Game crashes on startup, displaying a dialog box with the message "Fatal
error!"
This seems to be another UE4 game that requires Windows Media Foundation APIs
for media playback. Installing native versions of these libraries allows the
game to start; singleplayer doesn't work even with workarounds.

Screenshot showing the squares
We now have a Hebrew translation of notepad. The goal was to have at least one
translation in so we can see what bugs we currently have with respect to Hebrew
(and Arabic for that matter).
The screenshot shows some squares where it should show Hebrew text.
I have no idea where to look yet. The title bar seems fine but the text in the
dialog isn't.
Some of the other dialogs also shows squares but I guess it boils down to the
same bug.

Output of the configure and make commands
I'm trying to package Wine 6.20 for Slackware 14.2 (Stable).
Glibc version is 2.23.
Gcc version is 5.5.
Both the 32 and 64 bit versions are affected.
No such problem when building release 6.19.
The build process fails rather soon when compiling file
dlls/ntdll/unix/loader.c. From what I understand, the issue is related to the
__WAIT_INT (status) macro defined in header file /usr/include/sys/wait.h (Part
of glibc).
The macro is expanded into:
__WAIT_INT (status): (__extension__ (((union { __typeof(status) ; int __i; }) {
. = (status) }).__i))
but the compiler does not recognize it as a valid declaration and issues a
warning resulting in the error reported in the attached wine_make.log file.
The output from the configure command is included in the second attached file:
wine_configure.log
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Simone

linux 4.19 commit bd14406b78e6daa1ea3c1673bda1ffc9efdeead0
I bisected Linux 4.18 to 4.19 to find this commit which stops BO2 from
launching under any version of wine from 3.12 to 4.0-rc6, attachment below.
For convenience I hand-reverted the file kernel/events/hw_breakpoint.c as
follows :
/**
* modify_user_hw_breakpoint - modify a user-space hardware breakpoint
* @bp: the breakpoint structure to modify
* @attr: new breakpoint attributes
*/
int modify_user_hw_breakpoint(struct perf_event *bp, struct perf_event_attr
*attr)
{
int err;
/*
* modify_user_hw_breakpoint can be invoked with IRQs disabled and
hence it
* will not be possible to raise IPIs that invoke __perf_event_disable.
* So call the function directly after making sure we are targeting the
* current task.
*/
if (irqs_disabled() && bp->ctx && bp->ctx->task == current)
perf_event_disable_local(bp);
else
perf_event_disable(bp);
#if 0
/* new logic : >= kernel 4.19 */
err = modify_user_hw_breakpoint_check(bp, attr, false);
if (!bp->attr.disabled)
perf_event_enable(bp);
return err;
#else
/* old logic : <kernel 4.19 */
if (!attr->disabled) {
err = modify_user_hw_breakpoint_check(bp, attr, false);
if (err)
return err;
perf_event_enable(bp);
bp->attr.disabled=0;
}
return 0;
#endif
}
I examined some wine source code and found many instance of use of
PTRACE_POKUSER. I don't know enough about this function to know if this kernel
commit directly breaks the wine code, or some other fault in wine code is
indirectly triggering the problem. Using "old logic" in the file
hw_breakpoints above enables kernel 4.19 to start BO2 with 4.0-rc6 (and most
likely others).

added a bunch of new (empty) macros. These macros include definitions for __in
and __out. These names are used often for function arguments in libstdc++,
whose
headers now no longer compile under Wine 6.20's wineg++ after including
windows.h. A minimal example of the problem is this:
#include <windows.h>
#include <algorithm>
int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { return 0; }
Compiling the above with `wineg++ --std=c++20 <filename>.cpp` with GCC 11.1 now
results in 977 lines of compiler errors.

regression test showing the bug
Hi,
Normally when the write end of a pipe is closed, the read end should see that
upon further reads. However wine's _popen()/_pclose() do not work that way - a
child's read from stdin blocks after the parent's _pclose().
I've attached a patch to the tests to show the problem. The tests hang, but
should succeed.
I reproduced this on git commit 8b9f1e12841298591387e2b7590191610a37986e
Regards,
Andres
PS: I encountered this because I was trying to fix a bug in the windows port of

When one runs the games Obduction or RiME , which are both based on Unreal
Engine 4, with Wine commit d8be85863fedf6982944d06ebd1ce5904cb3d4e1 or later,
noise is output instead of audio, and an error occurs in F3DAudio.c, line 349,
and the error message "pDspSettings->DstChannelCount == ChannelCount &&
"Invalid channel count, DSP settings and speaker configuration must agree"" is
shown. Screenshots are attached. The game will then exit or eventually crash.
This commit and the previous one makes use of new code to process audio, so the
error seems directly related to that.

