Timeouts aren't currently supported in wininet. Additionally, in Windows, a
cable unconnected event is generated and causes the adaptor to behave as if it
were offline. This isn't the case in Linux.
I'm not sure why the exception occurs. Please generate a +wininet log and attach
it to the bug.

On Fedora Core 5 (which will be released soon) and I suspect on other Linux
distros as well cds are mounted dynamically and automatically. If you insert a
cd into your drive it will be automatically mounted with its name as cdrom
dir... e.g. if your cd is called 'winecollection' it will be mounted as
/media/winecollection
wine fail to detect these kinds of mounted cds thus rendering all cdrom stuff
pretty much useless.

I have the same prolem using Quicken 2005 Basic under Wine 0.9.8. Several
actions will cause this. Trying to "Edit" but not "Enter" a scheduled
transaction and trying to enter a transaction in an investment account are two
that I can think of right now.
It doesn't appear to me, though that it is trying to create two windows. It
looks like it is creating noe window and then giong into a resize loop, flashing
between the default size and a smaller size (about 100x100, I'd guess). While
it is doing this, the CPU usage goes to 100%. If I quickly go to a different
virtual screen (I'm using Gnome under Fedora Core 4) and then return, the
flashing stops, but the window has shrunk to an absolute minimum and cannot be
resized. I can then <esc> or use the window "Close" command to get rid of it.

Vitaliy, it is unclear to me what you mean with patch -up. If I try to run

hello
To test this bug you must to have a XP partition with python24 and scons install
on it.
Now add to your %PATH% the path of scons.bat usually c:/Python24
create SConstruct file with
-------
import sys
print sys.argv
-------
now configure wine to be in windows98 mode.
start a wcmd
then type scons.
you should see:
H:\tmp>scons
scons: Reading SConscript files ...
['-c']
scons: done reading SConscript files.
scons: Building targets ...
scons: `.' is up to date.
scons: done building targets.
if you hace writen: scons configure
H:\tmp>scons configure
scons: Reading SConscript files ...
['-c', 'configure']
scons: done reading SConscript files.
scons: Building targets ...
scons: *** Do not know how to make target `configure'. Stop.
scons: building terminated because of errors.
the scons error is normal
So as you can see the command line is well parse
['-c'] and ['-c', 'configure']
now if you configure wine to be in XP mode and do the same test
you obtained:
['-c'] and ['-c']
the command line is no more well parse.
This problem is not present on a native XP machine.
just for information my c: is the original windows partition.
if I do the test by installing phyton23 and scons on the drive_c I obtaine the
same result ['-c'] and ['-c'].
Have a nice day.

The crash happens on reading address 0xb018cf0, which is an argument to the

Exactly the same address appears when running this program in Windows under a
debugger. So the address is not the problem, but why it cannot be read in Wine
while apparently it can be in windows.
I am a bit stuck here, since the Windows debugger also reports that address
cannot be read. The program seems to be able to do that just fine without
causing exceptions.

I don't think i'm missing headers, since the compile for earlyer wine
versions (like CVS from 27.02.2006) runs smoothly. This error appeared these
last few days in CVS.
This is the error from CVS 02.03.2006
I'm using Fedora Core 4 with updates, gcc version is:
gcc (GCC) 4.0.2 20051125 (Red Hat 4.0.2-8)
(i made all the proper compile steps: ./configure; make depend && make
and the CVS update was done with: cvs update -PAd)

Arjan, please don't post any Microsoft code to bugzilla, wine-devel or anywhere
else. We depend upon Wine developers not looking at it, because we may
implement our own versions of MFC or other publicly available Microsoft code one
day.
I think this does not invalidate your bug, so I'm reopening it.

Well, I do apologies! I thought to be of assistence. This source is basically
available to anyone with Visual Studio 2005, so I saw no harm in it.
I take a bit of offence at your very short and strong answer. If you do not
want me to help improve Wine fine; I spend quit a lot of time in figuring out
what is wrong, more to help Wine a step further than for my own code actually.

