bug is present in all versions of wine 1.1.14 through 1.9.3
MouseOver a hyperlink (cross-reference, commentary, etc.) displays a popup up
with the content of whatever is linked. Instruction at bottom of popup says:
Press SHIFT key and move mouse over popup to keep visible. Works properly the
first time only. The only way to keep subsequent popups visible is to press
SHIFT before MouseOver.
To reproduce:
1. MouseOver a hyperlink. Popup displays with standard background until the
mouse is moved off the link, then it disappears.
2. MouseOver a hyperlink, press SHIFT and move the mouse over the popup. Popup
displays with blue gradient background until the mouse is moved off the popup.
3. MouseOver a hyperlink. Popup flashes with blue gradient background and
disappears unless it has a vertical scrollbar. If it has a scrollbar, the popup
displays and functions as if SHIFT had been pressed.
Expected behavior:
1. MouseOver a hyperlink. Popup displays with standard background until the
mouse is moved off the link, then it disappears.
2. MouseOver a hyperlink, press SHIFT and move the mouse over the popup. Popup
displays with blue gradient background until the mouse is moved off the popup.
3. MouseOver a hyperlink. Popup displays with standard background until the
mouse is moved off the link, then it disappears.

You can see the interface in this game, but you cannot see the city you are
building. If you happen to hit a building in the darkness, you can see a small
white outline but nothing more than that.
In some cases when you turn the camera there are green stripes that slowly
vanish like when you take a photo in the night with a long exposure.

Video of issue with Wine 9.9
The mouse pointer while trying to play Amazing Adventures Around The World (CD
version) flashes all over the screen. The game cannot be played.
I tried Wine 9.0 and the result is the same. I also tried Wine 8.0.1 but there
is an unimplemented function. I am guessing that this is not a regression.
Work around is to use an emulated desktop. This work around also fixed an issue
where nothing is drawn when disabling full screen mode within the game.
Note that the "download version" cannot be tested because the servers are long
gone.

Output from console
Once game is started 7k2 don't repaint screen. It only repaint screen on mouse
position(small rectangle - possible with size of cursor size).
In menu screen was repainted normally.
I submited many years ago path for it, but it wasn't applied. I submited it to
wine-hackers mailing list. The response was: Microsoft never released dx6 for
Windows - it was only version for Sega Dreamcast.
In these moment menu don't show - there was only displayed error message "Wine
cann't attach flipping surface". The error don't appears now, the menu is
correctly draw, but no screen in game is repainted.
But this is another error. Now only screen don't repaint. As I remeber, this is
possible bug with locks.

In our Software TeamViewer, a Richedit control is used to display chat
messages.
The nick names are colored green or blue, the text should remain black.
This works in general...
But if one side sends several chat messages in row, the nick name is omitted
(by TeamViewer).
And then, an empty selection (where the nickname would be) is formated green or
blue.
It seems, that if this happens the second time, something is screwed up and the
color becomes the default color...
Of course TeamViewer could just NOT format the empty selection with
EM_SETCHARFORMAT, (and this will be done in an upcoming release), but still
this is a wine bug, I think.
To reproduce, start a remote support session in TeamViewer from your Linux-box
to a different TeamViewer, then click on Audio/Video/Chat and type three or
more messages.

The dump created
I am trying to run this software to run on my Linux destro (Ubuntu 12.04). It's
called WordFlood 2.0. Not a popular software but quintessential for me.
Anyways installed this software with Wine and installation went without any
problem. But when I launch the application I get an error.

ImageList_DrawIndirect does not draw overlay icons in three cases where the
function is taking a shortcut with "goto end;".
This was tested with ReactOS\base\applications\mscutils\devmgmt_new on ReactOS
which is using comctl32 from wine.
Test results:
in 32bit color no overlay icons are not shown at all.
if (!bMask && (has_alpha || (fState & ILS_ALPHA)))
...
if (bIsTransparent)
bResult = alpha_blend_image ...
goto end;
in 16bit Color mode the overlay icons are drawn, but only the part on which the
underlying icon is not transparent (wrong ROP code?)
I don't think this application will work on wine because it relies on setupapi
code which wine will probably does not have.

Winecfg dropdown box
Opening a dropdown list box and then moving the frame around, the pop-up list
view stays open at the same place, see attach screen shot.
This is not same as Windows; when frame is moved, drop down closes itself.

Hack for RegLoadAppKey
After https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47626 just out of curiosity I
tried running Visual Studio: winetricks corefonts dotnet472 msxml6 and applied
the attached patch/hack.
Result: splash screen is shown and then welcome screen is displayed. But after
clicking "Not now, maybe later" it halts with:

Description: The application requested process termination through
System.Environment.FailFast(string message).
Message: Failed to schedule time on the UI thread. A continuation would never
execute.
It crashes much earlier without the patch/hack as it cannot bind binary
registry file and read/create registry keys.

