Summary: MSYS does not integrate with MinGW install correctly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.8
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jeffz(a)jeffz.name
Installing MSYS after MinGW on windows sets things up so that the existing
MinGW install integrates with MSYS, whereby /mingw from the MSYS shell points
to the MinGW install.
First download:
wget
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mingw/MinGW-5.1.4.exe?modtime=1209244789&b…
run MinGW-5.1.4.exe with all defaults.
Second download:
wget
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mingw/MSYS-1.0.10.exe?modtime=1079444447&b…
run wineconsole cmd (required because Wine doesn't launch a console window like
windows does)
MSYS-1.0.10.exe
Answer the defaults to the prompted questions on the console window before the
installer finishes (it pauses there)
wine cmd /c c:\msys\1.0\msys.bat
Typing 'gcc' in the msys terminal echos "sh: gcc: command not found", whereas
on windows it says gcc.exe: no input files.
On windows within msys, `ls /mingw` lists the contents of C:\mingw, on Wine
/mingw is empty.

Currently, Wine on Linux is strongly dependent on X, and when used with the
desktop environment with new Wayland display server, Wine is forced to run
through XWayland, which so far remains a poor experience.
The whole Linux desktop is now strongly pushing the switch from X to Wayland,
and many major applications are now in the process of enabling this switch.
Is there some plan for such effort in Wine? Is it even feasible? I couldn't
find any bugs opened for it, so I'm opening one here to track this.

Sample program that demonstrates bug (source)
I'm using a dummy scroll (as in
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/oldnewthing/archive/2003/07/31/54601.aspx) to update
the scrollbars in my custom Windows control when necessary. In my test program,
this happens before the window is shown for the first time, and in wine, my
error checking code triggers because the ScrollWindowEx() call fails with
ERROR. This does not happen on real Windows; it instead returns NULLREGION.
The attached program creates several configurations that attempt to reproduce
this issue under different circumstances. On wine, I get
ScrollWindowEx() before ShowWindow(nCmdShow): ERROR
ScrollWindowEx() after ShowWindow(nCmdShow) and ShowWindow(SW_HIDE): ERROR
ScrollWindowEx() after only ShowWindow(nCmdShow): SIMPLEREGION
On Windows XP 32-bit, Windows 7 32-bit, and Windows 7 64-bit, I get
ScrollWindowEx() before ShowWindow(nCmdShow): NULLREGION
ScrollWindowEx() after ShowWindow(nCmdShow) and ShowWindow(SW_HIDE): NULLREGION
ScrollWindowEx() after only ShowWindow(nCmdShow): SIMPLEREGION
I can't find anything pointing to this use of ScrollWindowEx() being wrong... I
also do not know if any other scroll functions are equally affected.
I am running wine-1.7.28 from the Wine PPA on Ubuntu GNOME 14.10.
Thanks.

Wine winhlp32 supports that, but the popups (at least for some HLP files)
appear with scrollbars even when scrollbars are not needed, i.e. when all text
would fit in the popup. The unnecessary scrollbars can obscure much of the text
if the popup is small. If you click one of the scrollbar buttons the scrollbars
disappear.
Open the attached ROMTECH.HLP in Wine winhlp32 and click on various parts to
open popups. Pics show a popup as it initially appears, and after clicking on
one of the scrollbar buttons. (Note that you can only click the links in the

In Winamp's playlist window, the right-click menu should contain a "send to..."
submenu that lets the user send the selected track to the format transcoder or
the ReplayGain analysis tool, but under wine the submenu does not appear. It
did appear in the previous version of either Winamp or wine (I'm not sure) but
did not work - selecting any item from the submenu simply did nothing. There
used to be a workaround for this bug posted in wine's app database, but it got
deleted.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Winamp, making sure that the transcoding tool and/or the ReplayGain
analysis tool are selected.
2. In the playlist window, right-click on any track.
3. The menu should contain a "send to..." submenu, but it does not.

This is a long standing issue that occurs using the Compiz window manager.
Easy enough to trigger.
1. Open table and be seated
2. Change workspace so you can no longer see the table, and wait for the
application to alert you that its your turn.
3. Return to the workspace the table is supposed to be on and you will find it
has disappeared.
The application is definitely still running, and the table window is definitely
still active (you can here the alert sounds and cards being dealt)

but if you play badly and lose, the game over dialog that pops up

In the test_hittest function for the listview test the following test fails for
the Chinese and Japanese versions on the test bot:
/* subitem returned with -1 item too */
x = pos.x + 150;
y = -10;
test_lvm_subitemhittest(hwnd, x, y, -1, 1, LVHT_NOWHERE, FALSE, FALSE, FALSE);
The failures read:

listview.c:3056: Test failed: Expected -1 item, got -2
listview.c:3056: Test failed: Expected flags 0x1, got 0x4
This basically says that the message returned -2 (undocumented ?) and set the
flags to LVHT_ONITEMLABEL.
Is y = -10 relative to the control client area or the parent window? How can
you be on the item label in either case? Should the above values be added as
successes to this test?

Summary: Listbox keyboard input
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Hardware: x86-64
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

A listbox widget in Wine does not react the same way to keyboard input as in
Windows.
In Windows, you can type the first characters of a word and the cursor will
jump to the first item matching *all* the characters you typed. This allows you
to drill down quickly to the item you want.
In Wine, when you start typing it only considers the *last* character you typed
when looking for a match. On listboxes where you have lots of items starting
with the same character, this can make it problematic to drill down to the
correct item.
This may be better explained with a simple example. Suppose you have a listbox
with the following items, sorted alphabetically:
* AMBER
* BLUE
* BROWN
* GREEN
* ORANGE
* RED
* YELLOW
Windows behavior:
* if you type "B", it will drill down to "BLUE"
* if you type "BR", it will drill down to "BROWN"
* if you type "BRO", it will drill down to "BROWN"
Wine behavior:
* if you type "B", it will drill down to "BLUE"
* if you type "BR", it will drill down to "RED"
* if you type "BRO", it will drill down to "ORANGE"

Summary: keyboard seems to be dead after changing to another
field with TAB-key
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED

FileMaker Pro 5
If I change to another form-field using the TAB-key, the keyboard is dead, no
reaction at all. Mouse acts normal, I can use the menus and copy/paste text
anyway.
Clicking out of the window and into again (getting focus again) and the
keyboard is alive again.
There seems to be a pattern depending on the field, some trigger the problem
each time I leave them with TAB, some never do.
After reading a lot of bug reports, I tried "virtual desktop" on/off, "allow
window manager" on/off, no changes at all.
I tried [HKCU\software\Wine\X11 Driver] UseTakeFocus="yes" without changes.