Looks like rpmbuild is trying to interpret Wine's .spec files as its own.
I don't think this has ever worked, and if it has, then rpmbuild has regressed.

I'm tempted to close this as invalid. winetools are not part of the official
wine distribution, and Wine has its own msi implementation which you should use
in preference to the native one.
Why should I help you not to help us?

Summary: Problem with Internet Exceptions !

Hello.
I have the following code compiled with Visual C++ 6.0 and it run very well
under Wine in Linux until i disconect the Ethernet Cable from the PC and cut of
the connection to the Internet manually.
If i make the same thing with the Programm in windows then the Programm does
immediatly go (less then a Second) to the CInternetException Routine and Catch
there the Lost and Timeouted Connection.
Under Wine the Programm wait about more than 70 Seconds till it show the Message
from the CInternetException Routine.
After this the Programm is for about 60 seconds totally Blocked and crash then
with a Error Message from Wine.
>From my side of View something with the Implementation of the function
"CInternetException" is wrong.
It wait extremly long till it catch the Timeouted Internet Conection block then
the Application Totaly and Crush it after this the Application.
Here is the little Programm code which i use for Compiling it under Visual C++
You need the following two DLL Files if you want it to run under Wine additionaly
MFC42.DLL
MSVCP60.DLL
//-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
InternetSession= new CInternetSession(

{

if(ReadToken_i!=0)
{
Puffer[ReadToken_i]='\0';
strcat(Buffer,Puffer);
}
}
while(ReadToken_i!=0);
HttpFile->Close();
delete HttpFile;
}

1) If I disable the side-by-side assembly support completely in Wine, the
applications starts working! (Please see the attached kernel32.spec file.) The
MFC library tries to determine support for this function by using getprocaddress
on 4 functions (see lines 123-145 in attached file appcore.cpp which is part of
the MFC library).
2) Make the functions ActivateActCtx and DeactivateCtx return TRUE in stead of
false FALSE. (see attached actctx.x file). This is related to the
AfxActivateXtxWrapper function on line 245 in afxstate.cpp MFC source file.
Hopefully one of the 2 solutions can be incorporated without breaking any other
programs running on wine.

Even with a newly created .wine I still get the same crash. I realized that the
application installes a msvbvm60.dll. To me it seems like a MS-something
runtime. They are normally not overwritten if a newer version is found. Maybe
this is the problem. I'll try a new install of the application.

This has nothing to do with the .net libraries. The program runs fine on a
Windows NT4.0 machine with no .net libraries installed.
The side-by-side assembly stuff is then of course not used (the MFC uses
getprocaddress to establish if it should use this or not).

Hogne, can you attach a two dumps of your MBR then - one working and another one
corrupt?
I'd do something like this on working machine:
$ dd if=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1 | od -t x1 > hda_OK.mbr
The I would run D2, reboot to working system on the same machine (LiveCD?) and
would repeat the command:
$ dd if=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1 | od -t x1 > hda_BAD.mbr
It would help to know what parts of MBR are changed and in a what way. You may
try comparing dumps by yourself, of course:
$ diff -u hda_OK.mbr hda_BAD.mbr
Thanks.

It seems to happen in Unreal Tournament GOTY and Diablo II too when the WM
doesn't manages the WINE Windows and you give focus to another app (terminal, x-
chat, etc)... basically any keyboard input is lost, and whatever you type is
being sent to the last app that got focus, but not WINE.

I tried various things, first of all creating dialog based, sdi & mdi
application all give debug assertion. I traced this down to the use of side-by-
side assembliies in MFC (resulting in ActivateActCtx calls, which are not yet
supported in Wine). It calls functions like AfxInitCommonControlsEx and
AfxRegisterClass which then give no valid results. If I copy paste a bit of
MFC source and hack this a bit I can get rid of these assertion (see attached
test case. The dialog based applications then starts working, the MDI
application still quits in the way I originally described, so this migth not
be related at all???
I attached the source and executable versions of my program so you can try for
yourself.
