I would suggest that when you install it you do it like so:
wine /mnt/cdrom/setup.exe
if you are are runing it from the mount point then that is probably the problem.

Summary: Cannot unmount cdrom during Call of Duty installation,
must manually sym link to install
Product: Wine
Version: 20041201
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: bentleysidwell(a)yahoo.com
When asked to swap CDs upon installing Call of Duty the CDROM cannot be
unmounted due to open files. Therefore, the only way to install the game was to
go to ~./wine/dosdevices and symlink z: to /media/cdrom for disc one, and when
it asked for disc 2, it had to be symlinked to /media/cdrom1, there was simply
no other way to perform this installation.
Fedora Core 3 Kernel 2.6.9

Snapshot of state of Topo! install at trap-time for CVS wine of 2004-12-23
Aha! I'm beginning to grasp the idiosyncracies of the Wine bugzilla and the
role of the URL field.
The visual feedback from the Topo! installer is confusing, at best. It
announces that it is starting an InstallShield install, but does indeed appear
to running the Windows installer, cf. the screen snapshot.
The error under the 20041201 rpm appears to be DCOM related, from what I glean
on Google.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help in diagnosing this
one.
Thanks for your interest.

what version of wine did it work with? If it was fairly recent you can find the
patch that broke it relativly easily by doing regression testing. The way to do
this is outlined here.
