Bug ID: 48815
Summary: user32:win "unexpected 0x738 message" Windows 10
failures
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Hardware: x86
OS: Windows
Status: NEW
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: user32
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: fgouget(a)codeweavers.com
user32:win sometimes fails complaining about an unexpected 0x738 message:
win.c:3858: Test failed: message 0738 available
or
win.c:3852: Test failed: hwnd 00210500 message 0738
This second message includes the window handle which means it is "always new",
which can cause the TestBot to mistakenly attribute the failure to the patch
being tested. So I bumped the priority on this bug.
>From what I gathered the 0x738 message was introduced in Windows 10 1703 which
is why this failure only happens on our 1709+ test configurations (we don't
have 1703). Also nobody seems to know what this message is, only that it seems
to be related to windows belonging to the UserAdapterWindowClass:

This bug describes a third problem from bug 22533. The game has an intro video
compressed in RLE but the biCompression is not set to "mrle", it is "RLE " so
comctl32 skips trying to find a codec and uses built-in capabilities of gdi32
to decompress the frames.
Unfortunately the gdi32 decompressed frames have artifacts in the shape of
lines as if the RLE is not being decompressed correctly. A workaround is to
force comctl32 to use msrle32, but I think there could be a problem in gdi32.
This bug is a mental note to myself and I'll try to handcraft a frame that
displays the issue and add to tests when I have more time.

Steps to reproduce:
-Download Braid Demo from http://www.playgreenhouse.com/game/NNONE-000001-01/
-Install and run it
-Enter the first level and play until you have collected at least one puzzle
piece
(this takes just one minute)
-You can now exit the level and go back to the house
-Stand in front of the puzzle area and use it
-On this screen you are supposed to be able to move the pieces around by
placing
the cursor over them, holding any Shift key and using the cursor keys or WASD
-This works on Windows; but with Wine I need to press both (left and right)
Shift
keys to be able to move a piece
Notes:
-Only the puzzle screen is affected. Rest of the game works with any Shift key.
-Once both Shift keys have been pressed in order to "grab" a piece one can let
go
one key and is still able to move the piece around until one lets go of the
2nd
Shift key. Only then the piece is "released"

A Java sample program
Symptom:
Calls to java.nio.file.Files.isWritable() always return false, even though the
specified file is very definitely writable – the same Java program running
under Linux correctly returns true for the same file.
Software versions:
Arch Linux (x86-64)
Wine 2.10
Java 1.8.0_131-b11
Cause:
Files.isWritable ends up calling
sun.nio.fs.WindowsFileSystemProvider.checkAccess, which via
WindowsFileStore.create calls the WindowsFileStore constructor. In those
WindowsFileStore methods, the Win32 API function GetVolumePathName is called
and its result passed to GetVolumeInformation – which is where the bug is.
In my case, I'm passing in the filename "Z:\tmp\winebugtest\winebugtest.java",
where Z: is the Linux root directory. Because /tmp is a separate filesystem,
the call to GetVolumePathName returns "Z:\tmp\". So far so good. But when this
is passed to GetVolumeInformation, it figures there are too many backslashes
and returns an error. This results in a Java IOException which ends up causing
isWritable to return false.
If I create a T: drive pointing to /tmp (through winecfg) everything works
correctly – GetVolumePathName resolves "T:\winebugtest\winebugtest.java" to
"T:\", GetVolumeInformation is happy and Java gets the correct result.
The Wine implementation of GetVolumeInformation in kernel32/volume.c has the
comment "there must be exactly one backslash in the name, at the end".
Microsoft's documentation, I think, disagrees:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa364993(v=vs.85).…
I have attached the relevant portions of the logs (from WINEDEBUG='+relay') and
a sample program.

Can someone make sense out of the error message? How do I get around this?

MS Word 2013 in ar_YE.UTF-8 locale
I did a clean prefix as follows
created Win 7 32bit
Then installed from WineTricks: Core Fonts, Tahoma Font, msxml6, riched20,
usp10
and Added reg key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Wine\\Direct3D]
"MaxVersionGL"=dword:00030002
Then installed Office 2013 Pro (Arabic Version)
Installation went fine with one minor problem: I cannot customize installation.
Once I hit the down arrow to show drop down menu to customize which component
to choose from. Once I hit to show, it drops down and disappear in half a
second.
I was able to run all programs except:
OneNote shows a message cannot continue please install Windows Desktop
Experience
Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook run fine so far.
One major problem with all running applications is Arabic representation:
Word Arabic letters are not connected at all and are typed from left to
right as if English.
Others Other apps type Arabic in the right way with no problem.
All Arabic letters are not connected in main menu and sub menus in all
apps. Letter are typed from right to left correctly but not connected
If I switch the locale language to Arabic for example ar_YE.UTF-8:
Word Arabic letters are still not connected but word direction is fine
(rtl); however, English is typed from right to left
Others Other apps work fine.
All Menus still have the same problem
I attached a picture of Word 2013 in ar_YE.UTF-8 locale. English words (This is
a book) are type backward, and All Arabic letters are not connected, although
some tips boxes and sub sub menus are fine.