astrotoaster crash backtrace
Astrotoaster runs with default settings, but trying to manipulate and convert
images, the attached backtrace is created every time.
Works fine in native windows and windows VMs.
To reproduce, download (free) astrotoaster application:
http://www.astrotoaster.com/download/SetupAstroToaster_205a.msi?attredirect…
put a couple fits files in a folder from a set for image stacking, and
configure the image directory in the application to point to the folder with
the fits files in it.
Click on the buttons labeled "monitor", "refresh" and "stack"
A viewer window will pop up with a dark image that needs adjusting. Click the
color adj button and move the "expand" slider to any value, then click the
"apply E/G" button to reproduce the crash. It may have already crashed before
this.
convert.exe is the module with the crash.

2) Run any application which uses the Win32 color picker, e.g. MS Paint from
Windows XP (Menu -> Colors -> Edit colors) or IrfanView -> F12.
3) Call the color picker
Actual results: colors and boxes are not rendered
Expected results: everything on the screen
Additional info: moving the dialog out of the screen and back in fixes the
issue
This is probably a dupe of bug 6682 but I'm not sure since theming is involved.

Wine terminal output
I'm testing Home Designer Suite 21.3.1.1x64 on 5.3-rc3 with the patch from bug
48371 applied.
After starting home designer and opening a new plan, I am trying to draw my
first wall.
Left mouse button down sets the starting location of the wall, and as I move
the mouse the display is continuously updated with the new wall length. When I
release the left mouse button to set the end location, the wine window stops
being updated, the mouse cursor disappears while the mouse position is inside
the wine window, and my system is otherwise idle. I have to ctrl-C in the
terminal window where I started wine to kill it.
I've attached the terminal output from Wine. At the end of the output I added
some text that appeared after I used ctrl-C to kill wine.
I'll also attach the output that Home Designer logged as it ran.

Bug ID: 51979
Summary: Sending of Midi SysEx Events not working
Product: Wine
Version: 6.20
Hardware: x86-64
OS: Mac OS X
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: reinhold.hoffmann(a)hotmail.com
The sending of midi SysEx events to an external device like a keyboard fails.
SysEx events are very common like all the midi reset events.
Component: dlls\winecoreaudio.drv
File: midi.c
This is related to coreaudio, alsa is OK.´
The issue is that SysEx events are encapsulated by 0xF0, 0xF7. These
encapsulated bytes are stripped before the routine MIDIOut_LongData is called.
In MIDIOut_LongData the following happens:
Warning
"The allegedly system exclusive buffer is not correct. Please report with MIDI
file"
Errors
"Add missing 0xF0 marker at the beginning of system exclusive byte stream"
"Add missing 0xF7 marker at the end of system exclusive byte stream"
But the event is being sent to the external port as if the encapsulated bytes
would exist.
I use a Yamaha keyboard. This macOS driver has been recently upgraded for macOS
Big Sur, Monterey. This driver now fails.
================================
Comparing the same situation for the alsa driver
Component: dlls\winealsa.drv
File: midi.c
The equivalent to MIDIOut_LongData of coreaudio here is modLongData.
In modLongData the encapsulated bytes are added in case they are missing.
I recommend to add the same tolerant step to MIDIOut_LongData as well.
Unfortunately, tracing of a midi file was not possible because both routines
crash when trace is active for dwBufferLength=2 which is a regular case even
for long midi data.
Further, there is a comment in both files "but it seems to be used only for
midi input". This is not the case. LongData are used for midi out, too.

--- Comment #29 from Bamm Gabriana <bammgabriana(a)gmail.com> ---
Interesting. It shouldn't be hard to recreate the logic into a Windows program,
or to create an elf in winelib just to run the script. But doing that will mean
it cannot be made into a separate package, As I understood it, this bug was
closed precisely because they believe such a thing should be an external tool.
If I can just drop files in certain places that automagically causes the script
to run at wineboot, it should be trivial to create a deb or rpm that people can
install separately, if they desire this feature. I also prefer this so I can
continue maintaining the script independent of Wine development.

Summary: Add a test configuration with newer Visual C++ runtime

The recent Radeon drivers (21.3.2+, maybe more) are causing the msvcp140 tests
to fail. It turns out this is because it installs a new version of msvcp140.dll
which behaves differently.
Also Chocolatey shows that there are even newer versions of the Visual C++
runtime libraries which none of our test configurations have.
Furthermore a survey of the current situation shows that some libraries are
essentially not tested. In particular this is the case of msvcp100 which is not
available on any of the TestBot's Windows 10 VMs.

