Steam default terminal output wine 8.9
Hello,
This started after a Steam update sometimes ago I don't remember.
> [0617/144308.788:INFO:CONSOLE(1)] "ResizeObserver loop limit exceeded", source: https://steamloopback.host/index.html?IN_CLIENT=true&LOCAL_HOSTNAME=piezo1&… (1)
Searching the quoted string on the web shows that it's related to Chrome [1],
thus Chrome Embedded Framework too (libCEF).
The constant flow of messages fills the HD with several MB after a few hours.
It may be an application bug, but I can't compare to Windows because there is
no output at all when running steam from the Windows command prompt.
Regards.

Starting Steam and going to the menu bar -> Steam and moving the mouse cursor
over the entry "Check for Steam Client Updates..." and then stopping the mouse
results that the mouse cursor is showing the I symbol (the cursor symbol that
for example also appears if moving the mouse cursor over a text area). Moving
the mouse shows the normal mouse cursor again but stopping the mouse on the
entry again shows the I symbol again. A workaround seems to be to close the
menu and reopening it.

It loads correctly with the GL renderer.

Main screen
The graphics in Kane's Wrath (at least on my setup) are pretty terrible. See
attached screenshot.
I tried:
d3dx9_29: GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY error
d3dcompiler_47: Doesn't help, but now the EA logo flickers.
d3dxof: As above.
d3dxof & d3dcompiler_47: No flicker, but no improvement.
All three: GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY
orm=backbuffer: No change
csmt=off: No change, logo flickering
Changing shader_backend made no difference.
renderer=vulkan Bug 54436
At this point I threw the whole of d3dx9 at it but I keep getting
GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY.
There should be no memory issues (it works in Windows 10, but better in Windows
7).
FUN FACT: Running with WINEDEBUG=fixme-d3d changes the pink bits to black bits.
Workaround unknown.

Wine 9.8 console log
The Command & Conquer 3 Demo (and Kane's Wrath full game) exits silently if
alt-tabbing out of the game, then back in.
Using a virtual desktop (of any size) stops this occurring. The game itself
"escapes" the virtual desktop and runs in full screen, but this turns out to be
a good thing.
My process:
1. Install demo (used WINEARCH=win32 but that's not necessary).
2. Set resolution to 1920x1200.
3. Start a skirmish.
4. Alt-tab out.
5. Alt-tab back in.
011c:fixme:faultrep:ReportFault 0031E800 0x0 stub
Same with 720p and 1080p. I haven't tried other resolutions as my setup cannot
seem to handle them.

To reproduce, click view -> tiles. Nothing happens, it just looks the same as
the default icon view. This looks pretty suspicious:
fixme:listview:LISTVIEW_SetView View LV_VIEW_TILE unimplemented
I can't test with the native comctl32, though (it crashes the program on
startup).

Under Windows (I've tested Win10/11) TB_GETMAXSIZE always returns size for
single row of buttons regardless of wrapped it or not. WINE calculates size for
current wrapping. For example: under Win toolbar with initial size (0,0) and 2
buttons (20,20) TB_GETMAXSIZE always returns(40,20), WINE returns (20,40) - 2
rows wrapping.