Clicking inside the viewports in UnrealEd 3.0 (Unreal Tournament 2004, Unreal
II: The Awakening) results in nothing happening. Surfaces are not selected, and
the context menu on right-click is not brought up. That prevents the user from
changing level geometry in any way and adding new actors to the level. However,
dragging the mouse correctly moves the camera, so the issue is only with single
clicks.
In addition, selecting textures in the texture browser results in only the last
texture (the one closest to the lower right corner of the browser) to be
selected, instead of the one that was clicked on. These two issues are probably
related to each other. Neither of these issues appear in UnrealEd 2, which is
otherwise pretty similar to UnrealEd 3.

I have a program (HP Chemstation G1701BA) which ha two 16-bit components
(MSTOP.EXE and MSCONFIG.EXE) which inspect their own allocated local heaps to
find their menus.
They use TOOLHELP.DLL to do this(LocalFirst() and LocalNext()) .
However, the Wine implementation of toolhelp.dll does not return any of the
moveable local heap handles, only the fixed ones. This causes both programs to
error during menu building with an internal 'CP Object not found' error.
I have an unfinished test implementation of toolhelp.dll that handles moveable
handles which seems to resolve this issue.

Terminal log of process
Download pack.
Open installer, select 'Professional Edition', do not associate with media
player, untick create quicklaunch icon, untick virus scan.
Installer gets half way then gives message:
Access violation at address 3CB16DAF in module 'quartz.dll'. Read of address
00000000
Refreshes desktop and appears to have created an icon for quicktime in the
systray.
Installer then hangs.
Ending 'Dashboard.exe' process allows it to progress to the finish screen.
Then clicked a few things on the Quicktime icon which I think accounts for the
last bit of the log. No actual 'err' occurs during the installation process

See test document.
Here are screenshots of how it worked at wine 1.5.16 [1] and currently [2]
(since 1.5.26 when bug 32661 was fixed).
Although it's a regression, I'm not sure how I could bisect it because bug
32661 blocks testing.
Also, if you try putting cursor to the right of second formula and try typing
several letters, overtyping ghost 'r' letter, the formula will disappear.
This could have something to do with new font rendering since all fonts have
been extended to the right if you compare these images by switching from one to
another, so component selection might be wrong.

[Yeah, yeah, I know, one should usually run netbeans with

for a splendid test of wine, one that we should at least
not fall over immediately on.]
Install the latest JDK first.
wine netbeans-6.0-javase-windows.exe
either hangs or exits silently.
Sometimes it's after printing

Sometimes it gets a bit further and hangs or exits silently after printing
fixme:shell:UnixFolder_IShellFolder2_GetDefaultColumnState stub
Out of paranoia, I copied the installer to c:\ and turned off the z:\
drive to see if the hang was it pawing through all my files, but that didn't
change much.

"+ole,+rpc,+storage,+variant" log for "Unable to create InstallDriver instance"
error (not "1158:" error)
Greetings oh amazing Wine developers and maintainers,
I've been trying to install Peachtree Pro Accounting 2007, but I get various
errors. Sometimes when I try to run the installer a window pops up and a
progress bar starts chugging before it errors out with a popup message saying
"Unable to create InstallDriver instance, Return code: -2147221164". Other
times an InstallShield popup that says "1158:" appears immediately. In both
cases I start with a fresh prefix. It seems like I get the "Unable to create
InstallDriver instance" error if I haven't tried the installation recently,
otherwise I get the "1158:" error, even if I've rebooted lately.
If I get the "Unable to create InstallDriver instance" error then I get the
following stderr messages in the console:
err:ole:create_server class {e9513610-f218-4dda-b954-2c7e6ba7cabb} not
registered
err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {e9513610-f218-4dda-b954-2c7e6ba7cabb}
could be created for context 0x4
If I get the "1158:" error there are no stderr messages.
I looked at the error log, and I saw stuff for ole32, oleaut32, and rpc; I
guessed that this is an ole32 bug, but you'd know better than I would.
I'd like to take a moment to say thanks for Wine, I'm always amazed at the fact
that it can emulate Windows in Linux. My hat's off to you people who can
reverse-engineer DCOM and such. What fantastic complexity!

Since disabling d3d8 and d3d9 (in winecfg) has no effect.
However the application fails to launch in a Windows 7 VM - which has
VirtualBox 3D acceleration enabled. Complaining about a lack of 3D support.
I've attached the first 1,000,000 lines of the log file (xz compressed). With:

The actual log file was 2.5 Gbytes and the application still hadn't done

terminal output
The game is from the same developer as Bermuda from bug #39093, however, this
looks like a different issue and the hack/patch from that bug report doesn't
help.
The game is starting and music begins to play which sounds like the main menu
theme, but no visible window is created and the game constantly uses 70-80%
CPU.
In virtual desktop mode I can only see the empty VD, in fullscreen mode the
game icon is present in the taskbar, but clicking on it has no effect.
Tested under Gnome 3 and XFCE 4.12 (no compositor).
The problem can be reproduced with the demo version available on Steam. After
installation the demo can be launched without Steam running (but corefonts need
to be installed).
Maybe unrelated, but I have similar problem with another game in bug #35243.

