Using Wine from CrossOver 5, Picasa installs and runs well.
I have many images, so it takes it quite a while to scan my hard drive.
During the first scan, I poked around and encountered one
of the crashes (I think I tried ordering prints).
When I restarted Picasa, it went back to scanning, but now
folders from the first scan are duplicated in the left hand
column.

i just checked, and right here the install hangs (after pressing 'no' in mozilla

comes up just fine.

#3: Not for me, with WINE 0.9.1. Trying to run winamp.exe after the install
results in the same dialog box popping up, and a pagefault.
#2: I tried using the native msvcp60.dll, but this didn't change anything. How
do I force WINE to use the native dll?
Is this all because Winamp is trying to access the net, even if you select the
"not connected to the net" option during the install?

> if you want it that way you should file extra bugs for all things that need to

A meta bug wouldn't be very useful in this situation.
>btw.: the user mostly don't know what are the issues why the app fails. So
often you will only have a "generic" bug a la "app xy don't work".
If the reporter can't describe the problem then we developers ask questions of
the user and narrow down the problem.
> Your proposal actually implies that the dev(s) who try to solve the bug have
to open bugs for every issue they encounter.
It's not the responsibility of the developers to split a generic bug report into
individual issues, but some of the time this is what happens.
> I don't think that works.
It's how wine's bugzilla works, and most other bugzillas as well.

Summary: Picasa doesn't autodetect images on the fly

Severity: normal

I'm running version 20050830 installed from the rpm for a Red Hat 9 i686 build.
Autodetecting images doesn't work as smoothly on WINE as it does when run on
Windows.
Here's the version of Picasa I installed:
http://dl.google.com/picasa/picasa2-current.exe
To reproduce:
1. Save an image into the "My Pictures" directory. You can do this any way you
like, although I did so from a web browser by mousing over an image then right
click->Save Image As....
2. Picasa displays no change in the number of pictures it has found. I would
normally expect it to automatically show a new thumbnail of this picture in the
"My Pictures" folder.
Notes:
The picture must be large enough to be shown in Picasa. If your image is small,
you must click View->Small Pictures before Picasa will show it.
If you restart Picasa the image will sometimes be detected automatically.
Otherwise I've found that I have to click Tools->Folder Manager... and hit OK
before the image is detected.

if you want it that way you should file extra bugs for all things that need to
be fixed and let this bug depend on them.If anybody volunteers to do that, fine.
But now we have a bug "Serious Sam First Encounter demo doesn't work" declared
as fixed, so I am supposed to think the application works, although we know it
doesn't. Thats simply misleading.

To reproduce:
1. Select "Import from..." from File menu.
2. Picasa goes to the import screen allowing users to select a device from which
to import.
3. Insert the USB key into a USB port.
4. When you click on the "Select Device” the drop-down menu shows only
"Folder...". I would normally expect to see a "Removable Drive(E:)" option in
the drop-down menu.

You need to file separate bug reports for each issue that keeps you from running
the game out of the box. A generic bug report like "App X doesn't work" isn't
useful to the people trying to fix it. It's easier to keep track of remaining
bugs as well when they're separate.

Just tried to install the game Freelancer by Digital Anvil/ Microsoft Games,
using Wine CVS 20051116. It starts up fine, but the music 'hangs'. It always
loops the first second. Speech and soundeffects work perfectly. This seems to
be related to Wine's MP3 codec, as it outputs "To less out space" to the
console thousands of times, which (the typo helps ;-) ) seems to be a MPEGLIB
error message. AFAIK, Wine's MP3 codec was based on MPEGLIB.

although the demo won't start because of some missing D3D features.
But that probably belongs to a separate bug, assigned to the D3D gurus ;)

Two +win trace outputs
good2 = using user32.dll.so containing the gcc 3.4.3 version of win.o.
bad2 = using user32.dll.so containing the gcc 4.0.1 version of win.o.
I do not see any obvious problems in the bad2 output... just that it stops when
the splash hangs.

Summary: win.c problem with gcc 4.0.1 / Dreamweaver MX 6.1
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-user
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine(a)eternaldusk.com
When the latest CVS (20051116) is compiled with gcc 3.4.3, Dreamweaver works
fine. When WINE is compiled with gcc 4.0.1, Dreamweaver hangs on the splash
screen. The main app window loads in the background, and can be minimized, but
none of the menu options respond.
DLL replacement and linking with mixed version has determined that the offending
object is dlls/user/win.o. The entire project can be compiled with gcc 4.0.1
with the exception of using a gcc 3.4.3 version of win.o, and Dreamweaver works
fine.
Disabling all tuning and optimizations for the entire project has no effect on
the symptoms.
It is unclear to me at this point if this is a gcc 4.0.1 compiler bug, or if
it's generating "more correct" code and has made a logic error with win.c more
evident.
Thanks for your time.

