Actually, Jacek Caban in comment #6 was asking if reverting the patch on a
current version would fix the issue first and if it did not to submit a trace.
I take it you are useing a packaged version of wine and not compiling from source.
If you compile from source you can reverse teh patch by downloading the patch to
the root wine directory and issuing the patch command in wine root directory
patch -p0 -R < name of patch.
After that you can recompile wine.
./configure
make depend && make
su make install

I'm using these applications on a laptop with not much such 3d muscle as a
desktop card. I really need these applications to work. I've been poking the
0.9.2 sources to get Luxology Modo to work somewhat properly.
I managed to get the interface and opengl to draw at the same time by simply
disabling the double buffering. This ends up to be pretty cheap solution. The
only problem is positioning the opengl viewports because I don't have the
insight in the x11drv yet to implement:
- Reposition the viewport on every call to glViewport().
- Call glScissor to clip the viewport so it won't overdraw the interface.
- Adapt glClear to stay inside the scissored area.
And you should be done, giving a cheap and easy fix of the problem on
cards/drivers without a funky gl extension ;)
The second (and sane) solution is to use separate X child windows for each
openGL viewport. This can be done when the device context is attached, then you
can make an special exception for child windows with openGL attached. Most
programs use separate X (child) windows to position the openGL viewport because
it's so easy to do. The contents of these openGL subwindows is never draw by
GDI. X applications use the the same solution. But you probably now this ;)
Trying to blit a openGL viewport inside a window means reimplementing part of
the X window system and all driver specific trouble with it making the
implementation unreliable. The first implementation of the WM was very sweet for
this situation and lets X windows handle the complexity of clipping the viewport
and double buffering it.
I'd really like to have the first solution implemented as a switch as a
temporary solution even if it isn't double buffered. This would at least give us
somewhat usable applications.
Thanks.

Hi.
I got simmilar error - on current(yesterdays) Fedora Core 4 Athlon rpm version
of wine.
I don't have an exact error message here but it was about files whose can not
be coppied.
I was thinking about it - and i think there is trouble about permissions for
directories when installing from CD ...
All directories which appeared in "C:" installation path kept their permitions
as they are on CD - CD is read only ..
Hopefully helps.

| And apparently the toolhelp.dll.ClassFirst is not yet implemented on WINE:
Though I think it should be implemented already:
$ ll dlls/toolhelp*
| -rw-rw-r-- 1 s2 s2 13 Feb 22 12:50 dlls/toolhelp.dll16
| lrwxrwxrwx 1 s2 s2 15 Feb 13 00:42 dlls/toolhelp.dll.so -> kernel32.dll.so
$ cat dlls/toolhelp.dll16
| kernel32.dll
Looks like another reference to the same builtin module "kernel32.dll".
$ cat dlls/kernel32.dll.so | strings | grep ClassFirst
| ClassFirst
| __wine_stub_ClassFirst
Stub?
$ grep -r ClassFirst dlls/kernel
| dlls/kernel/toolhelp.h:BOOL16 WINAPI ClassFirst16( CLASSENTRY *pClassEntry );
| dlls/kernel/toolhelp.spec:#69 pascal -ret16 ClassFirst(ptr) ClassFirst16
| dlls/kernel/toolhelp.spec:69 stub ClassFirst
| Binary file dlls/kernel/kernel32.dll.so matches
| Binary file dlls/kernel/toolhelp.spec.o matches
Stub, but lets go further:
$ grep -r ClassFirst dlls/*/*.c
| dlls/user/class.c: * ClassFirst (TOOLHELP.69)
| dlls/user/class.c:BOOL16 WINAPI ClassFirst16( CLASSENTRY *pClassEntry )
So, it's implemented, only in another module, in "user32.dll". I don't know
whether it can be forwarded at imports level. Probably it cannot. Kernel32
must not depend on User32, I guess.
Then it perhaps can be imported during run-time linking via GetProcAddres().
Or maybe the situation will change in nearest future as I saw AJ doing some
module-load-rewrite recently. :)

The crash looks like it is because the app has specified a resource ID in the
lpszText field of TOOLINFO when adding the tooltip.
Now when getting the tooltip (which is where is crash is happening) we have to
determine whether the correct behaviour is to return the resource ID in the
lpszText field (i.e. just bypass the call to WideCharToMultiByte) or to return
the loaded text.