Is there an easy way to search for regressions in the appdb?
The current search filters don't seem to do the trick - but with a small
change, they could.
Right now you can have multiple filters active, e.g.
Active filters
Rating = platinum
Rating = garbage
Wine version < 1.0.1
Wine version > 1.2rc1
but the combination doesn't seem well defined. If rating & wine version
were grouped, e.g.
Active filters
Rating = platinum and Wine version < 1.0.1
Rating = garbage and Wine version > 1.2rc1
that would do fine. Or is there a better way?

Fairy Fencer F doesn't run on 64-bit wine. It requires wmp9 or wmp10 in
winetricks, both of which aren't installable in a 64-bit prefix. The game also
simply exits in abscence of video playback, unlike the neptunia games which
just display a three-ish second black screen. Worth noting is that FFF uses
directx9 unlike the neptunia games. There are no crash logs attached because it
doesn't crash, it exits. If anyone needs any more debug logs, I'll gather them
and attach them.
There are other issues involved with FFF that I'll file reports for after this
one, but this one is rather odd.
My copy of wine was built with support for everything possible sans ntlm_auth.
I've tested this in vanilla wine as well as staging (since I use that unless
I'm testing for issues, like here.)
Additionally, steam was tested both with dwrite disabled and enabled due to
recent commits. Neither results in any change whatsoever.

I am using a stock Dell Optiplex 330 with an extra SATA Hard Drive inside. I'm
using my on-board graphics card, and I have no idea how to check what kind of
card it is from within Linux. I have an old ASUS card laying around, or an old
AMD Radeon that I could try if that's really the issue.
==Description of Events==
Nexon launcher installs without visible issue. After installing Nexon
Launcher...
First start:
"Updating Launcher" window appears after a short time; crashes with attached
details ("Backtrace.txt"). Launcher remains active in task-bar. Clicking
launcher in task-bar does nothing. Task manager shows multiple instances of
"C:/Program" running. Killed all instances of "C:/Program" in task manager.
Second start:
Login dialogue appears after a longer time. Entering valid log-in credentials
crashes the launcher with attached details ("Backtrace2.txt"). Invalid
credentials are rejected naturally. Launcher remains active in task-bar.
Clicking launcher in task-bar does nothing. Task manager shows multiple
instances of "C:/Program" running. Killed all instances of "C:/Program" in task

Third start:
Nothing happens. "C:/Program" appears in task-manager.
==My To-Do List==
Until further notice, my plan is to...
1. Restart the computer and try again.
2. Read and attempt to apply information from here:

3. Take my best shot at the steps outlined here:

4. Do whatever you guys tell me to do. Seriously. Just say the word. If beer
will help you solve this issue, I'll buy. If taking your dog out will give you
more time, I'll do that too. Laundry? Vacuum? Dishes? Pizza? You got it. Just

To reproduce:

- replace Program Files/Strategy First/Galactic Civilizations Demo/Data dir
with the attached file
- launch the game (wait until intro screens are passed)
- hit "Restore Last Civilization" in the main menu
- hit 3 times the different "Done" buttons
- right-click on the lower ship to start the battle
(hit Esc then "Quit Game" to exit the game once the battle is finished)

Setting HKCU\Software\Wine\Direct3D\DirectDrawRenderer=gdi in the registry

Bug #: 33155
Summary: Broken winmm recording when using an ACM codec
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.25
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winmm&mci
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
Classification: Unclassified
Extracted from bug #33045, comment #18
wavein recording using the ACM needs rethinking. Currently, it does anything
from hanging, crashing or recording broken streams.
- WID_PullACMData looks incomplete. It starts with checking
device->acm_hdr as if it could persist from a prior invocation,
however it frees it when returning normally. Thus it should remain
local to the function, with device->acm_offs. In error
situations, the current code may break, because it may see
device->acm_hdr.cbDstLength != 0 on entry from a prior
acmStreamConvert MMSYSERR_* return.
- WID_PullACMData needs better error handling. If acmStreamConvert
returns an error, the IACaptureClient buffer remains locked, causing
any subsequent access to error out: recording stalls.
- In WID_PullACMData, the queue->lpNext condition looks bogus in the
light of IMA_ADPCM's 256 bytes block size.
- More generally, PullACMData needs a redesign. What to do when
srcLengthUsed < packet_frames ?!?
I.e. when the mmdevapi packet length does not match the codec's blocksize,
e.g. using 10ms packets while IMA_ADPCM likely needs multiples of 256 bytes.
- We should not throw away recorded bytes given enough buffers.
- mmdevapi does not accept retrieving less than one packet...
- mmdevapi does not allow choosing the packet size.
- WID_PullACMData does not yet handle WOM_DONE correctly. The
other bug report contains a patch.