What Application did you use?
Is an Download-URL available?
Which Dialog should be Displayed, when wine crashes?
Is it the same Dialog as in "wine notepad"?
(Print / Printer-Properties / Document-Properties)
Using win.ini is the old 16-Bit way, but we do not have the equivalent
Registry-Entries.
Is there a newer Version of your Application?

if you will look at AJ wiki page [2], you'll notice such items on a todo list:
* Switch windows to managed mode dynamically.
* Fix internal messages for 16-bit apps.
* Remove remaining dll separation hacks in user32.spec.
* Make Clippy work right.
* Support window stations and multiple X11 displays.
* Fix inter-process desktop mode.
* Delay connecting to the X server until needed.
* Multi-monitor support.
* Fix LockWindowUpdate.
* Proper HWND_MESSAGE support.
* Restore journalling hooks functionality.
* Use handles for A/W winprocs instead of thunks.
* Investigate need for DC thread locking.
I am afraid it hasn't been done yet. :-P

| I'm not sure what those drivers do on winNT. If they just enable application

I guess this is exactly the case, as the file calls Ke386SetIoAccessMap() and
Ke386IoSetAccessProcess():

Furthermore, I think this is renamed version of GiveIO.sys driver [3]. Its
source is available too: directio.zip/directio/directio.zip/GIVEIO/GIVEIO.C
Maybe it helps to answer question more reliably.
BTW, Vitaliy, how far is NtOsKrnl.exe from being incorporated in the official

The patch applies, and there are certainly more files
now after running mdac2.7sp1's installer, so it
seems like a significant improvement.
I don't know if the set of files is complete;
it's not the same as the set you get if you
actually unpack all the cabs in RegisteredPackages/*.cab.
I guess somebody's going to have to actually
run an app that requires MDAC to see if the
missing files are important or not.
I don't have time to do that tonight, not sure when I'd be able to.

No, this is won't fix. You can't access I/O ports on anything past win98.
I'm not sure what those drivers do on winNT. If they just enable application raw
access to ports it might work (same way as we do it for win9x mode. But if it
some real driver, I don't think so.

I tried using native dlls from an windows XP installation to implement the
missing SSL stuff. I overrode schannel.dll, secur32.dll, crypt32.dll, and
msasn1.dll. Then it said there were missing functions in advapi32.dll so I
tried the native dll for that too and I got a page fault...
Also, strangely there is a directory in my google-talk directory called
"googletalk-1.0.0.76" and it contains the file "googletalk-setup-upgrade.exe".
I figured, what the heck, and ran it, it works like the regular googletalk.exe
except that my wine actually produces debugging output... I have no idea what is
going on but there you have it. The page fault gives me this:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x7ffe02d0 at address 0x77dd9a57

WineDbg starting on pid 0xa

Well, I can confirm that this _definately_ applies to only Xorg 6.8.2 and
higher, as I went ahead and rolled my X install back to Slack 10.1 releaseŽs
Xorg 6.8.1, and WinRAR starts and runs just fine.. Problem is that, until Xorg
fixes the pre-existing pixmap bug properly, the hacky patch will probably just
stay in there, so to anyone that reads this, I suggest either rolling your X
install back to 6.8.1 or at most, to the 6.8.2 release, pre-pixmap overflow fix.
Hope that helps. If anyone wants to post some of whatŽs being said/done about
this on either the wine-devel or xorg devel lists to this bug, feel free..

This demo works very nice as well with the modifications described in bug 3528.
However , i still have to start the demo with native msvcrt otherwise it
crashes. The second time i start it i don't need to use native msvcrt.

If it is not necessary, then how can I do raw I/O port access as a user?

I'm having similar problem with an ext3 partition mounted with default nls utf8.
Running an installer under wine yields two different problems:
- sometimes the installer says "the folder name cannot include any of the
following characters: /:*?"<>|,", which are not in the name.
If this warning is not displayed (don't know why sometimes it's shown and
sometimes not), it fails with "File access denied".
wine seems to fail accesing the requested directory, or the application fails to
understand utf8 codification.
Is there some solution to this?

That looks like a problem with vertex shaders can you try disabling them in
winecfg

It looks like ValidateVertexShader doesn't take so many parameters, Cedega
have it taking two, but I'll check what's on the stack.

Hi, i once had a similar problem in half life 2 , see
http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=1051&action=view
Somehow it was a mismatch between newer wine and old ~/.wine directory if i
remember correctly. Did you try a completely new install of this game in a fresh
~.wine?

little status update:
msvcrt bug: fixed in CVS.
choose wrong language files: no idea what goes wrong there
workaround: remove 1_00c_Sounds_demo_* and 1_00c_Texts_demo_* files
doesnt find builtin opengl32.dll:
it first tries to find the dll via SearchPath(), before trying to load it.
And SearchPath() didn't report builtin dlls.
workaround: place any file(named opengl32.dll) in your system folder
eg.: "touch ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/opengl32.dll" will do it
proper solution: yet to find, probably a question for wine-devel
claims that there is no hardware acceleration:
SeriousSam fails if PFD_GENERIC_ACCELERATED flag is set for the chosen pixel
format. But wine *always* sets this flag and I'm not sure if we simply can drop
this flag in general.
for now, if somebody wants to test the game, just change the following line in
dlls/x11drv/opengl.c(in X11DRV_DescribePixelFormat):
----
ppfd->dwFlags = PFD_DRAW_TO_WINDOW | PFD_SUPPORT_OPENGL | PFD_GENERIC_ACCELERATED;
----
to:
--
ppfd->dwFlags = PFD_DRAW_TO_WINDOW | PFD_SUPPORT_OPENGL
---
and the game will run just fine ;)

I've have the same problem with origin6.1 and wine 0.9.1. With previous
version of wine (0.9.0) neither 'export' nor 'save' did work. Now I can
export, but not save the project file. I get a message box with "Check to make
shure the disk is not full". Free HD-Space is around 1.5 GB.
I get the following out when trying to save:
