Bug ID: 35815
Summary: Allow remapping of joystick buttons
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.14
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dinput
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: achurch+wine(a)achurch.org
Some Windows games only accept a limited number of joystick button inputs,
presumably based on the set of joystick devices against which the game was
tested. If the native driver for a device returns different button numbers
than the Windows driver, this can prevent some common controller devices from
being used with such games. For example, the PlayStation 3 controller reports
its face buttons as button numbers 12-15, but apparently the commonly used
Windows driver "MotioninJoy" remaps these to lower button numbers; due to that,
some games (such as Astebreed: http://edelweiss.skr.jp/works/astebreed/) only
accept up to 12 button inputs, preventing PS3 controllers from working
properly.
The attached patch (against Wine 1.7.14) adds a "ButtonMap" configuration value
to the DirectInput registry key, allowing the first 16 joystick button inputs
reported by Wine to be remapped to arbitrary native joystick buttons. The
format of the value is a comma-separated list of numbers, with the first number
giving the (zero-based) physical button index for DirectInput button 0, the
second number giving the physical button index for DirectInput button 1, and so
on for up to 16 buttons.

Hi! I'm trying to fix my debmirror. If I want to support Ubuntu focal,
I need to add "all" to the architectures in order to mirror
https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/binary-all/ .
But if I do so, bionic and xenial fail becuase they don't have a
main/binary-all directory.
Could you please create those and put a dummy placeholder file in?

Proposed fix
Recent wine versions abort on startup if the config directory isn't owned by
the user running wine.
This breaks setups where several users share a common wine prefix (e.g. to make
applications that make heavy use of the registry available to several users
without installing them several times) and they have the right access to the
configs through group permissions.
Unless I'm overlooking a better way to do this, it would make more sense to
check proper permissions than to check ownership. I'm attaching a patch that
does that.

I noticed the problem when trying to start a multiplayer game. Logging in to

was not accepted in the input field.
It turned out that several other keys are not recognized by the game, e.g.:
~,[]/;'\=-+.
By default '~' is used to bring up the chat window.
The issue can be tested by creating a new profile in the game: the input field,
containing the name, should accept all of the above mentioned characters but
they're not recognized (only the letters and numbers work and some of the
special characters by using <Shift>: @!$%).
Installing native dinput8.dll (via winetricks) doesn't help in Majesty 2.

Summary: relative paths in WINEDLLPATH (as created from $0) no
longer work in wine-5.11+
Product: Wine
Version: 6.0
Hardware: x86-64
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: loader
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: PuetzKevinA(a)JohnDeere.com
Distribution: ---
Winegcc's app_loader_template deriveds $appdir from $0,
and then adds this directory into WINEDLLPATH:
https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blob/wine-6.0:/tools/winegcc/winegcc…
appdir=`dirname \"$0\"`
WINEDLLPATH=\"$appdir:$WINEDLLPATH\"
Presumably the intent here is to match LOAD_LIBRARY_SEARCH_APPLICATION_DIR;
windows also searches for dlls immediately beside the main executable.
However, it is not unusual in interactive use for $0 to be a relative path,
e.g. if an executable is invoked as ./hello.exe, and dirname preserves this.
This results in WINEDLLPATH containing relative-path entries; this seems
a bit inadvisable, but it worked through wine-5.10. Since then it does not.
0024:err:module:import_dll Loading library test_shared.dll (which is needed
by L"Z:\\home\\test\\\bin\\test_executable_shared.exe") failed (error
c000003b).
Bisecting first pointed at df5e4764870e8ad1d8b206cb3475a073bc034e48, but
this is just https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49545; after the unix
cwd is lost, a relative-path entry no longer resolves to the right place.
cherry-picking that fix from cdaa72c728df3c80499c8a4f59e731f353347db0
restores functionality, but then it breaks again (for the reason that
is actually breaking it in 6.0) at 9ec262ebcc7f14d7373841d4ca082b855ed8090f
https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blobdiff/a2e77268f2007f2819c2e3e8bd7…
Previously ntdll/unix/loader.c:open_builtin_file used unix_to_nt_file_name,
which looks like it would have just flipped the slashes to translate a
a relative unix path to a relative NT path, which would then use NT's cwd
(hence susceptibility to https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49545),
But now it uses open_unix_file, which calls SERVER_START_REQ( create_file ),
which just refuses relative paths STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_SYNTAX_BAD
https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blob/wine-6.0:/server/file.c#l214
This is an error other than STATUS_OBJECT_{PATH,NAME}_NOT_FOUND, so it stops
https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blob/wine-6.0:/dlls/ntdll/unix/loade…
I'm not sure what the best fix here really is... relative paths in WINEDLLPATH
seem like a pretty bad idea (since the cwd may change as the process runs,
environment variables leak down into child processe, etc), but the launcher
script's been like this for a long time.