As the title says, In FL Studio, many 3rd party vsts have flashing GUIs that
make them unusable and possibly hazardous to a select amount of people with
photosensitive epilepsy.
This only happens in FL Studio, likely due to how it handles plugin windows. In
other DAWs that let the window manager handle the plugin windows this does not
happen.
Side notes:
1. Most of the plugins with this issues are based on the JUCE framework
2. Whenever there is an option akin to "Disable OpenGL rendering" in the plugin
settings, turning it on will usually fix the flashing, but it is almost never
available.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Set the wineprefix to Windows 7, to avoid bug 57247
2. Download and install FL Studio 2024 Trial -

3. Download and install one of the plugins with this problem (put .vst3 file
into C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3) -

When running under XWayland Wine is using the same cursor as the rest of the
system. But when when using the new experimental Wayland driver, Wine is using
a different cursor than the rest of the system (see screenshots).
Wine should implement the cursor shape protocol
(https://wayland.app/protocols/cursor-shape-v1) to fix this issue.

The Wine wiki FAQ, under the section "Should I run Wine as root?", says that
Windows programs runs as admin, while the Wine 10.0 release notes say that
processes run as a normal user by default.

Happens only with the default (d3d11) renderer in fullscreen mode.
The UseTakeFocus option is set to 'N' in the registry (HKCU\Software\Wine\X11
Driver\UseTakeFocus). Since this option is turned on by default in Wine,
normally it doesn't cause the aforementioned issue. Although, it would be a
problem for Proton, where UseTakeFocus is tuned off by default
(https://github.com/ValveSoftware/wine/commit/d30ce49ed8b40b9c29b5cc374987ca…),
as it helps some games launch properly.
I use it to run Forza Horizon 5, etc., (Wine-Staging + patches + Steam).
I didn't notice this right away, as I use borderless in BeamNG, which works
properly with UseTakeFocus=false.

3. At top right is a list of instruments that begins with "[2A03] 00 -".
Double-click the "00 -" to open the instrument editor.
4. The "Instrument editor" floating window appears. It has two panes, with tabs
"2A03 settings" and "DPCM samples".
Behavior on Windows and Wine 9.x:
To the left side is an "Instrument settings" group containing a list of effects
"Volume, Arpeggio, Pitch, Hi-pitch, Duty / Noise", button "Select next empty
slot", and a combo box labeled "Sequence #". To the right is a "Sequence
editor" group with a graph, "Size: [-] 0 [+]" and a text input to enter a
volume sequence as numbers. At bottom is a piano keyboard.
Behavior on Wine 10.0-rc5:
Everything in pane "2A03 settings" other than the graph and the piano keyboard
is blank. Switching to pane "DPCM samples" and back to pane "2A03 settings"
reveals the hidden controls.

The textboxes in irfanviews about dialog overlap the image.
The issue is somehow related to Bug 41639.
If my lib32-freetype2 is up to date with version 2.7, the font is ugly, but it
renders fine. If downgraded, the font is fine, but the placement is wrong.
I can submit a testcase for that, but which font can I rely on? Wine doesn't
have all fonts after all. Tahoma maybe?

simple app that can be used to reproduce the problem
It's a regression caused by 3863b243fe5ef4e223a809e93a85e858952dd754 commit.
Affected application (32-bit) runs on low end machine and creates 128 cores.
Prior to this change it was using ~34MB of memory, in wine 10.0 it uses ~152MB
(every thread uses ~1MB for stack). I've also confirmed that application memory
usage is small on Windows 10.
According to MSDN stack should not use physical memory until it's referenced.

I already reported a bug about Crossfire EU (you can find it here
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45920), but now it merged with
Crossfire NA and the new link for download is

The .exe file is different than before, but it doesn't install yet; I don't
know if the problem is the same or not. I attached my console output. You can
reproduce the bug just by downloading the file and trying to install.
I kept my terminal open for more than 3 hours beacuse the process is "running"
and if I close the terminal it says that a process is still running and closing
the terminal will kill it. Therefore I don't know if my console output is
complete or not. If I can help in some way, just tell me! :)

I downloaded IrfanView in its own prefix with the following:

and it installs and seems to run just fine.
Steps to reproduce
- Start IrfanView
- Start Gimp (Linux-native)
- Open an Image in Gimp
- Copy the image from Gimp into IrfanView
- Paste it into IrfanView
Expected result: Image should show in IrfanView
Actual result: Black screen though dimension of the image are shown at the
bottom of the application.

