It should say 'None' (or the local equivalent) initially. (The caret is positioned properly, though.) 'winetricks comctl32' works around the problem. Wine's control works fine in a standalone demo. The problem exists in many versions of the app, including the 7.12 Student Version downloadable from various sites as ledit.zip, 2972402 bytes, sha1sum f1a5825e63cee03f2cfb912cfa8d47c5a22aa684 That version requires 'winetricks mfc42' to start, and warns about wanting 256 color mode. I tried to nail down the problem by vastly expanding RelayExclude to the 500 topmost function calls, an excerpt of the resulting log is also attached. Here is how I invoke winscp under wine: WINEDEBUG=fixme-all wine "c:/program files/winscp/winscp" Background: WinSCP is a very nice GUI front end for Subversion (svn). You can read about it and download it here: http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/ TortoiseSVN should not be run across a network when the Icon Overlays feature is enabled. http://tortoisesvn.net/node/138 http://tortoisesvn.net/node/267 However, TortoiseSVN's icon overlay feature is one of the program's major assets. I want to use Cygwin's xterm to connect to the samba server that holds the svn checkout directory and use Wine to run TortoiseSVN locally on that server. The user would be presented with a nice visual representation of the state of their checked out Subversion project, and performance would be good. On Windows, TortoiseSVN can display its icons in any file chooser window, and in Windows Explorer. I have also found that WinSCP's explorer view will show icons for the local machine. I would prefer not to have to run WinSCP in order to view TortoiseSVN icons. Perhaps a tiny Win32 program that merely shows a file dialog would be sufficient to run in an xterm, if Wine would support whatever system calls TortoiseSVN makes. For me, and many other programmers and IT personnel who work in a mixed Windows/Linux environment, Wine would be much more useful if there was a way to run it under Wine. It relies on layered windows and DwmExtendFrameIntoClientArea to handle the transparent display. Currently, the main UI elements show, but the game (or any other application) does not show through. This seems to be because DwmExtendFrameIntoClientArea is only a stub. I'm not sure if that's the only reason it's not transparent, but it's at least one of the reasons. The program itself uses the unity3d engine along with some native dll calls to the relevant user32 apis to handle the transparency. I was able to get a copy of the relevant code (but not the whole application), of which I will attach. Since I can't get all of the code, I've been using an unity sample application to try to figure out some parts myself (the relevant code is here https://github.com/pheonise/Unity3D-Desktop-Overlay/blob/master/Assets/Scri…). This unity3d application works as expected on windows, but is not transparent via wine (as expected). When i comment the call to DwmExtendFrameIntoClientArea, then it its also no longer transparent on windows as well. It seems that if the sample application works, then I can make sure the dev applies to the same technique to the overlay application. I can get around this problem by using a symlink but that approach isn't ideal - in the case I tried I also had to create a symlink for another directory located in the directory where the exe was located. I've enclosed a patch that allows the user to specify WINEWMCLASS in his environment and have wine use that value as an alternative to the default behaviour. Let me know what you think. Easy enough to trigger. 1. Open table and be seated 2. Change workspace so you can no longer see the table, and wait for the application to alert you that its your turn. 3. Return to the workspace the table is supposed to be on and you will find it has disappeared. The application is definitely still running, and the table window is definitely still active (you can here the alert sounds and cards being dealt) When I came across this issue initially, it didn't occur when using metacity as a window manager. The game plays tolerably in Linux (once you figure out to click the 'X' icon on the left bar to get fullscreenish mode)... but if you play badly and lose, the game over dialog that pops up is not drawn properly. I'll attach a saved game; to reproduce the problem, load the saved game (File / Load), then click on the two "3" tiles. In Windows, you can type the first characters of a word and the cursor will jump to the first item matching *all* the characters you typed. This allows you to drill down quickly to the item you want. In Wine, when you start typing it only considers the *last* character you typed when looking for a match. On listboxes where you have lots of items starting with the same character, this can make it problematic to drill down to the correct item. This may be better explained with a simple example. There seems to be a pattern depending on the field, some trigger the problem each time I leave them with TAB, some never do. After reading a lot of bug reports, I tried "virtual desktop" on/off, "allow window manager" on/off, no changes at all. I tried [HKCU\software\Wine\X11 Driver] UseTakeFocus="yes" without changes. Some applications start with the wrong decoration. It's a visual-only issue, as the application starts with focus and works nicely. But its non-client area starts with the decoration of inactive applications (greyed out). I wrote some small clients to debug this, and the simple program attached reproduces the issue. TLDR: it is a program that activates a window of a non-foreground thread and then tries to show it. --- # What I think is going on When we call SetActiveWindow(hwnd), hwnd does not become the foreground window, as the application thread is not the foreground thread yet (at this point the desktop window is the foreground window). SetActiveWindow() activates the non-client area only if the window is the foreground window, so we have activated the window but didn't activate its non-client area (which is correct AFAIU). Next we call ShowWindow(hwnd), and now the thread that owns hwnd should become foreground and SetActiveWindow(hwnd) is called. But as hwnd is already active it does nothing and returns, so the non-client area is draw as inactive. --- # Possible fix In order to fix this, we could change SetActiveWindow() behavior to the following: if (hwnd == current active window) if (hwnd == NtUserGetForegroundWindow() && non-client area of hwnd not active) activate non-client area of hwnd bail out I wrote a test for this, and I could see that this fix didn't break any other tests. I've decided to post here in order to know if the fix seems reasonable to you. Also, I had a question while debugging this and still couldn't figure out. I thought that focus was a global property related to the foreground window. But it seems that when a window is set to active the function to change the focus to it may also be called (even when the window does not belong to the foreground thread). Sengoku Rance uses the Alisesoft System4.0 Ver1.3 engine. I installed it with a clean wine prefix,googled like hell for help and tested it on two laptops each with the newest wine version on Arch: 1.6ghz dual core with ati hd 6320 (with the ati driver from git) 2.5 ghz dual core with geforce 9300gs (with nouveau from git) This is an old game using directx 6. Running the game itself from the console gives no output whatsoever. This year it apparently worked as usual, with one frustrating exception: when trying to transfer the entire documetation to the finance office at the end the application freezes and does noting any more. Unfortunately no error shows in the logs when starting wine with a corresponding debug option (WINEDEBUG=+relay, I hope this is ok ...). I have 32 GByte of logging code what is meaningless to upload - but no "real" error message inside. "top" shows 100% CPU - load by the wine process stman.exe.