Summary: eBahn 3.1.0: crashes with page fault on launch
Product: Wine
Version: 1.9.0
Hardware: x86

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: dsempsro(a)gmail.com

eBahn Reader 3.1.0 (Bentley auto repair manual reader application) crashes with
a page fault as soon as it is launched. The error appears to be thrown from
hsppp.dll, which is a native DLL installed with the application, but the
backtrace seems to suggest that urlmon may be responsible. See attached
backtrace for details.
Some background info and notes...
1. I originally tried to install the application in a clean 32-bit prefix, but
the install failed with a DLL not found error:
err:module:import_dll Library MFC42.DLL (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\eBahn\\KSCSV.ocx") not found
At that point I created a new prefix and installed mfc42 with Winetricks (no
overrides created BTW), then installed the eBahn application. The install
succeeded. Then I launched the application and got the initial popup screen
asking for an email address. I entered that info, then it tried to launch the
main screen which is when the page fault occurred.
2. The backtrace contains some references to mshtml. I read a Crossover support
forum thread
(https://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/general/?t=27;msg=179582) that
sounded similar to my issue, and the suggestion was to install MS HTML 7 (or
IE7). I tried that, and the page fault still occurred although most if not all
the references to mshtml in the backtrace were gone.
3. Sorry I can't provide a direct download of the eBahn application because it
requires a login even though it's free. But it's easy to create an account.
Anyway here's the SHA1 sum:

World Machine preview window (little window near the top left corner) works
exclusively in 2D mode. It only shows the terrain in 2D, even when you toggle
the "3D" button immediately below it, which is to supposed to switch between 2D
and 3D preview.
This is a known issue on AppDB but apparently there is no bug reported about
this.

When I open a single project file in Prism 5.03, everything works fine (apart
from bug #24000 when closing). However, as soon as I open additional project
files, there are new windows opened (exactly as many as there are projects
open). They aren’t rendered at all and as soon as I close them, tho project
they belong to closes with them.
Also, floating notes are only shown when the first open project is focused
(screenshot 1, the yellow dialog in the middle of the Prism main window). They
aren’t shown for any other project.
Screenshot attached (I’m using a tiling WM, XMonad, so those extra windows are
particularly annoying).

RunAsDate is a nifty program to run a program with a different date. In this
case, I wanted to run Microsoft Money 2001 (bug 6189) without changing my
system clock.
A simple testcase with notepad shows it doesn't work though:
$ wine RunAsDate.exe /immediate 01/01/2001 "C:\windows\notepad.exe"
In notepad, press F5. Should see your arbitrary date. Instead, you get the
'real' time.
No terminal output.

I'd like to make two suggestions that improve user-friendliness, but that can
also avoid negative reviews in the future.
Here's what happened:
I had installed Wine, I clicked the "Launch" button, and nothing happened. At
first I thought that Wine didn't work. Later I learned that Wine is typically
started from a terminal box.
I'm sure that many other users thought the same and I assume that that's why
many of them wrote 1-star reviews.
After I had learned that WINE is started from a terminal box and after I had
installed iTunes and WinZip I had two program groups under:
Start -> Wine -> Programs
But I was surprised that a program group for Wine itself was missing.
So I have two suggestions: :-)
After installing Wine, or after clicking the "Launch" button (or both), I had
appreciated a message somewhere that said:
"Wine has been installed. Please check the Wine program group."
I also appreciate it if there's a "Wine" program group under:
Start -> Wine -> Programs
and if that Wine program group contained programs that came with Wine like Wine
File Explorer , Wine Wordpad and other Wine programs. If I can run them, for me
that's the confirmation that I need that Wine works. ;-)
Any chance that these suggestions can be picked up?
Of course they are not "carved in stone" and of course they're suggestions
only. If I missed anything, please let me know.
And last but not least, many thanks to all the nice people who make and
maintain Wine. I'm very happy with it.
PS:
- I'm using Linux/Debian10 with the LXDE graphical interface and Wine-4.0
(Debian 4.0-2)
- A screen copy of the window with the "Launch" button is found in image
"Wine1.png". At the bottom it shows a number of 5-star reviews, but even more
1-star reviews.
- Examples of these 1-star reviews can be found in image "Wine2.png". I think
that these users thought that the Wine installation didn't work, because
nothing happened after they clicked the "Launch" button.
- A photoshopped image of what the Wine group with a Wine program group could
look like can be found in image "LXDE-WineGroup.png".
- Right after the Wine installation, and when selecting
Start -> Wine
the program group "Wine" would be the first and only group there. This program
group can show programs that are part of the Wine installation, plus a number
of useful Internet shortcuts/links. I added what I could find and what I could
think of. There may be more programs or Internet shortcuts/links that can be
added there.
- For illustration purposes I kept program groups like "iTunes" and "WinZip" in
the illustration. Just like now, these subgroups will be added when installed.
- I decided to use "Wine Internet Explorer" and not "Internet Explorer" because
the first is what I get when I run the program and click
Help -> About.
- Some of you may think "Why didn't you go to the WINE forum when Wine didn't
work after installation?".
In 99% of the cases I don't have to go to forums to install programs and to run
them. I find a program also user-friendlier if I don't have to go to a forum.
For many other users going to forums also seems to be a step too far and a
number of them wrote 1-star reviews.
- This may sound like two suggestions, but the message that comes after
clicking the "Launch" button refers to the Wine program group that I also
suggested.
- I have a few bugs to report, but I haven't found out how to install the
latest development version yet.