Machine/Resource/Indy3D.exe" and that the "Load Game" dialog is actually being
created from Indy3D.exe rather than Jones3D.exe, but launching Indy3D.exe
directly doesn't work.
- I have been able to reproduce the same issue in PlayOnMac w/ Wine 4.12.1
(19.0.0-cx) x86on64), and PlayOnLinux w/ Wine 4.12.1, 5.0, and 6.5 as well.

Both the NVDA application and its setup menu hang due to
CoEnableCallCancellation being unimplemented, and likely hangs on shut down due
to CoDisableCallCancellation being unimplemented. Removing these function calls
in NVDA causes the program to boot with no visible issues.

Test program to print events
In order for NVDA and other assistive technologies to work they need to be able
to track focus. This is done using the WinEvent hook EVENT_OBJECT_FOCUS. The
hook itself fires whenever focus is changed and contains a reference to the
window and accessibility child. Currently this is unimplemented.

This is more of a feature request, I hope I completed the form correctly. I
was wondering if it would be possible to either add the screen reader NVDA in
to a default installation of Wine, or make it so that NVDA can be installed in
to Wine. NVDA would give blind Linux users access to applications in Wine. It
does not use video hooks, so it is probably the best choice for a Wine screen
reader. It is open source and can be found at:
http://www.nvda-project.org/
The installer talks, so if it could be made to work, installing it with out
sighted assistance would be no problem.
Thanks

I want to report a strange issue when i try to run a game that require external
dlls. It seems that wine doesnt follow windows naming convention. For example
when some game (usually unreal engine game or cry engine) tries to load
"Library.dll" and it is located on ntfs disk with name: "library.dll" wine
doesnt load library because of first lowercase letter. In summary windows games
doesnt care about letter case. Tested only on wine staging.

trace log
Since wine (vanilla or staging) 6.2, the Riot Client Launcher fails when
updating itself. This worked fine with wine 6.1 (vanilla and staging)
This wasn't much of a problem since LoL players used a lutris versions based on
wine 5.x. Starting with the last League Of Legends Client update, the CEF
upgrade requires a patched wine 6.15, so users will begin getting this error on
the next Launcher update.
The launcher throws the following error when starting the update process:
```
Update failed: Failed getting path to current executable: File path could not
be found in a mapped drive: \??\c:\Riot Games\Riot
Client\RiotClientServices.exe
```
I bisected the problem to commit bd0a3c1a59db9e75500db6df0f3598c981abf44e. For
some reason the launcher worked with the stub implementation of
GetMappedFileNameA/W, but not with a "real" one. I can confirm that reverting
the commit on 6.15 makes the update work.
Attached is a trace log of the execution (from wine staging 6.15, with the most
frequent calls removed). The interesting part should start in line 546, when
the debug message says that it will start the update, and end in line 1705,
when the update process ends. In line 1361 there is a call to
GetMappedFileNameW, which should be where the error begins.

Wine - wine-7.0-rc2 (Staging)

The problem started after a dnf update command that brought wine to version
6.21-staging. Tried downgrading wine as far as I could but the problem
persists. Created new wine prefix (32-bit) and no luck.
I am about at the limit of my skill here. This is the only app I use with wine
so I do not have a lot of experience with it.
The program can be downloaded here.

The software is proprietary and subscription-based, but it crashes well before
the authentication screen is presented.
My personal feeling is that I am missing a library but I have no idea how to
check that.

d3d11:d3d11 crashes on the cw-gtx560 machine which has an NVidia graphics card.
The crash happens from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 2009 so it seems to be related
to the graphics driver rather than to the Windows version.
https://test.winehq.org/data/patterns.html#d3d11:d3d11
The crash shows no backtrace but I added traces and found that the crash
happens on the final release in test_device_context_state():
refcount = ID3D11Device1_Release(device);
Adding a trace on the previous line shows that the refcount before that call is
1. So it's not a case of a one-too-many release calls.
Without test_device_context_state() d3d11:d3d11 does not crash. According to a
bisect the commit causing this crash is:

ConEmu shows "ConEmuC64.exe: PID=132: GetConsoleProcessList failed, code=0" at

Returning zero is an error according to documentation, "because every console
has at least one process associated with it".
Then ConEmu starts successfully, so this is a minor issue.

AFxW window after launching
AFxW[1], aka あふw in Japanese, is an ultra-low functionality two-pane file
manager.
After launching AFXW.EXE, it should show file lists in panes as seen in [2].
But, it doesn't on Wine.
@momota1999, a reporter on Twitter, tweeted list items would be shown by moving
the cursor (with up/down arrow keys) and the issue didn't occur on Wine 4.0
(Debian 4.0-2). I can confirm both of them with AFxW v1.65.
Steps to reproduce:
1. unzip afxw32_165.zip
2. LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 wine AFXW.EXE
Expected result:
File list panes are updated on start-up without any key inputs. You can see
file names, their size and time stamps in the panes.
Actual result:
File list panes aren't updated on start-up. You can't see anything in the
panes.

