Summary: Freezes waiting for short sound-samples that don't
happen with sound off.
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.3.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.avernum.com/blades/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jan.wine(a)zerebecki.de
Start the game after installation and click on "Load Saved Party" and after a
short freeze it works like expected. On ms-win this freeze is not there. This
happens on most other sound-ocassions in the game, too. When using alsa instead
of oss the problem gets worse (not the freeze time, but the sound buffer is
repeating, which it isn't with oss). Changing the nice value of the
wine-preloader process doesn't help either.
I observed another bug: Directly at the start of the game, during the company
logo, there is an adible "pip", that does not happen normaly or with oss, but
with alsa.
That game demo is a small (15MiB) download.

It also seems that Wine is not taking into account the DPI when computing the
font to use for System fonts.

Confirming. There is more. Some dialogs' content is scaled and some is not. When
it's scaled it looks like everything inside the window is scaled, but the window
size is too small.

Summary: Wine is not reading the DPI setting from X - and is
defaulting it to a dumb value
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wowbagger(a)sktc.net
It does not seem that the X11 driver is correctly setting the DPI of the display
it is using, and defaults it to 72 DPI. This sucks mightily on my 1600x1200 19"
monitor, as it makes all the scaled fonts too small to read.
If I manually create the HKLM/[System\\CurrentControlSet\\Hardware
Profiles\\Current\\Software\\Fonts\\LoxPixels entry, and set it to 160, then
most of the fonts (all save the menu bar fonts) are scaled a bit more reasonably.

The problem I am having is NOT that the fonts are drawn in italic - but that
they are drawn at an angle other than 0 degrees.
More accurately - it is not that the font elements are rotated, but rather that
it looks like there is reverse stairstep - there is a small negative Y axis
offset from character to character, sort of

Native hal.dll and ntoskrnl.dll will NEVER EVER work on Wine. And I mean it, NEVER.
Why do you need those dlls anyway? In win98 mode? They are winNT+ only.

I still have the problem with wine 0.9.3 (compiled from sources) on an AMD
Sempron with Mandriva 2006.
I've tried on an other pc (AMD Athlon XP / Mandrake 10.0) with the same version
of wine, and NoteWorthy runs ok.
I don't know what is the problem with the first machine : AMD Sempron or
Mandriva 2006 ?

I presume you mean to Wine 9.3? Winehq.org hasn't announced it yet, but I
vaguely remember getting an announcement that it was available. I'll try it
soon and close out the bug if all's well.
(I did try "rm -rf ~/.wine", and tried the Wine-provided msiexec from 9.2, but
no joy.)
Thank you.

Hello all,
I finally got Age of Mythology up and running using wine-0.9.3 owever the
keyboard is not responding to the game/wine. In fact when I press the F10 button
which normally summons the game menu, I get to see the gnome menu inside of the
game.

needs to be kill -9 before CPU usage returns to normal.

Warcraft 3 seldom hangs while playing. The last bit of sound replays over and

The following message is repeated multiple times in the shell:
err:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne underrun on sound buffer 0x7fd836a0

I have no way of reproducing that, besides playing over and over. Sometimes it
happens two or three times in an evening. Sometimes it does not happen at all.
I saw that happen in game. Last time I saw it happen, I was entering a custom
game on bnet.
I play with music disabled, 640x480x32, all detail to the minimum. I use Alsa. I
run FC4 with kernel 2.6.14.2 (built from kernel.org, no patches). I have a

I upgraded to 2.6.14-mm2, and that solved the problem. The game itself is

graphics?), which is really strange, because people have reported that it works

I installed the W95 InstMsiA.jexe from Microsoft (although I later read this may
not be necessary). I added "msi" = "native, builtin" and "msiexec.exe" =
"native, builtin" to ~/wine/config as suggested some shaman on one or another
Voodoo pages. I invoked:
wine msiexec /i python-2.4.2.msi
Wine began spewing its normal "fixme ..." messages, but presented a dialog (with
some missing components). After selecting a radio button and a "Next" button or
two, I was presented with the bad news dialog: "Python 2.4.2 Installer ended
prematurely", etc, etc.

Likely a dup of #3507.
I'm pretty sure that this happens if you have a large number of printers on your
network and use CUPS.
Winspool enumerates all the cups printers at start up and takes in the order of
1 second per printer.
Maybe winspool can do this enumeration asynchronously, or defer it to later?

See Bug 3429 for previous activity.
On a standalone machine, the installer actually begins the installation, the
"InstallShield Wizard" shows a screen with "RiverWare 4.6.5 is configuring your
software installation."
There appears to be some serious looping occuring with repeating ole errors, and
finally the progress bar has a caption of "removing applications". An error box
entitled "feature transfer error" appears, and the error reads:
Error: -1603 fatal error during installation. Consult Windows installer help
(MSI.chm) or MSDN for more information.
Click ok, the install shield shows that an error occured, and the only thing to
do is exit it.
A plain trace, and WINEDEBUG=msi, ole will be attached.

This bug still occurs for me as stated on a machine with NFS mounted (from

+opengl trace #2
Here you go, +opengl trace with your patch applied.
It's strange that DAZ|Studio doesn't work for you. It works for me since the
first beta (of DAZ|Studio) was released, but it needs WINVER set to win98 and a
native usp10.dll. It was even perfectly usable before the WM rewrite broke the
OpenGL viewports... :-(

We seem to have two cases that trigger this sort of behavior;
can you comment on whether you have either one?

Use "WINEDEBUG=+loaddll wine iexplore" to see what dlls are loaded and which are
native and which are builtin.
But be carefull with this as some dlls will not work on wine and you'll have to
edit registry files directly if try to to load such a dll (because you won't be
able to start winecfg).
PS: mlang added to the app db HOW-TO.

Summary: LogPixels registry value is ignored by some fonts
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.3.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jpetso(a)gmx.at
I've got a 1400x1050 screen which displays the standard fonts far too small.
There is the LogPixels registry setting which is supposed to scale the fonts
according to its value. This works fine for some fonts (for example, the
regedit "Edit String/DWORD" dialog, or the font selection dialog) but ignores
other important ones, namely the menu fonts, the message dialog fonts, and the
ones used in the regedit listboxes. (Maybe a few more, can't check with other
programs at the moment.) Those fonts can be replaced by modifying values in
the FontSubstitutes registry key, but the size stays the same anyways.
The menu fonts can be changed by a workaround entry in win.ini, but the other
ones seem fixed. If that font sizes can't be increased, I can't use wine
seriously as a Windows replacement - please do something about it! (It's
essential to migrate my mom ;-)

Thank you for your insight. Setting mlang to ``(native, builtin)'' indeed fixes
the ``settings don't work/home page is reset'' part (this ought to be added to
the HOWTO, IMHO). OTOH, the popups still fail with the same error. Is there an
way to find which DLL is responsible for this, or should I try to override
each and every library present in windows\system32 until it begins working?

| Between 0.9.2 with and without ole98 dlls there is no difference in the output.
I am sure that means you didn't specify DLL overrides via env-variable:
$ WINEDLLOVERRIDES='ole32,oleaut32,rpcrt4=n' wine ...
I'd try this override (assuming DCOM98 is installed) even with the latest
version (0.9.3).
