You need to run 'ldconfig' after you installed wine. That's all.

Thats a little tricky You could just attach the program to the bug its seems
small enough
So am I correct that you have the source for this program?

I'm not understanding what I'm supposed to do to patch the source like you did.
I tried patching the 0_9_8 CVS tag/version and the patch applied correctly, but
like it was already mentioned "fixme:winsock:WS_getnameinfo getnameinfo()
failed, not found during buildtime" appears, and bittorrent just pops up a
message about its log.
I tried getting the latest CVS checkout (into a new directory). That seemed to
already include the changes in the patch, but after compilation I got the same
results by running bittorrent.exe.
In the latest CVS checkout:
$ grep getnameinfo /usr/include/netdb.h
returns nothing and:
$ grep -A7 getnameinfo config.log
configure:14784: checking for getnameinfo
configure:14841: gcc -m32 -o conftest -m32 -L/emul/linux/x86/usr/lib/ -m32

I have the 32-bit X11 headers installed and shall use the switch you suggest.
Is it possible to set a link or something to cause Wine to find libwine.so and
associates under /usr/local/lib? Strangely, it is obviously finding all the
other dlls (under /usr/local/lib/wine), so it must largely be aware that I
have installed under /usr/local.
Thanks for all your help!

(1) When making ddraw.dll, gcc is correctly instructed to compile each
component C file 32-bit, with the correct X11 include path, e.g.:
make[2]: Entering directory `~/wine/dlls/ddraw'
gcc -m32 -c -I. -I. -I../../include -I../../include -I/usr/X11R6/include
-D__WINESRC__ -D_REENTRANT -fPIC -Wall -pipe -fno-strict-aliasing -gstabs+
-Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wpointer-arith -g -O2 -o clipper.o clipper.c
But it seems that winegcc is then being hardwired to look to the 64-bit X11
libraries, whereas it needs the 32-bit ones:
../../tools/winegcc/winegcc -B../../tools/winebuild -shared ./ddraw.spec
clipper.o ddraw_hal.o ddraw_main.o ddraw_thunks.o ddraw_user.o ddraw_utils.o
main.o palette_hal.o palette_main.o regsvr.o surface_dib.o
surface_fakezbuffer.o surface_gamma.o surface_hal.o surface_main.o
surface_thunks.o surface_user.o surface_wndproc.o version.res -o

-L../../libs/port -lwine_port

/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/4.0.2/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld:
cannot find -lXext
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
Using --x-libraries=/usr/X11/lib will solve that problem, but - and with
respect - I wonder how widespread the issue is among 64-bit users, and whether
it might need addressing in code.
(2) /usr/local/lib *is* in my ld.so.conf file. I expect that using ./configure
--prefix=/usr will work, since *everything* will then be prepared for an
installation directly below /usr, so the libwine* files will conveniently be
in the right place. However, if one wishes to deliberately install wine
under /usr/local, then I would have thought that Wine *should* place its
libwine* files in /usr/local/lib and be configured to look for them there.

I started with wine-20050310 (binary) and my oldest source was wine-20050419,
When I found the Bug, I tried as much as I was able to do with my non-existent
knowledge on OpenGL.
Tested 20050419: The Visual Bugs are the same.
Searching bugzilla for "OpenGL" result in ~50 entries, but no matching Entry.
- OpenGL left
- OpenGL bottom
- OpenGL client
- OpenGL area
- OpenGL clear
- OpenGL overwrite
=> No Entry found, so i filled the Bug 2 days later.
What i missed, was the wiki. Sorry for that.
When I got your commend, I downloaded wine-20050111, and yes, the Behavior is
different:
The Position-Slider and the Bottons are ok, but the Video-Area is Black.
So with vlc, we have an Application with Source to reproduce the Bug.
Feel free to change Bug #2398 to match this Bug (Summary, URL, keywords or what
you like.)

I was getting into similar situation once. I even wrote some patch to avoid
the crash [1], but it wasn't accepted. Maybe it is just tries to recover from
it too weak. But it helped me. Can you give it a go and report results? :)
If it helps, Nvidia binary drivers are the thing to blame. I wonder if OpenGL
specs tell it can work at 8 bpp color depth at all?

On my (Athlon 64-bit) system, there are a couple of library-path problems:
1. 'Make' does not find my X11 library files; I export
LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/X11R6/lib to get past this;
2. The installation process puts the libwine* files in /usr/local/lib, but I
have to move them to /usr/lib to make Wine find them.

Confirming. By doing a complete dumb hack like replacing line 718 in
dlls/ddraw/main.c:
assert(bpp != 0); /* keeps happening... */
by
if(bpp==0) return 3;
the app starts up fine. return values like 1, and 10 work too, while others hang
up the application. Anyway, this is just complete dumb trial and error, and i
dunno anything about this piece of code. Guess you need to find out why bpp=0.
Maybe someone else could shed a light on this.

I appologize for the delay. I just upgraded my computer to SUSE 10.0 and I was
having trouble with the NVIDIA video drivers. I'm attaching the FULL debug
terminal output.
To get the attached output:
1. set X11 to 8 bpp.
2. used nVidia binary driver w/TNT2 card
(non-binary driver would result in "This program requires 256 colors" error).
3. then run "echo quit | WINEDEBUG=+relay wine math.exe >& fullreport.txt"
4. Ran this both with SUSE 9.2 and 10.0
5. Wine version 0.9.7 from rpm on winehq.org

After docking a component in top of main window (project manager, toolbox, ...),
when you open an form for edit, you can not see whoel form you want to edit.
In correct way, the top left corner of edited form, should be displayed in top
left corner of opened editing window.
When there is something docked in top of MAIN window, top left corner of editing
windows has correct coordinates (with respect of docked tool), but edited
displayed in this window is moved higher, out of editing area. (It has the same
position, as it would have, without anything beeing docked in MAIN window. )
Hope I managed to explain it ...

I have tested with latest wine 9.8. It is still the same behaviour.
I created form with textbox on it. Then I set background color to black.
Normally, when running under Win, cursor placed on such textbox shuld change its
colloer to white.
In wine, it remains black, so it is "invisible" which makes it very difficult to
enter any text.

You should be able to run for example linux-native applications as glxgears.

The trial version of the application can be downloaded here :
http://www.mpegvideowizard.com/download/MVW-DVD-JADYFCLAUJIFVC.exe
First time you run the application, you enter this trail serial number :
"MVW-DVD-JADYFCLAUJIFVC" (expiration date: 2006-03-21)
Afert this, the splash screen appear, and few seconds later, wine quit.
If you try again to run the application, you get a messagebox about the serial
number, press ok, the splash screen appears and it quit.
This can be reproduced.
Do you need any extra log files?