Graphical error message and wine stack trace
Hello,
this is my first bugreport here, so please don't be too judgemental.
I tried to install the standalone version of the free to play game “Nosgoth”,
which fails. The game is downloadable at nosgoth.com after registration. The
page doesn't accept Linux user agents, so switch it to something with windows.
The new version is standalone from Steam. So it might be easier to make it
runnable.
The installation fails with an error message. I attached it together with the
stack trace from wine.
Please help me how to find the reason of the fail, probably my bug report is
way too general.
Regards,
Matthias

Wine's listview control sends LVN_ITEMCHANGED notifications as items are
updated. For example, when changing the selected item, it sends a notification
that the old item was deselected, and then sends a notification that the new
item has been selected. If an application queries the current selection during
the first notification, it will appear that no items are selected. This is
different from how Windows behaves, which appears to send notifications only
after updating all item states.
This breaks the Ancestral Quest program's Changelog feature, though this
requires the program to be purchased. It shouldn't be too hard to write tests
demonstrating this, either.

probably when changes are made to player's inventory (power-up, mission

To reproduce the problem you'll need a video file to convert, here's a small
sample video file:
http://techslides.com/demos/sample-videos/small.flv
To reproduce the problem:
1. install and start DVDFab.exe
2. switch to the Converter tab, if you see garbage in the main window switch to
another tab then switch back to Converter
3. add 'small.flv' and click on the green Start button in the lower right
corner
4. DVDFab informs you that the conversion process failed
The application comoes with native msvcr90/msvcp90, the problem doesn't exist
when you override msvcr90 to native.
Conversion used to work with the built-in msvcr90 up to this commit:

Output of glxinfo
When launching the game Overcooked, the screen is completely pink but sound is
playing, so the game probably loads fine.
According to https://is.gd/fZDr0Y and https://is.gd/u0fAGt it works out of the
box with wine 2.2 staging, but not for me.
My guess is it depends on the graphics stack but they didn't mention theirs.
The appended logs are from a wine 2.2 staging install on Lubuntu 16.04 32bit.
Clean wine prefix with no settings changed.
I tested on a different machine with another Intel card, I tested on 1.9.11, on
2.2 (without staging) and probably some more versions. I also tested with
native DirectX 9. Same pink screen every time.
I can gladly provide more logs and I can compile and test patches.

When starting the game it crashes if winegstreamer is not set to Native only.

which you click on the flashing dot at the start of the map in order to select
a car and a driver. On this page there is some small videos running which may
be the cause of the crash.
I have also tested the game using Wine Staging with all patches applied but to
no avail.
Attached is a warn+all,+quartz log, containing the crash.

apitrace dump of frame that contains shader:
Hello, I came across this by trying out Prince of Persia with virgl ad a driver
and comparing it to the host. Initially I thought it was a virgl bug, but it
seems to be proper wine where things go wrong:
Here are my findings:
When I run "wine PrinceOfPersia.exe" on the host (r600) the game is playable
but when run with the virgl driver there is not contrast in the images.
However, a apitrace created with virgl as driver and replayed on host also
renders wrong, where a apitrace recorded on the host and run via virgl renders
correctly (only op-side down, because virgl doesn't support
GL_ARB_clip_control, but disabling this extension when recording the apitrace
makes it possible to get exactly the same output like when run on the r600
host.
The difference between the two runs in the apitrace is that when run on r600 I
get a vertex shader that does:
R6.w = (R6.w * vs_c[20].z);
R6.w = (vs_c[20].z + -R6.w);
vs_out[11].x = (vs_c[16].y + -R6.w);
vs_out[10].xyzw = (R8.xyzw);
setup_vs_output(vs_out);
The same shader created via virgl does:
R6.w = (vs_c[16].y + -R6.w);
vs_out[11].x = (R6.w * vs_c[20].z);
vs_out[10].xyzw = (R8.xyzw);
setup_vs_output(vs_out);
ffp_varying_fogcoord = gl_Position.z;
gl_Position.y = gl_Position.y * pos_fixup.y;
The value ffp_varying_fogcoord is not assigned a value with the r600 version.
However, the following fragment shader uses this value in both cases:
float fog = (ffp_fog.end - ffp_varying_fogcoord) * ffp_fog.scale;
ps_out[0].xyz = mix(ffp_fog.color.xyz, ps_out[0].xyz, clamp(fog, 0.0, 1.0));
In the r600 version ffp_fog.end=0 and ffp_fog.scale=-1, and I assume that this
results in clamp(fog, 0.0, 1.0) returning 1.0, and in the scene the fog effect
seems to be generated differently. In the virgl version the values are
ffp_fog.end=1 and ffp_fog.scale=1, and I can only assume that gl_Position too
large so that clamp(fog, 0.0, 1.0) returns very small values (or even 0) and
the scene gets rendered in the fog colour overlayed by some post processing
effects.
I have not yet investigated why wine creates different code path for the two
drivers, I guess that it depends on some extension(s) that may or may not be
available.
The initial but report for virglrenderer can be found here:

The driver is present with all Windows versions since Vista. Fix is included in
Windows 8+ by default.
Technical overview/tidbits:
https://csrc.nist.gov/csrc/media/projects/cryptographic-module-validation-p…
--- quote ---
Microsoft Kernel Security Support Provider Interface (KSECDD.SYS) is a FIPS
140-2 Level 1 compliant, general purpose, software-based, cryptographic module
residing at kernel mode level of Windows Vista operating system. KSECDD.SYS
(versions 6.0.6000.16386, 6.0.6000.16870, and 6.0.6000.21067) runs as a kernel
mode export driver, and provides cryptographic services, through their
documented interfaces, to Windows Vista kernel components. The KSECDD.SYS
encapsulates several different cryptographic algorithms in an easy-to-use
cryptographic module accessible via the Microsoft CNG (Cryptography, Next
Generation) API. It also supports several cryptographic algorithms accessible
via a Fips function table request irp (I/O request packet). Windows Vista
kernel mode components can use general-purpose FIPS 140-2 Level 1 compliant
cryptography in KSECDD.SYS.
--- quote ---
Two ways to fix/work around:
- switch WinVer for the installer to Windows 8 or later
- provide a placeholder 'ksecdd.sys' with version resource
For demonstration I've copied one of Wine's existing placeholder which has a
version resource 6.5.x as dummy.
NOTE: For 64-bit WINEPREFIX you need to call with 'wine64' to have it go in
proper folder.
--- snip ---
$ wine64 cmd.exe /c copy "c:\\windows\\system32\\amstream.dll"
"c:\\windows\\system32\\drivers\\ksecdd.sys"
--- snip ---
After that the installer proceeds further. Relevant part of application log:

Graphical glitches
While investigating bug 44084 I found that the test program sometimes bugs out
and renders mostly garbage. It doesn't happen all the time, but most of the
time when you click its drop down list.
You need a 32bit WINEPREFIX and "winetricks -q dotnet40" for the program to
work. Just click the dropdown list, you might need to restart and try again if
the issue doesn't appear.
Also happens with staging-2.21, with or without CSMT.

Reported to Steam Support:
Recent Steam versions are using high CPU. This is with CPU frequencies at
minimum, which is necessary to prevent my computer from overheating. At maximum
frequency, Steam CPU usage is around 15% (and wineserver 11%).
No games are open, and the main Window has been closed. No network activity,
and no activity on the console with Steam invoked on the command line (bash).
Idle activity for Steam used to be around 5% for me.
[...]
A support person replied with this:
>As for the CPU performance issues, I've tested it on a few Windows devices and one Linux computer running Ubuntu (note I didn't test on WINE) and have been unable to reproduce the error you're seeing (all CPU usage for Steam was <1% when idle). I can only guess that this CPU performance issue is either related to WINE or a program which may be interfering with Steam.
I hope to get confirmation from other people whether this is, in fact, a bug
with Wine or just a problem with my particular setup. I'm using Ubuntu 18.04,
and this occurs with Wine 3.6 and 3.0 with the newest Steam.exe client, with
both an old 32-bit prefix and a new 64-bit prefix.

In Homesite+ (v5.5) on Windows, if while editing, you open the Find dialog
(Control+F or Search > Find), then exit it (escape key or the OS top corner
close button), the focus is restored to the editing window, with the cursor
set. Accordingly, pressing a key to type correctly shows the typed characters.
In Wine, the focus is not restored. Pressing a key results in the system beep.
Accordingly, in Wine, the user is required to use the mouse and click within
the editor area. Typing then works as normal.

Crash from entering text in passage guide.
Using wine 5.18 staging I opened a new passage guide from the guides menu.
Entering references such as jn 1, rm 2 etc and pressing enter should result in
the guide populating. This happens about half the time. However many times it
crashes. Output attached. I've tried entering text in other guides but it
appears to be only the passage guide affected. The output is different in the 2
attachments. I believe this to be a regression as it hasn't happened to me
before today when I first used 5.18 staging.

The game runs great in DX11 mode, it seems to run even smoother than in DX9
mode. However, when people are closer than 3 meters, they become invisible.
Only their glasses, eyeballs, and whatever they are holding (cigarettes,
weapons, phones etc.) are visible. When Jensen is in cover, only his hair and
his weapon is visible. In first person view the weapon is visible, but Jensen's
hand holding it is not. This glitch disappears after changing resolution, but
reappears when starting the game again.

log of the crash using +loaddll, fixme+all, warn+all, err+all
During a flight, on Windows, if the game loses the focus, it is paused
automatically (equivalent to pressing P). Under wine, the game crashes.
The game behaves normally when a menu is opened (in this case, everything is
paused, and the game doesn't crash).
If I select in winecfg "emulate a virtual desktop", the game doesn't crash
anymore because of this issue.
I tested this behaviour on ubuntu with both unity and gnome3, under wine 1.6,
wine stable (2.0.2) and wine-devel (2.16). The results were all the same.
I attached the result of the following commands:
export WINEDEBUG=+loaddll,fixme+all,warn+all,err+all
wine start 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2000\FS2000.EXE' &>log.txt
Then I started a flight and clicked outside of the game window (so that the
crash occurs).

