Summary: Change codepage for ru_UA and uk_UA locales
Product: Wine
Version: 10.11
Hardware: x86-64

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

Wine seems to change the current 8-bit codepage based on locales.
For ru_RU, it seems to be something like CP866 or Windows-1251.
I would expect it to be the same for ru_UA and something like CP1125/RUSCII for
uk_UA.
However, it seems to fallback to (something closer to) CP437 or Windows-1252,
resulting in garbage latin characters for cyrillic text.
ru_RU Example: Яндекс.Браузер — это безопасный и быстрый браузер с нейросетями.
uk_UA Example: ßíäåêñ.Áðàóçåð — ýòî áåçîïàñíûé è áûñòðûé áðàóçåð ñ íåéðîñåòÿìè.

--- Comment #20 from Stian Low <wineryyyyy(a)gmail.com> ---
I confirm Hunk FAILED errors occurred when applying the original diff patch.
I recreated the original patch 1 to 1 and confirmed it was valid and resolved
all reported issues.
I ran `git diff > git.patch` to produce the new patch.
I ran `git apply git.patch` without any of the previous Hunk FAILED errors.
This is among the oldest highest priority bugs in Bugzilla and seems ready to
be resolved.

Summary: winepath -w with wine 10.11 generates wrong filenames

two examples for the misbehvior of winepath -w with wine 10.11
using winepath -w to convert linux path to windows path with wine 10.11 outputs
wrong filenames at least on my system.
While the generated directory-path seems to be correct the filename is not.
Instead of the last character from the filename the last five characters of the
filename are appended leading for example to "...\covecover.jpg" instead of
"...\cover.jpg".
This problem was not present in wine 10.9 (also downgrade to 10.9 resolves the
problem) as shown in the attachement with two examples.

Observed in the pipeline failure here:
https://gitlab.winehq.org/mono/wine-mono/-/jobs/169670
The build script in Wine Mono uses winepath -w to get a windows path for one of
its outputs.
The command, though not logged, would have been:
winepath -w /builds/mono/wine-mono/build/winemono-support.cab
Based on debugging in other places, I think that outputs:
Z:\builds\mono\wine-mono\build\winemono-supporpport.cab

kernel32: Reimplement conversion to DOS name using
GetFinalPathNameByHandleW.
dlls/kernel32/path.c | 44 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++---------

The pattern seems to be that it fails when given an absolute path to a file
that does not exist. The directory that would contain the file must exist or it
won't output anything.
The result seems to always be <path with last 5 characters cut off> + <last 9
characters of path>.

Bug ID: 58437
Summary: Total Commander 11.55 complains "Access denied" for
EVERY file >= 1 MB in "Compare files by content"
Product: Wine
Version: 10.0
Hardware: x86-64

Created attachment 78885

screenshot displaying the error message
When I call in TC (Total Commander) Menu "Files / Compare By Content" and one
(or both) files have a size of 1 MB or greater (exactly 1.048.576 bytes or
anything greater) then TC shows an Error Message "Access denied on file XYZ"
(see attached screenshot) and the compare aborts.
But EXACTLY the same file(s) can be displayed (by F3 = Lister) and edited (by
F4 = Editor) WITHOUT any problems! So this file has NO general problems, but
only always with Menu "Files / Compare By Content".
More infos:
- this bug occurs identically with ALL tested 32-bit versions of TC = 11.55 +
11.51 + 10.51 + 10.50 + 9.51 + 8.52
- this bug does NOT occur with all tested 64-bit versions of TC = 11.51 +
10.52 (but in all 64-bit versions of TC it's GUI is displayed not correctly,
which makes using them confusing and uncomfortable, so 64-bit is no good
workaround)
- it did not help to create a new 32 bit wineprefix via "WINEARCH=win32
WINEPREFIX=/home/hg6/.wine32 winecfg"
- this bug occurs with wine-10.0 and wine-9.0 (Ubuntu 9.0~repack-4build3),
both on Ubuntu 24.04 x86_64
- this bug only occurs with all files >= 1 MB on NTFS + FAT32 + FAT16 file
systems, but not on an ext4 file system
- this bug did NOT occur with wine-6.0.3 (on Ubuntu 22.04 x86_64 with exactly
the same files and exactly the same TC versions)
- of course this bug does not occur on pure Windows (with exactly the same
files and exactly the same TC versions)
- chkdsk (in pure Windows) did not find any errors on the affected drives
