Big Sur unless
"Input Monitoring" permission is granted
Product: Wine
Version: 5.22
Hardware: x86-64
OS: Mac OS X
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: hid
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: bshanks(a)codeweavers.com
On macOS Catalina and Big Sur, if the user-level app (usually Terminal) doesn't
have permission granted for "Input Monitoring" in System Preferences ->
Security & Privacy, the IOHID support in winebus will fail with 'Couldn't open
IOHIDManager.'.
And when Wine is quitting and the driver unloads, it tries to call the
IOHIDManager that was already released, causing a crash.
IOHIDManagerOpen() is failing with kIOReturnNotPermitted because it actually
tries to "open" every matching device, which is every HID device on the system,
including the keyboard (which requires Input Monitoring permission).
(Yes, this API design is very confusing, and poorly documented).
Better is to open individual devices instead, so even if the keyboard fails to
open other devices will still work.
Also it would be ideal to not "open" a device until it's necessary, so there
won't be a permission prompt unless a Windows app actually wants to read from
the keyboard. Currently some part of Wine's HID stack requests input reports
when the device gets enumerated, triggering the permission prompt.