Everytime one hovers the mouse on an instrument, then move the mouse out to let
the tooltip disappear, the game pauses. The game normally should pause only
when the game window loses focus (but when the whole window lose focus the game
crashes, see bug #43494).
This happens on all versions of wine from 1.6 to the latest devel (2.16).
There is a workaround for this (as in #43494): enable virtual desktop on
winecfg.
Everytime I reproduce this behaviour (show tooltip, move the mouse, the tooltip
disappears => game paused) this shows up in the terminal:
warn:dsound:IDirectSound8Impl_SetCooperativeLevel level=DSSCL_PRIORITY not

Hello folks,
as it says. Future Wine releases/builds will provide builtin modules by default
in PE format. It will be harder to diagnose crash logs if users put native

Brief version: I'm using wine 1.7.25 compiled from sources on a Mac probook
running OS X 10.9.5. I was able successfully install and run Steam, log in to
my Steam account, and have Steam download and install Rome Total War. When I
attempt to run Rome Total War (either through the Steam interface or through
the command line - which still calls Steam), I have managed to get it to
display the initial screen, but then it either hangs (most of the time) or
crashes. I tried running in a virtual desktop mode, no change in behavior.
More info: I previously installed wine 1.6.2 using HomeBrew. Prior to
compiling wine 1.7.25, I used HomeBrew to check for / install listed
dependencies. I'm using
WINEPREFIX=/opt/no_backup/wine
Side note: I was able to get the game working on an ubuntu system running on
virtualbox on this same Mac, however the performance was very slow - the mouse
response was very, very slow.

In Ubuntu Mate 16 I am running vDosPlus with FoxPro under Wine.
All keys go well - even cursor keys.
But since Ubuntu 18 and 20 the cursor keys are no longer available (no
reaction).
What causes this behavior?

distro: opensuse tumbleweed
version wine-32bit-5.7-3.1.x86_64
I upgraded from previous tumbleweed version to new version yesterday.
I'm running AdobeDigitalEditions that I've been using almost daily.
Today was first day to run it after the upgrade yesterday.
I'm getting Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-
bit code (0x782795a4) when I run ade after running for about a minute. It does
not seem to be reacting to what I'm doing in the UI at the time.
It's always the same address, 0x782795a4.
I invoke ADE this way:
WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.winedotnet wine c://Program\
Files//adobe//Adobe\ digital\ editions\ 4.5//digitaleditions.exe
I ran ADE under winedbg, and after a while it crashed. The backtrace is empty.
It suggests to me a stack corruption followed by a return to value overwritten
on the stack.
I am looking for any diagnostics to track down issue.
I can run in debug, compile from source, or provide necessary traces.

I don't know when this first started, but this is apparent in Wine 1.0.0
through 1.1.16.
The cursor in Rise of Nations and it's expansion Thrones and Patriots ignores
right-clicks and left-clicks. Clicking BOTH left and right mouse button acts
as a left click.
There is a workaround. Editing the rise2.ini file, setting "ForceGDICursor=1"
allows the cursor/mouse to behave normally. It also corrects a transparency
problem with the cursor.
I don't know what traces might be relevant here...

MultipleThreads test case executable - requires Zoo.dll
When a multithreaded program crashes and winedbg --auto is called to generate a
back trace, the result is not always a back trace for the thread that caused
the crash in the first place.
The attached files can be used to reproduce this problem. The program
MultipleThreads.exe takes no arguments and creates three new threads, each with
a data structure that contains a timeout variable set to 200ms and the thread
start function is set to a function in Zoo.dll. The main thread also calls the
same function in Zoo.dll with the timeout variable set to 240ms.
The function in Zoo.dll prints the value of the timeout, then sleeps for the
duration of the timeout. After this, the function prints that it will crash,
then causes an exception by a write to 0x00000000.
When I run this program, the output is non-deterministic, but more often than
not, the reported crashing thread does not match the thread which is shown in
the backtrace. The discrepancy can be seen from this output:
Thread 0x0019 *** C R A S H I N G ***
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000000 at address 0x10001123
(thread 0019), starting debugger...

Thread 0x0009 *** C R A S H I N G ***

0000001b -2
0000001a -2 <==
00000019 -2
00000009 -2
Notice how the first thread to report crash intent was 0x0019, which matches
the the page fault reported by except.c:start_debugger(). However, the thread
list generated by winedbg shows the current thread to be 0x001a.
Also notice that even though the crashing process invoked the debugger on
exception in thread 0x0019, the other three threads in the crashing process
continued to run and generated further page faults before the debugger started.
I would expect that when a crash occurs, all threads in the process would be
suspended immediately and the debugger would be able to determine the thread
that caused the exception.