Crash on authentication
As of version 1917874 of the EVE Online launcher, the application crashes when
trying to log in. According to the developers, they moved to a new credential
management solution (involving https://github.com/frankosterfeld/qtkeychain and
the Windows Credential Store), and they said that Wine currently doesn't
implement the needed syscalls for this to function.
I've attached a stacktrace which looks like it crashes somewhere in cryptopp,
but I haven't been able to figure out much by debugging (winedbg doesn't see
any of those function addresses as valid, and I haven't been able to map them
to functions in a disassembler). Let me know if I can provide any more
information that would be helpful.

Bad behavior
The issue affects SourceInsight 4 in particular. SourceInsight has its own
built-in theme functionality which doesn't get along well with any non-standard
Wine theme.
When a non-standard Wine theme is selected, then the main toolbar in SI4
ignores its app theme and always gets drawn with the selected Wine theme.
Selecting the default Wine theme fixes the issue - the toolbar is drawn
according to the app theme. On Windows it's ok no matter which UI theme is set.
Screenshot of the issue is attached.
The root cause of the issue is that
UXTHEME_broadcast_msg/UXTHEME_broadcast_msg_enumchild in dlls/uxtheme/system.c
both use a PostMessage() call to send WM_THEMECHANGED to affected window(s).
In SI4 the main toolbar is implemented as a combination of a custom container
window (si_Rebar class) and a standard win32 Rebar control (RebarWindow32
class).
Immediately after creating the RebarWindow32 window, SI4 does
SetWindowTheme(hwndRebar, L" ", L" ") for it.
According to MSDN
(https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/uxtheme/nf-uxtheme-setwi…)
> The theme manager retains the pszSubAppName and the pszSubIdList associations through the lifetime of the window, even if visual styles subsequently change. The window is sent a WM_THEMECHANGED message at the end of a SetWindowTheme call, so that the new visual style can be found and applied.
>
> When pszSubAppName and pszSubIdList are NULL, the theme manager removes the previously applied associations. You can prevent visual styles from being applied to a specified window by specifying an empty string, (L" "), which does not match any section entries.
- this L" ", L" " stuff means that SI4 DOES NOT want for system visual styles
being applied to its RebarWindow32 control. However, according to WINEDEBUG
logs they were applied to all bg erase, painting etc operations no matter the
SetWindowTheme(, L" ", L" ") call.
Turns out that RebarWindow32' WndProc receives WM_THEMECHANGED too late, after
all stuff including drawing already happened with the system-wide theme being
applied. The reason why it was received so late is simple - SetWindowTheme
implementation in wine uses PostMessage() instead of SendMessage(). Replacing
it with a SendMessage() call allows to fix the bug.
I've checked what Windows actually does in SetWindowTheme and found out that it
always uses SendMessage to send WM_THEMECHANGED (for any HWND).
So. suggested fix:

oleaut32:varformat fails in Wine when the currency sign has two characters or
more:
https://test.winehq.org/data/patterns.html#oleaut32:varformat
varformat.c:641: str=L"\062f.\0645.\200f 0.000"
varformat.c:643: Test failed: Unexpected hr 0x80020005.
In Morocco the currency sign has 5 characters. This is simply not supported by
VarParseNumFromStr().
But even the currency sign is only two characters VarParseNumFromStr() fails
because it advances a pointer by one character only. For instance with Polish:
varformat.c:641: str=L"0,000 z\0142"
varformat.c:643: Test failed: Unexpected hr 0x80020005.
Note that the w10pro64 TestBot Windows VMs have an incorrect UserDefaultLCID so
that these issues are not actually tested (see bug 51451). The w7u VMs are more
correct in this regard but only test simple European cases (€).

test case solution demonstrating the error
On wine-6.12-162-gd10887b8f56
Full solution is in the attachment, but Wine is improperly formatting floats
when using printf "%g" or iostreams. A very simple example is:
std::cout << 9.999999999999999e-5 << std::endl;
It should print "0.0001". It does print "0".
Of course, this affects much larger and more complicated programs, too.
Tested on Ubuntu 20.04, although I don't think it matters.

Registry for adding '宋体' font replacement.
This looks like a regression of 93ef83e903354e5d28a9a0b14dd2ff83504f2b0f.
Step to reproduce:
1. `export LANG=zh_CN.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=zh_CN.UTF-8 LC_ALL=zh_CN.UTF-8`
2. `winetricks -q fakechinese arial` for installing Chinese font and work
around a CEF issue.
3. Add this registry:
```
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Fonts\Replacements]
"宋体"="Source Han Sans SC"
```
4. `wine cloudmusicsetup2.9.1.199099.exe` for installing the application.
5. `cd .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Netease/CloudMusic` and `wine
cloudmusic.exe` for running the application.
Then it will crash when startup.