Note that Chocolatey does not seem to know about newer versions for:
* msvcp90.dll : This library typically has side-by-side versions and 'choco
install vcredist2008' does not change the mix of available versions.
* msvcp60.dll : No Chocolatey package seems to provide it. It looks like the
corresponding redistributable package is not available from Microsoft anymore.
The Wine TestBot VMs configuration page [2] has been updated with instructions
for installing the latest versions of these libraries. What remains to be done
is to pick one or more test configurations (probably one Windows 10 and one
earlier Windows version) and to install these libraries.
[1] 'badver' means WineTest.exe reports that there are side-by-side versions of
that library but that the one requested by the test is not available.

iTunes 10.3.1, installed in a clean wineprefix, crashes with a null pointer
read when you do
Help / iTunes Tutorials and click Play.
There's no really useful backtrace.
Setting win7 mode keeps it from crashing, and
it then puts up a generic-looking player with
fast forward, play, a position indicator, etc.,
but nothing happens when you press play. (Pressing
fast-forward puts up a 2x indicator, so the gui isn't dead,
it's the innards that are busted.)

I'm using wine-5.22 on gentoo multilib to play Gothic2 with the GD3D11 renderer

Regression SHA1: db2b266c57b73e1a16785213ce923b749c84400e
Distribution: ---
In Roblox Studio during Play Testing, the cursor turns into a black square,
which makes play testing less convenient to use.
With help from git bisect, the faulty commit should be
db2b266c57b73e1a16785213ce923b749c84400e (user32: Handle monochrome icons in
CreateIcon() and CreateCursor() instead of CreateIconIndirect().)
Steps to reproduce:
0. Register a Roblox account on https://www.roblox.com
1. Install Grapejuice (https://gitlab.com/brinkervii/grapejuice/-/wikis/home)
2. Open Grapejuice GUI (You can do so by running the "grapejuice gui" command)
3. On Launcher tab, press "Sign into Roblox Studio"
4. In the browser tab opened, press "Open Studio"
5. Once Roblox Studio fully opens, press Alt+S to open the settings, and go to
the "Rendering" tab. Then, under the General tab, set "Graphics Mode" to
"OpenGL"
PS1: This is the only renderer that works with vanilla Wine on my system, so I
put this step here to ensure Play Testing will work reliably.
6. Close Roblox Studio, and open it again by pressing "Roblox Studio" in the
Grapejuice GUI
7. From the "New" tab, open the "Baseplate" template by clicking on it.
PS2: It is normal that some GUI elements are flashing, this is a known bug with
the OpenGL renderer which shouldn't affect the reproduction of this regression.
8. Once the game loads, choose "Test" from the top bar, and press "Play" on the
left.
9. Once Play Testing starts, observe the cursor.
Expected behavior:
The cursor looks like normal white cursors.
Actual behavior:
The cursor is a black square, which makes it harder to aim the cursor.

Collins Dictionary
I noticed a regression a few months ago in a 16-bit application I regularly
run. It started when the Windows XP-style UI themes started being applied.
In the screenshot you can see the Collins English Dictionary application as it
currently runs, with a "Plastik"-style UXTHEME drawing the applications buttons
(ignore the buttons being cut-off by the windows size. That problem already
occured before the UXTHEME breakage).
The buttons are selected, but not activated do not work when clicked. The only
way to use the buttons is to click on them to highlight/select them and then
press the Enter key. This is also true of some, but not all of the buttons in
modal dialogs.
The mostly-black background of the definition display is also a new bug which
occurred simultaneously to moment UXTHEMEs became applicable to 16-bit apps. It
seems like the definitions, when drawn to the screen, do not blank out what
preceeded them, so smaller definitions overlap the former larger ones.
The software can be easily downloaded here for testing:

Hello,
using wine-staging 6.2 as reference. Since wine-staging version 6.9 i can start
BF 1, BF 4 and BF V again. But i notice a big FPS drop while playing online. I
tested all versions from version 6.9 to 6.14 (except 6.13, can login in origin
client at all) and all versions have the same drops when playing online.
In the Menu screens or Lobby there is no problem at all. Also the fps drops
seems not so big while playing in single player modes.
All versions tested with same OS Version kernel versions and hardware settings
in 2K.
Using wine-staging version 6.2 frame rates are in BF 1 between 100 and 144 fps.
Using any newer version of staging the fps drops to the range between 24 and 40
fps. In online mode this is unplayable.
Reinstalling version 6.2 of wine-staging solve the fps drops. I can't test with
normal wine because i can't start the origin client at all. Crash to desk. Not
tested normal wine version 6.14 but i think it does not let me start the origin
client like the other versions.
Maybe it was not really a graphic problem here. For me it has to do with
massive online play. Receiving and transmitting network messages my be here the
root of the problem. Have to look to changes in network changes starting from
version 6.3. Maybe anyone has more information regarding this assumption.
Thank for your help.
All the Best...