Screenshot of buggy input field
I have been trying to run the "BNC Express" program in CrossOver Pro for Mac
(commercial product based on wine by CodeWeavers, and per the CrossOver support
opinion, the bug below belongs to wine. What follows is an updated repost of
the ticket in the CodeWeaver DB:
http://www.codeweavers.fr/support/tickets/browse/?ticket_id=809692
)
Quick context: BNC Express is an accounting program for the self-employed,
generating income reports validated by the french IRS, quite popular I think in
France. It looks like a VB program, publisher website here
http://www.trefle-rouge.com/ - all in french I'm afraid.
The GUI is generally OK, but there is a nasty bug whenever inputting a monies
amount in the program (which of course, happens quite a lot). You are supposed
to type in, say "45,34" (for 45 euros and 34 cents). The part after the
separator is optional. In any case, the software will the normalize the input
and turn it into "45,00" e.g. if you just entered "45". The bug is that it
misses out the separator in Wine/CrossOver. So "45,34" turns into "4534,00".
I have not found anything similar in the ticket database (neither codeweaver or
winehq) or on web. I did try to change the sDecimal and sMonDecimal values in
the Registry (seen another ticket for a VB app that was solved this way). This
DOES change the separator used when re-displaying the normalized amount
(display is set by sDecimal). But it does not change the buggy behavior of
ignoring the separator when parsing the input (it is not possible to input
anything other than numbers and , and . in monies field, the program filters it
and turns "." into "," immediately upon typing - this is an expected behavior,
same as windows).
(this is not a locale problem, the windows environment did inherit the french
locale of the Mac system all right)
When looking further, I found some vaguely reminiscent stuff on winehq, for
instance:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10765
(except the bug seems to be on parsing, not on output format)
There is a freely downloadable demo version on the TrefleRouge website above
(or I can e-mail it you if you can't find your way in the french website).
Launching the demo, loading the sample balance sheet takes you to the main
screen which is simply bill/receipts input, and the bug shows up immediately. I
have attached a screenshot of this screen with the problem highlighted.

00000022 2 'explorer.exe'
0000000e 5 'services.exe'
0000001a 3 \_ 'plugplay.exe'
00000012 4 \_ 'winedevice.exe'
The way I run RaidCall is by executing "wine start 'C:\Program
Files\RaidCall\raidcall.exe'" (after having installed the program using "wine
raidcall.exe"). The result of a "wine start 'C:\Program
Files\RaidCall\raidcall.exe' &> log-run.txt" is attached.
Killing the offending process doesn't seem to break RaidCall, at least
superficially. I have not tested deeper to see if it is a valid workaround.
I have tried using git bisect to trace the behaviour to a commit. I followed
the instructions from “MacOSX/Building” section “Build Wine git version, the
MacPorts way”
but running wine from within the build directory (i.e. skipping the make
install step):
make clean
./configure CPPFLAGS='-I/usr/X11/include -I/opt/local/include' LIBS='-lGL
-lGLU' LDFLAGS='-L/usr/X11/lib -L/opt/local/lib'
make
DYLD_FALLBACK_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/X11/lib:/usr/lib:/opt/local/lib" ./wine
raidcall.exe
DYLD_FALLBACK_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/X11/lib:/usr/lib:/opt/local/lib" ./wine start
'C:\Program Files\RaidCall\raidcall.exe'
Doing nothing but that I soon started having build problems (likely reason
being that of the “Compiling Wine on Mac OS X 10.8.2?” February 2013 wine-devel
mailing list thread) so I set CC to MacPort's clang 3.3
(@3.3_0+analyzer+python27). From then on, things went smoothly and led to the
following git commit:
[2f48b12c575c4e1afc6115a39d60722acda73d7d] gdi32: Use the Mac driver by default
Note that using the aforementioned build process the 100% CPU usage also
appears when launching the RaidCall installer, so perhaps the issue is not the
same or something else is showing up.

In Bonzai3D dialogue boxes are inactive until the window bar of the box is
clicked. For example, right clicking on an object in the project window and
selecting, 'Attributes', invokes a dialogue box with a number of options
relative to the object. All options are inactive until the window bar of the
dialogue box is clicked at which point the box becomes live.

Short (default) log output
After the software starts, it shows splashscreen with some activity indicated
inside it. After that activity ceases and splashscreen disappears, the main
window does not appear and the software seems to hang (no CPU usage).
I've compiled wine 3.20 (git rev-parse HEAD :
488432317206bc816432af0dd740e18979e37e58) within pure 32-bit install of ubuntu
14.04 server edition on KVM virtual machine. I've used "./configure
--disable-win16 --prefix=/home/lvd/wine". After a (successfull) compile, I've
copied wine directory to my real machine (64bit install of the same ubuntu
14.04) and after preparations ( cd /home/lvd, export
$WINEPREFIX=/home/lvd/.wine32, export $WINEARCH=win32, wine/bin/winecfg ) run
install:
wine/bin/wine start 'H:\AltiumInstaller.exe' where H: was automatically
configured by winecfg to /mnt/cdrom where .iso was mounted.
then run the software:
wine/bin/wine start 'C:\Program Files\Altium\AD13\DXP.EXE'
and after splashscreen and loading activity the hang happens.
short (default) log, the log made with "WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid
wine/bin/wine start 'C:\Program Files\Altium\AD13\DXP.EXE'
>/tmp/wine_longlog.txt 2>&1" and backtrace made with "winedbg \ bt all" after
the hang are attached.
