[1] And tried running on this build the wine conformance tests. One place where ASan gets triggered is in mono\mono\utils\mono-path.c [2]: 90 if (dest != lastpos) strcpy (dest, lastpos); ERROR: AddressSanitizer: strcpy-param-overlap A few lines above (line 74) there is the possibility of the strings overlapping mentioned and a memmove used. Attached file contains the full output of one ASan event. Would it be valuable to replace the `strcpy (dest, lastpos);` by a `memmove (dest, lastpos, strlen(lastpos) + 1)`? (Install in win7 mode and run with the patch linked in bug 57407) Steps to reproduce - Download and extract the ISO (you only need the "en" and "neutral" folders) - Enter the "en" folder and run the setup, install only Windows Movie Maker and Photo Gallery - Run MovieMaker.exe (.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Windows Live/Photo Gallery You should now be showing the "Microsoft Service Agreement". It's hard to click accept, since the button is invisible. If you click around the bottom right you dismiss/confirm the dialog though. Many users around the world seem to experience an issue where Battle.net stops at ~ 400 MB downloaded and gives an internal error message: https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/blzbntagt00000840-something-went-wr… On proper Windows, there is no such error with the current update. Moreover, also some older versions of Proton seem to not have this issue, so it looks like there is something in Wine that's causing this. The plugin uses hidapi to send and receive feature reports from the device. When getting feature reports, hidapi uses DeviceIoControl with IOCTL_HID_GET_FEATURE and GetOverlappedResult to get the feature report from the specified device. This ioctl takes an int pointer which will contain the length of the data returned from the device when finished. The hidapi source code indicates that when numbered reports aren't used, the int pointer will only count the data returned from the device, sans the report number byte. hidapi adds 1 to this pointer if this is the case. The device in question does not have numbered feature reports, so this is always the case. This means that when the plugin code is run under wine, the int pointer is off-by-one. It reports that 65 bytes were returned, even though the buffer passed to the ioctl is 64 bytes and contains 64 bytes of data. Therefore, the plugin code does not read the input of the device as expected, since it checks this value and errors. If the plugin is patched to subtract 1 from the length variable before checking, the plugin works as expected.
