By the way, googletalk correctly calls IE6 (under wine) when I click on inbox,
etc.
I am also fairly certain that before I had IE6 installed, it called my linux
version of firefox correctly! (I guess wine had it set up properly to do so) but
I can't confirm that right now.

Created an attachment (id=1443)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=1443&action=view)
wine-dbg output showing missing functions
Sure. This is from a clean wine install with ie6 installed using the ies4linux
method (I just modified their script to put it in .wine instead of .ies4linux).
Originally I overrode secur32.dll, schannel.dll, and crypt32.dll because it was
mentioned in Juan Langs page about SSL in wine
(http://wiki.winehq.org/JuanLang). However, it seems like googletalk/wine
doesn't have problems with schannel and crypt32 yet.
The attached debug output shows output with no overrides, output with
secur32.dll overrode, and output with secure32.dll and advapi32.dll overrode.
Summary: googletalk needs AcquireCredentialsHandleW from secure32.dll.
secure32.dll needs SystemFunction035 from advapi32.dll. advapi32.dll causes
googletalk to crash when overrode.
In digging, I found this that explains a little about SystemFunction035:

Hi there,
I don't know who fixed this, but "THANK YOU"! I'm trying out 0.9.2, and drag &
drop behavior within explorer-like menus now work again; selections no longer
"stick" infinitely. For those catching up, check out this bug:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3148
The behavior has slightly changed from before, but things work again, and that's
what matters!
* Previously: shift+select multiple files, release "shift", and then drag files
to desired folder
* Now: shift+select multiple files, drag files to desired folder, release "shift"
Again, to the Secret Bug Fixer: THANK YOU!

D'oh. Now that I played with it for a while, I find that
once you define a site, Dreamweaver hangs on startup
with the splash screen saying "Initializing site..."
Running with WINEDEBUG=+file, I found that the last few lines
of the log were
trace:file:GetFileAttributesW L"z:\\home\\dank\\foo.com\\"
trace:file:RtlDosPathNameToNtPathName_U
(L"z:\\home\\dank\\foo.com\\",0x7b92e8a8,(nil),(nil))
trace:file:RtlGetFullPathName_U (L"z:\\home\\dank\\foo.com\\" 520 0x7b92e674 (nil))
warn:file:wine_nt_to_unix_file_name L"home\\dank\\foo.com\\" not found in
/home/dank/.wine/dosdevices/z:
Reasoning that dreamweaver was hanging because of some internal
problem when it couldn't open the site's directory, I manually
created that directory (and made sure it existed from Wine's point of
view), and that cured the hang.
I then used dreamweaver to create and upload a trivial site.
So there seem to be some situations which cause dreamweaver to hang,
but once you're past those, it seems to basically work.
Time to test it a bit more heavily, I guess.

Peto, if you like approach of using some native (real) DLLs from DCOM95, I'd
recommend you to see what DLLs the process load and then decide what ones you
might be overriden to be loaded as native (real), not as builtin (into Wine). [*]
Of course, it would be interesting to see output of WINEDEBUG=+loaddll wine ...
in the bugreport. (at least for me :-)

No, that text is not present. But snoop did reveal what was going on:
dreamweaver is busily doing a directory search of the entire Linux system
using FindNextFileW!
My home directory happened to contain several very large directories
with kazillions of files (two copies each of the wine, gcc, glibc, etc. source
trees); removing those worked around the problem!
In a way, it's Dreamweaver's fault for trying to do a full
scan of the disk before starting up.
It would be good for FindNextFile to be faster, but that's
probably worth a separate bug report. I'm marking this
one WORKSFORME for now.

The only way to fix it is unistall miranda and install again, but not of much
use since i couldn't connect, it was able only to download the contact list from

I have a couple of Windows apps that use this function that are easy to see it
with: http://www.guiplot.com/ (GUIPlot) and http://www.autoget.com/autoget/
(Autoget). They both use URLDownloadToCacheFileA and crash when it is invoked.
Neither needs .net installed. Autoget runs well in wine until the actual
download is attempted. Makes it easy to test URLDownloadToCacheFileA by
defining a new entry (enter some URL for the source and c:\ for then
destination) and click the "Download Now" button.

The Windows API (EnumWindows/EnumChildWindows/GetWindowText/GetWindowInfo
calls) does indeed help to retrieve labels where they are available (various
Yes/No dialogs, OK dialogs, etc.), which solves the major part of the problem,
thanks.
There are still a couple of exceptions where EnumWindows won't work, such as
the Print dialogs in Word Viewer and Excel Viewer. For those I'll have to
continue relying on tabbing order and/or keyboard shortcuts. Just lets hope
that these won't change too often. Or is there another way to deal with this
particular case, short of hardwiring the coordinates of the buttons of that
box (... which would be just as vulnerable to change, if not more...)

When attempting to install wordviewer 2003, it starts installing the files,
and then suddenly pops up a dialog box "Installation ended prematurely because
of an error". Clicking ok (only choice) on it aborts the install.
When this happens, the following is printed to stderr:

The issue seems to be that the wrdvicon.exe file is missing.

ReportedBy: wine(a)wine.lka.org.lu
Attempting to installing Word 97 viewer fails with the following dialog box:
"This Setup program is not intended to be used with your version of Windows"
This also happens on a fresh wine install.
At http://support.microsoft.com/kb/166343/en-us, Microsoft suggests removing
the line BOOTSTRP= from win.ini's [Compatibility] section.
However, my win.ini (newly created by wine) doesn't have this section or this
line. Even removing win.ini entirely doesn't fix this.

Probably it has been myodbc-2.50.39-win95.zip, I mention it just to be accurate.
I don;t think it does matter however.

I'm sorry, it was not mySQL installer, it was myODBC installer version 2.5 or 3.51

In Window$ no such action is adviced by program, so there's probably some
mishmatch with database under wine.
Log is tailed, I'll keep the full version (2M bz2) on my disk for instance..

I'll post the log too (install, and run1).
Second run is similar. I don't allow database conversion. I select Start from
empty db, then I experience another type of runtime error (screen4). I'm asked
for ambulance type (screen5). I'm asked, whether I wish to start. And there it ends.
Under Windows, the program never detects "different database type", never offer
"upgrade to new version", never get Runtime error.
So I assume, there's something not good with DB engine itself.

Installation seems OK. The problem starts with first run. App complains about
bad database versions (no db is created for the moment, by the way). It offers
migration to new versions. The it offers upgrade of itself to version 4. Then
offers importing db or starting with empty one. I select the second one, and it
crashes with Runtime error.
Everything is snapshooted, I'll post pictures.

WinAmbulancia is medicine software, quite frequent here in Slovakia.
Since now, there has been a DOS version, that we run in DOSEMU@Linux
succesfully, with few glitches.
The vendor generates growing pressure to force us to migrate to Window$ version.
If he succeed, we are forced to buy M$ licences again..
The app is VB based and uses MDB database. Company offers trial version, but
registration is required.

Summary: Dashofer Verlag (@Borland DB) newer versions dosen't run

Dashofer Verlag is international publisher. Produces software of many kinds,
almost targets on reference, law, technical and standardisation. It offers
pre-created documents that are stored in Borland database.
Older versions of the software (year 2003, some 2004) function very well with wine.
Newer versions employ slightly different installer, that differs from older ones
by not allowing to select Typical/Compact/Custom installation type.
I don't know, if the only change in the software is the installer, or there is a
difference in version of runtimes, Borland db itself etc.. I just say, that by
the new installer it can be with great probability said, if it will run or no.
It seems however, that Borland DB is the same, since all files in Program
Files/Common Files/Borland Shared/Bde are from year 2001 or older.
It's pitty, but the software is dependent on actual data, thus the older
(working) versions are not of much help for us.
We are migrating to Linux and could be cool if we could shake this one
dependency on legacy systems.

Had to fix it by using regedit and adding two new entries under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Wine->X11 Driver
ClientSideWithCore = N
ClientSideWithRender = N
The installer program uses the following fonts:
serife.fon
sserife.fon
vgasys.fon
which leads me to believe maybe its not handling thos .fon files right.