By removing the original "CTL3DV2.DLL" I got the first error out. But I still
get the error on the "toolhelp.dll.ClassFirst", apparently this function is only
implemented on Windows3.1 and Windows95. Someone has an idea about this?
Now I get the following:
wine: Call from 0x7b83e3e0 to unimplemented function toolhelp.dll.ClassFirst,

WineDbg terminated on pid 0x8
And I found that this function is only on Windows3.1 and partly on Windows95:
As part of the move toward each application knowing only about itself,
USER has changed the way it maintains the list of window classes. In
Windows 3.1, all window classes were stored in a linked list. You could
walk through the list and obtain the class names and owning module with
the TOOLHELP ClassFirst and ClassNext functions. In Windows 95,
ClassFirst and ClassNext still work, but they return information only about
the standard system classes (such as buttons) that USER registers at startup
ime. Classes that are registered by applications are kept in a private list. At
least part of the information for each of these private classes is kept in
USER's 16-bit DGROUP, but again, TOOLHELP. DLL knows nothing of
hem. Chapter 4 covers the changes to window classes in Windows 95.
And apparently the toolhelp.dll.ClassFirst is not yet implemented on WINE:
http://source.winehq.org/WineAPI/toolhelp.html
Is there any other way to get a working toolhelp.dll.ClassFirst???
Cheers!

Hi arthur, i can confirm the bug, it pops up right here as well. However, a little
googling showed it is probably related to the fact that the trial expires
version after 30 days. Are you able to test the thing a a windowsinstallation?
Maybe the thing you (and me) have downloaded shows the same behaviour on windows.

Bug is a regression as crash does not occur with 0.9.6 (latest gentoo stable of
wine)
using native mscvrt.dll does not solve the issue.

What are the console error messages reported under wine 0.9.8? There are more X
issues that could cause this again. Also if you could test your working system
with 0.9.8, if you haven't already. Also if you could give me your X version.

I build wine with the spec of wine-200411 and the wine-0.9.8.tar.bz2 on my box
with Fedora Core 4 full updated.
And textpad-4.7.3 (from www.textpad.com) stops to run
with
wine "C:\Program Files\TextPad 4\TextPad.exe"

you may download it and try to run it

I use this software from time to time. I see a difference running under win 95
via qemu vs native. When dragging a window frame under 95 it only paints the
boarders. Under wine it paint the entire canvas. I think I remember options on
win98 to enable the paint while drag which is the way that wine does it.
I did upgrade from Mandriva 2005 LE which used xfree to Mandriva 2006.0 which is
using DRI from the xorg. I have an all in one biostar mb with semipron 2500.
After the update the xorg DRI and OpenGL things are a work or are faster.
I did notice that when drawing nets that the big cross cursor that covers the
window does not show. I think it is a problem with my video drivers as I did a
regression testing back to Sept 2005 and it does not show the cursor when
drawing a net. When I get a chance I will install my older version on a spare
harddrive and test.

If you updated your driver recently, I suggest backing down to an older version
to see if there is a difference. Or if you can prove that wine 0.9.7 works with
your driver, that can help too.

Sorry about that...
I posted this bug with hoping it isn't a bug, but a configuration error of mine
(in the dlls, etc) since I dont really understand this debugging messages and I
want to help the best way I can...
Is there a guide or something to get me thru this thing of deferred dlls? I know
that I can't mix native and builtin components such as ole32 native and oleaut32
builtin, that is the sort of information I want, the groups of libraries such as
this (ole32, oleaut32 and rpcrt4).
Hope you can help me get this info, so I can be lot more helpful.
Thanx

(Also, I spelled "manger" as "manager.")

First, I found that if I use the native Win98 hhctrl.ocx it gets rid of the
'fixme:htmlhelp:HtmlHelpW HH case HH_INITIALIZE not handled.' error.
Second, attached you will find my dump that was generated by using the following
command line:
WINEDEBUG="+loaddll,+ole,+oledlg,+fixme" wine paf5.exe
In my winecfg, I have hhctrl.ocx, usp10.dll set to "native, builtin". This dump
is the paf5_dump_hhctrl file.
Running it again, without using the native hhctrl.ocx you get file paf5_dump.
This is running 0.9.8 compiled from source.