Samples to demonstrate the issue
Our x64 apps built with Visual Studio 2010 (VS2010) run on macOS for a long
time. We recently have started a project to move to Visual Studion 2019
(VS2019). The same x64 app which works fine when built with VS2010 crashes on
macOS when it is built with VS2019. The crash occurs when the MFC function
AfxBeginThread is called. Static linking is used for linking the MFC and other
libs.
After a very painful research we identified that a simular report has been made
in Nov. 2019 in the Wineskin area
(see https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer/issues/22).
The reporter said "I ended up replacing the AfxBeginThread call with a call to
CreateThread which works fine on all versions." We did the same thing with the
same result. Replacing AfxBeginThread by CreateThread works fine with VS2019.
However, according to

a replacement of AfxBeginThread by CreateThread is not really recommended when
MFC is used.
The crash happens on all macOS versions with Wine 5.4, 5.7 and 5.16 (we took
5.16 from Gcenx (https://github.com/Gcenx/macOS_Wine_builds)). On Windows and
Linux the VS2019 app runs fine. Further, the Win32 equivalent app runs fine on
macOS.
In summary:
A crash happens for AfxbeginThread in an x64 app on macOS with Wine 5.4, 5.7,
5.16.
We did a deeper dive and found that the crash happens inside AfxbeginThread,
module Thread.cpp inside the function __acrt_get_begin_thread_init_policy.

According to the backtrace.txt (attached) the exception happens when reading
from a 32 bit address. This sounds strange to me for a x64 app.

I run the app from the terminal.
I just updated my Wine version from 10.1 to 10.2 and SumatraPDF now starts with
a blank window, no fonts, and crashes afterwards. I use the staging version and
tried both DXVK on and off.

The client crashes when I undock my ship, the launcher still works. The client
worked fine until I undocked. The graphics were turned up to high without
anti-aliasing turned on. It looked great.
When I installed the game, it did not make a shortcut to the game, so I have to
launch it via the terminal. I'm using Gnome.
I made the client windowed because I use multiple accounts (but I only had one
logged in), I then made it full screen. When I did that, it made the full
screen size not be full screen and it asked if I wanted to make it full screen
and I could not click on anything. I had to manually kill the client. Then when
I started the client again, it was a normal full screen.
There is a lot of "fixme" in the terminal screen when I run the game via the
terminal.
I am unable to install the stable version of wine 5. I filed a bug about that
already. So, I had no choice but to install the development version (which
appears to not have the bug).
To get this game to install, I first installed wine-devel.
I made a .wine directory using "/opt/wine-devel/bin/wine wineboot"
I installed the winetricks that is standard in the Buster version of Debian
because that is all I could figure out how to install. The instructions said to
use that to install corefonts and I don't know how to do it without using that
program.
I used that winetricks to install core fonts.
I installed the Visual C++ Runtime packages.
I uninstalled winetricks and the wine stuff it installed as dependencies.
I then installed the game and launched it from the installer. It seemed to work
great until I undocked.

limit in ubuntu.

Eve Error Log
When starting a client from the windows launcher using wine, it will
occasionally error; while other times it starts just fine the first time.
Usually after a few attempts the client starts successfully and runs fine after
that initial hurdle.

I have i3 configured so that the top bar appears when the super key is held,
and so that I can scroll on the bar to change workspaces. For some reason,
this very often does not work in Eve Online, and instead the bar will appear,
but scrolling on it has no effect, and the mouse pointer keeps the Eve style,
instead of returning to the default as it is supposed to. Other windows allow
me to use the bar to change workspaces, including other fullscreen games
(native (I haven't tried any other wine games)).
This may be an issue with grabbing in fullscreen, as although I have the eve
options set to stay in window mode, pressing the i3 key combination to toggle
fullscreen causes the issue to disappear temporarily. The issue also appears
to occur much less often when I have two monitors enabled.

When playing EVE Online with multiple accounts the CTRL-key will be
(constantly) activated when switching between windows. One can "unstuck" the
key by repeatedly clicking CTRL + mouse key somewhere in the window. I can and
will provide any DEBUG logs just someone please tell me the required flags.

the log it gives displays to me when it freezes up
about on average it freezes up 4 or five times a day during a 10 hr play. and

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption intro video scaled
When fullscreen resolution is set to something low and different from aspect
ratio of the monitor, winewayland scales it up, but positions it on the left,
rather than in the middle of the screen and leaves the mismatching area
transparent.
This happened for example in the intro video of Vampire: The Masquerade -
Redemption. The video is 640x346 and my screen is 2560x1440.
See attached screenshot for how it looks.
It would be better if the scaled window was positioned in the middle, with some
black bands for areas that are caused by mismatch in aspect ratio.
Even better if this behavior could be configurable, i.e. where to position,
what to use for bands, like transparent, solid color / what color, etc.