Well, Tom, it's not that easy, unfortunately.
Instantclient for Linux is quite useless because, as I said, no ODBC driver is
offered with. One must buy commercial ones, and I can't say if he will be
succesful with them either.
As of Instant Client for Windows, it is also not that clear, because if one
wants to use instantclient, Oracle Network Utilities and Oracle Windows
Interfaces must be installed. I don't know, whether Instantclient assumes some
parts are already available in Window$ (odbc32.dll or whatever). The fact is,
I'm not able to run the client this way (not that I'm some kind of guru).
We did have Oracle8 client for windows functional @wine in the pass, but no one
knows how it was achieved (some mySQL installer has been involved because of
ODBC driver, and the guy who did it even then didn't know how, not to say he
could remember now ;o) and it worked only with 200503 and 200504 versions of
Wine. I can post another issue covering the mySQL installer not working, but I
see more decent way to try to enable the Oracle client installer (in hope it
would be enough).
For now, i'm eperimenting with copying instantclient files and registering them,
but with no success so far.
So, if installer of regular client for Windows worked (version dosen't matter),
there will be one more way to try, more likely to function.
I know there is always much work and only few people available. I just want to
say "thanks" for what have been done, it's impressive, and if in some near
future version either installer worked, it would be woww for us here.

I just updated to 0.9.2, and programs that are ran through Wine no longer are
able to connect to the Internet. I did not have this issue with 0.9.1.
I'm using Mandriva 2006, and I downloaded the Mandrake / Mandriva RPM from the
download page, which is how I got both 0.9.1 and 0.9.2.
First I did an RPM upgrade, but when I saw that there were connection problems,
I uninstalled it and cleaned all of the various bits off my computer, then
reinstalled it clean, and had the same issues. I even uninstalled it, restarted
my computer, then installed it again, and installed it, restarted, then tried it
again, and in every scenario, I have the same results.

Until a few days ago, when trying Freelancer by Digital Anvil/ Microsoft

visible (hardly usable, given that most menu backgrounds are black as well). I
tried it again today, and now the pointer is completely invisible.
Other parts of the interface are invisible as well, the HUD for example, and
parts of the menu (sliders, buttons, some text), or are displayed using wrong
colors (inverted?) - some of the glitches are already visible during the
installation, as Freelancer uses a custom installer. But I don't know if
that's related...

your card only support 24bits Depth buffer (see dp/th)
For you pixel shaders problem, seems strange to me.
Have you actived hw pixel shader support on winecfg ?

just saw addr is declared as void. My C knowledge is limited but is this a
correct piece of code then?

BTW another weird issue is this: i constantly have to run this app with native
msvcrt, otherwise is crashes here with:
0x7f6dc506 cxx_frame_handler+0x34a
[/LFS/winecvs/wine/dlls/msvcrt/cppexcept.c:305] in msvcrt: testb
$0x8,0x82ac(%ebx)
305 TRACE( "done, continuing at %p\n", addr );
When i remove the trace (or comment it) it starts up just fine. This is weird as
i do not run wine with trace log enabled so i thought this line wouldn't be
called at all, yet it crashes right there. Any thoughts?

Ok fine it crash when it try to do GetProcAddress of "_MemSetPatching@4"
on a library who must be on Address 0x7d330001.
But you can see in you library dump (in winedbg) that no library exists here.
LdrGetProcedureAddress Wanted Address of 0x7d330001,"_MemSetPatching@4"
More, Seeing your full log, seems the application is scanning all libraries
searching for many symbols (seems an anti-hack/crack protection)
The problem is that you library have an impair mask (&1):
its the way wine use (using a &1 mask) to know modules mapped as data.
And better LdrGetProcedureAddress don't have the same protection as
RtlImageDirectoryEntryToData (ie remove the &1 mask)
can you test attached patch (i think it should fix your problem)
Regards,
Raphael
PS: MemSetPatching is a symbol exported by SmartHeap (Heap Debugger/Patcher)

post your patch to wine-patches (it's correct, with the 8;) )
but you should modify in the same way IDirectInputDevice2WImpl_QueryInterface
Anyway, what is the stack crash after that ?

Already tried this as well, same funky libc.so.6 crash... :-(
And it also crashes with a native dinput.dll, but in a completely different
fashion - completely DInput-unrelated it seems.

Maybe better this way (both 7's changed to 8's) ;^) (totally untested)
+ if (IsEqualGUID(&IID_IDirectInputDevice8A,riid)) {
+ IDirectInputDevice8_AddRef(iface);
+ *ppobj = This;

To clarify the problem, it only exists using d3d8. Opengl mode it changes the
mouse cursor fine.