Installation of the Battlefield 2142 Demo (aka training video simulator 2015)
in clean 32-bit Wineprefix.
Launching game without any winetricks verbs, etc. results in the attached
backtrace and console logs.
Executing:
winetricks directx9
and removing all the Wine library overrides allows the game demo to
successfully launch, display a training video and reach the main login screen
(as it can get - due to the shutdown, last year, of the Gamespy Master
Servers).
I haven't been able to successfully launch the game by installing the
individual components of the DirectX9 installer. I did attempt to do this in a
clean 32-bit Wineprefix.

I try to get a dotnet application, which has an editor control (IDE) with a
vertical and an horizontal scrollbar on board, running.
If i scroll vertically or horizontally with the depending scrollbar it always
scrolls in the other direction too!
What can be the problem?
What can I try to solve this behaviour?

Video of the issue
This issue happens on all desktops, in the video of the issue I've attached I'm
using Gnome with Dash to Panel, but it also happens on KDE Plasma and Cinnamon.
Basically I've set my panel to always auto hide, and only when FL Studio is
maximized I can't make the panel show up anymore, whereas if I maximize other
wine apps I can still make the panel show up, as shown in the video of the
issue I've attached.
Perhaps Wine is making the compositor think that FL Studio is a fullscreen
video game, and that's why no matter what DE I use I can't make the panel show
up?
In the recorded video I was using Wayland and Wine was using xwayland.

I've installed wine/10.4 from source on debian12 in the same way than I did
wine-10.3.
However, winegcc from 10.4 seg-faults.

bug-demo program and its source file
When writing for append into a file, Wine returns a bad ftell() file pointer
unless a fflush() is performed before querying with ftell().
See the bug-demo program (run it under bare metal Windows, then under Wine).
This bug has existed like forever (Wine 6 and newer, for sure).

Microsoft Edge will freeze about 1-3 seconds after launching.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Download and install WebView2 (which includes Edge) from
https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/
2. Run:
wine "/PATH/TO/PREFIX/drive_c/Program Files
(x86)/Microsoft/EdgeCore/VERSIONNUMBER/msedge.exe" --no-sandbox --disable-gpu
--no-first-run
Edge will launch, it will respond to inputs for a very short time, then freeze
completely.
--no-sandbox is required for it to launch at all, I will also file a bug for
this issue.
--disable-gpu is required wine wined3d, it can be dropped if using DXVK.
--no-first-run disables the first run prompting you to sign in and such, it has
no bearing on the bug itself. (If omitted, Edge still freezes, including the
dialog.)

Not sure what's going on, but it seems like load_dll is treating the syscall as
a page fault?
Based on test patterns, it appears the bug was introduced between

mscoree:mscoree also fails, but I'm not sure yet whether it's related, although

Bugged video modes on wine wayland driver
Wine Wayland driver fails to properly enumerate video modes for monitors in
multi-monitor setup.
I have 3 monitors:
1. 1080p 60hz 100% scaling landscape
2. 1440p 180hz 125% scaling landscape
3. 1080p 60hz 100% scaling portrait
When I enter "Display Settings" in Wine control panel sometimes placed on each
other, sometimes stacked vertically, but they never positioned right.
Furthermore, 1st and 3rd displays reported 1080p landscape despite 3rd one
rotated to portrait mode, and 2nd display doesn't even report any mode.
No such issue on Xwayland side.

i have tested this problem only seems to effect wine as i am able to get the
program to run and translated the game on windows.

As spotted in ReactOS, there is a flaw in LBS_NOSEL implementation
This is due to the is_item_selected function in dlls/comctl32/listbox.c not
returning "FALSE" when LBS_NOSEL is used as style.

Log from wine version one commit before breaking
Rally Trophy did show mapped keys for keyboard on device configuration before,
but not anymore after commit d62e2268d77c237e8430e158bb337958d88486ba. Tested
on Arch Linux and Sway.
Steps to reproduce:
1. install Rally Trophy demo
2. ensure that you don't have other input devices connected than keyboard and
mouse, otherwise it may change the behaviour
3. start Rally Trophy
4. go to device configuration and notice that list shows no mapped actions

After alt-tabbing out and back to the application in virtual desktop mode the
keys that you pressed appear in the terminal instead of the application.
You can run 'wine notepad' to reproduce this.
Reverting commit 30fa691d99df7d6dfe37d16fe708d603919f9fd1
fixes the problem for me.

Steps to reproduce:
1. install Rally Trophy demo

mouse, otherwise this breaks even before that commit
3. start Rally Trophy
4. go to device configuration
5. set key 's' to have action 'shift up'
6. save device configurations
7. go to in game with manual transmission
8. press key 's' in game and notice that gear does not change

Many videos in the game don't display properly.
Namely: the main menu video plays as a black screen if you wait a short period
of time without pressing any keys (audio plays but there's no video), and many
in-game videos show their content as seemingly offset (some of it can be seen
when it happens but most of it is not visible due to being out of frame) and
interlaced like as if shown on a bad CRT display. This is immediately apparent
when the game shows its first tutorial, and later also easily reproducible when
viewing attack unlock options at upgrade stations and in the game's pause menu
to view what is currently unlocked. What's strange about this, though, is that
some (a minority) of videos do play properly while most don't.
I've also noticed that when this happens, this pops up in Wine's log:

I'm not sure if this is the only issue involved, but I figured it was worth
noting.

Preparation:
- Have the EA app installed:

- I installed it through Bottles, which installs the following Winetricks
dependencies:

Reproducing:
- Set a very long environment variable, before launching the EA app
- From the EA app, launch any game
- Alternatively, execute the game directly, it will automatically launch the
EA app to launch the game
- If you don't have any game, "The Sims 4" is free
- The game won't launch, an error popup from the EA app will appear (see notes)
### Notes
It doesn't matter whether these ~32000 characters are from a single environment
variable, or from the combination of many of them.
I didn't test on Windows. It may be impossible to test there, since the
environment block there has a limit of 32760 characters (which may probably be
the reason for this issue in the first place).
I say "~32000", because the issue starts occurring a little before 32760
characters. However, my counting method was imprecise (I simply typed `set` in
`wine cmd`, then counted the characters), and there's also the fact that the EA
app also sets its own environment variables.
The issue also occurs with games bought from Steam (thus launched with Proton)
that also have to go through the EA app (thanks EA).
This issue existed before, and the weird thing is that the error popup from the
EA app is different from some time ago (I imagine due to the app being
updated).
Before it was: "Failed to launch game. An error on our end caused the launch to
fail. Try again a little later."
Now it's: "The game hasn't released yet" (which is obviously untrue).
Is it a stack overflow issue?
Logs obtained with `WINEDEBUG=EADesktop.exe:+relay` are too big to attach, even
compressed. Let me know what `WINEDEBUG` parameters I should use instead.
I can see that the app calls `GetEnvironmentStringsW`, shortly followed by a
`WideCharToMultiByte` for each variable (key and value separately). This is
done three times.

Only few controls aren't rendered black
Warframe launcher window paints most of it's surface area black. Exception are
control located in the top right corner. It can still be interacted with,
cursor changes to hand pointer over the PLAY button and it does launch the game
(which works flawlessly in wayland mode otherwise)

To test
- Run the installer in clean WINEPREFIX
- Uncheck "Check for Updates"
- Select all components (default)
- When it asks something about the "NI VISA" runtime, select "Yes"
In the install folder (default .wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Anritsu) there
hsould be folders like "Line Sweep Tools" and other. On Wine, those are
missing.
The problem can be worked around by using "winetricks -q dotnet35" before
attempting the install.
Not sure why it can't use wine-mono.
Another way to possibly test: You can unpack the installer exe with 7-zip, then
the $TEMP folder contains the installers, e.g. LST_V1.71_Installer.exe
If you run those, they will complain about missing .NET 3.5 as well.

I tested the Total Annihilation demo on the following Wine versions: 9.22,
9.22-staging, 9.0, 8.0, and 7.0.
Additionally, I tested the GOG version of Total Annihilation with the Commander
Pack on these Wine versions: 9.16 (last working version), 9.0, 8.0, and 7.0.
The bug is present in all tested versions, so it is likely not a regression.

After starting gameplay, everything works correctly, only menu is bugged.

Screenshots and proposed color correction
The color of the drop-down menu in the menu bar is wrong. The color of the
outer frame and arrows is wrong.
I could not seem to fill the background with light.msstyle colors.
The correct color is the inner gray dark background color (note! Not the red
arrow part) becomes more whitish light background color (the same color as the
red arrow part).

Tkd (https://github.com/nomad-software/tkd) GUI toolkit applications built for
Windows now have issues running in Wine 10.4.
The program in question in this report is CodeWrite 1.0.6, source available:

I have verified Wine 10.3 works and functions as expected.
I have performed the recommended steps for verifying (clearing .wine),
verifying no overrides, etc.
I am able to use the program as expected and enter input into input fields.
On Wine 10.4, the application launches successfully and can be moved around.
The input fields are not clickable.
Upon attempting to close the application it will hang/becoming unresponsive
until terminated.
There are no abnormal logs compared to 10.3.

In invoke_vbdisp, the Object property is stored in

The code tries to find the function using the VBDISP_SET index since the
argument is VT_DISPATCH:

At first I tried to reverse the order figuring maybe this was a typo, however
then it broke let's with non-objects.
So as a hack I did this:

`WINEDEBUG=+dinput`, launch game with one gamepad, disonnected, reconnected.
In Horizon Chase Turbo (tested Epic Games Store version), gamepads are only
usable if they have always been connected since the game has been launched.
Otherwise, their inputs are completely ignored, and these gamepads will not be
listed in the player mapping screen (Multiplayer). This is not the case on
Windows.
The only exception is in the title screen: "Press Any Button" does work with
hotplugged gamepads.
Logs are taken on a fresh prefix with `WINEDEBUG=+dinput`. Without this, the
only dinput-related log is:

Horizon Chase default debug channels
When launching Horizon Chase, a game currently being given away on Epic Games
Store for free (until July 1st), the game seems to freeze on startup with the
music still playing.
Notably, in the logs, I see quite a few of error messages of this type,
although I'm not sure if they are related to the core issue:
0118:err:module:find_forwarded_export module not found for forward
'msvcr120.??0critical_section@Concurrency@@QAE@XZ' used by
L"C:\\windows\\system32\\concrt140.dll"
Full log with default debug channels is attached.
Let me know if you need more information or more detailed logs, I'm happy to
test and help resolve the issue.
Also, although I've tested with 6.10, 6.11 has the same issue, but that version
seems to be quite buggy from what I've heard, so I figured a test with 6.10
would be more useful.

The attached tarball includes screenshots and logs for the 4 combinations.
For bare wine (1 & 2), loading takes about 3 mn.
For wine+vkd3d (3 & 4), loading takes 30 s.
With native d3dx9_27, loading is almost instantaneous.
For wine+vkd3d (3 & 4), 85 temp registers are used with a limit at 32.

First, go purist with 'winetricks alldlls=builtin', then
work around bug 33769 with 'winetricks d3dcompiler_43'.
The game seems to start ok, but the initial menu screen
(where Strong Bad speaks the left-hand menu items as you
mouse over them) shows ghosts of Strong Bad and his sidekick
when they move.
'winetricks d3dx9_36' works around the problem.

Log from first bad commit with most warnings enabled
I'm running with "Emulate a virtual desktop" active. I can start ChessBase 18
from the command line with `WINEDEBUG="-warn+all,warn-dpa" wine start
"C:\\Program Files\\ChessBase\\CBase18\\CBase18.exe"` in a 64-bit prefix. The
application launches as usual, but after a few seconds, it stops responding to
the mouse altogether. The CBase18.exe process consumes around 200% CPU as
shown in `top` when this situation occurs. The log output does show new log
entries when I focus or unfocus the virtual-desktop window, but otherwise, it
does not typically appear to be logging anything. I then stop the process from
the command line with, for instance, `killall CBase18.exe`.
I will attach a log from the first bad commit and, shortly thereafter, the last
good commit.

This failure happens as soon as one sets UserDefaultLCID to 0xc01 (Settings ->
Time & Language -> Regional format -> Arabic (Egypt)).
Note: the reason it worked up to 2021-10-21 is because before then
UserDefaultLCID was incorrectly set to English in the w10pro64-ar VM. Then I
upgraded the VM to Windows 21H1 and in the process I recreated the Arabic
snapshot which got the intended locale this time. The current settings are:

PlayOnline Viewer window content does not get updated unless it is running in
the primary X11 screen.
If the window is moved to a secondary screen, the application keeps running and
accepting input, but the image will be frozen to what it was when moved there,
or it will remain black if minimised and restored.
As a sidey-note, when running via winewayland, the window content is black
regardless of the screen it is running in [1].

If you compile Wine i686 using GCC, a WINEPREFIX is populated with stubs and is
relatively small - around 37MB for Wine 10.0.
If you compile Wine using mingw-gcc along with --enable-archs=i386,x86_64, a
WINEPREFIX is populated with full fat binaries and libraries and takes over
650MB while most of the data _fully_ mirrors what Wine already
contains/installs systemwide in /usr/lib64/wine.
This becomes especially wasteful if you have multiple bottles/WINEPREFIX'es.
Could Wine let's say populate the WINEPREFIX with symlinks instead and only if
a Windows application attempts to overwrite them (not wine itself), they are
turned into real files? Even this case looks kinda outlandish (except DirectX)
since Windows has featured WinSxS since Vista (in XP in was optional) and files
under /Windows/system32 and /Windows/SysWoW64 are immutable.

An application I installed provides a nice little .url file:

webpage. Running 'cygstart foo.url' in windows does the same (wrapper around
windows start.exe).
On wine, however, I get:

specified file.
ShellExecuteEx failed: Success
and I don't get a nice wine gecko window :(.
perhaps it only needs to be added to tools/wine.inf?

Screenshot without keys
I will use Far Cry 3 for demonstration, but all applications, that i tested
shows the same behavior.
When English layout is not selected as default in keyboard settings (in OS
settings, not Wine) games doesn't recognize keys at all (screenshot). When i
select English layout as default, all is ok. Console output have no information
about it.

Wine recently appears well capable of using wayland. However, it seems to
ignore the `XDG_SESSION_TYPE` env variable. Making wine work in wayland mode
requires manually unsetting `DISPLAY`, which seems not adherent to common
practice and XDG standards.
If the situation is only temporary (e.g., to favor X11 until wayland support is
fully developed), please take my apologize for the noise.

win32u: Always update the surface regions in apply_window_pos.
We need to call update_surface_region whenever the window rect changes
as it uses the visible rect to clip the regions to the visible area
of the window.
We could delegate this to the host windowing system in most cases, but
it was explicitly clipped to the visible rect in the Android driver.

I have my G903 configured such that pressing one of the extra buttons emulates
pressing F14 on a keyboard. I have also built a foot pedal using a
microcontroller that does the same thing. I use this for push-to-talk in
Discord.
When I press the extra button on my mouse, this seems to cause an error in wine
that stops all HIDRAW devices from working until I restart wineserver. Oddly
and importantly, the foot pedal does not cause the same issue. (I'm vaguely
aware this mouse is what Logitech calls 'HID++', so I wouldn't be surprised if
they are doing something weird that is tripping wine up.)
I've attached a log of reproducing the issue by running 'wine control' with
WINEDEBUG=+hid,+plugplay,+dinput,+rawinput
Now that I know how to do it I can reproduce the issue 100% of the time.

I originally just wanted to swap my Control and Command key. After a while I
finally made my way to Bug #35351. (note: I didn't find any documentation about
this besides that issue and a bunch of websites with outdated statements like
it isn't possible and one has to use 3rd-party hotkey tools).
I then noticed the solution https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35351#c6
but accidentally at first configured these settings within HKLM instead of HKCU
as the key "HKLM\Software\Wine\Mac Driver" did already existed where as
"HKCU\Software\Wine\Mac Driver" did not. And to my surprise it didn't work
then.
I think this is a bit unintuitive and therefore would like to suggest that
everything that currently checks for a value within "HKCU\Software\Wine\*"
should fall back onto "HKLM\Software\Wine\*" if it is absent.
Would this be possible to implement in a kinda generic way? It is also more or
less what Microsoft Windows does (for the most part at least).

Also, in the middle of the errors, I got a prompt to install wine mono
installer, and I clicked on "install", but the errors happen also without
installing it.
At the end of the errors,the configuration of wine finally does open, which is
the good part.
Few important points to mention:
1. I tested this on kali linux 2025.1, but also on linux mint 22.1, so it has
nothing to do with kali linux.
2. I tested this on winehq-devel version 10.3 (the latest version up to date)
3. I installed winehq-devel exactly by the steps written in
https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/wikis/Debian-Ubuntu
4. In the error log, I am not referring to the "fixme" messages, I know they
are
features that will be added in the future.

I can't move my windowed fullscreen app from the default monitor to my second
monitor. It tries to move but after one frame is drawn it reverts back to the
default monitor.
I suspect the regression is caused by 6a2e414d as this is the only relevant
change that came in 10.4 that wasn't in 10.3.
I reverted 6a2e414d and rebuilt 10.4 and now my windowed fullscreen application
won't open its main window at all.

This was tested in Windows XP with Wine's comdlg32.dll.
Steps to reproduce:
1. set Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Device to a
non-existent printer
2. run comdlg32 printdlg test
Expected result:
PageSetupDlgA should fail with PDERR_NODEFAULTPRN
Acutal result:
test_PageSetupDlgA crashes after null pointer dereference in
GdiConvertToDevmodeW
Remarks:
If the value of the system default printer stored in Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Device gets corrupted or is not properly set upon
printer
removal, PageSetupDlgA called with the PSD_RETURNDEFAULT flag will cause an
unhandled exception in gdi32:GdiConvertToDevmodeW after calling it with a null
devmode.
At comdlg32:pagesetup_common@3862 get_default_printer will succeed but the
returned printer will be bogus. Then pagesetup_change_printer will fail trying
to get the default driver. When pagesetup_update_papersize is called few lines
below the devmode stored in the pagesetup_data struct passed to it will be
null, which will lead to the crash.
Solution:
Function comdlg32:pagesetup_common needs to check the return value of
comdlg32:pagesetup_change_printer and return if it fails. Attached is a
possible solution to this bug.

It looks that those errors are present when no Vulkan support is avaiable. In
my case, I can confirm them for an iMac12,2 which uses the r600 Mesa driver as
well as for an even older iMac5,1 which uses the r300 one.
Otherwise Wine seems to work normally.

Vertical handle is unable to reach the bottom.
Observed in Ubuntu with Wine 9.10 but this has been reported in ReactOS too (

quoting comment from the ticket :
"The messages that indicate scroll bar position, WM_HSCROLL and WM_VSCROLL,

The Scenes tab of the quest window draws a flow chart menu with a vertical
resolution of 1 pixel making it unusable.
An internal function in "Creation Kit.exe" creates the flow chart menu and is
called two times (with the second call overwriting the first)
by calling IntersectRect with the correct menu resolution and an uninitialized
RECT structure that contains mostly random values. Afterwards
function calls in the creation kit sets the values in the uninitialized RECT to
left=-2, top=-1, right=1094215229, bottom=1 on both Windows and Wine.
On Wine this RECT is an input to IntersectRect with the correct resolution and
outputs a RECT with top=0, bottom=1 leading to the unusable menu.
On Windows a call to KiUserCallbackDispatcher overwrites the incorrect RECT to
have bottom=32767 before the second IntersectRect call making RECT
invalid due to the bottom value being larger than top. This causes the
IntersectRect call to fail and create the menu later in the creation kit.
Since the menu with a resolution of 1 is technically valid the creation kit
never sets it to the correct resolution on wine.

Vanilla Wine 10.3 Log
The game works enough to get to the main menu with just DXVK, but Wine throws a
failed Vulkan assert immediately upon actually starting a new game session
after confirming at the main menu: not even a loading screen is seen before it
happens.

When running heavy multi threaded programs such as scientific applications or
benchmarks it shows that only 64 threads can be used.

As the title says, Europa Universalis 4 Golden Century (so version 1.28.3
Spain), require TGA file support for D3DXSaveSurfaceToFileInMemory function.
In the log there is :
0057:fixme:d3dx:D3DXSaveSurfaceToFileInMemory File format 0x2 is not supported
yet
After the line the application catch a MEMORY_ACCESS_VIOLATION and close
itself.
In the log there is also a bunch of:
0057:fixme:d3dx:D3DXLoadSurfaceFromMemory Unhandled filter 0x80004.
For now winetricks d3d9x_43 is a workaround

before this commit (i.e., with c7e87b536edb28bb48162690e0d42c9ba9ccb43c),
installing/starting ie after `winetricks -q ie8` works without failure. After
this commit, there's a race.
Of course, it's a race, so I can't be 100% sure, but I can run at
c7e87b536edb28bb48162690e0d42c9ba9ccb43c 15 times in a row without failure, but
fails most of the time at f034084d49b354811096524d472ae5172ac1cebf).
To reproduce:
$ wineserver -k ; rm -rf ~/.wine ; winetricks -q ie8 ; wineserver -w ; wine
'C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe' http://example.org
if successful, IE will show its window. If it fails, no window will appear.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Run `sudo sysctl vm.mmap_min_addr=0`
2. Run `DISPLAY=:1 wine MYST.EXE`
In Wine 3.1, the game pops up a dialog that says "Myst requires a 256-color
palettized display driver." But in Wine 3.2 and later, Wine just prints an
error like the following:

On the main database selection screen the database table (left of screenshot)
is rendered incorrectly. The background is black when white would be expected.
In addition, non-selected entries (above the one that is visible) are also not
showing. On the right hand side, the games are showing, but where there are no
more entries (there is only one in this database) it is also being rendered
with a black background instead of white.

Some older visual novels require using the Japanese Shift JIS locale, which has
to be generated via `localedef` (at least on Linux Mint and Artix Linux).
I generated mine as such (following this[0] Wine forum post):
```
localedef -c -f SHIFT_JIS -i ja_JP ja_JP.SJIS
```
But when running the game's installer (after logging out and in for the changes
to take effect), Wine gives an unrecognized charset error:
```
$ LC_ALL="ja_JP.SJIS" wine ./Setup.exe
err:environ:init_unix_codepage unrecognized charset 'SHIFT_JIS'
```
This is because in dlls/ntdll/unix/env.c, the `charset_names` array's entry for
Shift JIS is wrong.
As can be seen in the command, and in $I18NPATH/charmaps
(/usr/share/i18n/charmaps on my system), The gzip-compressed character map file
is called `SHIFT_JIS.gz` instead of `SJIS.gz`.
This is solved by changing the `name` from "SJIS" to "SHIFTJIS" in the array
element.

Screen recordings of the original operation (win8.1) and the incorrect
operation (wine). Please check the attached mp4.
Bug Description:
Win8.1 (correct):
- Click on the “Inbox” button.
- Press the “Receive Mail” button
- Each time an email is received, the email is added to the email list.
Wine (wrong):
- Click on the inbox
- Press the “Receive Mail” button
- Mail is received, but the ListView of the mail list is not updated at all.
After switching to another location, such as the outbox, click the inbox again,
and the new mail will appear in the ListView.
I used Spy++ to investigate Becky on Win8_1. I found the LVM_SETITEMCOUNT
message in the ListView of the Mail List screen. Maybe the Virtual List View is
not redrawing properly.
